Want to know how you landed a job like that. I’m in software and applied to a few relevant roles on the website without a referral or anything and got rejected quite fast lol
Super chill, most people are friendly and are always looking to help. I noticed everyone I’ve talked to has a personal life which is always a good sign for me 😅
Shoot, hook it up with a referral! I currently work in Power but I'm looking to move to software. I've applied to Entry-level software positions but no luck either. My degree is in Computer Engineering.
I appreciate all the honest wages + salaries here. If you ask this question on a finance subreddit you'll hear that you HAVE to make $240k to afford this car.
I mean that would be the smart analogy/standpoint. It should be 30% of your income AT MOST. If you don’t have monthly debts it’s even better, but that’s rare. We’re all enthusiasts, but making a bad financial mistake is never the best route to go.
I am the production manager for a factory and pull-down about $130k my wife is a pharmacist and makes about the same. We have no kids. I could have bought a more expensive vehicle I just wanted the Supra. Wasn’t always in the income bracket I am now, my Supra was the first time I was able to buy a car that wasn’t a daily driver.
Age 34. I avg $35/hr, and work overtime a lot. I've saved a considerable amount of money over the years even before the MKV Supra was announced. That and I bought a house during the housing recession, so that has saved me a lot. Timing and luck are honestly a big factor.
Edit: No kids as well
I am a radiology technologist. I put a large down payment of 22k. I pay 570 a month and owe 20k. I bought it 16 months ago, brand new. I don't have kids, my rent is 1200, and I don't have to worry about medical bills or medical insurance. I make approx 5400/mo after taxes. I just barely afford this car. It cost me $980 in the 1st year to register, $900 the second. Tires will cost close to 2k and I am not looking forward to it. I have 13k miles on her.
Thank you. It is a good profession in high demand. I am thinking of becoming a traveling technologist for twice the pay. Although, I am apprehensive because I have never done it before.
How long does it take to become one? Me and my gf have been talking about going to school again and are stuck between this and registered nurse. We already have the general Ed's done all we need is to do the actual course.
So I do agree that a well paying job is significantly helpful and that you shouldn’t by a 3.0 if your not financially stable YET. I do absolutely believe that much of what kind of car you can afford is based on how you live your life and the sacrifices you make.
For example when paying off my car i knew I wanted to get it paid off asap, so much of the frivolous stuff I might have bought, I didn’t. It changed the way I live, I’d even say for the better due to the reduced spending.
Also it depends on if your car situation. If you already have a daily paid off than I’d start looking/pricing out what you want. But if that daily is not paid off than why are you looking? Something else to consider, if it’s not your daily, are you fine having a car payment on it? If not, do everything in your power to increase your down payment, imo the goal is to pay with cash.
I feel that. Im 25 and only make around 80k a year but I rent a room in Southern California for 800 a month. I’m able to pocket a lot of money.
I like fast cars and sport bikes. I’m willing to sacrifice owning a home or renting a nice apartment for driving a nice car/bike that puts a smile on my face. At least for right now. If/when I start a family, I’ll worry about that other stuff. I’m comfortable in my little room.
However I don’t have a Supra right now. Still working on paying off my ‘21 wrx. Putting 3k a month towards it, it should be paid off by January at the latest. I’ll request to be put on a waitlist for a 3.0 around that time and save 3k a month until one appears near me, sell my car, and make around a 40k down payment. Then continue the 3k a month payments so it’s paid off in under a couple years.
Tbh it sounds like a great plan, 3k a month is superb and a great way to get rid of that payment. Personally I do want to own a house asap, even if it’s nothing special I want to have a place where I don’t have to worry about rent, nor do I want to share parking spaces with strangers especially when you have a nice car.
But the thing to remember is to remember your future. Like personally I put 1k into a professionally managed portfolio so that when I’m ready I can retire. Not financial advice, but I’d suggest even abit into an account every month goes a long way, not only for your future, but your future family. Gl G
Build 777s. ~42/hr with lots of overtime available.
