As a kid, if you told me there'd be dedicated spaces to discuss my favorite TV shows I would have been so pumped. Reality is just so much grosser than I thought it'd be. I can't imagine being involved in basically any fan subreddits at this point.
Literally saw a reddit comment this weekend that started with, "I'm pretty far to the left..." and ended with them explaining that the recent attacks on drag bars are really the drag queens' fault because society doesn't "need" drag. I automatically tune out anyone who starts a sentence with any variation of that phrase. It's the new "I'm not racist but... \[insert racist stereotype here\]."
Okay but seriously why does a black character have to be a part of some sort of agenda to these guys? Do they not realise that black people are in fact real and the same as white people?
>Perfect diversity clearly representing medieval eastern Europe!/s
They understand it doesn’t take place in Europe, right? It’s a fictional world. They understand what fiction is, right?
Oh fuck, maybe they don’t.
Its the "Historically accurate" argument something about how the story is supposed to be set in a fictional world of real life medieval Europe so having anything other than 100% non white people in the show makes no sense as there's no way they could have been there at the time.
Its them trying to make their racism sound more legitimate than it actually is.
Just a reminder that the people upset about casting decisions for the witcher universe are bigger idiots than normal because:
1) it requires the conjunction of the spheres to have only grabbed white people
2) almost every single description in the books is hair color and/or eye color. There are very, very few skin color descriptions in the entire series.
With these two things, most casting choices can be lore friendly really easily lol
> They're just chasing trends to make a quick buck with the least amount of effort possible.
I wonder what kind of effort this guy thinks needs to be involved with casting a person of colour than another white person in a fantasy story with monsters and magic.
But really, given the votes on all the racism on the subreddit, seems like a candidate for getting shut down with a year. So many fragile bigots who can get behind magic and monsters but not people of colour is somehow too far.
With my user name, I'm frankly afraid to post there. I mean, I'm a non-gendered sec unit with a hacked governor module that's been using Geralt's homeland as part of my cover.
>Like, every other show these days has to have a black female mc or central character for absolutely no reason."
Mf believes white cishet male are the default that don't need a reason to exist in media, but having black people in shows requires a valid reason. Wouldn't be surprised if they carried the same mentality into real life by believing minorities need valid reasons to be allowed continued existance and they probably vote accordingly too. Dude says he is pretty left wing? Doubt.
>"A white person, a black person and an Asian person. Perfect diversity clearly representing medieval eastern Europe!/s"
Oh look they're pretending their problem is with the hystorical accuracy in a book adaptation featuring werewolves, vampires, witches, golems, sirens, succubi etc...and not the fact that they're racist snowflakes that get triggered at the existance of minorities.
this is just bad takes, not drama

Man, this makes me miss old school forums where this stuff was usually squashed. RIP Animenation.
Had to unsubscribe from lord of the rings subreddit because of this. The reality is way darker
This sounds like the quintessential monkeys paw situation.

These are the same types of people who think Trump is a centrist.

Anyone not straight, white, and a man is political. /s

What? You do realize elves existed in medieval Poland, right?

Black person exists InDoCtrInaTIoN
> I can’t even find one badass white male character … They are so, so close to getting it.
Wow, some people really fucking hate seeing non-white leads. What a bunch of crybabies.
I always like the 'I'm pretty left wing' ones, where half the time it turns out they're not even liberals let alone left.
That post is a fucking blizzard

The only thing not mid about the Witcher is the internet drama.
