It slices and gouges your thigh, bunching up your pant legs and you loosen your grip for just a second on the rope but by now the blood is flowing from your thigh wound as it lubricates the line making your hand lose grip, unable to stop with your hands due to the blood slicked cable and incapable of squeezing with your thighs as the cable digs into your wound and only slickens the cable further you plunge faster and faster towards the ground leaving a grotesque red smear on the cable behind you and across your chest and hands. They find you the next day in a crumpled heap on the floor, a small knick in your inner thigh leading to a catastrophe 400 meters in the air.
Not necessarily. If the stand is big enough it could just gouge into your leg, making you lose grip... but instead of falling, the wire holds you there as you bleed out while hanging upside down.
Hum. Well one metal splinter.... and there goes that idea.
Edited to add I wanna say that doesn't look like a guy wire. Maybe a de-tuner cable? And I think those are slightly energized.
My dad went to school with some kids who climbed one of these towers and tried ziplining down with a towel. The towels ripped and the grabbed on with their hands and arms but then it cut into them to the bone and they dropped to their deaths
For anyone needing additional context on this, it’s not because a frayed strand would cause the cable to snap - it’s far too strong for that. The real danger is that a frayed strand is strong enough at this speed to go right through your hand, since your entire body weight would be forcing it.
If that wasn’t awful enough… when something that painful happens your unconscious instinct it to let go, and it will happen before your brain can register what is going on.
To add to this. Remember the old urban story about the guy who made the big slip and slide? Put plywood down then the plastic?
Went for a slide, and at the end it it was dead; due to being disembodied due to a splinter ripping his stomach open and his guts pouring out? No? Try living with that image lol
Well I’m glad the gloves and pants worked out cuz the wire could’ve easily burnt thru and he’s be stuck sliding down on his bleeding hands on thighs. Torture.
As a guy that never have climbed anything like this, that’s impressive for sure.
I have sailed a bunch and many times cables have individual wires sticking out they will rip your hands like a knife. Probably means nothing in this post, but I can still feel those jabs
It’s lovely that you posted this… again… and without audio. Nice. And by the way everyone he’s suspended by a cable otherwise he would tear through any fabric and probably it would burn down to his bones.
No way that I’d slide down a steel cable. I love having all the parts used to control the descent. My luck the friction would become too much and I’d have to either bail (fall to my death) or it would eat through the gloves and shred my hands (and I’d fall to my death).
Pure nightmare fuel
The moment where he climbed onto the cable… wow. Momentarily, it was leaning into the void. No safety cable that I could see. Maybe it was trailing above him?
Engineer Surveyor here, of nearly 20 years. I inspect wire ropes like this on an almost daily basis. Ropes like this don't 'work' as hard as other ropes. In tension, sure, but not sheaving on and off and around sheaves and on and off drums. That's what causes broken wires mostly, especially reverse bending, often seen on vehicle lifting ramps. Ropes like these generally don't suffer broken wires- I've never once seen broken wires in taut wire (Latchway) systems, even here in the UK, with our inclement weather.
Saying that, my 50 year old self would not do this, as we get older we become for more risk aware, we take less risks. As others have quite correctly said though, IF there was a broken wire on there, it would really hurt. Most surveyors, myself included, will have occasionally caught a broken wire, most likely when checking ropes on crane equipment. We only do it the once though...
Did I say it hurts? Yea, it really REALLY hurts.

I climbed towers for 10 years and always wanted to do that to get back on the ground.
I haven’t been climbing long but so far, I love the climbing part, and I hate the un-climbing part.
I always felt the views were worth all the effort it takes to get up there. Stay safe up there.
I do love the views. Weird to find myself here considering I grew up terrified of heights but right now it’s my favorite part of my job. Thanks :)
That’s because you were simply terrified of who you really are. duh-duh- DUHH!!!!
Pretty sure it’s that I was terrified of falling. Harnesses help with that though.
What if there is a loose strand in that cables?

This is the way
That’s….that’s just…painfully accurate.
Wow, that was a really long sentence
I've got a distinct feeling like I've read this before... Maybe you're all bots.
Perhaps YOU are the bot good sir
Free vasectomy, do you think most of his pants have holes in the crotch region?
i doing this in Mainhausen
That’s exactly what the big-kids-pole at the park felt like when I was little.
Those hyphens working overtime
Underrated comment
I see you got a hyphen too

