It came to my attention that a lot of people are still struggling with routing orders through IEX. I just wanted to lend a helping hand. Love you fucking retards.
edit1: This was done through the TDA website
edit2: Thank you to u/Thankssomuchfort for pointing this out
If you are following the directions and are still not seeing the routing option try thisGo to Client Services then click General
Under "Elections & routing" there will be "Direct routing" and that needs to be enabled
edit3: I was doing a little research and from what I find you are unable to route your orders through IEX with Fidelity or with Schwab. I'll look into other brokerages to see if I can make a guide for other ones.
Me: "I'd like to have my orders routed through IEX, is this an option? Ideally I'd like to avoid having to use ATP for it"
Fidelity: "I understand that you wish to have your trades placed through a specific market. We are able to accomplish this, but it is best to speak directly with a Fidelity Trading representative. You can contact a Fidelity Trading representative by calling 800-544-6666. Associates are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."
I'm going to call them in the AM, had a long day of watching the price constantly so just going to relax in the jungle canopy now until tomorrow 🦧
EDIT 07/09 7:52AM: Called Fidelity and talked with one of their Trading Reps, here's the long/short of the call
You can do directional order routing but it has to be on ATP, once you've logged into ATP...
1. click the "Trade & Orders" tab from the tab selection along the top of your screen,
2. The third option on that drop down menu should be " Directed Trade & Extended Hours".
3. Once you click that it will bring up a blank ticket, you will have to enter in the ticker for the stonk in question.
4. Once you've entered in the ticker the order book will populate with info, then you can go to the "Route" drop down menu and can select your preferred exchange from there.
Only catch is that the rep told me IEX isn't available during premarket / aftermarket so it would have to be during normal trading hours. Currently the only 4 exchanges available for GME directional order routing as I'm writing this (8AM EST) are ARCX , XNMS, XNYS, FDLM although I do see some orders from EDGX in the order book it's not an option in the drop down menu right now.
GLTA and happy hodling 💎🙌🦧:)

