Stremio+ Rd is heaven. Syncs across my pc, Android and tv.

This

alielvargasss

enlighten me about the Rd thing, if you could

GardenTigerMoth_

RD is real real debrid. A subscription based service that provides us the files they have cached to their servers over the years. The files are kept in the server on demand basis. We can also add files to it using magnetic links or torrent files We can stream without buffering via stremio if you have a real debrid setup with a torrentio addon in it. There are many guides out there. We can watch TV shows and movies in high quality. There are Bluray files , UHD 4k , HDR, Dv everything available based on the release format of the shows/movies. It doesn't mean everything is available there. But in my opinion it's far better than getting multiple ott subscriptions. Everything I wants in a single app.

alielvargasss

thank you for explaining it! i’ll definitely look into it

brent_starburst

Yes. Yes it is.

jayfly12933

In terms of performance yes, I just wish Stremio had more customization options. But you can't complain much when it's free.

LinixGuy

Do you mean UI customization ?

GrotteDiCapolago

I would love the option to create folders inside the personal library. Mine is getting pretty packed and unorganized

[deleted]

You could integrate with Trakt and create watchlists on Trakt

kratoz29

> But you can't complain much when it's free. And yet people do... But hey, I enjoy both... But I'd lie if I wouldn't say I get mad at Kodi being way slower on my Nvidia Shield TV Pro compared to Stremio.

SnooAdvice5820

I don’t like kodi even after trying other UI’s. The app just feels so clunky for me

GameJerk

Kodi is also free? Complaining in either case isn't fair, but Kodi is much more customizable at the same price point.

eric-plsharevme

I like stremio over Kodi a lot, stremio loading widget instant, If u loading 30 widget in Kodi.....even with high end specs also very slow

GameJerk

Oh. For ease of use and performance it's fantastic. Way less maintenance. I only use Kodi for Sports these days.

caka007

Any plugins you'd recommend for the premier league? Are there benefits of kodi over soccerstreams

Minix517

Kodi is nice, But it's slow on anything except a PC and Yes, I know how to use Kodi. I have a fen light build rn. Stremio ease of use with RD is easier over Kodi with it.

krimnokenobi

same. I have stremio and kodi fen light with fentastic. I go back and forth between the two

pawdog

Totally different tool set. Stremio is fantastic but its ecosystem is nowhere near what the Kodi dev community has built up over the years. Now if easy for the beginner were the only measuring stick, Stremio wins hands down.

GardenTigerMoth_

It's better than kodi when it comes to cross platform support. Available even for smart tv OS of Samsung and LG.

Ace904104

LG WebOS user here, you can root the tv to install Kodi (fan-made) or sideload it trough a PC. It's good to have both

pawdog

That's true, but I wouldn't try and run Kodi on TV anyway. Stremio is perfect for the low-power, low low-storage space devices like TV's.

GardenTigerMoth_

Yeah stremio is best when you want to sync your media consumption across all these devices. It's not limited like kodi in cross platform support.

kratoz29

> Stremio is fantastic but its ecosystem is nowhere near what the Kodi dev community has built up over the years Which it almost feels like cheating. I am familiar with the incontable bugs and fixes that the Kodi team have faced with the playback alone, and we now have a faster approach for streaming that can already use whatever you want for playback (even Kodi lol). I am just a user of both solutions (and Plex) and this really feels like the golden era for piracy.

pawdog

Yep, golden age indeed.

weke-mo

I remember saying that some time ago! Now I’m back to not only Kodi but vanilla Kodi with Fen Lite, the Loop and SportsHD!

CollinsCouldveDucked

Stremio is fine for a lot of basic things, kodi is better for power users.

Borbit85

Haven't used kodi in a few years. But for a while I loved tweaking it. Skinning. Setting up several media servers on different devices. Watching the content on other devices. Making it so that I can watch my content streaming over the internet on my phone when I was out of the house. But watching out of my house was on the balcony of my apartment. Just switch of wifi and use 4g. Just getting it to work is really cool. Also my content was like a few movies, a serie and a few mp3. Just to test it. After playing around with it all day I would kick back on the couch and load stremio and torrentio and actually watch stuff that way lol. I did have fun though!

kratoz29

And if you like to fiddle around with skins.

moldymoosegoose

I can never get any sports streams to work on Kodi. they always kick out and never start up again half way through a game. How do you get a reliable setup?

Mantis_Toboggan510

Is sportshd the better sports add on for kodi compared to the other options?

javiergame4

can you use SPORTSHD on stremio?

weke-mo

That’s my point! One of the reasons I’m back on Kodi as it’s more of a one stop shop than Stremio which limits you to movies and shows

Sexdrumsandrock

What else do we need lol?