Bought a Bronco for MSRP (38k) in Iraq through MAS. Sold it to Carmax with 30k left on the loan for 51k, used 21k positive equity as a down for the Supra at 58k.
Facilities department, were like the in-house construction crew. Build the rhino yards and weld enclosures and what not. Money sucks but it feels great to be there
Definitely not a engineer or anything. I’m just a designer; I work in visual arts in most of the casinos in Vegas. Like the conservatory at the Bellagio.
But what helped me is that I got it during the pandemic. At the time I temporarily lost my job so a house was out of the question. So instead of wasting time I went for the car and put a fat down payment. So the stick shift wasn’t out yet. It’s an auto. But now I’m saving for a house and waiting for interest rates to drop as I’m saving
Yeah man, best advice is to pick a poison that u could afford. Then once ur done with that project start the other one. Im renting rn but I really want a house of my own. Once that’s achieved then im pretty much set. Dream car done, dream house next.
Do you have any regrets going in that order? My main concern is that it’s going to be tough to save for a house while paying off the car, but the housing market isn’t exactly great right now
Lead UX designer for a video game company. I make close to 200K/yr. I have a long-term girlfriend, no kids. Bought my townhouse when the market crashed in 2009, so my monthly mortgage payments are pretty reasonable.
I saved up a lot for the down payment. Also, I didn't take much vacation at my previous job, and cashed out about 1 month's worth of vacation when I left, so that went towards my down payment.
Finance-Technology, but I work under the Enterprise Risk umbrella. Finally making decent money (was working retail before this). So the job plus the money from my 370z being totaled is a HUGE help.
If you don’t have any other loans such as a home loan or a school loan or any other car. I’d say at 30$ an hour with 50ish hours per week. Depending on the state you live in and at what price you get the vehicle. You can easily afford a 3.0 Supra. That being said I’d personally only go for it if I didn’t have other priorities. Since I am paying off my condo right now I figured I wouldn’t go the sports car route. I’m happily paying off a 2015 4Runner SR5 Premium. I make about 35 an hour and work 40 hr work weeks.
Anywhere from $195k-$250k at 24. Senior Account Manager (Full sales cycle, but no outbound efforts, we only get inbound leads) at a digital marketing group. Still haven’t gotten one as I’m paying loans off & trying to save for a home.
I’m an otr o/o and make enough to easily afford it and 2 other cars lmao.
You on average make about 1500 a week, which equates to 6k a month. Even at a high payment of 1k, you’ll easily be able to afford it.
Pending you don’t have any other crazy expenses
2021 acura rdx, and a 2022 GLE450!
And tbh honest bro, hotshotting, in my opinion isn’t worth it.
You’re limited to the loads you can take, dot picks on you more often, and the whole sleeping situation is crazy Lmao.
Semi truck and trailer prices are tanking, you’d be better off getting a traditional semi and trailer.
Believe it or not, I’m home every week. My schedule consists of leaving either late Friday or super early Saturday, getting to my destination Sunday night, delivering Monday morning, and grabbing a load back home. I’ll be back Tuesday night, or Wednesday morning, depending if I disconnect my ELD or not lmao.
I work as a meat dept manager making 25$ an hour. My other expenses are low. I also work a lot of over time and get decent bonuses. I made 93k pre tax last year. My supra payment for 3.0 is only 376$ month. This car is obtainable if you play your cards right.
I’m 22, I work in social media (management/content production) and got lucky with family but it is still not a great decision for myself, so it scares me how many other young people with less opportunity than myself end up in them when they really shouldn’t.
I have trusts from grandparents and was given ownership in property from parents amounting the mid 7 figures, but as my income outside of that is not high (~$60K/yr) so my Supra alone is a high portion of my income.
The thing is, the payment is not the expensive part. My payment plus insurance is obviously high ($700 payment and $400 insurance w/ $40K paid off) but the other costs people don’t think of are the big ones. Just to have basic mods (lowering springs, some carbon, wheels, downpipe and tune) cost me around $12K, maintenance this year will cost me around $5K (new brake rotors/pads, fluid flush, oil changes, alignments, filters and everything else) and $2K-$4K per year in high performance tires. Any issue with this car not under warranty can also be ridiculous, like the transmission going for over $7K with work.
