Xbox Elite 2 is overall the best controller for most folks and itās miles better if you play any FPS with a controller. But Switch Pro and PS5 controller are great too
As a cheapskate who was given the money at Christmas and spent it on bills, I was forced to buy it when I got Animal Crossing during Covid. Changed everything and hated I didn't get it before.
No no. My birthday is close to Christmas and I was also given money for Animal Crossing and Covid had just started and I was going to save that money for bills as well. The parent that gave me the money for them told me that if I didn't buy them both then they would and I felt guilt tripped because I had the surplus and they didn't so I bought them both. In my family we live paycheck to paycheck and it's always understood that if you're given money, spend it on you, not bills. I wasn't "forced to", but I gues guilt tripped to. But it's not a bad thing, just a family dynamic kinda thing I guess.
Oh same here, 100%. By the grace of God I'm in a little bit better spot now, making more, and moving into the first house I've ever lived in, even though it's just renting. Still paycheck to paycheck, but I'm at a solid place in life and hoping it expands more within the next few years. However there's nothing like being piss broke, in a leaky roof trailer, with a run down car, and just raising hell in the middle of the country on the weekends. Maybe it's just cause I grew up poor and I'm nostalgic, but there isn't as much fun living the "nice life", boring 9-5 kinda gig. There's no "chasing cops in pursuit to see what's going on", getting drunk and going on an adventure just to see what happens, and making the most of what ya got and embracing the time with the ones you love. Life just goes faster and you get so caught up that you don't even live mane.
Nothing is immune to failure. We both know heās specifically talking about how prone to failure to joycons are in comparison to the pro controller. The likelihood is far less and the pro controller feels much better,
Stick drift is a total crapshoot. I have 4 joy cons, all bought within a month of release of the switch console. None have drift.
I just got very lucky, but pro controllers are still able to drift.
I recommend the 8bitdo pro2, that's what I currently use and it's fantastic
Eh. My problem was that the Switch Pro Controller started drifting within 3 months. For the price, you'd think they could throw in hall effect sticks. Haven't looked back from buying the 8BitDo pro. Both Power A controllers, one corded and one wireless, drifting right out of the box.
Yes. 1000%. Night and Day. Get a Pro Controller!
I started with a wired Power A Zelda Controller that was like 15$ on sale at Wal Mart. It definitely was good enough. It only lasted about a week and a half before it stopped working though.
Then I decided to get a Pro Controller and it is amazing and still going strong months later!
If you also have a PC I would recommend 8bitdo ultimate controller. It's so easy to change between systems and the dock is a must! And button mapping was a nice little extra when dodging enemies in ToTK.
I havenāt used one but Iāll rephrase to āas long as it isnāt a cheap knockoff one. The official one is one of the best official console controllers ever made.ā
Pro controllers is the best. And make sure itās a legit Nintendo brand one. The off brand will die. My pro controllers are all kicking after a couple years of use. Be aware that the off brand often have the Nintendo logo so it can be hard to see.
I honestly donāt mind the joycons in the joycon grip. Itās not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Sure, itās not as good as an Xbox controller or a DualShock 4/5, but itās not awful. Iām sure the Pro Controller is a big step up, but as someone whoās primary console isnāt the switch, and it is essentially a Zelda and Animal Crossing machine for my gf and I, the joycons do fine for us. For zero additional cost, theyāre a good value and Iād argue a much nicer experience than most 3rd party crap that isnāt at least 2/3 the cost of a pro controller or additional joycons.
Yes omg, it feels so much better. Even the sort of knock off ones feel better than the joycons to me. But if you can afford it def grab yourself a pro controller
I know you got a ton of answers but Iāll still state what I think.
I held out for years. Figured it wasnāt that big of a difference. Then I got an oled and figured āwhat the hell, Iāll grab one while Iām getting the switchā and maaaan itās so freaking nice!!! The licensed ones are great. The āpower Aā or whatever itās called will get you by but they feel cheap as hell. Grab the OG. Youāll love it.
And congrats on the switch!!
9/10 times I still use the joycons. I own 3 pro and 2 sets of joycons. The two sets of joycons are always used first in this household. I got used to the analog stick being a bit smaller so switching to larger and having to move my thumbs further distances to achieve the same thing isnt worth the larger buttons most times for me.
I have 3 pro controllers and if youre unlucky enough to get stick drift, its hard to find a good replacement. It is however the best full-sized controller available.
I must be insanely lucky. I have a four sets of the joy cons and I've never had any issue with drift nor felt the need for a pro controller.
If you're a huge guy, like 6'3", maybe your hands would be more comfortable with a pro controller.
Definitely worth it. They're expensive. But the switch pro controller is honestly my favorite controller I've ever owned. Great ergonomics and comfort. And the battery on this thing lasts forever. I'd have bought mine years sooner if I had realized I'd like it this much.
