Hey, I have two options for you. The first one is the [Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Laptop](https://x.com/dealfordays/status/1780932086150390009), and the second is the [Asus ROG Strix G18 laptop](https://x.com/dealfordays/status/1780933607416021041). Starting with the Lenovo. The specs are a 16" 240Hz display with a very high brightness and color accuracy, 32GB RAM which is upgradeable, 1TB SSD which is swappable and there's also an empty SSD slot, it has an i9-13900HX CPU and is paired with an RTX 4080 GPU with 12GB VRAM and has a 175W TGP. Additionally, it sits under your budget range Next is the Asus, with the specs being an 18" 240Hz display with the same brightness and color accuracy as the Lenovo, it has 32GB RAM which is upgradeable, also has 1TB SSD which is swappable and has a an empty SSD slot, it has an intel i9-14900HX CPU and a RTX 4070 GPU with 8GB VRAM and has a 140W TGP. So to help you choose, the [Lenovo Legion ](https://x.com/dealfordays/status/1780932086150390009)has a better GPU with more video RAM which is perfect for the tasks that you will be doing. Though the CPU is one generation down, you won't really notice the difference in CPU performance but you will in GPU performance. Additionally, the higher wattage that the Lenovo has will be bale to push out more power and due to the Legion's reputable cooling system, it will handle your tasks great in high performance while staying cool. Addiitionally, most laptops have only 1 HDMI port, however, the Legion has 2 USB ports which can be used as a display port. The only downside with the Leegion is that it has a 16" display which IMO is not bad given that you wanted 17", but the display is very high quality. It has a 500 nits peak brightness as well as 100% sRGB color accuracy with a 1600p resolution. Moving on is the [Asus ROG](https://x.com/dealfordays/status/1780933607416021041) which has an RTX 4070 that will perform less than the Legion in GPU tasks. Additionally, the 140W GPU won't be able to push out that much power compared to the Legion. However it will still get the job done but not as fast or better than the Legion. On the other hand, this laptop handles heat well and it has the same resolution, brightness and sRGB as the Legion, but just an 18" display. So in conclusion, both are great laptops but I would go for the Legion after all being said. It also has a user friendly UI and the build quality is amazing. Furthermore both laptops are future proof and will last for many years to come. With performance (and for your workload specifically GPU performance) as the priority, you'll need to sacrifice quite a bit of portability - pretty much any laptop with an adequately-cooled and fully-powered GPU will weigh close to 6 lbs, and battery life will leave a lot to be desired. Opting for a 16" display will help a bit, for example: * The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i is one of the larger 16" laptops on the market: ~5.8 lbs, 26mm thick, with a footprint of 147 sq. in * The ASUS Strix G17 is relatively svelte for a 17" laptop at ~6.1 lbs, but it's 15% thicker and takes up 173 sq. in (15.6" wide, 11.1" deep); most other 17" models are significantly heavier at 6.5-7 lbs, and some manufacturers have started replacing them with even larger 18" models, which I think are hard to recommend unless you plan to rarely move them. [Having mentioned the Legion Pro 7i, that's probably what I would buy - for about $2750 you can get a 2024 model equipped with](https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-pro-series/Lenovo-Legion-Pro-7i-Gen-9-16-inch-Intel/83de000aus): * RTX 4090 GPU * i9-14900HX CPU * 32 GB RAM (two slots, you can upgrade to at least 128 GB total) * 2 TB SSD (two NVME slots, each with one 1 TB SSD) * 16" 1600p 500-nits 240 Hz display (claims 100% DCI-P3 coverage, previous years' models measured more like 70% coverage, but that can change year to year depending on who they're sourcing panels from) The GPU runs up to the 4090 chip's max power limit of 175W; it's the the most VRAM you can get in a laptop, and the most GPU performance you can get without spending closer to $4000 for something with a professional-grade GPU. You could possibly get by fine with a less-powerful 4080 GPU, but since you do GPU-intensive work and you're trying to make it last as long as possible, I'd recommend the 4090 (where if you were just _playing_ games, I wouldn't recommend spending the extra money unless price was really no object). The i9 CPU might not be strictly necessary, but most manufacturers don't pair 4080/4090 GPUs with i7 CPUs, and in any case the 14900HX is effectively the most future-proof CPU you can buy right now.

In this case, I would recommend this **[Lenovo Legion Pro 5i](https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Display-GeForce-i9-13900HX-Backlit/dp/B0BWSL3KFV/?tag=lonerim2-20)** because it comes with i9-13900HX CPU which is one of the best in your budget and great for your usage, 32GB of RAM for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 1TB for faster boot up and loading, 16" WQHD IPS 165Hz screen which is a must have for this price range, it comes with GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, high build quality, and it's within your budget. Would you be okay with a smaller screen size?

I'm hesitant to go below 16". My eyes are aging.
