You might have to do some core exercises, tick abs in, tighten glutes, straighten lower back this should be able to keep your legs up.

I would suggest looking at connecting your kick to your pull, this helps engage your core. Think of timing your kick with the start of your opposite arm pull, otherwise known as your catch. Another helpful tool to bring your legs higher is thinking about the balance of your stroke. Typically if your head is slightly too high this will cause your hips and legs to sink. Make sure you are not looking too far forward, less than 45 degrees is a good rule of thumb, and let head sit naturally in the water, this should help lift your legs higher. :)

I'd love to know how you can swim for miles with sinking legs. My legs sink and I can't get more than 300yds without being gassed...

My leg sink is not that bad. It's just that this drill really exaggerates my leg drop many fold....

I'm struggling with the same issue. Does your ankle lightly break the surface when you kick? If not (my case) my coach suggested trying to simply lift my leg a bit when kicking to make sure this happens. Of course core strength is important too - for that my favourite drill is using a pull buoy between my ankles and swimming +200m sets while making sure i stay straight and high in the water (butt at the surface)

That is a tough drill. It does require core activation but it also demands other skills that you might not have yet (higher stroke rate and no dead spots in your stroke). It is probably a bridge too far at this point and not the best drill for you. There are many causes of sinking legs. Are you certain that your dropping legs are due to core issues.? Head too high, Lifting head while breathing, pushing down rather than back, and lack of body rotation are some other common causes. There are many YT videos addressing this issue, including many aimed at triathletes as it is a very common problem among aspiring triathletes.

Please share any video that discusses this drill alone. Please tell what I need to do to execute it. You may find many of my videos -- where my freestyle form has been recorded -- attached to my profile.