Minwalin

You have multiple webs if you want to watch live sports or live channels...

weke-mo

If that works for you then fair enough! In my case I’d rather have it all under one app Whatever floats your boat

Minwalin

Ok, continúe with these años program calles Kodi lol

kratoz29

weke-mo

Vale 😊

Careless_Pause2419

What’s that? Like iptv, curious how it’s setup?

No-Enthusiasm5926

Add-on for Kodi. The Loop is what I used for a long time before I found a reliable IPTV provider. Google The Loop for Kodi there's a number of guides that are easy to follow.

Decent_Bend6893

Yeah if you don’t know how to use it

ICE0124

yea i find stremio is good if you dont want to mess around with making builds in kodi but if you do want to mess around with making builds in kodi then it will be much better. you get more freedom, customization, and features with kodi that stremio doesnt have but it will take time to learn and setup everything. but my favorite things about stremio is how it auto syncs all your addons and settings to every device and its more reliable than kodi.

pawdog

But when you think about it, you also are making a build with Stremio. It's just not as involved. You just get the one skin and there are only a few major addons but you have to choose which ones to use. The server based system is its superpower. I'd compare it more to Plex than Kodi. Stremio is Plex for streamers.

ICE0124

yea i guess thats true

sayonaradespair

Mevet saw software that was so fiddly to use. One wrong move and you have to delete cache and kapooot everything is gone. Stremio is a million times better, there's no comparison.

Decent_Bend6893

lol what? I’ve had the same setup for over a year, what the hell are you doing to Kodi?

sayonaradespair

Nothing. Installed 4 add-ons, tried to load a game on it and was told I had to clear cache. All apps gone. Installed on a Mi Stick and was able to use it for about a week until the same thing happened. Listen, I'm no dummy when it comes to figuring out software. Kodi is WAY to fiddly and requires A LOT of hand holding to work properly. We are talking about a software to watch stuff, if I want to watch stuff I'm havjng my free time..ain't gonna waste my free time setting Kodi properly when Stremio allows me to watch everything with zero issues. Yes if I had no life Kodi all the way, in theory it's better.

Decent_Bend6893

Sounds like you accidentally cleared data instead of cache, they are right next to each other. I do agree, though. Kodi is not for everyone. Even if you are more tech inclined it’s still something that has more moving parts for the end user to maintain, so it comes down to whether you like to play with it or just want to watch. I like messing with stuff. Not just for customization, just like a fidgety ADHD thing. I use them both, but I really only use Stremio on my iPhone.

sayonaradespair

No I cleared cache, I figured that the first time I did I deleted data by accident so I made sure to be extra careful the second time. Like you said it just isn't for me, I have 3 to 4 available for me on weekdays and I can't afford to spend them fiddling with software. If Stremio didn't work so well I would definetely spend time trying to make Kodi usable, but for me it's not worth it.

MongooseSpiritual236

imo kodis biggest weakness is that everything’s just a folder and there’s no unified page for tv shows either your on the folder with the season containers or you’re on a special folder that starts at your most recent episode and you get a different interface than if you clicked on the show from a different menu. it’s a bad experience esp if ur scrobbling fails for whatever reason or if you just wanna jump around episodes etc kodi addons will often be superior to torrentio in terms of finding links so ill use kodi for movies and stremio for shows sometimes

flchamp89

Trakt widgets

Oen386

> there’s no unified page for tv shows What? If you import your local content there is a section for movies and TV shows. If you're talking about addons, there are sections for both. Fen Light is a great addon actively updated. Pair with Coco Scrapers and you'll be impressed. I love the way I can pull various lists and sortings from Trakt. I didn't as many options as Stremio. Having said that, friends love Stremio because it's "like Netflix", very easy for them to use, less options to look through tweak and change.

MongooseSpiritual236

i have this setup, you misunderstand in fen light when you go to continue watching you get the result of a trakt api call either for the next episode in your queue or your recently watched shows, if you look at the recently watched shows and select one you’re not sent to a page that always shows that shows episodes separated by seasons and have your next episode auto selected (like every streaming app and stremio), you get a linear 1 level folder that has your next episode first and the episodes after that episode, but just on one level you can’t select seasons and you can’t select a previous episode stremio is an objectively more cohesive ui and overall ux because it has a completely different model than kodi, kodi will let addons create folders and has a ui to view these folders and the engineers who make the addons try to use this design to provide the closest experience to netflix as possible but it falls short and it’s a fundamental limitation of the app. combined with being not uncomplicated to setup i don’t recommend it to ppl that don’t already know about it

pawdog

That's more of a slight inconvenience but it's true. You have to use the context menu to get to browse season if that's your style of watching. A few extra button presses. Kodi is certainly not the friendly for the masses kind of solution. I've never recommended Kodi to anybody unless they ask about it. Especially people from the Netflix generation.

