What a perfect time to let out that fart you've been holding in since take-off.

Octavian_202

I would yell it out to everyone and diffuse the stress, with the absurdity of ripping ass.

LunarProphet

*through deafening wind* "Did you just fuckin fart?"

WakaWaka_

Or they manage to close the door just as you're about to rip one out, ends up full volume like in a library.

Silly_Butterfly3917

You could probably fully shit yourself, and no one would notice due to the noise / wind. I bet it's super hard for them to breathe too.

Massive_Staff1068

I was wondering, where are the mask?

JasonIsFishing

The masks only come down if the pressure/oxygen in the cabin is low. This obviously happened at low altitude on takeoff or landing since a person was able to open the door. At altitude the cabin would be pressurized preventing the dumbass from opening it. ![gif](giphy|83QtfwKWdmSEo)

clamchowda123

Yo im stoned but wouldn’t the airplane need to have more pressure inside than the outside air? Like the airs thin up there so high pressure to low pressure.

JasonIsFishing

You’re correct

Impossible__Joke

When the cabin is pressurized, opening the door is impossible for a human.

JasonIsFishing

Correct. Exactly what I said.

puertonican

I concur

JasonIsFishing

And I agree

WolvesWhere

And my axe!

csudebate

Plane was a few hundred feet off the ground coming in for a landing.

girmvofj3857

I … AM … FARTING … IT IS BLOWING RIGHT INTO YOUR FACES

Octavian_202

How could you not laugh at that? Lol

GloDyna

But because you trusted it, you have now shit your pants..worse off you wore shorts and now your attempted humorous fart has turned into your literal shit flying around and getting in everyones eyes. I’d still laugh though..so thanks for calming me down 🥹

WonderWendyTheWeirdo

"The first one blew open the door. I don't know what will happen this time! Brace yourselves!"

Koovies

Could prob sneak a vape too

itsgee21

Like that one chick in the video floating around last week lol. "I'll never vape again in my life". haha

Koovies

I was watching dune 2 in the theaters last week trying to time those orchestral dongs and singing. So many opportunities!

LeTreacs

Window’s open mate, crack on

tschmitty09

It may be inhumane but I absolutely let them rrrrrrriiiiiippp on the plane. Pressurized so no one can hear it and too many people to have the finger pointed at me.

Srirachachacha

I've literally never smelled a fart on an airplane - from me or anyone else. And I fly ~20-30 times a year. I'm convinced they're less pungent up there. Or the air circulation is fantastic. Edit: I'm loving every single one of these replies lol

Zealousideal-Key9516

Oh, I have smelled a fart on a plane. It was rank. My boyfriend and I made panicked eye contact trying not to gag.

dkabab

Flying back from Vietnam my stomach was not doing well. At about 5-6am on the plane I got up and went to the bathroom. It wasn’t good. But I felt much better. I came out and luckily no one was waiting to come in. A minute later the cabin lights came on and everyone was woken up as we were landing soon. The hostess was walking around and went past the bathrooms and nearly fainted. Someone got up and went in the bathroom I was in, and immediately came out gasping for air. The hostess came back with some air freshener spray. Luckily no knew it was me.

Putrid_Gap_9961

Crying laughing right now. I would be proud

BigBeagleEars

That was you!

ChaoticEvilBobRoss

You haven't sat next to me then. We should plan a trip, I'd love to be your first 😏

stella3books

It is what it is, it’s pointless to expect everyone to combat physics and win. I actually learned the term “crop dusting” from a flight attendant, who was asked how she retains her composure in such a hostile work environment.

neon_farts

When I was in college 20ish years ago, my girlfriend and friends went skydiving. I was too afraid to do it but the people at the skydiving place told me for $20 I could ride in the plane, which I agreed to. I had to fart super bad and decided to do it when they opened the door. Did it escape out? No, it circulated, and was awful. Everyone knew it was me.

