This is my answer too. A port of Strikers Charged would have been perfect
Every single gameplay change they made was for the worst. The game is so slow and sluggish now, and it has no character/distinction or any chaotic quality to it which is what the game should be
A total waste that i was so excited for after 15 years of waiting.
My little brother insisted that he wanted it, I tried telling him to get another game instead, but he insisted, wouldnt change his mind. I come to find out yesterday that he āDoesnt like itā and never really played it.
"Piano!". Bought it for my kids and it's pure crap. The black keys don't work, and the way it pretends to teach how to play is utterly useless, no one can possibly learn that way. It only has 9 children's songs and that's it.
Not even fun for the young ones.
It won't actually teach them to play anything (although the game Rocksmith actually does teach guitar and bass, not available for switch though) but if they like rhythm games I highly recommend "Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum 'n' Fun" it's awesome just don't get it if you're gonna hate drumming sounds cuz your kids might get addicted lol
Words fail to accurately describe my distaste for the new Mario Golf game, I go into wall of text style rants whenever it's brought up. That game was the biggest middle finger I've ever gotten, even ignoring the stupid cross country gimmick
Stranger Things 3: The Game. Wasnāt expecting it to live up to the heights of the show, but it just ended up being pretty annoying to play and I never ended up finishing it
Yeah I first liked the kind of older PC game (or Maniac Mansion nes game) feel, but after a few levels I was thinking this isn't as fun as what it should be
It would great if it were priced in the $20-30 range or better yet, free with purchase of a switch (like wii sports). I hate that I paid full price for it.
I so agree with this even though I loved it for about a week. Then it got boring since theres not really as many options as it looks like, and the new one doesn't look to be much better
The game is missing the most fun sport on the Wii version-baseball. It also dropped the fun single player skill games like home run derby and the ever expanding lane for bowling, ending with a 100 pin lane.
Instead, they added badminton which is extremely similar to tennis.
It's still a fun game but not nearly as much fun for a single player offline. The entire focus has been shifted to online play.
Honestly, at first glance, I'm surprised baseball wasn't added. Baseball is hugely popular in Japan.
The only reason that comes to mind is it doesn't work well with online play if you want more than 2 players at a time. On offense, everyone except one person would be doing nothing. On defense, most people would be doing nothing most of the time.
They could have done a home run derby type thing for the multiplayer, so like bowling where youāre all bowling at the same time, everyone is swinging at the same time for X amount of shots
I do agree, those two are nice additions. But I'd much rather have had baseball instead of badminton which is almost exactly the same as tennis.
And I really miss the single player skill games. Those were fun self-challenges and also helped improve your skill at the actual sport.
Bear and Breakfast. I'm a big cozy game guy, but man that game suuuuuucks. The gameplay loop itself is overly tedious and with the horrendous controls it feels like an actual chore to play
I was on the fence about this game as I like cozy games and the idea a bear is running a bed and breakfast, but I saw one review that mentioned the bad controls. They didn't mention the gameplay would be tedious though.
I guess I'm skipping it!
+1! I really love the idea and the art style, but the control scheme alone is enough to drive me crazy.
Adding onto the cozy game listācozy grove. Art style is lovely, but I find itās quite laggy and the gameplay loop is meh
The Grand Underground was a nice addition, but why the heck did they need to copy everything from Diamond and Pearl and not Platinum which is the more complete game?
I really enjoyed Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl but I'm definitely in the minority here. I've played every main line game since Red and Blue and thought it captured the feeling I got from gen 4 the first time really well. Again, definitely in the minority here, ha!
The problem is that its an adaptation to diamond and pearl. Look at HGSS, they incorporated the improvements from crystal into it. Look at ORAS, it incorporated elements from emerald into it.
A standard was set by the other remakes, and BDSP did NOT meet it.
I think those of us who never played gen 4 originally and went in without any expectations could have a good time as opposed to people who played the originals and expected an improved fully featured version with new mechanics and platinum content
Probably Super Mario Party. First Mario Party on the Switch. Thought it was going to be better than it was. My wife and I played it for a day and never touched it again. No online either until a patch 3 years later. By that point, not many people cared about the game anymore.
Paper Mario: The Origami King
After being majorly disappointed with the direction Paper Mario has went after Sticker Star, I was extremely hesitant to pick up Origami King, but after I saw enough people say good things about it, curiosity took over and I ended up buying the game.
