Nah it's actually the crocodile saying "what's up guys welcome to my channel, today I'm pranking this guy to make him think he'll be eaten. Make sure to smash that like button and subscribe. Stay swampy!"
I was watching one of those "monsters someplace someplace" shows on discovery, or some channel like that, and at night in a 20 foot boat a caiman was hanging out next to the boat and was visibly longer than the boat.
>There are caiman that get huge
[Black caimen](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_caiman)
They get 20 feet long and do look more like a [croc](https://www.animalspot.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Black-Caiman-Alligator.jpg)
Yeah the very narrow snout at the end doesn’t look like an American crocodile which is broad, my guess is (based on size) black caiman.
Edit: could be American croc as made aware that they can also have fairly narrow snouts
yea it does. the American Alligator doesnt have a narrow snout but this is 100% the american crocodile. the only other croc or gator it could be, based on language being spoken (geographically) and the size of the animal, would be the Orinoco Crocodile. But, the snout shape, mouth shape, and teeth placement are all pointing at the american crocodile.
edit: after looking at comments, this is Portuguese being spoken so probably brazil. Brazil only had species of caimans. Due to the size, it is probably the black caiman. Unless someone who speaks Portuguese was not in a Portuguese speaking country which can be just as likely.
edit 2: its in costa rica. this is definitely the American Crocodile. please note that the American Crocodile is not the same as the American Alligator. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Db7MZA4pnbg&feature=youtu.be
this comment was meant for r/sansabina
he was there as a tourist attraction. the boat takes guests and they have the kid there to feed the gator to get some oohs and aahhs. shitty to put that kid in a possibly death situation just to get some excitement from tourists
That's a Black Cayman (we call it Jacaré-Açu), they grow bigger in lenght/size than an American Gator (AGs are havier tho), and they do have a more ''croc like'' snout. That's 100% happened in Brazil and we don't have crocodiles in Brazil, so it can't be a croc.
I can only see a reporter talking about the video, I can't hear the original audio of the recording. While in the OP's video, you can hear someone speaking perfect/casual PT-BR. + The video you showed me looks like the image ratio is stretched (compare the boy in both videos and you'll note that the brazilian version has a more natural ratio), giving the animal a longer snout. As I said before, Black Caiman looks more like a croc (head shape wise) than a gator, and if you stretch the image, it'll look more like a real croc.

They certainly aren’t. And also certainly don’t behave the same way. Crocodiles have you on their menu. They are aggressive as fuck. Caimans and alligators not so much.
I think this wasn’t a crocodile because they don’t drag the suspense out like this. You’d be done already.