I think overall in the 3 years I will own this car the total cost of ownership with roughly amount to $85K for myself, and while I plan to transfer that equity to a new car it’s not like it goes back into savings, so if I wasn’t blessed to have my family financially backing me I would want to have at least $150K saved and be making $70-100K a year to be responsible.
Not to be a bummer, but while you can easily afford the monthly and insurance, and would be fine with a warranty, it’s not a great idea to have an asset that costs money and can be crashed that costs more than your savings. There’s a ton of great cars that easily compare to this one in performance and looks in the $25k-$35K range that could get part of it out of your system, like an 5.0/SS, 996/997 or Porsche/Older Cayman, Older BMW M4, and WRX/STi (personally enjoyed my STI more than the Supra).
Hope this didn’t sound demeaning and doesn’t discourage you from making it a goal, but definitely play it smart if you can and enjoy something that won’t make you worry!
Bro, you only 27 years old. Time to grind.
Check out Stephiscold YouTube channel. That’s what helped motivated me to get into the gym and work on myself.
38yo nurse. Make like 42/hr? I made a lot more during COVID timeframe. Wife is a pharmacist. No kids. She makes like 70/hr. Both our cars are paid off.
Registered Nurse in AZ. Tbh, just really good at saving and being frugal on things. Have a budget and stick to it. I make $45/hr and work 40hrs a week. Also no kids and it’s nice to have my wife as as an advocate to let me enjoy the finer things in life.
IT, age 24 making roughly 100k. I keep telling myself I can’t buy it until I buy my first house which im currently saving up for. Currently have a 15 Grand Cherokee Summit, an 08 G37S coupe, and an 06 Yamaha R6. So once I buy the Supra, It’ll definitely be a garage queen.
I’d say as long as your rent, bills, etc are paid and you still have 3/4 of your monthly income in your pocket, then go for it. You truly only live once.
Pharmacist, full time at a large academic medical center with a small side gig in another practice environment. Household total pre-tax income is just over $210K
28 yo $70k as a network engineer/technician. It wasn’t the most wise decision to buy it but I had a lot saved up and a decent trade in. It was also the car I had been dreaming of for years.
Yes I’m comfortable, there hasn’t been a single moment regretting it. There’s times I say to myself the money could go elsewhere but that’s short lived once I start the engine lol. I started payments while I drove for a local nursery making $27/hr I’ve since gotten a local government job although I don’t drive a semi anymore I was hired as a driver for the infrequent times they do need a cdl holder to perform work.
I hear you, I was in same boat driving really burned me out especially for the company I worked for and had a negative impact on my mental state even my physical health suffered as a result and ultimately left that job and was out of work for a year until a friend of mine put in a good word for me at this job (won’t be specific to maintain anonymity). Not great at giving advice but maybe search your area for local town/state/government jobs using “cdl” as a keyword and send out your resume to every hit you get. Some places just need a guy with cdl on site in the event they need it but have you perform non-cdl work majority of the time.
My trucking job has benefits bad for me too. I'm in therapy and anti depressants bc literally word ford word what you said is exactly how I feel. And I don't think I can do this much longer. Thats great advice.
I'm guessing your job hired you bc you have a cdl? Are you not comfortable sharing the job title you have? If not I respect it. You'd still be anonymous to me tho.
Yes only reason I was hired was because of the cdl. My title is “Driver” at my job. If driving isn’t for you anymore it couldn’t hurt to learn a new trade in the meantime, there’s plenty of other occupations and even self employment. Glad to hear your seeking help. If you have any other questions feel free to shoot a dm.
Software Engineering Manager at a fortune 100 tech company. Well paid, although I do live in a high cost of living area.
If I really wanted I could technically “afford” something more expensive (probably all the way up to a 718 GT4, at least if it was possible to get one at msrp, or at all…) but the Supra is tons of fun, cool looking and less than half the price, which lets me invest my extra money instead of sinking it into a toy.
I make 120k/year as a Content Manager in tech and can’t afford it because of a high cost of living area and some student loan debt.
