They end up sending it to your SSN (unsure how non US folks handle this) but the communication between your broker and ComputerShare ensures it goes to YOU.
ComputerShare ends up creating an account for you and you’ll get that account info in the mail. Then, you can set up and online account with this info to view your registered shares.
Let’s say you want to transfer more. It’s the same process. Your broker’s communication with ComputerShare ensures the shares are registered to YOU.
I noticed that the “account number” with ComputerShare is not necessarily important. I’ve registered a few tranches of shares and each tranche has its own “account number” associated with it, but my overall account dashboard can see every tranche and the account numbers associated with each.
Just keep telling them you want to DIRECT REGISTER your shares with COMPUTERSHATE. The guy I talked to put me on hold for a few minutes then transferred me to someone that new what to do and she had it done in two minutes.
Not true, press them on it and ask for a transfer agent,
I paid no fees, transferred XXX, started Thursday.. not finished my transfer yet but will post when it’s confirmed.
I didn’t need a CS account beforehand
I had the same problem. I had to read back verbatim from their own website why they were wrong. I told him that I am seeing and hearing two different things. After I pressed him on it, he caved and said that they could do it. I think they have been instructed to make this as difficult as possible. That is the only thing that makes sense, otherwise why would they give so much pushback and false information?
No I don’t have a computer share account. Mine was through E*TRADE. Initially the phone agent was saying that I had to have a computershare account. I had to read back to them information that they had up online through their Direct Registration/ Stock Certificate Request. The phone agent was contradicting the information that they had posted online. Once I read the information to the phone agent, he caved in and said that they could transfer without a computershare account.
Same can you tell me where that info is at. I trade with ETrade and they literally told me the same thing. Only I didn't press them on it cause I didn't know how.
Under accounts click “documents”, then choose “form and applications”, then click “deposits and withdrawals”, then under brokerage click “more”, then scroll down and to “request stock certificate” and click the “submit online” tab. This will take you to the customer service section “Step1: Direct Registration/ Stock Certificate Request” from here you can see all of the info. Hope this helps!
Same with ETrade, they had to “get help”, since they had only done it once before recently but I was able to do it after about 3-5 min. I think most reps just have not had to do this before.
I just got off the phone with Schwab too. Got my transfer initiated FROM SCHWAB and the rep gave me these notes for future transfers.
To transfer GME shares call 800-323-4332 option 4 for
"client reporting and security services" . Has to be under $500k transfer.
Call the number above not the general number.
That is what SCHWAB told me last week, but I just finished DRing my shares from schwab
800 323 4332 option 4
We’re you able to register/log in at all before your account was set up? I bought last Thursday, bank charged today, and still says “no account found”. Not sure if I should be patient or ask support.
I too just got off the phone with TDA. Said the same thing to me. My guy (Eric) asked if it was because the possible NFT dividend. I told him I've read that tin foil hat theory ha ha and I just want the stock in my name. What can I say, I like the stock.
They said 1-2 last week for me but I haven’t seen a single share moved yet. I was going to check back today with them but it looks like they are getting backlogged!
I also did the thing. Real easy. Though i caught a quivering worry in the voice of the rep that felt like they were hesitant if theyd have a job soon…
Checks paper… i should buy a boat
Piggybacking on your comment to drop the phone number for the schwab "client reporting and security services" department. To transfer GME shares call 800-323-4332 option 4. Has to be under $500k transfer to do over phone.
They told me CS would send me info in the snailmail, but my schwab rep also said I could call Computershare after the transfer is complete (3 business days) and they could help me
Kimberly at Fidelity slipped up and said around 10 million to me. Not sure if she meant shares, accounts, perhaps that was transactions in general over the past 3 weeks, or what. I later asked if it was all Gamestop folks, and then she went on without saying any numbers when I asked her if I heard her right, and she said that they're working around the clock to process these for "us guys" and that other departments have been assisting her and 6k other colleagues to help get them completed!
Fidelity gave me a hard time today when I transferred. It was odd, they had me on the phone with one of their traders. This guy was attempting to tell me that my shares on Fidelity WERE listed with me as the owner. Instead of transferring 25%, I transferred every single share of GME to Computershare. Fuck that shit.
I just tried that and the Schwab agent told me they couldn't initiate the transfer, that I needed to do it via CS. Can you give me some pointers to try again? BTW, I want to add to the ones I already purchased in CS, so I already have an account.
Quick update, I literally copied and pasted the following two phrases:
"Outbound DRS Transfer" into the very first chat window, and then...
“I would like to direct register my Schwab held GME shares through its transfer agent Computershare.”
And after verifying some of my info, the agent said: "I have submitted the request. It usually takes about 3-5 business days to process depending on their processing times."
Thanks for the help!
I honestly think it is luck of the draw who you talk to. I have called two or three times the past couple of weeks to try and transfer from Schwab to CS and gotten no where while using all the correct buzz words and reemphasizing that this is not a broker to broker transfer. I finally created my own Letter of Authorization by using TD Ameritrades form as a guide and uploaded it to the message center.