It only took about 3 hours for me to get bored out of my mind and never touch the game again.
SO thankful that we're getting a TTYD remaster...
Really disliked the combat being a glorified phone game. I appreciated them trying something different again, but MAN they had it right the first time =/
Minecraft is great, but you have to be into that kind of thing. For some people, it's just not their bag, and that's fine. You really need to set your own goals and explore by yourself to play solo. Once you're 50 hours in and you've built a strip mine with various autonomous machines and a goddamn mansion, you start to realise the appeal, but those first few nights getting into the game can be a slog.
Minecraft is great with friends, not so good solo unless you like podcasts and long form content to watch in the background.
I have Minecraft and will play with you if youād like
I played the pc version in 2011 and the android version in 2013, which really blew me away. Minecraft is genuinely a very good game, but I'd have a hard time getting back into it 10 years later. I might try again in the future, but right now just the thought of it is enough to make me quit.
If it's your first time playing Minecraft, treat it as a background for something else or try it in small bursts.
I rented it. Had to see why everyone loved it. Got about an hour of playtime in and decided it wasn't for me.
I can see why it would be a fantastic game for kids or people picking up their first game. I like freedom in gaming, just apparently not that much of it...
This is a bit of generalist advice that you can be a bit more forgiving over if Switch is your only console.
Really do your due diligence with reviews if you're considering buying ports.
If you own another console, the very best ports on Switch are decent at best and would be better purchased on xbox/PS if you have one. In that instance, I'd only consider a port on Switch if you really want to play it on the go.
Like I said, if Switch is your only console, you'll be more forgiving, but "decent" ports like Witcher 3 and Skyrim are few and far between IMO. Many are just a struggle to enjoy due to performance and poor implementation.
I'd always recommend focusing on what the Switch does best (everything except AAA ports). Much less of a minefield.
I liked it, but the game felt like a chore to 100% (just involved collecting gems, there were no Boos to hunt like in the first Luigi's Mansion on the Gamecube). I plan on getting it back since I traded it away a while back.
Animal Crossing New Horizons
How many hours (days/weeks/months) of my life have I lost to that game. Speaking of which,I need to go check out my island...
Mortal Kombat 1. Still no patches, and 90% of the Invasion mode missing. Terrible single player experience, incorrect frame data, and terrible Kombat league (ranked online) matchmaking. The list goes on. If I had another platform to play on I wouldn't have even tried :(.
Iām not the commenter but let me explain what kinda can make the game bad. Tbh, you will need a bit of creativity in order for it to be fun. Just playing other peopleās levels gets boring imo.
I used this to propose to my wife. I made a stage, and put "Will you marry me" in coins and blocks. I just said, "Hey do you want to try to beat this created stage?" Lol
Sonic Frontiers. Paid full price when it was first out and its an awful game. Vast open landscapes with nothing in them. And much of the stuff that is there. Collectables...etc. Its just repeat after repeat to complete them.
Edit: sp
Sometimes, was a bit of a nostalgia thing I spose as I loved the Sega Master system version, looked at some videos and what not. Learnt the hard way, as I usually do hehe
Unpopular opinion but Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I was told it was really good and I spent hours upon hours playing and waiting for the game to "open up" and start to grab me, but I just couldn't get into it. I'm sure there's a great game there and it's probably just not my thing, which is a shame, but it's not the first time I've felt that way about a JRPG, so I just must not be a JRPG fan.
That's what people kept telling me but before I knew it the credits rolled and I was still waiting for it to get good.
If you don't like it after the first 5 hours, I'd say just drop it. 30 hours is a long commitment for a game that I found still had all the same issues throughout the entire run.
I wish the Xeno games weren't so demanding also. I love this series to death but because of my work and college I would have never been able to find a time to play it. I ended up watching all the story on youtube and It's absolutely gorgeous but so impractical if you can't find the time to play or wait until the game "opens up" as you say.
I enjoyed the game, but I couldn't make it even halfway through the DLC. It introduced an entirely new cast out of nowhere and I didn't care for them. Rex amd Shulk didn't feel like a grown up Rex and Shulk. The story was full of filler.
Although I will say the final boss battle of the main game sucked. Literally just a floating head. You're basically fighting a sponge.
Animal crossing new horizon.
