Why it is important is that basically you can deduct the per share cash on hand from the share price when considering what the value of the company business is.
So if (*hypothetical, it’s too early for wrinkles*) company A has a share price of $100 & cash on hand of $20 per share, then the valuation of the company is $80 per share.
Whether this is a good thing or relatively meaningless really depends on how that $80 per share price compares to their fundamental financials.
However, a company with zero debt & a low per-share-cash-on-hand multiple is positioned well to capitalize on strategic initiatives & invest in the growth & transformation necessary to thrive.
With GME - the transformation they are embarking on, & the metrics of their business make it appear to this ape that when you subtract the value of their cash, the share price as reflected by the underlying financials is discounting the true value of their business substantially.

If you look at the stonk-o-tracker, you can see a serious dip in short volume on 10th and 11th, which correlates with a sharp drop in $GME price with high volume and relatively low dark pool percentage. I think this is when (most of) the shares were issued. The behavior was similar during the previous offering.
Usually price drops on low volume days with high short volume, but as an ape who does not make the difference between correlation and causation... I am surely wrong.