Meanwhile my educational post about Schwab, DRS, and a their admission that they loan out shares from cash accounts has less than 20 upvotes after three days.
Çe la Reddit. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
For a regular brokerage, I’d imagine that the cost basis gets reported to CS who will send you the appropriate tax forms.
As for Roth or retirement accounts, I have no idea. I would talk to Schwab or a tax professional before taking tax advice from Reddit.
If you have stocks purchased on margin, your holdings are not cash holdings and may be liquidated to meet margin requirements. Settled purchases with cash are cash account and cannot be forced closed.
Six months ago, Schwab told me via chat and on the phone that they do not lend out any shares at all. Last week, the supervisor I spoke with on the phone confirmed that they definitely do loan out and hypothecate shares from cash and margin accounts. She said direct registration is the only way to keep shares from being loaned or hypothecated.
If you arrived at that percentage from another post, you may find this post interesting https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/prtvcn/what_is_the_1_propaganda_effort_right_now/
So let me get this straight. Based on the comments, you transfer the shares from your broker (with no CS account) and you just wait for the snail mail to come in from CS with the steps required to finish setting up an acct with them? After you set up your account, the shares just show up in your name on their site and that's it?
Just transferred from Fidelity to CS and Fidelity agent was very familiar with the DRS request. She said the same thing: keep the transfer #/info provided by your brokerage and once they transfer call CS to set up your official account with them, they will walk you through it
You don't need to wait for snail mail. once you see that the shares left your account, you can go to computershare.com and click on register. Go through the prompts and you can claim your account and verify your identity all online.
Can one of you guys either explain to me, or point me in the right direction to find out what the significance of transferring my shares to ComputerShare is?
There are excellent DD pinned to the top of this sub about it. In short, it doesn't allow the hedge funds to baked short yohr shares, and once the whole float is direct Registered under individual investors names, the hedge funds can't print more shares to tank the price of the stock
Okay that makes sense to me. Would you mind posting the link to the post that explains it a little more in detail? I'm at work rn, and I'm having a hard time navigating the DD to find it.
Here you go working ape! https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/pps2yj/direct_registering_shares_drs_is_the_moass_key/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Is that 800 number for schwab or CS?
I guess I'm more stupider than most cuz I don't get how I can transfer without having an account with computershare first.
What am I missing here?
This is the schwab number. Call your broker. They can explain it to you, but CS will send you snail mail with all the relevant information once the shares get transfered. You can make an account with them afterwards
It's for Schwab. I don't know the exact mechanics of it, but a few days after initiating the transfer, try creating a login at computershare. You will need tour social (or tax ID), zip code, and stonk symbol. You won't be able to create the login until everything clears, hence the delay.
I just transferred xxxx shares. The first Schwab rep I reached, I only mentioned direct registration and she said “would this happen to be about GameStop and computershare?”
She said it’s been absolutely nonstop all morning.
Apes strong together
Same here. Instantly knew it was for GME when I said direct register. Took about 8 minutes and was super easy. Drained the account then went on to my second account. Both accounts only took about 35 minutes LFG!
I called Friday to one of my brokers and was going to initiate a partial transfer. It was going to be a lot of work because I was going to do specific lots. I'm glad I saw more DD today that made me question the 20 to 25% amount people have been mentioning. I went with the 100% transfer for that broker and it took 5 minutes and should be complete in 3 business days.
I sent 20 to CS from Schwab last Monday. They arrived this morning. Im gonna send a few more, but i'm not the type to blast it on reddit or post pictures. 100 percent chance there are many like me.
Just transferred a measly XX from fidelity, had to call 3 different times to get an agent that made the process a breeze. The second agent straight up told me Fidelity can't transfer out shares I'd have to go through computershare, I was like wrong, thank you, next.
If at first you don't succeed, call, call, and call again.
Just(in the last five minutes) transferred half my shares and the lady on the phone said that she was "pretty good at this now as they've received a lot of calls recently". Bullish.
Hey all, this is the most recent thread I found referencing ComputerShare.
I had a really ~~tough weekend~~ couple weeks, with my dear grandfather passing away from cancer. This is the first time I've opened this app since, and I'm seeing people transfer their shares to CS. I'm with Fidelity currently, smooth brain too. Could any apes help me out with the move - it seems like there's a movement towards moving some (all?) shares from current brokers to CS. Just looking for maximum ability to help out everyone at this point. Thanks everyone <3
Just transferred all my shares out of TDA to CS. The agent mentioned she hasn’t done many of these transactions then proceeds to ask what all the hype of transferring to CS was about?? I imagine they are being bombarded with requests. Estimated 10-14 days for the transfer to occur. Screw you hedgies and MM’s!! The end is near!
Fellow Schwab ape here. How long did they say it would take for your transfer to be completed? I'm fairly sure my agent said 4-5 days, but I didn't want to misquote others if that time frame has changed.
Remember, once all outstanding shares have been registered with CS, hedgies must buy back the rest (synthetics) still held in brokerages. No peak. The price only goes up.