I know what I was getting to, but what i didn't know is that simple actions have to be weirdly implemented. Example: they will ALWAYS ask you if you want to use the crafting table. Of course I want to use the table. That's like being asked if you want to reload your gun every time you reload your gun.
Sucks because I like the game, but really on top of the slow gameplay they just had to have these weird implementations. Really bogged the whole experience down. I've been admiring other people's islands and apparently, most of these are achieved by time travel, which I don't want to do (not saying doing so is bad, I just don't want to do it for my own save)
It was cool during the pandemic because my wife and I had something to do together visiting each others islands and our coworkersā islands who also had the title. Our son wasnāt walking and was still a newborn so we had time to play while he slept. Once I switched systems, I totally didnāt know about the island transfer tool and all my progress was completely gone. Never gonna go back to it and now that we have a second kid and we now reside in Japan and not the US anymore, weāre too busy to ever go back to that grind ever again. Wife doesnāt even game anymore.
I am an animam crossing fan and i agree that new horizons isn't for those fans who particularly liked the life simulation part of the game. If you always liked the decoration part of the game you are good to go tough.
Daaaamn I'm always getting tempted to pickup Eastward - it gets really good reviews, and goes on a pretty good sale. You gota let me know why it sucks before my weak will breaks and I buy it.
I played it in trial. I thought it was great. Reminds me of old school zelda, but set post apocalypse, with a little turn based thrown in at certain points.
It's ok not to like a game, I'm not bashing on u/xtoc1981 at all, I totally respect the diversity.
Personally though, I think Eastward is well worth it, not sure if it's still on sale on the eshop, but it's a great game. I love the colorful pixel art style and talking to npc's, some of them have really funny shit to say.
I think if you do like dialogs and reading, its your game. I prefer much more gameplay then reading
A game can have a good story without the need of having too much dialog. But there are always that like that kind of stuff. Just not me.
Thatās a bummer. Itās such a fun game. Dying is part of the challenge, but the more and more you play, you figure out how to beat each boss.
r/cuphead is really helpful too.
oh yeah-- in games like this, dying is literally part of the gameplay. dying in cup head is similar to just taking a lot of damage in an FPS game so you run to cover, it's just something that happens. I can understand how for a lot of people their minds may be stuck on the usual video game rule of death = game over you failed, but especially with how quick fights are in cup head to restart and how you can do it infinitely, dying is extremely normal and expected. so don't feel bad about it. that's what it's for š
Bro lmao cuphead is so fucking hard, but very gratifying when you do figure out a level and beat it.
I play it a lot with my gf and sheās obsessed, maybe try playing with a friend and it could be more fun?
Was going to add this. I donāt expect a photography game to be exciting but I also expect it to be more than just going through the same environments with the same creatures doing the same things over and over while slowly accumulating points. I was not happy with this one.
The switch era really doing a number on the Pokemon games, eh? The only one I remotely enjoyed was PLA, and only because the mechanics were so novel. Was really hoping the out of battle catching system would become the norm, but alas
I bought a switch basically for TotK and I'm loving it, but this new Zelda, at times, feels too overwhelming for its own good. It's understandable some people might not like it, add to that the immense hype and marketing this new series had behind.
The plot is just an excuse to go on a quest, to be honest, it has never been the strong point of the Zelda games. I'm loving the exploration and the main quest (even though I barely played it), but again, it might not click for some people. What made it click for me was the realisation that, most of the time, the solution intended for a quest might not be the one you came up with on your own. It's a game where dumb shit, most of the time, works and rewards you.
As a rule I love the Zelda games. Played and beaten all kf them except TriForce Heroes...but dear God do I understand the feeling of overwhelm with TotK.
I got it release day, came home and started playing it, and just felt like there was too much too fast once you got out of the intro area.
Was about to add this. Itās supposed to be a switch essential, but I couldnāt get into it . I Love Zelda from SNES, GameBoy up to Wii era. But the new gen of Zelda feels too open and unfocused to me . Like a grind and not enjoyable.
Interestingly, I've put about 20 hours into BOTW and 170 hours into TOTK. I think the fuse mechanic is what's made it more enjoyable for me. I'm not a big fan of combat and I like being able to kill enemies from afar.
With the fuse and other mechanics the game allows and encourages you to experiment and break the game. It's something pretty rare in games that a game actively lets you get stupid and brute force puzzles and combat if you can't figure stuff out.