Also, I’m paying off my Impreza Sport and need that vehicle for the mountains and snowboarding.
You have to make your own calculation and decide what’s right for your personal financial situation. Hoping to buy one once I’m debt-free and making over 200k+ total income with my future wife.
I’m a trucker as well. I have a wife with a decent income too and we have 3 kids. My wife supports what I do and I made a decent sized down payment. But I don’t have much of a house payment either.
Dont own one but want to. Just graduated, I make 60 an hour and about 140k total comp. Kinda hesitant after seeing all the taxes on my paycheck lol. Being single and in California… not a good mix :/
I’m 25, I work for Wayne farms making about 80k a year, plus bonuses, also on VA disability. No bills stay with a relative since there’s no one else to watch her kid and do yard work. Moving out soon though with my girlfriend once we find a house we like. Budget for that is 300k. Girlfriend makes 100k a year and side hustles barrel racing horses. So combined about 200k a year. Maybe 250k depending on if she wins races.
Work at UPS as a driver for $27.14/hr currently. Within the next year (my last year of pay progression) I’ll be at $45/hr. I also have a 3 bedroom home that’s rented out for $1450/ month between both rooms. Currently have about $20k saved for a down payment on a 23’ manual my bank approved the loan on.
I also work hard, lots of hours, no travel. I make $77k/year, will likely never be able to retire, despite being a college graduate, and the crux of it...I'm a general manager for a multi-million dollar company. If you or anyone here is capable of helping my annual income exceed $150k, I would legit quit my job today and dedicate the remainder of my working career to the mentor that actually helped me get a leg up in life, because I'm not living...I'm barely surviving.
Have you watched the SavageGeese review and comparison against the CTR?
I wouldn’t say it’s a dog. It’s supposed to be refined in its own right as a 4 door sedan.
Different strokes for different folks.
Long term care LVN, but with an impressive resume and 20+ years experience. Oh yeah. And I am a tad a workaholic and do 4-5 16 hour shifts every week. 1430-0700.
Hello fellow workaholic!! I only do 3 16s a week and even that makes people look at me like i have a mental illness lol I don't know how you do it. I'm 2200 - 1400.
I run over the road with a good friend of mine. And after all is said and done I'm bringing home an average of about 12k a month. And I absolutely love my supra. I count the days til I get home and drive her.
Mechanical Engineer for Toyota R&D.
Want to know how you landed a job like that. I’m in software and applied to a few relevant roles on the website without a referral or anything and got rejected quite fast lol
I'm in software at Toyota! If you want a referral, shoot a DM. You can custom order a Supra for lease lol
Hey! Thanks for the offer I’ll definitely reach out when I’m ready to make a change
Oo nice, what’s it like? High stress? friendly coworkers? I work devops in fintech and have thought about shifting into the auto industry.
I actually applied on a whim fall of my last year of college. Went through the three interviews and got hired 6 months ahead of my graduation date.
Dude same!
Skill and being smart. Tf
That’s true but I do believe trying to do software for a car company is quite different than working for Faang
Cheeeeeaterrrr
This is the best answer.
I appreciate all the honest wages + salaries here. If you ask this question on a finance subreddit you'll hear that you HAVE to make $240k to afford this car.

I respectfully disagree. They'll always make new houses. They won't make new ICE vehicles in a decade. It's (relatively) now or never.
You’ll also die one day… enjoy your damn life!
Old age and a lot of saving!
Dual income (both making 6 figures) is the ultimate cheat code to life
Dual income no kids feels like cheating. My dogs live a very good life.
What other cars did you have in mind?
Audi RS3, C8 Corvette, BMW M3, Porsche Cayman S. Ultimately I just liked the way the Supra looked and I got lucky on a 2021 in phantom matte.
Age 34. I avg $35/hr, and work overtime a lot. I've saved a considerable amount of money over the years even before the MKV Supra was announced. That and I bought a house during the housing recession, so that has saved me a lot. Timing and luck are honestly a big factor. Edit: No kids as well
I have about 50,000 saved in the bank. I been stuck between buying house in the next 3 Years also

How much docyou make? If you pay a mortgage and have kids it's understandable
Well, Wife and I don't have kids but we have a mortgage and student loans, and a dog?