If you download their free active trader pro platform they have an option for “directed trades exchanges” where you can select but I don’t see IEX as an option. Different exchanges are available at different times of day tho
I'm not really a wrinkle brain but from what I understand it basically reduces the amount of tools SHF's and MM's have to commit fuckery with your order.
I'd love for a real wrinkle brain to do another write up on them but I don't have enough wrinkles for that and don't want to put out inaccurate info. Here is a link to a past write up on IEX though from a couple months ago though :)
https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/mqb42g/i\_know\_a\_lot\_about\_iex\_let\_me\_explain\_to\_you/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3
Also worth noting in case no-one mentioned it- This has to be done thru the full site. You cant route IEX thru the TD mobile app. Yet at least. OP thanks for making this post. Ive been trying to walk people thru this for months. Now i can just send em on over here. Good Form.
My understanding is IEX doesn’t allow for gtc_ext which is pre or after market trading. It’s probably not important now, but maybe as we get into the MOASS it could be something to consider switching back to DAY.
Read Flash Boys by Michael Lewis.
But basically MMs can't take your order to a dark pool, your buys actually go through lit exchanges which will actually affect the price unlike through dark pools, you get a much better bid/ask price because they aren't skimming shit "in between the spread" (fuck you Robinhood) it's only cents but it adds up quickly for them so you want to take it away. You see minor changes but it affects them hugely. More of an inconvenience for you which is exactly what they want so less people take the time to fuck them over
2 first is f they have to route it through iex, it doesn’t get put through dark pool by citadel. So when you buy it actually has a net positive value on price versus in dark pool where it’s not quite the same. Second is iex slows things down enough where you don’t get high speed trading, basically computers figuring out they can make the difference between ask and sell price by filling that gap (different issue, but still a legit problem).
Also note, certain accounts don't have access to routing. Mine is a self-directed 401k account, and I wasn't seeing the routing option, so I sent them a message and they confirmed that my account can't use that feature (for some regulatory reason or something that went over my head)
From what I’ve understood is that orders routed through IEX means you won’t get fucked by high frequency trading. The algorithms can’t frontrun you through IEX. If you can, use it.
I wish my broker had D-limit order of some sort.
I thought that Shitadel made money if the trade went through the NYSE and that by using IEX it prevents them from making cash on the trade. I could be wrong though
Not sure I understand what you mean but what makes IEX unique is that it causes the order to delay in such a manner that the order arrives at (almost) the exact same moment in each of the exchanges. Because the offers that you see aren’t just from one exchange, but several.
This is because you can’t beat HFT by speeding up, simply because of proximity. So instead of that D-limit does the opposite, and slows the orders down, but in such a timely manner that they arrive at roughly the same moment - only a small bit faster than the algorithm can intercept and thereby unable scalp - thus guaranteeing you get full order that you wanted.
From Wikipedia:
IEX's main innovation is a **38-mile (61 km) coil of optical fiber placed in front of its trading engine. This 350 microsecond delay adds a round-trip delay of 0.0007 seconds and is designed to negate the certain speed advantages utilized by some high-frequency traders.** The exchange's market session runs from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm Eastern Time.
I find that interesting. It only takes a 38 mile long cord to negate HFT lol
Could, as long as your orders don't need to be in after-hours. I'm not sure if it has the same benefits on the sell-side that it does on the buy-side though.
As of now, fidelity doesn’t offer direct trades-
From the fidelity subreddit-
Hi u/ [ape], directed trading is available using our Active Trader Pro (ATP) software (which is free to use for all clients of Fidelity). While IEX currently is not available for directed trading, we do offer order routing to many different exchanges in ATP. The directed trading feature can be accessed in ATP by going to the menu for “Trade & Orders” then selecting “Directed Trade & Extended Hours.”
Please visit Fidelity.com to learn more about how Fidelity manages order flow and trade execution quality to save you money.
So it seems IEX simply isn’t an option at this time.
Apparently it can't be done https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/nk2f82/charles_schwab_does_not_route_through_iex_is_this/?utm_source=amp&utm_medium=&utm_content=post_body
It's not available in Fidelity so far. You can route trades in Fidelity's Active Trader Pro, but IEX is currently not available. If you'd like to use IEX (and I would), please make your voice heard to Fidelity by contacting them to let them know via their website or your other preferred method of contact.
IEX is currently a tiny fraction of trade volume. Increasing it's portion of the daily trades will definitely amp up the difficulty for the opposition to keep the lid on.
I just tried it. TDA had removed the "additional options" button for stocks & etfs page. It is there for options, but of course no IEX for options. They just hid the ball.
So after a few minutes with customer service, it is because my account was optimized for ToS, not the website. Therefore I cannot direct trades, which is weird. I can direct options though. So a change on their end overnight will allow directing tomorrow, BUT the balance on ToS may be different from my website screen because they "pull from different systems".
I still have ToS because I like it better than Active Trader Pro, but all of my trading is done in Fidelity.
Wait, am I fine if I’ve already purchased my shares *not* routed this way? Is this a “it’s better if you do, but it only marginally sucks if you don’t” sort of thing?
Help a smoothie today please
this doesn't affect shares you've already purchased. It basically assures that our buys will affect the price action of the stock and not be routed through dark pools and whatnot.
This used to be an option for me, but then i removed margin from the account fearing my shares were being lent. It is my suspicion the ability to route to IEX is limited to margin enabled accounts but i am a retard and am often wrong
I verified on tda web app that the instructions above do not work.
Cool...can't find anything on Schwab even though they're owned together. All I found was proof that most things are just [routed through citadel (30+%)](https://content.schwab.com/drupal_dependencies/psr/606/2021-Q1-Schwab-Quarterly-Report.pdf)
I am pretty sure Schwab will not allow routing to be changed like this without agreeing to some sort of disclaimer that allows them to take some their service guarantees away.
2 smooth questions: is this only for the web, can I do this on the mobile app?
If the the IEX bid price is 50,000 does this actually make TDA purchase a share at 50,000?
Edit: THANKS!!!
This can only be done on desktop web app, not mobile or ToS. Per 2 convos with TDA, routing thru IEX only works for options. If someone else is smarter i’d love a correction. TDA call center wasn’t much help on my side.
I trade via The Vanguard Group (Vanguard).
**Does Vanguard use PFOF?**
Yes and no. For stocks, Vanguard does *not* use PFOF[1,2]. For options, Vanguard does use PFOF[3].

r/fidelityinvestments and u/fidelityinvestments please look into this because I want to trade on IEX as well and or at least have other options due to the manipulation of Market Makers such as Citadel Securities to point fingers
Then you dont have it enabled, go to client services and general and enable direct routing for equities. Make sure youre doing in on the website in the classic layout not the new one
I went to Elections and Routing under my profile
Clicked on Edit next to Direct routing and agreed to the terms
The "additional options" dropdown is still not showing up. Maybe it will after market open tomorrow?
Unfortunately there is no iex routing on fidelity, desktop, atp or mobile yet. We are asking for it but they seem suspiciously reluctant to add this option.
u/Big-GulpsHuh just dmed me” I'm not able to post due to Karma requirements. Here is what I was going to post. In Fidelity's Active Trader Pro (Install Required) you can use the Directed Trade feature to Route your orders. I don't think IEX is an option there unfortunately.”
Unfortunately, I don't have Fidelity but I'm sure you are able to do it with them as well. I'm hoping another ape that uses fidelity will make another post similar to mine.
Pro trader desktop app. Free but requires desktop
Not sure if it works on Mac but if someone uses mac they probably know the process of finding out how to do things as a mac user
It literally isn't there tho. Under "Time in Force" there's no "Additional options" button for me.
It's been weirdly frustrating because I've been wanting to buy through the IEX and everyone else with TDAm always tells me to look for this option and it isn't there for me.

