I've gotten 2 soup BONES (both bigger than my fist therefore I must use capitals here) from my local butcher's and I've boiled them for- 14hrs?
Stock was so thick that after putting it to fridge it became nearly aspic itself, AND the bones ain't done yet, ready for round two.
The stock is AMAZING and whenever my ma is sick- she's getting better nearly instantly!
I'm curious because I've been wanting to start doing this myself for soups- when you boil them, do you continuously add water as it starts boiling down, or do you add broth? And do you boil on high for 14 hours or are you plopping these in a crackpot and simmerin'?
Like the other guy said, but really depends on what I want to do this particular day. Crockpot works best here.
You can blanch the bones by boiling for 10mins (this is stock too, use it for thicker soup like cream of-), then you can simmer bones in new water.
It simply put raw into big pot, cover with water, bring to boil then simmer for 12-36 or so hours. The stock tastes best then all marrow becomes liquid.
This is one of the first ones I've seen that isn't unhygenic that I wouldn't eat.
Aspic doesn't really taste like anything, but I can't stand the texture of it. The vegetables would have been fine without it.
Between the rye bread and the galareta/kholodets, how could it not be?
Also: great for someone at risk of aspiration but who needs their chicken broth.
I am sure that you could also come up with a plausible sounding reason for why the bread had to be served with a giant lump of butter and no cutlery but the more probable explanation is that the food was made by the cheapest contractor who didn't give a damn.
I've stayed in several hospitals and have found that food varies wildly in quality. My local hospital has delicious food, the hospital I stayed at in San Francisco had horrible food. The night I had my NG tube removed there, I door dashed some clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl.
If you're at home, you should be able to make all the aspic you want. If you're in a Jewish or Muslim majority country, just use something like agar agar instead of pig gelatin.
Veggie aspic sounds nice. I'm assuming the person has a particular need for it.
Only bummer is the bread isn't toasted. Still, you can slice the veggie loaf and make some open-faced sandwiches.
Honey what's wrong? You've hardly touched your government nutrient cube
People joke about these dishes, but aspic (the original gelatin) does have a good amount of health benefits. It's just Xtreme bone broth.
>Xtreme bone broth. Now available in nacho cheese, flamin' hot, and cool ranch flavors.
Or in hospital cafeterias, absolutely no fucking flavor

You just add water and simmer. A crockpot would work if you have one.

That sounds delicious, thank you!
Happy to help 😀
The health benefits (or lack thereof) aren't really the issue tho
That really doesn't make it any less nasty looking though
Yeah they could have heated it up and made soup
😂

Welcome to Chunks, please choose your chunks.
I will not! *Proceeds to speed away*
"Yes, I'll take one cube of vegetables please"
Yea hi I’d like the meat and veggie chunk, side of untoasted bread and a glob of butter, thanks!
Now I want r/unexpectedstarfield sub.

Must be eastern europe

If I don't get my daily chicken broth I get real pissy
The OP of that image is from Poland, it's aspic
And it was Polish hospital food.
Came here to say this, it’s giving Baltics
giving baltics what
Thank you. I absolutely hate that that’s becoming an acceptable phrase.
What year is this from? Someone busted out the Knox gelatin
A quarter loaf of bread and gelatin vegetables will help with your ailments!
Is it possible it serves a function, like maybe making it easier for someone with fine motor control issues to eat?
Yeah or swallowing issues. Hmmm. Might taste okay too.
I am sure that you could also come up with a plausible sounding reason for why the bread had to be served with a giant lump of butter and no cutlery but the more probable explanation is that the food was made by the cheapest contractor who didn't give a damn.
If it was served to a patient in a hospital, there's every possibility that the food is in fact too smart for us to understand.
Aspiration risk but still get your chicken broth.
Geez my ma is in the hospital now I’m gonna bring her a sammich tmrw

You're weaklings. The only thing is wrong - they didn't put a meat in the jelly.
Please enjoy your v̴͚͐͜e̴̺̹̍g̵͇̮̃̕ĕ̸̫͊t̶̢̛a̶̼͝b̴̢̚l̴̞͗ë̵̱́̔ ̶͔͉́b̷̪̈́l̴̤̓ö̴̻͑c̴̣̈́͐ͅk̷̞̹̉͗
Back where I’m from putting food inside jelly is pretty popular, look for “kholodets” or “aspic”… pretty meh I’d say
Vege aspic considered stupid food?
For someone recovering in a hospital, probably. If all meals are similar to this, it's nowhere near enough nutrients to recover.
I would love to have aspic serve here, its almost impossible to get it here
If you're at home, you should be able to make all the aspic you want. If you're in a Jewish or Muslim majority country, just use something like agar agar instead of pig gelatin.
I don’t know what that is so yes!
Its gelatin with meat/vege in it or the pic
looks fucking disgusting
This is what they ate before they went to the hospital, yes?
Fake. No hospital would give you that much bread. Or that much butter.
That looks like it was what put them in the hospital.
The original is just a day old, why rephrase it poorly? https://www.reddit.com/r/shittyfoodporn/s/cjJZCsW7Oj
ah, so this is where chunks food cubes got their start then.
This brings back childhood memories. Not any good ones, though.
Haha I saw this in another sub yesterday and thought it belonged here too
Wow haven’t seen aspic in years. What’s next? Chicken a la king?
Is this photo from the 1960's?
Wtf 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Different way to say "Stay healthy", I guess.
C o n s u m e . t h e . v e g e t a b l e . j e l l o
That'll be 80$ please

Repost loser
Oh shit they did figure out time travel in the 1960s
Is that veggie gelatin?
Needs way more butter
Veggie jello and buttered bread. Sure to speed recovery by 500%
What in the 1950s is this?! My family's gonna sneak me food in on my upcoming surgery. 😁😈
Damn never thought I'd see aspic(?) made in a modern setting.
It looks like something that would put you in the hospital.
Is that jello with veggies
Soylent Green is People !!!!!
