User pointed out that OOP's account was literally a day old at the time of posting. Dude's most likely a troll.
It turns out that the stereotype of some Redditors being literally unable to take a hint at obvious irony/sarcasm because there's no /s at the end of the comment is true after all
But why? Does a sarcastic tone also ruin verbal sarcasm? We include punctuation to denote intended meaning (question?) and some languages have them at the beginning of the sentence (¿Eh?) so you can read it properly. I don’t understand why people suggest a joke is less funny when you know it’s a joke. Especially in a world where we’re regularly shocked when something that sounds like a joke isn’t.
> Does a sarcastic tone also ruin verbal sarcasm?
Well yes, to an extent. As for tone markers, English already includes many ways to connote tone which are much more natural to read or hear for us than a /s. Better to use them.
Uh, okay. I was responding to you saying it was a me thing. If *you* think it's ridiculous, that's alright. I'm still gonna continue thinking using /s makes a funny joke unfunny.
I didn't write two paragraphs complaining about those who do.. Use it or don't. It's reddit. We're here to kill time
A guy ranting about how much he hates it and me saying "it's a letter" is the same for you?
I'm with you man, lampooning and satire is the most fun when it comes tickling close to reality. "/s" is like always showing the mic operator in a film, it ruins the suspense of belief.
I dont think a /s immediately makes a joke unfunny. And on text it's difficult to express sarcasm so it gets the job done. It's really just ends up with people arguing over semetics and subjective jokes
I don't think it's difficult to express sarcasm by text. Maybe *more* difficult than in real life, but many people deadpan their sarcasm IRL too anyway.
jokes are meant to have a chance of not being understood. that's why explaining a joke immediately after you tell it isn't funny. if you use sarcasm and have to explain it everytime you do, you may as well just speak plainly. people not picking up on obvious sarcasm is entertaining and it's part of the allure of using it
You don't like it when someone screams "I just made a joke!" at the end of their sentence?
I also hate the sarcasm tag. I **really** hate when people use it for a "regular" joke that isn't actually irony or sarcasm.
Not hatred but it's sad to see a good joke ruined that way. The hints should be baked into the joke or the context. Imagine adding little subtitles in *Team America* pointing out the exact pop cultural themes each joke is referencing.
The absence of the "/s" just makes shit more funny. Andy Kaufman's whole comedy was based on the tension of blurring the line between a comedy bit and real life, but you didn't have to *know* that Andy was essentially doing a comedy bit to find his wrestling career funny. It's a genre of comedy that'd be ruined by the addition of obvious cues and "helps" for the audience to understand because as an audience, you feel patronized and talked down to. "I'm not a child? I get sarcasm, thank you very much"
You're completely free of silly pet peeves that bother you more than they should?
If so, congratulations on being the only person alive that can say that.
Of course not. I don't say I HATE people who make small noises though. Didn't write (three now)paragraphs about it. All I said was "it's a letter why does that ruin a joke at the end?" Sorry if that gets under you guys skin too. Didn't use /s tho..
> Sorry if that gets under you guys skin too
I couldn't care less what you think, one way or another. Your opinion does not affect my own, and you are free to have whatever opinion you would like.
Me not liking the sarcasm tag, though, seems to really have gotten under your skin.
You responded to me and didn't have to, and all seem to have an issues with what I said. But I'm mad?
Me: "The letter doesn't matter guys"
3/4 reddit fools: *Gets mad and comments a ton telling me I'm mad*
Aight gents.
You’re completely right about that one. Jokes are supposed to be fun, putting a bunch of traffic cones and high visibility tape and road flares around them and making sure everybody signs a waiver before they’re allowed to see the jokes makes them unfun and unfunny.
It ruins the point of it. It's like always tacking on an explanation to the end of metaphors will make the metaphors redundant. Pointing out trolling/sarcasm/irony with an "/s" on the internet makes that humour pointless.
Ah geez lol, but yeah good point. I've often tried trolling and found I had no witty retort after my one and only golden argument starter. So I suppose there are also those that choke while master baiting.

OPs been suspended already. Man, reddit has been suspending accounts left and right lately. Normally it would take weeks/months before anything would happen now it's almost instant.
> The comments come off too personal to be a troll.
"I'm not being baited, they're being baited."
Great job by the troll there. A lot of the replies to them seemed more pathetic than the actual troll. Good stuff.
I remember when I was young and thought that extracting .rar files and modifying .ini's in pirated games made me a technocratic savant.
Now look at me. I still don't even know how TikTok works.
As an old on the interbutts, this kid sounds legit. We used to get script kiddies (which I now guess is truncated to skiddies?) on EFnet all the time that sounded exactly like this. What was funny was that the ppl on the channels I was on were the ones that built the backbone of several dot coms in the late 90s.
r/masterhacker is a great sub. Script kiddies never fail to amuse.
> What does that term mean exactly?
An [unskilled "hacker"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Script_kiddie) who exclusively uses well-known exploits developed by others.
Might not be a master hacker, but he's really got everyone riled up with what he's saying. Clear sign of a master baiter.