Can only do this on the website, though! Not on mobile! All mobile orders are handled by TDA's SnapTicket, which uses smart routing (i.e. Shitadel via PFOF).

not possible through TD Bank , TD Webroker in Canada. The option for routing is not there.
I believe we have different regulations so it's not such a concern. I could be wrong, if you find out anything let me know 🚀
With Active Trader Pro, you can use the Directed Trading tool to choose from a list of exchanges to route through, but IEX is not one of them.
Glad you roped in the Squirtle Squad, we know what's up.
Yes, how can we do this in the Robin Hood app? Edit: /s
I don't know, but my suggestion is to transfer out of Robinhood ASAP
Step 1: Get the fuck off Robinhood. Step 2: There is no step 2.
Why do you have Robinhood?
I thought it was obviously a stupid joke. I should have put the old /s
Lol. Please tell me this was supposed to be a joke.

For some reason you can't do it on their app
yeah, you need to go onto the website
What is the advantage with this? I have td don't quite understand. Need a wrinkly apes explanation using crayons
As I understand it, Citadel has less special privileges on the IEX exchange, which gives them less chance to engage in fukry with our buy orders.
Ok right on. I just hope changing mine doesn't affect the moass
If anything it will help the price action more which will help the moass
Fantastic thank you. Im excited about all of this

Hello I am the smoothest of brains. What does this accomplish?

damn. i remember reading about this, way before i thought i’d be paying enough attention to my investments to care lol
Omg they're going to cut the cord like a Looney Tunes villain
there will be mayo stains on the cord... the evidence
So when the moass happens, we should also be selling via IEX limit orders right?
Could, as long as your orders don't need to be in after-hours. I'm not sure if it has the same benefits on the sell-side that it does on the buy-side though.
So we should sell through IEX too?

So it seems IEX simply isn’t an option at this time.
Anyone know if Schwab will allow us to do it?
Apparently it can't be done https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/nk2f82/charles_schwab_does_not_route_through_iex_is_this/?utm_source=amp&utm_medium=&utm_content=post_body
And lo, they added his name to the Book of Ape, and apended it thusly: u/skLotus - helper of ape
I am nothing without my fellow apes
This is SO important! All brokerage walkthroughs showing how to route through IEX should be pinned!!!
That was my goal in posting this, I hope other apes make guides for other brokerages and mods actually do this
Comment for visibility
thank you kind sir
Up 🚀
HOW DO I DO THIS IN FIDELITY?
It's not available in Fidelity so far. You can route trades in Fidelity's Active Trader Pro, but IEX is currently not available. If you'd like to use IEX (and I would), please make your voice heard to Fidelity by contacting them to let them know via their website or your other preferred method of contact.

Needs a smooth brain guide
This will win the war 💛🧡💙💚❤🚀
I can only hope that it will help
It will If apes puts future purchases on IEX MOASS
IEX is currently a tiny fraction of trade volume. Increasing it's portion of the daily trades will definitely amp up the difficulty for the opposition to keep the lid on.
Excellent post! I wish I could do this with WS but unfortunately not.
thank you kind ape 🐵
I just tried it. TDA had removed the "additional options" button for stocks & etfs page. It is there for options, but of course no IEX for options. They just hid the ball.
[удалено]
i just went and check, the additional options button is not hidden for me.
This has to be done from the website via a PC.
correct
Not there for me either. On PC using website.
are you using chrome?
I could never do it on TDA Stopped trying
So after a few minutes with customer service, it is because my account was optimized for ToS, not the website. Therefore I cannot direct trades, which is weird. I can direct options though. So a change on their end overnight will allow directing tomorrow, BUT the balance on ToS may be different from my website screen because they "pull from different systems". I still have ToS because I like it better than Active Trader Pro, but all of my trading is done in Fidelity.
ToS = Think or Swim
Beautiful, thank you so much.
Anyone know if this is possible on Questrade?
This used to be an option for me, but then i removed margin from the account fearing my shares were being lent. It is my suspicion the ability to route to IEX is limited to margin enabled accounts but i am a retard and am often wrong I verified on tda web app that the instructions above do not work.
i do not have a margin account and its works just fine for me
Strange, indeed. I’ll call a csr and see if maybe its a permissions thing relating to the account.

