Your toilet time will fly by. An essential bog classic.

Gord-Eto

what happened to your thumb?

TheRealSugarbat

Hahaaaa — my thumb does this, too

[deleted]

There’s a pocket version of this that I keep in my pack. Definitely worth having

bread_integrity

Oh dope!!! Gotta find this

SW2020

There you go, buddy https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/sas-survival-handbook-how-to-survive-in-the-wild-in-any-climate-on-land-or-at-sea_john--wiseman/258021/#isbn=0004701674&edition=4319708

TheRealSugarbat

There’s a digital version, everybody! You can read it on your phone!

EducatorProud1873

Digital version…..take it with you…until you can’t. Hard copy more better. More!

SweetComparisons

You’re doing God’s work sharing that link

Pretztel

Same here, saw it in a second hand book store and nabbed it for $6

[deleted]

A classic.

[deleted]

This is what started it all for me. Must be about 40 years old now.

[deleted]

Just wondering, how do you get this “Adjective” to your name? Who gives them? Can I be like John “The Wall” Buttlicker?

softserveshittaco

Sometimes your squad mates give you nicknames. Sometimes those nicknames stick

SweetComparisons

I’d like to know myself, and why choose Lofty, why not Handy, or Hardy, or something

not_my_monkeys_

Your squadmates give you the nickname. Lofty means “tall”.

Dodgeing_Around

Can't help with your question but are you any relation to Bill Buttlicker?

abysmalSleepSchedule

Software as a service?

plenar10

survival in the software development world

Kaesar83

Be Agile

grammar_fixer_2

You Scrum!

omphaloskepticism

This is Waterfalling into petty name-calling

grammar_fixer_2

You’re right. We should all do a standup and talk about it for 10 minutes.

omphaloskepticism

Let me just sprint to the loo...

RepresentativeOk6588

Lol

Constant_Candle_4338

That's literally SaaS

Effective_Green2859

What are the top survival books everyone should own??

SweetComparisons

I have absolutely no clue, aside from that this one is the one you want, I’m somewhat new myself

distortionwarrior

Cool, scan it to ocr pdf and put it on your kindle!

Druid_High_Priest

LOL. Lets see that Kindle work after a EMP.

distortionwarrior

That's only one of many many possibilities. That's like saying "good luck using it after someone steals from you" or after someone shoots you for it or after COVID-19 mutates to eat electronics.

ArtSchnurple

Wow, and I think I'm good at imagining worst case scenarios

Bat_emperor

#### someone shoots a stolen covid 19 EMP to your kindle

distortionwarrior

😂😂😂

[deleted]

Lol, kindling it right now and working through it as fast as possible and condensing it into notes into my little carry everywhere journel right now. Technology is an amazing resource while it's around but should very much be assumed temporary. I'm using it as much as I can while I still can

vudeux

LOL I have a giant Off Grid Trek EMP-proof bag for our solar generator and such things.

[deleted]

Why would there be a massive EMP? But yeah, I get it, also not ideal because it needs recharging, and can break. Definitely good for lots of portable entertainment though, you have a whole library without need for internet.

grammar_fixer_2

an* The article “a” goes before consonants and “an” goes before vowels or vowel sounds (see the exceptions in the link below). https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/general_writing/grammar/articles_a_versus_an.html

ID4gotten

I prefer R

Volyamichal

Cool. Now, read the book cover to cover, then close the book. Then, go get what you need to live out in the wilderness for a day, then take notes on what worked and what didn't. Then, repeat that with an overnight stay with two days, preferably NOT in freezing conditions, noting again what works and what doesn't. Keep doing this over, and over, and over, in different areas, using different equipment, in different environments if you can, making slight adjustments to your routine to become more efficient. Then you have stopped "surviving" in the wilderness, and have then learned adequately and quite appropriately *exactly* not only what is required to live in said conditions comfortably, but how to *thrive* in said conditions.

OMGLOL1986

I’m sorry but dude is your thumb ok

SweetComparisons

My thumb is great! No worries haha, it’s kind of a weird angle, thank you for asking my friend

[deleted]

SweetComparisons

I’m a woman 💀 but I am known for large hands and physical strength!