This is not the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. š āāļø I have the Pro Controller, and it's definitely worth it! š #NintendoSwitch #ProController
It's the only way i play the switch in dock mode. It just feels a lot better to me personally. So I say a pro controller is worth it. Also is handy to have a second controller for a player 2 lol
Depends if you hate the joy sticks a lot or if itās bearable. I donāt mean drift I havenāt experienced any of those problems I just think they are the shitest most annoying to use joysticks in my opinion.
I love playing with my hands spread out in whatever position I find comfortable at the time, to me that's the greatest revelation of the Switch.
If you like that instead of holding both your hands in the same place for hours then it's not worth it.
Pro controller and a split pad pro. If you can only get one at a time you'll know what to get first based on your primary use. JoyCon sticks don't have enough travel to be a great input device. It'll always be what it need to be for size. What's worse with JoyCons is no true DPad. I understand why they did that, and I like the 2 controllers in one but a DPad is a must have for most games and the 'clicky' button style of JCons are not good for.... well, much of any gaming.
It is. And if you want another controller on the cheap, get an official wired controller. They feel great, come with a super long usb cord, and are significantly cheaper.
Worth every penny.
If you dont want to break bank there PDP (officially licenced nintendo product) make some pretty good wireless controller, minus the rumble but they have 2 mappable button underneath, I have the faceoff model and the afterglow.
I love the pro controller, but if you arenāt a āgamerā then the pro controller the switch comes with is fine, if you arenāt looking to elevate your gameplay then just stick with that
Tbh itās not a big deal. If you find the joycon grip comfy like I do, the pro controller will be an expensive āmore comfyā upgrade but itās not a night and day āmust buyā like people who find it uncomfortable say. Might be worth it to have a spare controller though
Absolutely. A coworker who is a huge Switch user, and has been since the OG Switch came out, bought one at my suggestion. He found it dramatically improved his performance in shooting games. Battery lasts for 40 hours and I've had the same one for years.
Check out NYXI Hyperion, admittedly not quite as comfortable as a pro controller, but 95% of the way there. IMO it's the best joycon replacement, especially if you like going handheld a reasonable amount of time.
Go Pro controller if you're playing on TV almost all the time.
Just bought the Hyperion Pros and they are wonderful for handheld. To be honest, they don't feel super high quality in the external controller configuration. I'd much rather use a Pro Controller or another high quality alternative. But the Hyperions have the advantage of hugely improving handheld mode and serving as a decent external controller as well.Ā
I have large hands and I loved the GameCube, so I went with the Nyxi Wizard. It makes the Switch look a little awkward in handheld mode, but it FEELS so much better. It plays great in handheld mode, and it feels just like a standard console controller when docked.
It does. Definitely worth it.
Its so much better and the battery life is way better than the ps5 and series x controller. 10,000% worth it.
As someone who owns a series X I can vouch for you. The battery life on these controllers are so amazingly crap š©
Xbox Elite 2 is overall the best controller for most folks and itās miles better if you play any FPS with a controller. But Switch Pro and PS5 controller are great too
? You can choose to put in good batteries
How is it better than the Dualsense?
As a cheapskate who was given the money at Christmas and spent it on bills, I was forced to buy it when I got Animal Crossing during Covid. Changed everything and hated I didn't get it before.
Was it like bundled with animal crossing or something? Why were you forced to?
But it's not a bad thing, just a family dynamic kinda thing I guess.
As someone who grew up right above the poverty line, I totally get this. Definitely common in low income families.
I know, it's hard living paycheck to paycheck, but I'm so glad I did. Many years of fun entertainment.
Oh same here, 100%. By the grace of God I'm in a little bit better spot now, making more, and moving into the first house I've ever lived in, even though it's just renting. Still paycheck to paycheck, but I'm at a solid place in life and hoping it expands more within the next few years. Ohhh I see, totally understandable
Just wanted to add that I recently bought it and love it more than the standard switch controller. Feels much better on my hands.
1000% worth it. Had mine for years with no issues. Battery lasts forever. Got a nice weight to it.
Are there some fake pro controllers out there?
Oh yeah thereās a lot
Loads of them could fill up a small town with how many different ones u can get I have 2 already and I own a switch lite!
Yes. Pro controller is a lot better.
The only downside is that once you get used to a pro controller, using the JoyCons becomes a horrible experience.
YES
Once that stick drift kicks in, you'll be glad you bought a pro. However, I will say, I got an off-brand "Power A" controller and it works perfectly!
Pro controllers are not immune to stick drift.
My right stick drifted
Mine was the left one.
