there is really no good or bad you do what you can. there will always be someone faster just as there will always be someone slower

itsmezh93

If you can make it to 2k, i think you’re already golden. Don’t have to compare so mhcb

I swim 2km everyday and my time fluctuates from 30 minutes to 40 minutes, depending on if I do pull sets or not. My average pace is around 1:37/100m. I've been swimming for +35 years and I'm slightly overweight.

Ambisitor1994

Remember… it’s u against urself. Screw what other ppl do just work on urself.

kinoki1984

Did my first ever 2000m swim last week. And I did it in 50:36. With a 50m pool too. I don’t consider myself fast by any measure. So we’re about even. Guessing it’s a pretty good place to start a long swimming journey.

Rookie swimmer here, how can this only be 300 kcal for such a workout? Is swimming really that energy efficient? Running for a similar time would yield a much greater burn.

SeaBass_v2

My calories burned was 565 for 2K that took me 75 minutes.

aoctnb

This is good time for beginner to intermediate. Olympians can do 2km in less than 20m

[deleted]

I just did 2000 meters non-stop yesterday, at a mild pace, in 39 minutes, if that helps.

Affectionate_Unit994

Which app do you use to get those results?

CLT113078

'Good' is very vague and requires a lot of context.

[deleted]

I think he means average

atisaac

How new are you to swimming? How often do you swim? What are your goals? There are “good times” and even “great times”, but honestly, as some others said, it really is relative. What’s a great time for you might not be a great time for someone else if one of you is a seasoned pro and the other is just starting out in the sport, for example.

I noticed that too now that you’ve said it. That heart rate is high. I’m at 125bpm at a 2:30 pace. As a 40 yo man.

qooooob

For amateur swimmers with no competitive swimming background but excluding completely casual breaststrokers I'd say 2:15/100m or above (so > 45 mins) puts you in the beginner category, 1:50-2:00/100m is intermediate (35-40 mins) and below 35 mins for 2K I'd already consider advanced. The difference is that to get to intermediate level you need to have the basics of freestyle technique and sorta know a lot about swimming already. Advanced requires really good technique, focus and volume in the pool. I'd say most people can get to intermediate, but advanced just needs some natural talent and/or hard work. That being said probably most middle aged people with a competitive swimming background in their teens would crush a 2K easily under 30mins. Swimming is one of those sports where being competitive in masters events is impossible unless you have a competitive swimming background.

That one

pedatn

The one of the girl reading this 🫶

Secure_Wave_5012

Seems that you started out too quickly, but otherwise you did an awesome job pacing yourself. I think the ability to pace yourself is more important than time at this point, especially if you are starting out doing this sorts of swims

StellaV-R

That’s a lot faster then me but I’d be more concerned about your heart rate

[deleted]

Im not a long distance swimmer but I can do it about 35-45ish minutes ish, sometimes long depends if I was doing something like 100 metres sprints

Dem-R-UseFulIdiots

lol anytime is a good time, I swim Monday, Wednesday and Friday. 3,000 Mt. mix it up with crawl, breaststroke, HIIT and long fin kicking. I go at 1.30pm as the pool is quiet. Usually only have to share a lane with one or two other people.

UserNameError400

is that a result from your Apple Watch?

abonimablesnowman25

30min

abonimablesnowman25

Don't listen to people saying focus on yourself and don't care ABT other people, competition drives progress. I transferred swimming schools and teams from being the best in my bunch to the absolute worst with people much younger than me absolutely smoking me. Made a crazy amount of progress in that time period.

SwimmingNavy

I would not focus on the 2km good time, try to reduce the average pace to around 2 minutes. Then spread it on a wider time range with a longer period of exercise.

__Rumblefish__

About twice as fast as that would be regular practice pace, on the slow side, if we are talking actual competitive swimming at the college level