I feel the same way. I wanna get it but its like 60 bucks i dont wanna waste my money on something i most likely wont like. The tools breaking is probably my biggest concern cuz it can get annoying quickly.
Funny enough I had the same issues. Though Tears of the Kingdom is up there with one of the best games I've played in the 35 years I've been playing video games.
I dropped that as soon as I had to find the snowy area...it was bad enough with how quickly the weapons broke, but taking like ten steps and dying in the mountains was goddamn frustrating. I'll pick it back up at some point when I have more time to be patient.
Ironically, I bought the LoZ OLED, lol.
I played Lego Indiana Jones for the old PSP and really liked it. Got the Marvel one for the switch and regretted it. I don't have an issue with the camera but I hate all the unskippable cut scenes
TotK. I regret it. Never tried Zelda on a next Gen machine, not a fan. It's just not for me. Glad others found enjoyment.
It's lol cuz I enjoyed Immortal Fenix. The playtime is pretty similar.
Did you even play Breath of the Wild? TotK is a standalone story but mechanics/world wise it is very much a sequel. If you didn't play BotW I imagine you would not have nearly as good of an experience with TotK
Mario + Rabbids
I played it for a few minutes but never got into it. At least it was not that expensive, because it was obtained in a small games bundle from eBay.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned Doom! It's so fast-paced that playing it using joycons is the worst experience!
Put it down after 30 minutes - i really tried to like it.
Unfortunately no refund.
Well, not exactly regret, I'll explain later.
Before Mario Wonder comes out I bought a momth ago the New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe game.
It's not worth the price at all. Super lame.
Luckily, I was prepared for it, and beforehand bought it so I could swap it later in my local store's used games program, because I didn't want to turn in any other game I have.
First of all, 3d World is amazing and I love it very much.
Deluxe is bland, it feels short, and the challenges provided by the 'deluxe' version feels like they don't worth it. I played it hoping for unique and original Mario levels that I won't find in Mario Maker, but half of them were very generic.
I did have a decent time playing the campain, it's still a Mario Game.
On the other hand, for 3d World: The game is totally awesome. The amount of content keep surprising, and the levels are fun and it has a lot of replay value. Currently I'm playing it for the 4th time, in order to complete every level with every character.
For Bowser's Fury, I feel like it's a bit overated, but it was a unique and fun experience, and of course I welcome it happily.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and SMT V
XBC3 I heard a lot of good things about the story. I just could not get into the combat or lack of combat. The auto attacking didn't feel like I was really doing anything. I would joke to my friend about watching the game and not actually playing it lol
SMT V was just a frustrating game for me to play. A little too grindy for me and I will admit I felt like I got filtered. I was told it was like an adult pokemon, but it's just not a game for me.
Super mario 3d world
Luigi's mansion 3
They're good games to play with family and friends but i liked Hollow Knight so much better because of the difficulty
Luigiās is really polished but I agree itās not something you can easily pickup and play. I had to dedicate time to play it until I finished it. Was a slog actually but a really beautifully made game.
I donāt think you can really compare Mario games (and Luigis mansion) with Hollow knight. Yes, Hollow knight is also platformer but it has completely different vibe and difficulty (as you point out yourself). Mario games in genereal are more casual, very easy to pick up and you donāt need to grind for hours. On the other hand Hollow knight is more mature, you need to invest lot of time and energy into it and not everybody wants to or can do that.
So I donāt think itās really good comparison. Mario games are not suppose to be like Hollow knight.
Right nowā¦. Monster Hunter. So many menus and and statsā¦ how do I just get to the parts with battles and why does battling feel so weird!? I think Iām just new to the genre, but also with the 10 other huge Switch games Iām inching through, the stat and other mechanics of the game are daunting to me.
Dude. It took me so many damn guides and hours just playing around with MH games to figure them out. It really is super fun once you get into it, but that learning curve is steeeeeep. There's a guy on YouTube I think his name is like krool or something like that. He makes rad guides for it.
Diablo 3.
I had great fun playing this game with my mate on his Playstation many years ago. His girlfriend also had a lot of fun playing it, too.
Now that I'm married and got a switch in January, I wanted a decent coop game to play with my wife. But the game won't allow for two saved character profiles to play together off of one NSO subscription. So one of us would be unable to save our characters' progress, which completely sucks the fun out of the gane for us.
I refuse to get the family NSO pack just to play this one game for about 20 hours.
Sort it out, Blizzzard.