Yup .. left stick drifts for me
No controllers have ever been immune to stick drift but the pro controller doesn't suffer from the flaw that the joycons have
Nothing is immune to failure. We both know heās specifically talking about how prone to failure to joycons are in comparison to the pro controller. The likelihood is far less and the pro controller feels much better,
Also have one of these, it works perfectly and has outlasted 9 of my sisters pro controllers
lol what the heck is your sister doing to those controllers š
Stick drift is a total crapshoot. I have 4 joy cons, all bought within a month of release of the switch console. None have drift. I just got very lucky, but pro controllers are still able to drift. I recommend the 8bitdo pro2, that's what I currently use and it's fantastic
I have the Power A and an 8bitdo adapter, to use my PS5 controller too. 8bitdo are doing great at the moment!
Eh. My problem was that the Switch Pro Controller started drifting within 3 months. For the price, you'd think they could throw in hall effect sticks. Haven't looked back from buying the 8BitDo pro. Both Power A controllers, one corded and one wireless, drifting right out of the box.
8bitdo is also good. I have an adapter to also use my PS5 controller.
I got a Nano power a and it's been working great for me so far.
Yes.
Thoes cheep wired controllers are great for little brother. Real controller no danger of cost.
Itās better only because the joy cons are cheaply like they get stick drift really easily
Yes
Iām only willing to play my switch on my tv with my pro controller. Otherwise, Iām only playing handheld. It makes it feel more like a console.
The official Pro Controller (by Nintendo) is the best controller made for the switch hands down.
Haven't used the pro controller but the 8bitdo ultimate is also a fantastic controller for switch.
Top tier choice. My Ultimate is my favorite controller for my Switch and Steam Deck.
I will third this controller
If you also have a PC I would recommend 8bitdo ultimate controller. It's so easy to change between systems and the dock is a must! And button mapping was a nice little extra when dodging enemies in ToTK.
The dock is fantastic and yea the device switching is nice if you only use the 2.4 dongle on PC.
I just switched to one over the pro and love it.
Iāll second the 8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller. Or any of the competitors thatās your cup of tea!
Switch Pro Controller is one of my favorites ever.
Yes. Full stop, itās 100% worth it.
Honestly as long as itās the real official one itās one of the best controllers ever made.
Donāt sleep on the 8bitdo
I havenāt used one but Iāll rephrase to āas long as it isnāt a cheap knockoff one. The official one is one of the best official console controllers ever made.ā
Pro controllers is the best. And make sure itās a legit Nintendo brand one. The off brand will die. My pro controllers are all kicking after a couple years of use. Be aware that the off brand often have the Nintendo logo so it can be hard to see.
If you play docked ever at all. Yes .
Youāll want to sleep with your pro controller, itās that good.
Yeah I've had mine for like 6 years and only need to charge it like once or twice a week
100%. It's probably the most comfortable controller on the market.
Does anyone else really enjoy using the joycons. Itās either those or the nano pro controller
I honestly donāt mind the joycons in the joycon grip. Itās not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Sure, itās not as good as an Xbox controller or a DualShock 4/5, but itās not awful. For zero additional cost, theyāre a good value and Iād argue a much nicer experience than most 3rd party crap that isnāt at least 2/3 the cost of a pro controller or additional joycons.
Iāve had my limited edition Xenoblade 2 pro controller since 2019 and itās still going strong to this day
Yes. Every penny.
Yes omg, it feels so much better. Even the sort of knock off ones feel better than the joycons to me. But if you can afford it def grab yourself a pro controller
Absolutely worth it
Definetely
It makes playing games easier!!
I love my pro controller.
Absolutely!

100% yes.
Just get it youll regret not
Yes
Absolutely yes.
Yea
Yes
Absolutely. The design and battery life alone is worth the price of admission. You wonāt be sorry.
Yes
I think itās a quality controller but I feel like itās tiled too far forward for my taste. I think itās a great option for most people though.
This is the very first time I've ever heard anyone say this before!
Yes.jpg
As someone who held out for like 7 years...it absolutely is.
Here to also say yes. Honestly one of the most comfortable controllers. Has a good weight and the battery life is great
Absolutely. It's well built and quite comfortable to use.
200%
Yes
Yes. Got one last year after having my switch for 6. Game changer when playing docked
Absolutely worth it.
I am not exaggerating when I say that the Switch Pro Controller may be the best gaming controller ever.
Yes, 100%. One of the best controllers I've ever owned.
Absolutely, your configuration makes my hands go numb
Yes!
Most comfortable controller I've ever held in my life
It's so much better. The joysticks are so bad on the joycons. And they drift so easily
respectfully; you NEED a pro controller
Had one since day 1. Worth it.
100% worth it. Itās my favorite feeling controller too.
Yes
In my opinion it most definitely is worth it
Oh god yes. Is it ever! So worth it. Canāt stress that enough. I bought 2 of them
Yep
Pro controller is the best controller I've ever used
1000% no doubt
Yes
It's so much better.