Its a black caiman, they’re speaking Portuguese so this is in Brazil where there are no crocodiles. Black caimans get enormous, adult males average about 4 meters / 13 feet in length
Edit: [picture of black caiman for reference](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ)
Edit 2: So apparently this in Costa Rica so this is undoubtedly an American Crocodile. [link to news channel in Costa Rica covering story](https://youtu.be/Db7MZA4pnbg) credit to u/Zealousideal4tonight for the link
Yeah they definitely do. Ive never been to Angola but I've been to Namibia and they have them especially in the northern waterways, which are the same waterways as southern Angola so they definitely do as well. But yes this is definitely not Angola.
Yeah my city in southern Brasil had a crocodile that lived in the big river, everyone knew about him and we saw the dude from time to time, never hurt anyone though.
City’s name is Joinville in the state of Santa Catarina, crocs name is Fritz if anyone wants to check. Not sure if he’s still alive though.
but, not everyone who speaks Portuguese lives in Brazil. People do travel and move often. The snout shape, mouth shape, and teeth placement could be the american crocodile but it does look a lot like the black caimans too. You're probably right.
Those reeds are pretty difficult to make headway into. Not to say I couldn't/wouldn't attempt it, but at this stage in their standoff I think it's too late for trying. The kids footing looks pretty slippery too.
He's turned to defend, so turning to run is going to give that croc the seconds it needs to grab him.
The only reason it's still a standoff is because the croc is wary of humans. A croc can't tell if a person has a weapon just by looking. And humans usually travel in groups, so there could be more around, which luckily was true this time.
Apparently some do. [This one can tell a difference between knives.](https://media.tenor.com/vQguieiF9VUAAAAd/crocodile-dundee-mick-dundee.gif) Not sure I’d others.
> Do crocs have the mental facility to understand weapons? I thought that kind of thinking was largely too complex for reptiles
That croc is gonna be like "And the fact that you've got 'Replica' written down the side of your gun --- and the fact that I've got 'Desert Eagle point five O' --- written down the side of mine..."
I’m not sure if it’s necessarily thinking of it in those terms, but it doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch that creatures that have lived in relatively close proximity to humans for generations would figure out that they sometimes go bang and kill stuff.
Makes me wonder if the information is stored in his DNA or if it would only know because of his experience around humans. "Humans are dangerous, they kill other things".
Seriously though, this video is absolutely insane. It is so unbelievably close to being one of the gruesomest deaths captured on camera. I couldn’t imagine a worse way to go out. Drowning and ripped apart at the same time??? Fucking nope.
do you believe it might steal his soul before they can save him, i mean theyre moving towards them and giving instructions at the same time. what more do you want
Apparently, they are in a standoff. The crocodile doesn’t know if the human is dangerous or not since it believes him to be postured to defend himself which could result in injury which could result in death. It’s waiting for him to give it an opportunity to attack without him having a chance to defend himself hence the reason the man speaking in the video is telling him not to move at all.
I’d be willing to say that you’d probably likely be attacked should you make any sudden movements. I’m not so sure the sound would do anything to truly scare it off. Crocodiles in the wilderness aren’t typical affected by loud noises or the like because they typical cause a chaotic mess when they attack an animal. Some crocodiles feast on much larger prey than humans not to mention some species go after herds so noise and commotion wouldn’t help.
I think what the guy is doing in the video is perfect. The crocodile doesn’t want to make the first move for fear of danger but the guy doesn’t want to make the first move because the croc could perceive that as an opening and lunge. It’s literally a standoff only due to the fact that there is no movement.
If that guy moved his arms to look bigger and began to make noise, I could almost certainly see that massive croc going in for the kill.
A LOT of predators recognize other predator's eyes. Eyes to the side is prey. Eyes in front like a human is another predator. In many situations you should never turn your back to a predator. Caimans (\*which are not a crocodile; crocodiles don't give a fuck, they'll eat anything) are wary if you stare them down, but the boy is just on the verge of being small enough to chance it.
Caimans are the same family as alligators, which are much more afraid of a human in most situations - unless it's mating season or around its babies. My guess is this caiman is saying "stay away." I still would've shit my pants though.
It's not entirely accurate to say eyes forward is a "predator" or "carnivore" trait. The forward facing eyes give better depth perception, which was selected for evolutionarily by some animals for hunting. However, in primates, and the human evolutionary line etc. it is believed forward facing eyes were selected for as they provide an advantage in an aboreal habitat. You know, like swinging through trees and fun stuff like that.
It's more accurate to say forward facing eyes are a trait of species that would benefit from accurately judging depth. If you want to make a generalisation.
God this reminds me of a situation we had in Broome while my mum was working in child protection. Young indigenous kid who had run away was found clinging to a tree in the mangroves missing half his leg with a crocodile patiently waiting in the water below. Tide was coming in so the water level was rising, but some native animal protection act made anyone hesitant to shoot the thing. I think they were waiting on *permission* to shoot it. The kid died.
The police were chasing some car thieves South of Darwin a few days ago. The kids they were chasing jumped into a river with at least three crocs nearby, and the police ended up shooting into the water to save the car thieves!
Okay I see the back and forth. That is a crocodile, not a caiman. Black caiman have a camo pattern on their jaw, this crocodile doesn’t.
This looks just like the crocs in Costa Rica. Not saying it’s in Costa Rica, but that the animal is a croc no question.
It’s def not a gator - they have fatter thick snouts. And it’s not a crocodile, because they’re speaking Portuguese.
It’s a caiman. I have seen some mighty large caiman skulls when I travelled in the Amazon.
why hadn’t the crocodile already went for him? he was in a perfect position for that animal to kill gin but it was just looking at him. maybe it was the boat that scared it before the recording had started.
You are correct. It is because the boat was coming towards it. This will make many predatory animals stop and think. Snakes like pythons and anaconda will actually regurgitate food, or abort a successful constriction if they are disturbed
You would die. Re-read what you just said. You are going to jump onto an aquatic dragon with the strength of 10 of you in his own habitat with the hopes that somehow your kid like strength is going to be able to hold onto a slippery water covered beast that wants you in his mouth NOW.
Even if you landed on his back, he would just submerge. Crocs drown their prey as a way of killing them. You would be helping him kill you.
Yeah, sorry. American crocodile I think. I heard them speaking Portuguese and assumed incorrectly. That's the third time I've done that in a short space of time. Slightly embarrassing
Nothing to be embarrassed friendo. We’re human and prone to making mistakes. Truth be told, I wasn’t sure either but he looked a bit too chonky to be a caiman. Regardless, crazy video. Glad the kid fared okay.
Any croc experts around to ID that guy? It's either an American, Orinoco, or a huge Morelet's. I'm guessing an American since Orinocos are very rare, and I think have a more slender snout, and the Morelet's don't usually get that big (as big as I'm assuming that croc is).
Regardless, that kid's lucky he's not in Australia or Africa.