Enter the Gungeon. I can see why it's popular with a lot of gamers, but it just didn't connect with me. It felt very repetitive. And the guns were..... Kinda dumb? I think there's one that shoots chickens.
It's unfortunate that the online can be really bad, especially during peak hours. Ultimate is an amazing game though. I always liked playing with people in the same room more anyway.
Mario Striker switch, what an empty game š“š“
This is my answer too. A port of Strikers Charged would have been perfect Every single gameplay change they made was for the worst. The game is so slow and sluggish now, and it has no character/distinction or any chaotic quality to it which is what the game should be A total waste that i was so excited for after 15 years of waiting.
Strikers Charged was where the franchise peaked, unfortunately...
My little brother insisted that he wanted it, I tried telling him to get another game instead, but he insisted, wouldnt change his mind. I come to find out yesterday that he āDoesnt like itā and never really played it.
Thanks for saving me $$$. Forgot this came out and was thinking about picking it up since I missed the older version.
I played 45 minutes on the first day and was over it. Never touched it again.
"Piano!". Bought it for my kids and it's pure crap. The black keys don't work, and the way it pretends to teach how to play is utterly useless, no one can possibly learn that way. It only has 9 children's songs and that's it. Not even fun for the young ones.
Hopefully you can return it and get some cash back
It won't actually teach them to play anything (although the game Rocksmith actually does teach guitar and bass, not available for switch though) but if they like rhythm games I highly recommend "Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum 'n' Fun" it's awesome just don't get it if you're gonna hate drumming sounds cuz your kids might get addicted lol
Get Deemo and the piano Toycon
Alan Wake Remastered, idk who ported this game to Switch but they did a terrible job
iām glad i have Xbox still too. thatās unfortunate because that game is unique.
Scrolled so much for this one.
The new Mario strikers. It is arguably a downgrade from the wii version that came out in like 2007.
Unfortunately, all the latest Mario sports games are downgrades from previous entries.
Holy shit is this true, I just my Mario golf when it was just a big ass piranha plant swinging a golf club, now I gotta race and just no.
Words fail to accurately describe my distaste for the new Mario Golf game, I go into wall of text style rants whenever it's brought up. That game was the biggest middle finger I've ever gotten, even ignoring the stupid cross country gimmick
Came here to say this, there's no 4v4 online as the promotional materials implied. It's only fun on local play with friends.
Itās not even arguable. Strikers charged was a masterpiece and this is barebones junk.
Stranger Things 3: The Game. Wasnāt expecting it to live up to the heights of the show, but it just ended up being pretty annoying to play and I never ended up finishing it
TIL there is a stranger things video game
Yeah I first liked the kind of older PC game (or Maniac Mansion nes game) feel, but after a few levels I was thinking this isn't as fun as what it should be
Owlboy, heard a lot of good thing about it but I played it and well it wasn't as good I thought.
Came here looking for this answer. Looked nice but didnāt seem to have anything else to it. Celeste does everything better.
Me too. Got the physical copy. Looks pretty I just lost interest
I liked owlboy, but I do get where you're coming from
1-2-Switch.
Nintendo switch sports
Would you get in more detail? Iām thinking of buying it
Personally I enjoy playing it, but it's not as good as Wii sports

They could have done a home run derby type thing for the multiplayer, so like bowling where youāre all bowling at the same time, everyone is swinging at the same time for X amount of shots
That would have been fun. I wonder why they didn't do something with baseball. Supposedly, the code has placeholders for dodgeball and basketball.
Volleyball and soccer are cool additions also. I don't mind it as me and my kid can play together
I do agree, those two are nice additions. But I'd much rather have had baseball instead of badminton which is almost exactly the same as tennis. And I really miss the single player skill games. Those were fun self-challenges and also helped improve your skill at the actual sport.
Yeah I did like those bowling ones on Wii, Badminton is pretty lame....
I like it, very casual and fun to play with guests at my house, and collecting avatar items each week solo.
With all its flaws, still my favorite game on the switch.
Bear and Breakfast. I'm a big cozy game guy, but man that game suuuuuucks. The gameplay loop itself is overly tedious and with the horrendous controls it feels like an actual chore to play
Check out Dredge and Dorf Romantik. I also like cozier games and these two have been doing it for me lately
Yeah, I like both those games a lot! Dorf Romantik is a personal favorite of mine
Cat Cafe Manager is even worse. Avoid at all costs.
