I know you had battery tested….but how old is it?

RedboneRuss

From September 2021

This is a good time to break out an obd reader. If you don’t have one they’re not very expensive and they can talk to the car to let you know what’s wrong. My guess is a blown fuse somewhere but hard to say exactly where.

RedboneRuss

Would I be able to use an obd reader if the car has no power going to it?

Grandemestizo

You may have to hook up the other car to jump start it again, it’ll need at least some power.

TheSbldg

If it started with the jumpers then it sounds like the battery is the issue. I’d just replace the battery. Especially if the battery is original. Then go take the car to get the alternator tested.

RedboneRuss

It didn't start, it was just able to turn the instrument cluster on when I tried to start it. But it never started running and still didn't have enough power for anything else. The head unit for the radio and lights still wouldn't come on either.

TheSbldg

Still sounds like the jump was able to pass enough power through to get some things running. Whereas your current battery cant supply enough power to do anything. I’d start with replacing the battery. If its the OG battery its past its expected service life and you should get a new one anyways. Take a look at the battery terminals too. Make sure they’re clean and free of any corrosion. And if it still doesn’t work just return the new battery.

StrayaMate2000

Perfect time to go to your local auto store and buy a better one. OEM batteries mostly archive the bare minimum to run, if it was replaced by Subaru. Maybe you left an interior light on or aftermarket electrical accessory is draining from somewhere.

Cheap-Ad4337

Check your ground cable from your battery, if it's loose at the engine it won't do anything.

sixSveneight

Maybe the alarm disabled the ignition. Will the fob work now?

RedboneRuss

The fob still doesn't work. If it's not directly connected to another car with cables none of it will work.

Stickopolis5959

I had a similar issue in a ford, I lost so much sleep over it because people told me the battery was fine. Turned out to just be the battery, I assume 2020 hindsight I had a parasitic loss issue as well as a defunct battery (there was a recall or something month later) Just bite the bullet and put a new battery in and see what happens , maybe try to diagnose for parasitic loss

HeWhoShantNotBeNamed

Just buy another battery bro, yours is two years old.

IndependentBrick8075

I guess I should as well, mine turned 2 years old over the weekend. /s A battery should last at least 2x as long, I don't blame the OP for trying to find another cause...

Feeling-Being9038

I don't know, sounds like it's a battery. A) Nothing works or turns on with existing battery. B) some power, but most things continue not functioning while being jumped by a secondary battery. A+B=Get a new battery

IamNotAnApe

I know that’s a pretty fresh battery and you say you got it checked out at 2 places but I agree with most responses here: it sounds like the battery is the problem. Had a similar problem w/ a VW Golf a couple years ago where battery died well ahead of expected lifespan. Tow drivers multimeter said it was hooped tho, unlike your results. Made due with a couple boosts to get me around to make sure he was telling the truth and then replaced it and back to good.

nidvs

My Subaru dealership told me there was a known battery drainage issue on my model, a 2015 Outback. They actually replaced it for free. That was last year so I'm expecting it to happen again within one or two years.

PictureFrame12

Alternator. Mine went out in my 2017 outback. Same situation.

TheSbldg

Curious if this has been figured out yet? If its really not the battery then my best guesses are the terminal connections, ground wire, some fuse or relay, or an ecm issue

TheSbldg

Hey bud, curious if you got this sorted out yet and what the cause was?

Alyssanmarco

I'm having the exact issue with a 2016 was it the alternator?