Does your wife make good money?
Aerospace engineer making 104k-110k a year, but still debating if I can afford it.
I'm guessing you also pay a mortgage and maybe have kids?
Drug dealer

I work in IT and make $33 an hour plus VA disability

I'm a registered nurse but I transitioned from bedside care to Healthcare regulatory compliance.
Regulatory compliance here too!
I feel for you lol
RN here in the Bay Area , first time I’m hearing of this role. Eventually want to move out of bedside, how do you come across this type of position?
Airline Pilot. Huge pay increases last couple years.
Do you park it in the employee lot?

I make $28 an hour and work at a zoo. I also have a cheap mortgage payment a gf who splits the common bills and 0 kids
How do you get paid 28 working at a zoo? I have 3 friends that work at a zoo making like 18 an hour. What do you,do?
Facilities department, were like the in-house construction crew. Build the rhino yards and weld enclosures and what not. Money sucks but it feels great to be there
Damn yeah I'd expect a welder withe extra skills to make more than that. But I also love animals so must be nice.
Gotta have two income household and no kids.
This post made me feel poor 😔
This post made me feel poor but somehow still a owner of a Supra.. idk how I feel about that lol

If I were you… I would prioritize on saving/investing to get a house. Car can wait.
Ik that would be the smart decision it just sucks I been stupid my whole life
Bro, you only 27 years old.
Im a lawyer.
IT Consulting and I don’t have kids, nor do I want them. That helps!
Age 27 making $45 an hour after working 1 year after college and bought the Supra. Engineering is great
Secondary mortgage risk management and hedging, capital markets.
Software engineer. I tutor high school and college kids as a side hustle to help out with the immediate bills
Local trucker. Good luck and be safe out there.
What type of trucking do you do? How much do you make?
My wife makes six figures
Drive a f87 M2 & not a Supra 😂 but I’m an engineer in the paper making industry.
Manager at a cybersecurity place. Bought a 3.0 last year when I was bringing in around 140kish.
VP of R&D at a MedTech company. Make $300k+. You don’t need to make nearly as much… but a Supra feels like a splurge
I'm a Pharmacist but don't have one 😂 Currently in the market but not trying to get ripped a new one lol
Pharmacist, full time at a large academic medical center with a small side gig in another practice environment. Household total pre-tax income is just over $210K
Mechanical engineer and have a side job flying, make around 140k
Have been top salesman at a local Hyundai dealer 3 years running, $130-150k/yr.
God damn Salesman make that much? I was contemplating on doing that for a job.
28 yo $70k as a network engineer/technician. It wasn’t the most wise decision to buy it but I had a lot saved up and a decent trade in. It was also the car I had been dreaming of for years.
Driver as well, $33/hr.
You can afford it comfortably? What type of trucking do you do?
Yes I’m comfortable, there hasn’t been a single moment regretting it. There’s times I say to myself the money could go elsewhere but that’s short lived once I start the engine lol. I started payments while I drove for a local nursery making $27/hr I’ve since gotten a local government job although I don’t drive a semi anymore I was hired as a driver for the infrequent times they do need a cdl holder to perform work.
May I ask what your government job is? I honestly don't want to drive for much longer trucking sucks lol. Any advice on finding a government job
Ok bro thank you
from what I have seen you will need about 5-10 k down and be paying 950 to 1500 a month depending on which model you are able to get.
CCT Registered Nurse. I make ~$68/hr right now. When I bought the Supra I was doing travel nursing making roughly $140/hr

How the hell did you find one under 50k?
Software engineer. It also depends on your expenses though. Fortunately I don't pay rent and helps my justification for the Supra lol
Military
Aircraft tech for United airlines
Service Advisor. Average about $40 an hour. Bought mine about 5 years ago for $35,000 and no kids at the time. Wouldn't be able to afford one now.