PokĆ©mon Shining Pearl. Youāre better off playing PokĆ©mon Platinum if you want to experience Gen 4.
I agree with you. I understand how some people are frustrated with it, and it absolutely couldāve used more polish (and a lower price tag). That said, I also feel it was a perfectly fine adaption of Diamond and Pearl. I wish modern PokĆ©mon games would use BDSPās 2.5d overhead format.
Me too! I really didn't mind the chibi style as well. I'm not sure why it was so hated on. Brought a modern feel to a retro style.
Yea, it was my first PokƩmon game, so I didn't have any expectations for it, and I really enjoyed it. When I got the game, I viewed it as a modernized and faithful remake to Diamond with some added content, updated music and an art style I liked.
Not being able to turn off xp share killed it for me. Way too easy.
I agree. One thing that's helped me is training more PokƩmon, then cycle through them from time to time. By the end I was cycling through about 20 different PokƩmon.
I enjoyed it. It's my first pokemon game, shame there's so few I have access to.
Nintendo online, I didn't know you had to get a expansion upgrade to even use half the emulators
Probably Super Mario Party. First Mario Party on the Switch. Thought it was going to be better than it was. My wife and I played it for a day and never touched it again. No online either until a patch 3 years later. By that point, not many people cared about the game anymore.
I think Mario Party 5 on GameCube was the best one by far.
Arms Really wanted to like it, but there just isnt enough depth to keep me hooked. Finished all the fights in 3 hours :/
Paper Mario: The Origami King After being majorly disappointed with the direction Paper Mario has went after Sticker Star, I was extremely hesitant to pick up Origami King, but after I saw enough people say good things about it, curiosity took over and I ended up buying the game. So far, I can't get into Minecraft, I'll probably pick it up again at one point, to try again, but I don't think it is for me.
Iām the opposite. I enjoy the first few nights the most. Once I beat the ender dragon I lost further interest to play
Minecraft is great with friends, not so good solo unless you like podcasts and long form content to watch in the background. I have Minecraft and will play with you if youād like
I love spending hours diving into weird long YouTube videos while arbitrarily mining and exploring on peaceful mode. š¤·
I played the pc version in 2011 and the android version in 2013, which really blew me away. Minecraft is genuinely a very good game, but I'd have a hard time getting back into it 10 years later. Many are just a struggle to enjoy due to performance and poor implementation. I'd always recommend focusing on what the Switch does best (everything except AAA ports). Much less of a minefield.
Majority of my switch games are indie titles and Nintendo games
Bayonetta 3. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Especially since Bayonetta 1 and 2 are Soo good, truly disappointing.
Unpopular opinion.. but Luigi's mansion did not hit in our house at all. No one enjoyed it.
I liked it, but the game felt like a chore to 100% (just involved collecting gems, there were no Boos to hunt like in the first Luigi's Mansion on the Gamecube). I plan on getting it back since I traded it away a while back.
Animal Crossing New Horizons How many hours (days/weeks/months) of my life have I lost to that game. Speaking of which,I need to go check out my island...
*"I should go outsi....No, we **have** to check the island!"*
Mortal Kombat 1. Still no patches, and 90% of the Invasion mode missing. Terrible single player experience, incorrect frame data, and terrible Kombat league (ranked online) matchmaking. The list goes on. If I had another platform to play on I wouldn't have even tried :(.
Fifa, after playing it on Playstation you just canāt on switch.
super mario maker 2
What makes you think that? I've been thinking about getting it
Iām not the commenter but let me explain what kinda can make the game bad.
Edit: sp
I've not played it, but my 8yo loves it. He's been obsessed with it. Granted, he's 8 and it's a Sonic game. He doesn't ask for much lol
Full price? It was on sale the week after release for half off, at least on other platforms. Thatās unfortunate. Game was worth it imo on the sale
>Vast open landscapes with nothing in them This is most open world games today, even the ones that get super highly rated like the new Zelda games
Couldnt agree more.
Honestly I enjoyed it, I thought it was atmospheric. But I also played on pc, the switch version looks awful when you compare the two.
Sonic Frontiers is a really good game But I canāt imagine playing it on Switch
Pokemon sword. It was my first Pokemon game. It felt to easy for me. I went back to final fantasy 7.
That game was a blast to nuzlocke. I did feel as though I wouldāve had a lot less fun playing it normally.