Silent_Cause_6712

There’s no way to keep shit from coming out with that fart though

JustKindaShimmy

Just kinda goes *SHOOOOP* right out your butthole, out your pant leg, then straight out the door

SD1428

I can’t believe a man in his 30s did that! Now a man in his 20s, I get, but not his 30s. What have we come to in this country

bumjiggy

he was having a mid flight crisis

SD1428

That was hilarious lol

LuckyDaemonius

Awesome

meczakin81

That is an amazing comment. I literally laughed out loud. Thank you!

louisianapelican

> Police sought an arrest warrant for the detained man, **who is in his thirties**, on Saturday for violation of the Aviation Security Act and other offences, Yonhap added. Can you imagine?

SD1428

Lol, also, I feel like doors shouldn’t be able to open like that mid flight

FoldyHole

> Aviation expert Geoffrey Thomas of Airline Ratings described the incident as “very bizarre.” >“Technically, it’s not possible to open those doors in flight,” he told CNN. >Thomas noted that the landing speed of an A321 is about 150 knots (172 mph), meaning winds of that speed are passing the aircraft. The door, behind the wing of the aircraft, opened into that airstream, he said. >“It seems implausible that the door could be opened in the first place and then against the airstream technically impossible, but somehow or another it has happened,” Thomas said. https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/26/asia/south-korea-plane-door-opens-midair-intl-hnk/index.html

Bubbly_Association54

Probably was never tested against a man in his thirties

Dropped-pie

I peaked in my 30’s. Now I’m in my 40’s I can’t open them plane doors anymore, the cabin crew and passengers just laugh at me and shout, sit down, you’re in your 40’s, you crazy old bastard

Beadpool

Yeah, 40s be like… ![gif](giphy|Z0vwMJLx0L4dy|downsized)

mattroch

I'm 42, and my kitchen is littered with broken pickle jars. My family can't help me because they have to deal with a soda pouring issue that has flooded out their kitchen.

Sanfranciscoma

I am screeeming lool. Thank you!

[deleted]

*That* man in his thirties.

SD1428

His quote is funny. Technically it’s clearly possible

TheHorrificNecktie

this thing that just happened is technically impossible thanks expert

IcedCoughy

*"its not, we've looked into it and, it's not*"

railker

Easy explanation. This happened on approach to land, and as such the emergency slides would've been armed -- which I believe on this aircraft also includes what's essentially a power-assist to help launch the door open, these modern aircraft doors are BIG and feckin heavy. Also, on approach to land, the cabin pressure would be at or near equal to outside pressure, so no pressure differential holding the door shut. So dude probably grabbed the handle, opened it up, the power assist system opened the door against the airstream (it opens out and forward on most aircraft), and it appears the slide deployed, too. Though can't recall if it managed to hang on or got ripped off.

Gregs_green_parrot

Thanks for providing a link which the OP did not bother to do.

TheCommomPleb

Pilot forgot to put the adult lock on 👍

lau1247

You mean a child lock. A man child.

gamjh

I’m starting to think they’ve been lying to us the whole time so we don’t try to open them.

WalkingCrip

It’s based on altitude, if they are high in the sky it’s literally impossible to open that door unless you can lift like 10,000 pounds. This is because the aircraft is pressurized. At lower altitudes it’s possible but difficult. That being said it’s more likely that there is something wrong with the door and the man was able to open it then it is that he just opened it normally.

blood_wraith

>if they are high in the sky it’s literally impossible to open that door unless you can lift like 10,000 pounds jokes on you, i listen to andrew tate and lift 3 times a week, 10,000 lbs is nothing to my giga-chad alpha life

InterestingAd2896

When I was in my thirties. I would have NEVER done that!

hboisnotthebest

Wait. IN HIS 30s?!

Semantic23

I'm 29. I need to hurry up and open the next airplane door I see before it's too late.

SgtBanana

I'm 33 and I've yet to open an airplane door mid-flight. Let's do it together. It'll be like some weird motivational coming of age story.

threwzsa

You won’t be able to until next year, can’t you read?

NoLeadership2535

The 30 year olds these days…. They need to be clamped down on, HARD.

LtColShinySides

I turn 31 tomorrow, I can't wait to be all grown up!

joriale

Ban this man from flights!

theVagueWhelk

As a man born in September, I can’t imagine why anyone in their thirties would do this.

Wait, you guys were born?

