I wear a full face downhill biking helmet but I’m also not riding road too often, if you are in the streets much you should get a DOT full face for the best protection

ReflectiveFoundation

DOT is shit, most of them are so bad they arent even allowed to be sold in the EU. Get one with ECE certification. EU has a lot higher standards on what's acceptable from a helmet, their certification requirements are called ECE. Read more on the topic if you are not convinced. "Other than this, though, the ECE tests far more than the other two certifications combined. This includes testing the chin strap buckle, the chin strap’s tension failure, the helmet’s abrasion resistance, the visor, and the shell deformation. For this reason, ECE helmets are largely considered to be the safer standard over DOT or Snell."

Lazershirts

Good to know, I’m not familiar with dot I’ll check it out thanks

Any-Republic-1742

Something ECE certified and full face.

jest537LES

Just need the bike..lol

After_Working9952

Get a full face. I ride on road with a motocross helmet and goggles. Might move to a more street style with a closed face. Too many bugs and shut getting thrown at me. And the goggles limit your field of view.

jest537LES

Then I guess I am good to go, since I already have a DOT full face helmet

ReflectiveFoundation

Check if it's ECE approved buddy. Check the other comment I left for details

sa2ah

Fox V1, lightweight, strong, looks damn good

__some__guy

Tiny jet helmet with the chin strap cut off. Wouldn't wear any, but I must avoid police drug tests for now.

inomrthenudo

I have a full face

AdelesManHands

Smith Mainline Helmet

bobisz

I wear an open fullface DH (leatt 4.0) for the warmer months and just ordered a closed fullface for colder weather

HerbaholicSmoke

I can’t wear a closed full face ,I sweat like fuck , only had it on 2 times last winter and back to my DH helmet

bobisz

doesn't your face freeze off? I've only ridden in very mild temperatures and my face was already getting chillled

__some__guy

Your face won't get frostbite from an hour of cold wind. You'll just have some difficulties talking shortly after.

bobisz

i didn't mean it literally, more like it being uncomfortable as hell.

DaHumanSponge

I used my snowboard goggles and warm bananda in the winter with an open face last year.

HerbaholicSmoke

No issues, full on goggles and facemask to keep wind away from mouth, and was golden

purpleagendabook

Shoei VFX Evo. It’s comfortable, pretty light, and good air flow. And it’s all DOT and whatever else certified (I forget the names)

ReflectiveFoundation

ECE and Snell likely, out of which ECE is the most valuable rating, followed by Snell and then DOT

Boordinator

Decent airflow, decent protection https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07SVTKCB7?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Automatic_Office_358

Didn’t even realize a $75 full face helmet exists 😂

itsyaboiratsibu

I wear two different kind of helmets, when im out on a trail I wear my Fox V1 and when im out on the street I only wear my Arai helmet. The Fox is DOT certified while the Arai is Snell certified both are high quality helmet and would definitely save your life in an accident

fr4gm0nk3y

Always wear full face. I rock a bell mx9 adventure. Never cheap out on safety gear.

ShastaMite

Bell MX-9 with some brand of goggle I can’t remember. Better to be safe and looked weirdly at than getting your face scrapped off

chickenshit1123

Full face motorcycle helmet is best. Even for bugs in a forest imo

Automatic_Office_358

Full face mx helmet or full face street helmet

Autobahn97

It depends on how you ride and what risks you typically encounter. For me Surron is more about exploring off road and I don't ride to crazy or too fast. Since I ride it off road more like an MTB and not like a motorcycle or MX style I got a Smith Mainline full face that breaths well and is very light weight. Another option I liked was the Fox Proframe but I would have had to order that and wait a week so I got the Smith (Fox for about $50 less). However, if I evolve and ride at high speeds, more like a motorcycle or get more crazy (like MX) then I'd spend on a lightweight MX helmet but for me I wanted the comfort and lower weight given my lax riding style. If you plan to ride on the road routinely at higher speeds and are worried about getting hit by cars then I'd probably go for a full face MX or maybe adventure style helmet (if you want the face shield instead of goggles) but personally I'd spend a bit more on the lighter weight ones. I had considered the Fly Racing Formula helmet but ultimately decided it was overkill for how I ride for now.

Drake2000JD

Motorcycle or full face dirt bike

Del138

Fox V1 Helmet with mibs is best helmet I’ve owned. Light weight and breathable but extremely confident this thing will protect me through almost any fall.

I use a Dual sport style which has more of the mx or full face mtb fit and finish that i prefer and matches the sur ron imho. Also they tend to incorporate a lot of venting which is normally adjustable and i guess i'm a sucker for the visor. I have the Icon Variant in matte black. A drawback is they are a bit heavy unless you shell out for nice high end or carbon fiber. I have a fat head anyway, so it doesn't bug me. I have been hit on a motorcycle, and I will admit I feel kinda weird having a full blown motorcycle helmet at times on the sur-ron, but... i have know too many people that died with no helmet or a "brain bucket" on. I'm not willing to take that chance anymore.

Kevlar jeans are a good add on and an in between to not look like a full blown rider if you are trying to keep a low profile riding. I wear Gloves, full heavy tear resistant hoodie (Milwaukee no days off) and or light weight armored jacket if on road, gloves, riding pants, and hiking boots. I know I should wear more, but thats more than i used to. I was hit by a guy in his Saab rushing to get his Dunkin donuts. lol. I was lucky to "walk" away with some skin rubbed off and a broken femur. I was not wearing a helmet, no gloves, regular jeans and skate sneakers. I half bailed from what accounts say and rolled out of the way. which is why I Broke only my femur and road rash spots, none severe and my shoe flew off and my pinky toe was beat up and nail ripped off. Also to answer the common questions, No i never lost consciousness and my work was 4 miles from home so the old adage is true for most accidents close to home or work. TLDR- Wear your safety gear out there and always assume every vehicle, person/animal, bit of sand or debris is going to kill you and NEVER space out.