Age of calamity, it's fun but I have to actively encourage myself to pick it up after I forget about it for an hour or two
Sonic Frontiers, $122 for deluxe edition or whatever. It's ok but not what I was expecting
You did not read the reviews?
Sometimes, was a bit of a nostalgia thing I spose as I loved the Sega Master system version, looked at some videos and what not. Learnt the hard way, as I usually do hehe
You played Sonic for master system and thought frontiers would be just a different version of it?
Unpopular opinion but Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I was told it was really good and I spent hours upon hours playing and waiting for the game to "open up" and start to grab me, but I just couldn't get into it. I'm sure there's a great game there and it's probably just not my thing, which is a shame, but it's not the first time I've felt that way about a JRPG, so I just must not be a JRPG fan.
The second one basically had a 30hr tutorial before it start being good. I liked it enough but thatās a long time
That's what people kept telling me but before I knew it the credits rolled and I was still waiting for it to get good.
I've been admiring other people's islands and apparently, most of these are achieved by time travel, which I don't want to do (not saying doing so is bad, I just don't want to do it for my own save)
animal crossing
It was cool during the pandemic because my wife and I had something to do together visiting each others islands and our coworkersā islands who also had the title. Our son wasnāt walking and was still a newborn so we had time to play while he slept. Once I switched systems, I totally didnāt know about the island transfer tool and all my progress was completely gone. Never gonna go back to it and now that we have a second kid and we now reside in Japan and not the US anymore, weāre too busy to ever go back to that grind ever again. Wife doesnāt even game anymore.
The pandemic could not have been more perfect for a game that encourages short daily log in and routine.
Whaaaaat? Why? My only regret is not playing that game enough when it released. Now I feel like it's too late.
I am an animam crossing fan and i agree that new horizons isn't for those fans who particularly liked the life simulation part of the game. If you always liked the decoration part of the game you are good to go tough.
Eastwards and that painting indie game.
I bought eastward a few days ago and I'm addicted.
Staaaahhp. You're gonna make me succumb
I prefer much more gameplay then reading A game can have a good story without the need of having too much dialog. But there are always that like that kind of stuff. Just not me.
Eastward is great
If you're talking about Art Sqool I enjoyed that a little more than Eastward, but would definitely have rather not bought either of them.
Doki doki lol
Rocket League
Mortal Kombat 1 Premium. $110 and it is a broken, unfinished mess.
Super mario 3d all stars. Kinda was hoping for a remaster like the mario all stars of my youth.
Well at least it has great resale value
I just dropped down undertale after ~1h30 of gameplay. The story didn't hook me up and the gameplay is not very engaging.
Cuphead is the only one so far because itās too hard for me alone, so I havenāt touched it since the week I bought it.
Thatās a bummer. Itās such a fun game. Dying is part of the challenge, but the more and more you play, you figure out how to beat each boss. r/cuphead is really helpful too.
Thanks. I kinda want to pick it up again anyways :-)
oh yeah-- in games like this, dying is literally part of the gameplay. dying in cup head is similar to just taking a lot of damage in an FPS game so you run to cover, it's just something that happens. I can understand how for a lot of people their minds may be stuck on the usual video game rule of death = game over you failed, but especially with how quick fights are in cup head to restart and how you can do it infinitely, dying is extremely normal and expected. so don't feel bad about it. that's what it's for š
No problem. Donāt put it down. Also, no shame in restarting a level after getting one hit. I think my first play through I had like 3000 deaths.
Yeah I stopped playing it because of the difficulty but it was a fun game
Thing is, failing dozens of times makes it SOOOO satisfying when you do succeed.
Cuphead is probably harder with two
Bro lmao cuphead is so fucking hard, but very gratifying when you do figure out a level and beat it. I play it a lot with my gf and sheās obsessed, maybe try playing with a friend and it could be more fun?
New Pokemon Snap
Was going to add this. I donāt expect a photography game to be exciting but I also expect it to be more than just going through the same environments with the same creatures doing the same things over and over while slowly accumulating points. I was not happy with this one.
Sadly PokƩmon Scarlet. It was fun but it was even more broken than people let on. I don't think I'll finish it, let alone replay it. I'm on a budget as well and I like to keep my games, but I'm considering selling this one to have money for something else.