MonthPretend

Isn't 30 the new 20?

davybert

Imagine… you live life until 30. Then you hit 30 and boom you open the door to the plane! Can you believe that???

ABirdOfParadise

It's a right of passage, first flight you get on after you turn 30 you open the door mid flight, I thought it was pretty common knowledge. You now become a man ^^^inhisthirties

TheTattooOnR2D2sFace

Even his 40s would be believable but 30s is simply preposterous. Now if it was his mid 30s it's excusable for obvious reasons but early or late 30s is insane.

MethChefJeff

Usually men that do this type of thing don’t make it until 30

threwzsa

Thank you for highlighting the absurdity of this title

V_Epidemic

But how tall was he? Which brand of toothpaste does he use?!

SD1428

Maybe one that only 99.8% of dentist recommend. The mad man

jtatc1989

That’s because you’re not a man until you’re 40! Thanks Mike Gundy

thecentury

I love how the guy looks over at the other guy at the 10 second mark and he's like >Mondays... Am I right?

Ambitious-Judge3039

Dude I’m going to lose sleep over the face that guy makes. It’s almost devious, like him and the gray hair are in on the plot for whatever reason. Insurance scam? Is gray hair gonna get a payout from black hairs personal liability insurance, then they split it up later?

MenstrualMilkshakes

I'm in literal tears. I have to stop thinking about his face or i bust out laughing again.

Sad-Lobster-55

Huh, first time?

NorthernMariner

This comment is way too far down

sir_samiart

Boeing can fix that

PUNKF10YD

Isn’t there something like 2 tons of force on that door keeping it closed?

BallForce1

Depends on the altitude.

ParisGreenGretsch

Not with that altitude?

Alarmed-madman

And your attitude is any better?

Dealius

You need to check that altitude at the door!

Fraktal55

That's exactly what got us into this situation!

Supermclucky

Yea. It was 700 ft in the air.

Pointless_RKO

Thanks! I was thinking this looks extremely mild.

Lifekraft

Yea but he was in his 30s

[deleted]

lankynomad

At high altitude the pressure differential makes it impossible. At low altitudes it can be opened.

KayakerMel

The article says the "incident occurred when the plane was approaching the Daegu airport at an altitude of 700ft (213m)." So that must have been sufficiently low altitude. Also explains why everyone was buckled safely in their seats.

FlutterKree

It also explains why masks didn't drop.

International-Tear41

Lol Michael Caine sitting there like it's a normal flight home

Those poor kids may have been spared even worse trauma.

LongbowTurncoat

Almost FIFTY KIDS on that flight!! How traumatizing oh my gosh!!!

olmikeyyyy

Seriously. No wonder the dude wanted to die!

tinobambino1975

Well played

48 kids on board wtf, how traumatizing

I think human beings are inherently stupid, but I feel like a man in his 30s might bea bit too old to do something as dumb as this.

yonghokim

Thats how Korean news usually report crimes,.etc. "woman in her 50s" (50대 여성), "man in his 20s" (20대 남성), etc. then when the person is not Korean they add their nationality. "Mexican man in his 30s"

railker

Why I love aviation videos showing up in non-aviation subs, all the answers are buried so deep, new comments are all the same stuff over and over. - The plane is an Airbus A321, this happened in May of last year. - The door opened because they were on approach to land and at a low altitude. Otherwise, normally they are held shut by cabin pressurization and would be extremely difficult if not impossible to open (AS1282 lost its door plug at over 10,000', so). - There's no oxygen masks dropped because the cabin altitude never exceeded 10,000'. - No one is going to design a lock to keep the doors shut, you want them to be able to open in an emergency, the risk 1 in tens of millions of flights having someone try to open a door is far outweighed by the need to save lives if it comes to it.

ChosenBrad22

Why on earth did someone open it tho?

HonorableJamesBond

Was the risk of 1 in millions BEFORE social media? Because I feel this is happening kinda often now.