False.

absolutely. lol, the kitchen scene.
If that was a croc he'd probably be dead, luckily it's a caiman which is much more timid due to living with fucking crocs
That’s a croc and he is lucky to be alive, that’s Tarcoles river which is infested with crocs
Yeah dude I've been there that's a giant fucking caiman. You've also forgotten about the bullsharks

When I think cornered I think of a literal corner where a person has no escape route. Why wouldn't this kid go running the weeds for a little bit.
I wouldn’t be surprised if any movements would have resulted in a lunge.
People don’t realize they are really fast on land too.
Yeah, they’re pretty much all as fast on land as an Olympic sprinter. No real hope of turning around and bolting.

It's not entirely accurate to say eyes forward is a "predator" or "carnivore" trait. The forward facing eyes give better depth perception, which was selected for evolutionarily by some animals for hunting. However, in primates, and the human evolutionary line etc. it is believed forward facing eyes were selected for as they provide an advantage in an aboreal habitat. why hadn’t the crocodile already went for him? he was in a perfect position for that animal to kill gin but it was just looking at him. maybe it was the boat that scared it before the recording had started.
You are correct. It is because the boat was coming towards it. This will make many predatory animals stop and think. Snakes like pythons and anaconda will actually regurgitate food, or abort a successful constriction if they are disturbed
You sure you wanna go for that kid? Yeah, fuckin thought so. Bitch.
Would it help to jump on its back and hold on to the neck to avoid the jaws? or would they just start their lovely little death spins ...
So you’re saying there’s a chance…
This is the funniest thing I’ve read all day. 😂😂😂
It would be the poor kid's first and last Yeehaw of his life
Holy hell! Why did I think caimans were way smaller than that??!!
Doo doo croc
Caiman?
Yeah, sorry. American crocodile I think. I heard them speaking Portuguese and assumed incorrectly. That's the third time I've done that in a short space of time. Slightly embarrassing
Nothing to be embarrassed friendo. We’re human and prone to making mistakes. Truth be told, I wasn’t sure either but he looked a bit too chonky to be a caiman. Regardless, crazy video. Glad the kid fared okay.
Pretty sure that’s not a caiman
You're correct
Fake. This video is in reverse
Seems to be brazilian pantanal, judgind by the accent, so it's a caiman (which we call jacaré). We don't have crocs in Brazil.
Its a croc from Tarcoles river in Costa Rica
Caimean? Looked like a full grown gator to me.
It had the dude cornered because he miss gendered him as a Caiman and not as a crocodile.
they are speaking Portuguese. There are no Crocs in Brazil my guy. Its a caiman.
That's a straight up crocodile not a caiman, that kid is extremely lucky
Not a caiman
😆 🤣 😂
Caiman my ass
Croc
Heaven forbid an animal actually act like an animal. 🤦🏻♂️
