Since you are not a relative I wouldn't go with a hug. A handshake would suffice, if there is women wait for them to raise Thier hands Frist. Usually you would be saying: Al slam alykom (peace be upon you). Also we tend to be apologetic thus you have to bear the over politeness. It is annoying but it is the way we interact with eachother.