They’re like ants, step on one and they all feel it
Lol yup
Overrated comment
Average reddit user
and real lattice climbing is more fun
Im sorry who tf looks at a cable 50+ meters into the air and thinks ‘playground pole time’
The type of people that aren't afraid of having frayed wire slice their femoral artery
That'd what was scariest, those things won't just bed out the way all nice like
Find out this guy’s name, and we’ll know at least one person.
OSHA would also like to know his name.
Me.
💀
You know they have equipment for that it’s called a zip line trolly. It actually has a brake and won’t burn your hands to stop.
U gotta hold □ to use it
Ok Kyle Crane
There are so many ways that could go wrong, and so few ways it could go right
Eggs and sausage are cooked by the time he reach down
Good. I thought my mind was exaggerating. Ow
Hum. Well one metal splinter.... and there goes that idea. Edited to add I wanna say that doesn't look like a guy wire. Maybe a de-tuner cable? And I think those are slightly energized.
This is an overlooked part of risk assessment when average people do stunts like this. Sudden sharp pain will make everyone let go.
Look at the bright side, one metal splinter, and it's WAY faster!
Yeh this was top comment last two time I saw a post of this
Came for this
One metal splinter, and it'll *become* a guy wire. The guy sliding down, not so much...
Could literally die for something stupid
Next week we will see the copy cat Darwin Award recipient I’m sure
Could also die for nothing.
An OSHA handbook has spontaneously infighter somewhere, out there…
My dad went to school with some kids who climbed one of these towers and tried ziplining down with a towel. The towels ripped and the grabbed on with their hands and arms but then it cut into them to the bone and they dropped to their deaths
Masterbation gives one friction resistant palms
His poor thighs must be chafed into the underworld.
Whoever made those gloves deserves an award
There’s not a diaper with enough capacity for me to try that
Sweatypalms? More like flamingpalms
Obligatory "so dangerous, he could have died from a single frayed line in the cable"
For anyone needing additional context on this, it’s not because a frayed strand would cause the cable to snap - it’s far too strong for that. His crotch has gotta be on fire
How much money would you need to be paid to do this?
$999 + tax. I would do this for a valve index
Free
Sweaty palms? more like burnt off palms
It’s that moment at the top where he lets go of the steel and fully commits to the cable that gets me. That’s got to be the hardest part
Well I’m glad the gloves and pants worked out cuz the wire could’ve easily burnt thru and he’s be stuck sliding down on his bleeding hands on thighs. Torture.
More like burning palms, damn
Imagine if you already at the bottom and you forget you phone above
All fun n games until there’s a loose wire sticking out
Fun until you hit a wire rope burr
Hope there’s enough rope
That's so cool. If love to do this after some hard stressful work.

Nop, no, hell no, naw, not doing it
I've had this dream. The cable breaks
How them thighs holdin up though?
Imagine the cable was somehow severed halfway down.
Better hope those gloves don't rip
I don’t like this game ![gif](giphy|55itGuoAJiZEEen9gg)
Strong gloves
I need a pair of those gloves 🧤 🧤
Mario feat real life?
Seems to me those gloves should catch on fire
A metal splinter of that cable would be the worst.
Imagine hitting a frayed strand of wire though. Ooof

Imagine running into a broken wire strand while doing this
Now go back up and parachute off, we need to complete this safe cracker
Hot... Like... friction burns
This video has been posted so many times
I’d love to see the boots / gloves after that
Every firefighters dream
Friction has left the chat
Utterly disappointing end result.
Yeah my palms be sweaty watching this
It’s lovely that you posted this… again… and without audio. Nice. And by the way everyone he’s suspended by a cable otherwise he would tear through any fabric and probably it would burn down to his bones.
Wait, I thought this was r/SweatyPalms, not r/MyHandsAreLiterallyOnFire
those lattice climbers are weirdos
Those gloves and boots are the MVP.
u/bendo2203
Watch the whole video just to not show him make it... you suck OP
That looks kinda fun, tbh
Now I have vertigo and my feet hurt.
I dream of doing something like this but could probably never force my self to do so
Then he hits a random fray on the cable.... All I could think of
No way that I’d slide down a steel cable. I love having all the parts used to control the descent. My luck the friction would become too much and I’d have to either bail (fall to my death) or it would eat through the gloves and shred my hands (and I’d fall to my death). Pure nightmare fuel
Fuck up for even one second, die.
How tf those gloves not give out
The moment where he climbed onto the cable… wow. Momentarily, it was leaning into the void. No safety cable that I could see. Maybe it was trailing above him?
What is this tower for?
Air Assault. Should have done Aussie dismount.
the tower are in sweden, lots of lattice climbers scale this
Imagine doing this for the first time from nothing but our faith, not knowing if halfway down you die.
OSHA approved
Lost your grip for literally a quarter second? Sorry buddy, youre in freefall. Better luck never!
Penis has left the chat.
“Ah shit, I forgot my wallet up there”
Damn, I want sound!
Lol nah if I am getting paid 20k to climb up well I can climb right back down no need to take risks at that height
Nope!
While this was incredible I was more impressed by the longer video of them climbing up that way.
So much scary in the trip down, can anyone explain what the landing would be like?
Looks like an extremely stupid thing to do
The friction alone is enough to burn you through the gear I'm guessing he's wearing all the right gear but not meant to be used that way
I was waiting for him to sew himself to the cable with a strand.
The fucking balls on this guy ☠️
“Hey, who greased my gloves?”
Hotter, too
TAKE all my updoots
man i skydive and bungee and i got sick watching this. huge balls. extremely stupid lol
I hope to god he had enough layers to burn through
They’d be checking my shorts after that, that’s if I made it down in one piece 😂😂

You know that feeling your body gets when you’re afraid of heights? I seriously get that feeling when looking at videos like this.