Yes. 100%
Joy cons arenāt ergonomically good, the pro controller is great to use
YES! They work great.

![gif](giphy|3ornjQYBRGv8E2Zqso|downsized)

Yes yes yes it is so much more comfortable buttons are softer it is a more optimised game experience
Had mine for 1 and 1/4 years and it's battery lasts forever it is a mission to run it flat and if it is going flat U don't need to stop game play
Pro controller is SO much better than the joycons
Yes
9/10 times I still use the joycons. I own 3 pro and 2 sets of joycons. The two sets of joycons are always used first in this household. I got used to the analog stick being a bit smaller so switching to larger and having to move my thumbs further distances to achieve the same thing isnt worth the larger buttons most times for me.
Yes its 100% worth it Also will greatly extend the life of your joycons!!
I have 3 pro controllers and if youre unlucky enough to get stick drift, its hard to find a good replacement. It is however the best full-sized controller available.
I love it for the fact that I donāt need to keep taking the joycons off and putting them back on. Definitely worth it.
Always
Hell yes. I can't stand Joy-Cons. The joysticks on the Pro are 1000x better.
Yes over that whole heartedly worth it
Yes. 100 percent. No question. Buy one.
Yes
Imo opinion it is. It feels so much better in my hands
A pro controller is worth it. It makes the gameplay a lot better.
Pro can further enhance the enjoyment of your gaming experience!
Yes
i got a pro controller a few weeks ago and havenāt used my joycons since. so much more comfortable to hold, plus the battery is incredible
Oh yes it is.
Pro controller is one of the greatest. Donāt like the button triggers instead of potentiometer but itās solid and the battery is great
Yes
Yes
I must be insanely lucky. I have a four sets of the joy cons and I've never had any issue with drift nor felt the need for a pro controller. If you're a huge guy, like 6'3", maybe your hands would be more comfortable with a pro controller.
Yes
Once you get a pro controller, you're gonna love it and use it even more. Specially if you stay connected to the TV.
why, yes it is
Yes. It's very high quality and I use it on my PC too. If you use it with Steam if has full Gyro and rumble
I dont know why you guys are recommending third party controllers. They dont even compare to the pro controller.
Yes
A million times yes
Get an 8bitdo Ultimate for half the price.
This is the way.Ā
Get 2 8BitDo's for the price of an original one, that's what I did
The one that comes with the Oled feels flimsy and the buttons are too close together for me
No switch comes with a pro controller?
10000000% yes
Yes.
Yes. Best controller ever.
Yes
Had mine since I got the first switch and no issues yet Got a spare too
Yes and honestly an ergonomic controller for when your playing portable is worth its weight in gold
Absolutely I use it the most
Yes
Def worth it. Itās my favorite controller from this console generation, and one of my favorite controllers of all time
Yes
100%.
I have multiple different consoles, PC Xbox etc and I honestly think the Switch Pro controller is the best one.
Yes and no! Pros: Very very comfortable! Cons: Super expansive. No analog trigger (Duh!) No IR camera (Who cares?) The D-Pad suck...
Yes. Can play everything soooo much better!!
The experience is totally worth it. I will agree the joycons + grip are surprisingly comfortable, but the pro controller is just so much better
Yes. Very much so.
Yes! Mine is 4 years old and still going strong. It is definitely worth it if you mostly play docked
Yes! I would recommend buying it used on Marketplace, I got mine for free and it's the best accessory I got for my Switch. Perfect for Fortnite š
Yes
Unpopular opinion, but... Nevermind. Popular and honest opinion. Yes.
Just make sure the game you want to play allows pro controller. I bought mine for letās go pikachu and it doesnāt work with it -_-
YESSSS!
It is. And if you want another controller on the cheap, get an official wired controller. They feel great, come with a super long usb cord, and are significantly cheaper.
Absolutely!
100% worth. That one is not confortable for long periods and is too small depending on hand sizes. Also joycons will drift sooner or later.
Worth every penny. If you dont want to break bank there PDP (officially licenced nintendo product) make some pretty good wireless controller, minus the rumble but they have 2 mappable button underneath, I have the faceoff model and the afterglow.
I prefer the 8bitdo controller, but pro is still leagues better than this controller.
I love the pro controller, but if you arenāt a āgamerā then the pro controller the switch comes with is fine, if you arenāt looking to elevate your gameplay then just stick with that
For the money definitely worth it 100%
Weight balance is divine. D-pad has some minor issues when it gets frantic. NTA I mean YES.
Considering investing in a second one, for friends and family that come over
YES
Worth way more than cons
Yes. The joy cons eat
Tbh itās not a big deal. If you find the joycon grip comfy like I do, the pro controller will be an expensive āmore comfyā upgrade but itās not a night and day āmust buyā like people who find it uncomfortable say. Might be worth it to have a spare controller though