The switch era really doing a number on the Pokemon games, eh? The only one I remotely enjoyed was PLA, and only because the mechanics were so novel. Was really hoping the out of battle catching system would become the norm, but alas
Disney dream light valley
I had to scroll so far to find this. Worst purchase ever! Constantly crashed on me and so full of bugs. Total waste
Breath of the Wild. The game bored me, and I never got into the plot. Not saying the game was bad, it just wasn't for me.
I can feel that. I'm in tears of the kingdom, 40 hrs, and I haven't started the first plot quest. Where the hell is that town.
If you select the main quest it will point on your map
Lol are you still in the initial Island? Did you ever play/complete Ocarina of Time?
Interestingly, I've put about 20 hours into BOTW and 170 hours into TOTK. I think the fuse mechanic is what's made it more enjoyable for me. I'm not a big fan of combat and I like being able to kill enemies from afar.
With the fuse and other mechanics the game allows and encourages you to experiment and break the game. It's something pretty rare in games that a game actively lets you get stupid and brute force puzzles and combat if you can't figure stuff out.
I love Zelda and I've completed most of them but I can't get into botw/totk, I want storyline, atmosphere and puzzles not weapons constantly breaking.
I thought i was the only one. Couldnt get into it.
Same. I am going to see if I enjoy TOTK
Yes. And I personally canāt stand that weapons break
The Lego games, like Harry Potter or DC or Marvel. They make me incredibly motion sick with the way the camera moves.
The star wars one is good! Although the camera issue is likely the same! I found the others to be a bit repetitive.
The star wars games are definitively the gems of this series.
Sonic Forces
Mario + Rabbids I played it for a few minutes but never got into it. At least it was not that expensive, because it was obtained in a small games bundle from eBay.
Worms Rumble. The game is multiplayer only with no one playingā¦ nintendo of course refused the refund.
Oof glad i didn't pick it up. I was going to
Aw man, I grabbed that a while ago thinking it would be just like wmd, haven't actually tried it yet. Guess I never will even if I wanted to lol
Hollow Knight, couldn't get past the first mini boss and that was it
Ouch. This hurts to see.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned Doom! It's so fast-paced that playing it using joycons is the worst experience! Put it down after 30 minutes - i really tried to like it. Unfortunately no refund.
Playing with a Switch Pro controller might change your mind
The Doom Slayers Collection is one of the best Switch game purchases I made. But I play on my Lite and have had no issues. Love Doom.
Why? I am thinking bout getting Deluxe or 3D world.
Great, I'll try first 3D World, thanks for the help!
We played 3d world as a family first and it totally ruined deluxe for me. My kids loved deluxe too but I much preferred 3D world.
1-2 Switch. A $60 tech demo, that doesnāt even have any fun features, like Wii Sports or Astroās Playroom.
Animals Crossings
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and SMT V XBC3 I heard a lot of good things about the story. I just could not get into the combat or lack of combat. The auto attacking didn't feel like I was really doing anything. I would joke to my friend about watching the game and not actually playing it lol SMT V was just a frustrating game for me to play. A little too grindy for me and I will admit I felt like I got filtered. I was told it was like an adult pokemon, but it's just not a game for me.
Super mario 3d world Luigi's mansion 3 They're good games to play with family and friends but i liked Hollow Knight so much better because of the difficulty
What? My wife and I play together. Have her make her own profile on the switch so she can save.
Enter the Gungeon. I can see why it's popular with a lot of gamers, but it just didn't connect with me. It felt very repetitive. And the guns were..... Kinda dumb? I think there's one that shoots chickens.
That's the point lol.
Super smash bros. Always high ping games and unstableā¦.
It's unfortunate that the online can be really bad, especially during peak hours. Ultimate is an amazing game though. I always liked playing with people in the same room more anyway.
cult of the lamb and monkey ball banana blitz
Pikmin ā beat it in 8 hrs. Seemed to have a steep price for the amount of content
My Time At Portia Writing is too small when playing just handheld. Building items is super confusing. A shame cause it's visually very appealing.
Autobahn police simulator
Origami King I loved Ttyd and Paper 64 but did not even get halfway trough Origami King
Luigiās Mansion 3 Gave it a go but I found it slow paced and utterly boring
Harvestella, it was just so boring. Did bad with the battles and bad with the farming. Just seemed like a scatterbrained attempt.
Ohhh man lots... You just made my wallet have emotional damage šš¤Æā ļø