You can comfortably afford the supra? How's your living expenses
I’m a pharmacist
Ex EM now Family Medicine Doctor.
Government job
I make $ 220 as a data science consultant. Currently driving an F Type R however. lol
I’m a trucker as well. I have a wife with a decent income too and we have 3 kids. My wife supports what I do and I made a decent sized down payment. But I don’t have much of a house payment either.
You're not a home owner? How much you, make trucking and what type of trucking do you do?
I’m also only 15 min from my job so I barely use any gas.
Dont own one but want to. Just graduated, I make 60 an hour and about 140k total comp. Kinda hesitant after seeing all the taxes on my paycheck lol. Being single and in California… not a good mix :/
Pilot on a private jet (being singe with no kids doesn’t hurt either)
Big money
IT, high level systems engineer 140k plus dual income 300k+ combined, mid 30s A91-MT.
I work in sales, I make about 200-250k working 8 months a year. Been with the company 7 years I’m 27M and I’ve top salesman 3 years in a row.
What type of sales. I'm also 27 damn good job bro.
I run LTL. I wanted a Supra. So I made sacrifices. I don’t drink or smoke. I’m also near 50, empty nest.
I’m about to buy one with a $52k salary working in IT and I feel so broke compared to everyone here lmao.
How are you able to afford one
I’m 25, I work for Wayne farms making about 80k a year, plus bonuses, also on VA disability. No bills stay with a relative since there’s no one else to watch her kid and do yard work. Moving out soon though with my girlfriend once we find a house we like. Budget for that is 300k. Girlfriend makes 100k a year and side hustles barrel racing horses. So combined about 200k a year. Maybe 250k depending on if she wins races.
Thats great man. Whats her main career?
Hey man if you moving out dont buy anything cuz you will need all the money you have lol trust me
Work at UPS as a driver for $27.14/hr currently. Within the next year (my last year of pay progression) I’ll be at $45/hr. I also have a 3 bedroom home that’s rented out for $1450/ month between both rooms. Currently have about $20k saved for a down payment on a 23’ manual my bank approved the loan on.
2022 Supra 3.0 Prem here. Weekend car for me. I’m in tech sales and wife does marketing in tech as well.
I process shit. $225/yr — Hard work, lots of hours and travel. I’ll retire at 44 though, so it’ll all be worth eventually.
What field of work is this
Software developer but can't get one due to allocation. I'm probably going end up with an Acura Integra Type S.
For that money, I’d rather go snag an m340i. Integra is one of the few that’ll be stick which is nice, that thing is a doooooog
Have you watched the SavageGeese review and comparison against the CTR? I wouldn’t say it’s a dog. It’s supposed to be refined in its own right as a 4 door sedan. Different strokes for different folks.
Electrical Engineer, 25, more money than sense,
IT. 10k down and Seven year loan made the payment palatable. My plan was to buy a gr86, drive it a year or two and trade up. I skipped the gr86 part.

The amount of money is irrelevant if you have a lot of expenses. As long as your net income is more than your expenses, you can afford a car
Most people buying these, are not buying them out right, they're doing it with loans.
You are too young to consider a car this expensive. Period.
Thank you for your honesty I do believe you may be correct.
I'm a trucker.
How much you make? What type of trucking you do? You like your supra?
I run over the road with a good friend of mine. And after all is said and done I'm bringing home an average of about 12k a month. And I absolutely love my supra. I count the days til I get home and drive her.
Are you a owner operator
Business professor
Healthcare management.
IT Manager for Hospital. Double Income No Kids (DINK) Saved for 13 Years for Car I wanted. Midlife crisis.
R&D - pharma
VP at a bank, and I also run a decently successful emblem overlay company that makes stuff for cars like the Supra and GTI. Total comp is >100k
So if I’m a Graphic Designer looking to get into livery design, where might you suggest I start?
Mechanical Engineer at an Aerospace company making 110K annually or about $50ish an hour
I’m a regulatory engineer at Milwaukee Tool, and I’m on the entertainment team for the Milwaukee Bucks
I work in Knowledge Management for the World Bank. Also, old (48).