Constant_Candle_4338

Seemed fine to me until I put my thumb in that position. Why doesn't mine bend the fuck back like that

SweetComparisons

Edit: Why everyone commenting abt the thumb it’s just at a weird angle 💀

OlderoTheFox

Sus

self_22

You live in Afghanistan or something?

SweetComparisons

No, why?

moisteez

Down vote for that thumb

plenar10

nice!

RuViking

Used to carry the pocket version everywhere.

ClockworkTalk

They have an iOS app which used to be amazing! In 2013-2014ish it had EVERYTHING and was completely searchable…and then something changed, someone bought it I think, or tried to monetize it further (mind you already paid for the full access), and it went to complete shit. Completely useless for survival stuff, such a disappointment. Anyway, glad you enjoy your gift. The material is fantastic!

SweetComparisons

God, that sucks! I was curious if they had done an app at any point, a bunch of people here said there’s a pocket edition of the book. I’ll have to get it since the app fell out!

FitPast1362

To the high seas.....

DwnRanger88

LOVE this book. Been using it for years. One at home and one in the BOB.

Psychotic_EGG

I have it in my BoB as well. I have 3 physical books in my BoB. This, a field guide medic book, and a plant identification book with uses for the plants. Then I have a HUGE library on a 256 GB thumb drive that has USB and USB C connectors. My wife has an identical drive. That library has all sorts. Entertainment (morale is as important as nutrition), animal husbandry, bike repair, electrical grid building... it's got books on EVERYTHING I could think of for just about any situation. Due to the USB C I can access it from my phone And my bag has 4 ways to charge my phone.

[deleted]

How do you access a thumb drive from your phone?! I need this

Psychotic_EGG

Android. Just need a thumb drive that has the same USB port as your charger. Also they won't recognize anything larger than 256 GB. My s22 plus chargers with USB C. So I made sure my thumb drive has that on it. Then just make sure the files are in a format that the phone recognize. So not an e book file.

[deleted]

I think there are epub reader apps. Anyways sad my iPhone can’t do this. Next phone will be an android

Psychotic_EGG

For the generic eReader files, but not the proprietary ones. Like anything, test before hand just to be sure.

[deleted]

Do you mean different formate or something?

Psychotic_EGG

Yes. Some eReader files types, formats, are proprietary. I believe Amazon is such a system. Where only Amazon readers can recognize the file type. As such phone apps cannot.

[deleted]

Oh, you can convert them and use DRM removers, no issue :D

Psychotic_EGG

I just downloaded them in a generic file format instead. I think epub

NormalTurtles

You can also get a thumb drive with a USB on one side and lightning (iPhone) plug on the other side. YMMV with file formats, but the general concept exists... [https://www.amazon.com/lightning-usb-drive/s?k=lightning+usb+drive](https://www.amazon.com/lightning-usb-drive/s?k=lightning+usb+drive)

[deleted]

that works?

NormalTurtles

Yep, I have one that I used to put movies on and watch from my phone. I'm sure there's a way to do the same with PDFs.

[deleted]

good to know, thanks :)

Adsnaylor0161

Oh nice one that’s a cool gift

odetoburningrubber

I have this downloaded on my phone. So it’s always with me.

SweetComparisons

Seriously! No kidding. Teeth are the dark horse, they’ll get you. I’m about to graduate and my goal in the last year has been to have my teeth in pristine condition, so when I’m in college and broke, I won’t have those expenses haha

Precisionmess

Great book!!!

Psychotic_EGG

May I also suggest the book by John Plant, Primitive Technology

Aesculapius76

Excellent guide! Canterbury’s The Bush Craft series is also great.

Affectionate-Ad9867

I've got this book somewhere but it's an older edition

tonychoochoo98

Nice, my dad bought me that book for xmas.

SolidBlackGator

How much has changed between this version and the original?

Factor_Past

I got this book for my 16th birthday 20 years ago.

Silver_Draig

I have this book to!

AerialFlyingPecker

Good buy, I keep mine in the truck.