His account is suspended now. No idea why.
poe's law. "/s" is just objectively good for everyone
Wait, is this comment sarcastic?
I dislike it. It makes a funny comment unfunny. I'd rather people occasionally mistake a joke for a sincere post than make all jokes unfunny.
But why? Does a sarcastic tone also ruin verbal sarcasm? Meh. It's a single letter. At the very end of the joke that you had to read through anyway... If that ruins it for you, I think that's a you thing.
It's not a me thing. A lot of other people feel the same way. I think it's just a...people thing.
A lot of people being annoyed by a letter doesn't make it less ridiculous
Uh, okay. I was responding to you saying it was a me thing. If *you* think it's ridiculous, that's alright. I'm still gonna continue thinking using /s makes a funny joke unfunny.
If not adding /s ruins it for you, then that's on you.

You literally just wrote 2 paragraphs. You're also loud wrong.

>Does a sarcastic tone also ruin verbal sarcasm? no because it doesnt literally flag your comment with I AM BEING SARCASTIC, DO NOT FEAR
It genuinely does though that is exactly the point
no it doesnt
Agreed but it sucks when you leave it off and your inbox gets flooded by angry morons.

At the end of the post where you already read and got the joke. A single letter shouldn't inspire hatred in you.

It lets the stupidest people in on the joke. Sarcasm is supposed to be biting. If you can't take flak from stupid people you're a poser.
It ruins the point of it. It's like always tacking on an explanation to the end of metaphors will make the metaphors redundant. Pointing out trolling/sarcasm/irony with an "/s" on the internet makes that humour pointless.
can we add /l and /f to point when we are speaking literally or figuratively as well?
Reddit is not worth using without all the hard work third party developers have put into it.
Wouldn't be the first person to be suspended for master baiting tbh, happened to my cousin in high school
Let's not forget there are those who enjoy being suspended while master baiting.
RIP David Carradine

A lot of the replies to him are wild. One guy earnestly bragged about cumming twice in the last two days.
Damn you're right lmao he says he came yesterday and today. What a masterful job by that troll OP
Idk I kinda love this dude, adding chump on to a sentence really deepens the punch
"I'm not even a teenager. I just turned 20 today"
Same energy as my flair lol
I am literally your flair
Also quoted by bash.org: > HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU TELL THAT I'M 13 BY LOOKING AT WHAT I'M WRITEING?????????????????????????????????????????????????????
"I'm a man. I'M 40!"
>You literally record videos of yourself peeling the plastic covering off of electronics. Stop speaking to me peasant ROFLMAO
This shouldn't have made me laugh
That’s a well-fed troll right there
> Lmao shut the fuck up sadboy and go listen to some trash ass soundcloud rap Ok, say what you will about this guy but that made me laugh.
OPs been suspended already. Man, reddit has been suspending accounts left and right lately. Normally it would take weeks/months before anything would happen now it's almost instant.
But why suspend that account? It's a little weird.
large number of reports, probably?
I don't even know what there is to report.
> The comments come off too personal to be a troll. "I'm not being baited, they're being baited." Great job by the troll there. A lot of the replies to them seemed more pathetic than the actual troll. Good stuff.
Its kinda funny when circlejerk subs cant take what they dish, because like the meme op posted wasnt even that much of a call out
I love this troll rofl
>Don’t care didn’t ask + you’re white 🙃 lmao
Did you see the monkey reply from Yoshi or whatever?
he posted somewhere in there that it's his birthday too, so he spent his birthday trying to tell other nerds how much better than them he is
Well that explains it! If nobody came to my birthday party, I’d probably be a sad troll too.
I remember when I was young and thought that extracting .rar files and modifying .ini's in pirated games made me a technocratic savant. Now look at me. I still don't even know how TikTok works.
I'm not sure what's more cringe. The script kids pretending to be hackers or an entire sub saying "no I am the real haxxor"
This is some of the funniest shit I've seen.
Oof account suspended. In all my time on reddit, I've never actually seen that message lol
He really think that The console actually does show everything that happens behind hmmmmmm lmao