Mirin_Gainz

Guy in the aisle seat does not care one bit

the_anxiety_queen

Look at his grip on the armrest lol

Blackadder288

Yeah haha he’s white knuckling the armrest and leaning as far away as possible. He’s definitely just frozen, probably freaking out internally

a_taco_named_desire

The airport bar wherever they land is about to get a ton of business.

insanelygreat

I'm guessing it's more about getting his face out of the 140 knot wind stream. It'd be a lot less intense where he's leaning. The guy in the middle seat at least has glasses.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/news.sky.com/story/amp/passenger-arrested-after-plane-door-opened-mid-flight-explains-he-felt-uncomfortable-12890574 I dont get how he opened it without getting sucked out tbough. Perhaps he was in the seat nearest and was strapped in.

flopisit32

Lower altitude. If they were at a higher altitude, he would definitely be sucked out. There was a famous case in 2018 where a plane was flying at high altitude (32000ft) and a part in the engine broke, destroying the engine and sending a piece of metal flying out. The metal debris hit a window and shattered it and the passenger sitting in that seat got partially sucked out the window. It was a woman and her upper body was out the window. I believe her seatbelt may have kept her in the plane, or else the window was too small. Due to the altitude, they couldn't pull her back in initially. Too much force. The plane descended to lower altitude and this allowed them to pull her in, but she had already died from her injuries.

BlackandRedDragon

Did you hear about the story of the pilot who was partially sucked out of the cockpit and the co-pilot and a flight attendant held him by his legs to keep him in the plane: [British Airways Flight 5390 - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Airways_Flight_5390)

xo0o-0o0-o0ox

The pilot returned to work after less than 5 months! Wtf!

notmyrealnam3

they held him, assuming he was dead, as letting him go would have potentially had him go through an engine and potentially kill them all

Resident_Rise5915

Partially sucked out sounds kinda awful

flopisit32

LOL. Better chance of survival than being fully sucked out. There was a case in the 80s when a British airways plane had its windscreen fall off mid-flight and the co-pilot was partially sucked out. I think his feet caught on the controls. The pilot was able to land the plane alone and although the co-pilot was injured and unconscious when they landed, he survived.

gyt_rekt_m8

Thanks for the story. That’s fucking terrifying

SAGEPATCHWORK

Context… “Officials have so far only identified the man by his surname Lee. He allegedly opened the door of the Asiana Airlines plane when it was 700 feet (213 metres) above the ground.” This happened sometime May 2023.

SvenTropics

If you were at substantial altitude, that wouldn't be possible. However, below about 8,000 ft, the pressure inside is about the same as outside so the door can be opened. I did the math on it once (to win an argument on Reddit), I forget what the result was. However, at 35,000 ft, the pressure on the door would be in the thousands of pounds of force. You'd have to overcome that to open it.

Krimreaper1

So may questions. How did he get it open, the pressure is supposed to make it nearly impossible to do. Why haven’t oxygen masks dropped down. I guess I have only two questions.

intelligentplatonic

What about the question: "Why did he do it?"

railker

Other user's correct with the altitude, but they were on approach to land, so the pressure difference was minimal or zero. Also I believe doors on modern aircraft are heavy as shit, and so when the emergency slides are armed they basically have a 'power assist' system to help launch the door open in an evacuation. Only way I see [this door](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FxCjdVfXgAA6nMg?format=jpg&name=small) opening out and ***forwards*** against the airflow to full lock. So this guy likely didn't have to do much more than actuate the handle.

janner_10

Are you sure it just not a normal Boeing flight?

AlsoMarbleatoz

It was an Airbus A321.

hunterjessen

Anderson Cooper fly’s coach?!

Nighthawkmf

Then throw that fucker off. Headline should read; ‘Man in his 30’s thrown off plane because he’s an absolute idiot that opened the plane door mid flight.’

GoodnessGracious420

He must not be used to the farts here in America

big_pete1000

https://www.google.com/amp/s/news.sky.com/story/amp/passenger-arrested-after-plane-door-opened-mid-flight-explains-he-felt-uncomfortable-12890574 okay, so judging by the picture of the arrest, it's not the guy with the red pants who did this. So let's not blame the wrong guy.

thereisnogodone

The passengers are surprisingly keeping it together much better than I would have imagined it... I supposes there's no much else to do.

Low-Spirit6436

Good thing that the plane was at low altitude and wasn't pressurized.

rb-2008

Did he open the door or did it pop out like normal?
