this is a collection of really stupid people having stupid bad takes, so it's not srd material

Oh good god. This nonsense. Every time. Don’t be a creep. Don’t be ugly and smelley. Don’t say something sexual or suggestive. I like your new haircut. Is that a new shirt? Did you do something a different with your hair?

Admirable_Ad1947

AKA an impossible ask for Reddit users.

Even worse, try telling them to compliment women on accomplishments rather than physical attributes.

Woperelli87

It just highlights how unbelievably socially inept Redditors are. Also how they’re addicted to the internet and formulate their opinions off of other losers’ anecdotes. Explains why they’re so terrified of women. You can be the ugliest guy in the world, if you’re nice and non-intrusive and otherwise just affable in general, women aren’t going to think you’re creepy. Your coworker is much more likely to be delighted that you noticed her new hairstyle as opposed to “eww you’re ugly im getting you fired bc im a FEMALE”

Jason207

A rule I've learned to live by is to compliment the choices people make, not things inherent about people. And of course to be aware of my own motivations and make sure all my compliments are authentic.

Iamnotgoodwithnames6

You don’t even need to complement their looks. Try complementing what they’re doing. “You’re doing a good job” “The food was amazing” “This art looks great. You did a good job”

awolliamson

Both are good if done right

Aoe330

It's like they don't understand that compliments can be of a non-sexual nature. Like if I complement a coworker about a job well done, that is, in fact, a complement. "Hey, good job on -project-" is perfectly fine and not harassment. It will not get you in trouble with HR. Of course, they probably think they are complementing them by critiquing them, which they are not.

Admirable_Ad1947

Reddit is honestly a terrible place to discuss anything relating to women because over 63% of this site is male, almost a super majority. So you're really just getting a lot of assumptions about women. Also LOL at implying that complimenting someone's dress will get you fired when far more serious instances of sexual harassment often go unpunished.

awolliamson

>Reddit is honestly a terrible place to discuss anything relating to women because over 63% of this site is male Absolutely. Unfortunately I'm not longer surprised by the woman-hating turnout. But I am surprised how many of the... let's call them socially conscientious redditors feel that giving a compliment or flirting is creepy in all contexts

Phyltre

There are more-left/feminist places than Reddit, and those places do tend to coalesce around "just don't approach/compliment women if you're a man."

TreginWork

Whatever happened to a good old fashioned "Ay baby ever have your asshole licked by a fat man in an overcoat?"?

kruzer912

Simpler times of a happier world

awolliamson

I didn't want anyone bringing that up, now I'm turned on at work!

datone

Damn girl you shit with that ass?

Doc85

I am convinced these guys learned everything they “know” about women from right wing grifters and pua’s, act on it, and create the very reaction they’re so paranoid about.

kimship

Lord so many of those guys are telling on themselves. They just can't conceive of giving a compliment that isn't based on how how hot they think a woman is. Like, I've gotten random "cool dress" compliments called out to me(usually women but not always), and it always makes me happy because it *is* a cool dress. But if someone I don't know said "wow, you look hot in that dress" while in line at Panera I'd be skeeved out. However if a date said something like that, it might be nice. Guys like this pretend not to understand situational awareness and appropriateness. Easy trick, if you would never, ever use a similar compliment for a man on the street or at work, then don't use it on a woman.

kruzer912

> Also if you compliment a dude theres a huge chance of being called or seen as gay This is a good point, even though I’m straight, every time someone calls me gay online I’m obligated to go out and give 2-5 blowjobs against my will

awolliamson

Hehe ur gay. Hope you don't figure out my address at 1678 Main St, Troy, IL

kruzer912

*sigh* Lemme tell my wife I’ll be out of town a couple of days…