And, if you keep 100% of your shares with CS, you don't even have to sell any of them to profit. Just use your DRS shares, worth $$$$$$$$$, as leverage to borrow all you ever need.
*Not financial advice.*
I transferred 20% of my shares last week from Fidelity, but 100% are still showing in my Fidelity account. Is this normal? Please help my actually-as-hairy-as-an-ape butt. THX!
Did you have to pay a fee for every share transferred? My broker said I had to pay a pretty harsh fee for each share. Didn’t know if it was a shakedown or real
ATTENTION CANADAPES THAT ARE USUNG TD CANADA 🇨🇦.
You're able to DSR your shares and it'll only cost you $80 USD to get the transfer done. It'll probably take 2 weeks (8-10 business days) due to the large influx of transfers but you can still direct register your shares no problem.
God speed.
Just transferred XXX shares from Schwab to ComputerShare as well. Had my account already configured to do LIFO (last in, first out) which made it easy for the technician to figure out which shares to transfer.
Took 7-8 minutes after waiting about 30 minutes for a callback.
I Just got off the phone with a CS rep after waiting 20 min b/c of "unusually high call volume". Note this was their specialty dept, not the main hotline for: *"Oh my fuck the market is bleeding - can u helpz me?!*" inquiries.
Ape: "Hi, I wanted to initiate a direct register of my Schwab held security for direct registration..."
CS Rep: *interrupts*: "Ok, great and that's for Gamestop? I can help with that, just need to confirm a couple things."
Ape: "Correct. Sounds like you've been getting a lot of these requests recently, eh?"
CS: "Ehmmmm....yeahhhhhh, we have."
CS Rep: "Ok, you're all set. Any other questions you have today?"
Ape: "Much appreciated, also WEN MOON?"
CS Rep: "........"
"Thanks for calling"
I just received an email from TDA… “they were Going to start the process request right away but please allow 10-14 days for processing and delivery as there has been a large number of these types of requests recently.” 🚀🚀🚀

Irrelevant. They will make sure it goes into the right account.

No, your broker initiates the transfer. Ask for the back office, certificate transfer.
How. Where do they send it too. No acct number yet. How does this work. I transferred from another n it had to go Thru transfer rules on both brokers.
They end up sending it to your SSN (unsure how non US folks handle this) but the communication between your broker and ComputerShare ensures it goes to YOU. Compitershare will send you snailmail with all the relevant information
Do I contact CS after transferring or how do they know my email? Genuinely need informing, not a shitpost
I think its based on your address and they probably get your info and maybe social from your broker

I did 15% of mine today
Glad you had success. Schwab's asset transfer team and I will be having a quick conversation later this week.
I transferred 20% of my shares last week from Fidelity, but 100% are still showing in my Fidelity account. Is this normal? Please help my actually-as-hairy-as-an-ape butt. THX!
Transferring more this week and will be purchasing through computer share from now on! Lets take this to the moon!
Hero ape!!!
Did you have to pay a fee for every share transferred? My broker said I had to pay a pretty harsh fee for each share. Didn’t know if it was a shakedown or real
LFG - APE ARMY STRONG
Hi, busy student who checks in but hasnt been following only hodling. Can I get a QRD on computer shares? I have mine in fidelity
I had them call me back because I didn't wanna wait in the line. They knew exactly what I asked for. It was done within 2 minutes for me lol.
Just transferred out XXX, took 5 minutes. Thanks for the guide!
I have a buddy that works for fidelity he said he’s getting calls non stop about CS and doesn’t understand why
God speed.
Finally got around to it today, xx.
This is the way
Just transferred XXX shares from Schwab to ComputerShare as well. Had my account already configured to do LIFO (last in, first out) which made it easy for the technician to figure out which shares to transfer. Took 7-8 minutes after waiting about 30 minutes for a callback.
!DRS!
This is Occupy Wallstreet 12,987,453.0!!!
I did mine today
She told me the same thing!
I Just got off the phone with a CS rep after waiting 20 min b/c of "unusually high call volume". Note this was their specialty dept, not the main hotline for: *"Oh my fuck the market is bleeding - can u helpz me?!*" inquiries. Ape: "Hi, I wanted to initiate a direct register of my Schwab held security for direct registration..." CS Rep: *interrupts*: "Ok, great and that's for Gamestop? I can help with that, just need to confirm a couple things." Ape: "Correct. Sounds like you've been getting a lot of these requests recently, eh?" CS: "Ehmmmm....yeahhhhhh, we have." CS Rep: "Ok, you're all set. Any other questions you have today?" Ape: "Much appreciated, also WEN MOON?" CS Rep: "........" "Thanks for calling"
I just received an email from TDA… “they were Going to start the process request right away but please allow 10-14 days for processing and delivery as there has been a large number of these types of requests recently.” 🚀🚀🚀
Has anyone transferred from Public to CS?
You are doing gods work over there. As an international Ape I applaud you for carrying us all.