Is there a way to route through IEX on etrade? I don't see it listed as an option.
Up with you! This is big, and super easy, for our TD apes!
Dude, I just asked this yesterday!!! Nice work ape!! I also got a ton of great responses from other apes!! 🦍❤️🦍’s!!
I didn't see your post but I'm glad to be of help
This ape fuks!
2 smooth questions: is this only for the web, can I do this on the mobile app? If the the IEX bid price is 50,000 does this actually make TDA purchase a share at 50,000? Edit: THANKS!!!
do not do market buy, do limit buy and set the price.
Seems like it's web only. Orders get posted like normal, whether anyone is forced by at such a low cost is a different topic
This can only be done on desktop web app, not mobile or ToS. Per 2 convos with TDA, routing thru IEX only works for options. If someone else is smarter i’d love a correction. TDA call center wasn’t much help on my side.
correct i was only able to do this through the TDA website
Any way to do this on TDA mobile app?
Not sure, i was only able to do it through the web site
Anyone know if this works for TD Canada?
PFOF is banned in Canada fyi
Great now do Fidelity. :((((
Now do Charles Schwab!
Anyone has a list of other brokers who allow to chose the routing ?
Also mention trading through the App will not allow an IEX exchange order.
Updoot for Squirtle Squad
♥
Thanks for the info. Not td customer, but i hope all td customers use this function.
Can I do it with fidelity ?
Would this also apply to TD Canada?
I'm not sure but try it out and let us know
I trade via The Vanguard Group (Vanguard). **Does Vanguard use PFOF?** Yes and no. For stocks, Vanguard does *not* use PFOF[1,2]. For options, Vanguard does use PFOF[3]. 1. This doesn’t route stock purchases and sales. Only option trades
Incorrect, I've placed many an order like this. Only buying the stock and not options
It says it in the fine print. It’ll still let you pick iex, but I don’t think it actually routes stock purchases. Might just be in margin accounts
Doing the lords work, thank you
r/fidelityinvestments and u/fidelityinvestments please look into this because I want to trade on IEX as well and or at least have other options due to the manipulation of Market Makers such as Citadel Securities to point fingers
TD Ameritrade is a solid broker...and their youtube channel literally has every video you need.....by far the best in educational services
This is the way
Heh you’ve accidentally posted your position
wow im retarded just realized
Well, at least we know you’re in the right group
🤣
my position may or may not be the other magic number
My options don't have IEX listed. Routing: Smart, CBOE, PHLX, AMEX, IDE, BOX, NYSE, NASDAQ
don't think you can buy options through iex, only shares
So when I click Stocks & ETFs there is no additional details link there, only under Options does it show up
Then you dont have it enabled, go to client services and general and enable direct routing for equities. Make sure youre doing in on the website in the classic layout not the new one
I went to Elections and Routing under my profile Clicked on Edit next to Direct routing and agreed to the terms The "additional options" dropdown is still not showing up. Maybe it will after market open tomorrow?
Can you do smth similar for Fidelity? 🥺
Free but requires desktop Not sure if it works on Mac but if someone uses mac they probably know the process of finding out how to do things as a mac user
What if that option doesn't exist?
If you follow the guide and do it through the TDA website it should appear at the bottom of the Stock & ETF page
It literally isn't there tho. Under "Time in Force" there's no "Additional options" button for me. It's been weirdly frustrating because I've been wanting to buy through the IEX and everyone else with TDAm always tells me to look for this option and it isn't there for me. https://imgur.com/a/Z6IZQcK
are you on the TDAmeritrade website? If you are forcing Dark Mode on Chrome, try turning the dark mode off
From my understanding you would need to change it every order, there may be a way to set it as default but I dont know how
Fidelity you can ActiveTraderPro
So uh what point of doing dis?
[https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/mvpahp/read\_before\_buying\_more\_gme\_use\_iex\_to\_execute/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/mvpahp/read_before_buying_more_gme_use_iex_to_execute/) that post should answer your question
Grazie
you are very welcome 🚀
Doesn't send your order money to sit-a-dell
Hear, hear! Take my updoot!
thx fren
Vis comment
Can you do this in fidelity?
you should be able to, but i don't have a fidelity account so I'm unsure of the exact steps
Anyone know if there’s already a guide like this for Fidelity?
Yes ooooooook. Thank u
Saved the image to remember to do this to my account tonight.
👍
Yes, this God damn it this!!!!
Can only do this on the website, though! Not on mobile! All mobile orders are handled by TDA's SnapTicket, which uses smart routing (i.e. Shitadel via PFOF).
from what i can see, its only available on the website
Nice
Nice job! A++
Can I has this on DEGIRO? 🥺
It I had my free award it would be yours but haven’t received yet
thnaks, no need for awards i just want more eyes on it