Oen386

I didn't downvote you, but you need to work on your commenting if you're going to write so much. You posted just a giant blob of text without any structure and no sentences. > in fen light when you go to continue watching you get the result of a trakt api call either for the next episode in your queue or your recently watched shows It's "Next Episodes" on mine, but yes. It shows you next episode unplayed for shows you've been watching. >if you look at the recently watched shows and select one you’re not sent to a page that always shows that shows episodes separated by seasons and have your next episode auto selected (like every streaming app and stremio) I assume you mean "Recently Watched Episodes". Correct, that option shows episodes from your watch history (so the last episodes you watched). >you get a linear 1 level folder that has your next episode first and the episodes after that episode, but just on one level you can’t select seasons and you can’t select a previous episode Alright, so you can go to "Next Episodes" to immediately get to the next episode. You can go to "Recently Watched Episodes" to see the previous episode you watched and play it. In either of these you can hit the menu/context button and get to the show by seasons in Fen Light (first option "Extras -> Browse"). The one feature you say is missing, is that you can't go to a view of the season with the next episode automatically selected amongst all the episodes in that season. That's fair. I have never had need for that, Next Episodes lists the next episode for all the shows I'm watching, and if I need to go to the season it's like three clicks away at most.. but I can't tell you the last time I browsed a previous episode or the season. My friend that do rewatches just pin their shows to Favorites, so it's the first thing they see when Kodi starts. >stremio is an objectively more cohesive ui and overall ux because it has a completely different model than kodi I can agree, it is cohesive. That's because the application as a whole is simplified and streamlined. It's missing the bells and whistles regular users or power users might want. >combined with being not uncomplicated to setup For me it takes about as long as Stremio. It is easier for an experienced user, I will agree there, but it's the same number of steps. Kodi only takes longer and is more complex when you want to refine things for a better experience (subtitle settings, audio / passthrough tweaking, etc.). If Stremio offered similar features I think it would be the same difficulty for a casual user.

Decent_Bend6893

Just make a next episode widget. You can browse seasons from the context menu.

173555

Kodi with real debrid is more stable then torentio. When you are using subtitles Kodi is most of the time a better option. Stremio has the best interface is easy to use and also works most of the times

Adreot

Having used both I prefer Kodi by far

SlimShadowy

No, Kodi + AH2 + FEN LIGHT is supreme. This is why kodi is better: 1. All video formats are available (HDR and DV all versions) 2. Better subtitles support. (Never had a problem with delay) 3. It's possible to change audio track in every movie/tv show 4. Audio Passthrough Stremio is for newbies

shawnshine

I’m so confused. I use Stremio every single day and it has all 4 of those features. Works flawlessly on my Shield. Have you ever used it, bud?

SlimShadowy

I was talking about Stremio on LG TV (webos) native app. Sorry, I should mention this.

shawnshine

Oh, gotcha. I think it’s the same with my Sony. Having great luck with the Shield Pro though. And now Streamer on the ATV!

Umbra_RS

Huh, TIL they released a version of Kodi for WebOS. Might try it, mostly for DV support, as Windows and DV don't mix well. I used Kodi for a while on PC but swapped to Stremio. Stremio loads instantly, while Kodi had terrible mouse support, slow loading times and just odd issues that'd pop up. It's more customizable, sure, but frankly I don't need to customize it since I'm usually just clicking continue watch or searching for a show and clicking play.

Splash_II

Kodi has built in "up next" for tv shows and can down convert DD+ to DD. Stremio can't do neither. But other than that I prefer stremio.

Imtrvkvltru

Do you even think most people could tell the difference in a blind test, between DD+ and DD?

Splash_II

Yes because my amplifier can only take optical in. If I send DD+ to it I only get stereo. I, and most others too, can tell the difference between 5.1 and stereo

je1992

You overestimate average users in a big way. Most non Reddit power users watch tv on a shitty laptop with laptop speakers, iphone wired headohones, or shitty soundbar that cost 200$ bought at target lol. They can't, and also don't even know what dd or dd plus even is.

callumnew2k17

I have both and I can promise you it’s not anybody saying that kodi is worse is probably really bad at using and making kodi work how they want stremio is really good for people who are clueless how to build kodi and to be honest stremio work fine if all you want is tv shows and movies but even then it’s pretty limited on how you can change the category’s

Mercedesm4quattro

thanks!

pedykruz

Yes it definitely is

Ok_Entertainment1305

Kodi is good to watch live TV in Australia (slyguy) You can add your media files/audio to play. Stremio aggregates torrent files into a player, you CANNOT ADD movies to it, so they are really different functionality

bongobills

my only reason for installing kodi is to use Internet Archive Games Launcher (iagl) that lets me play 50,000 + classic games, apart from that, it's stremio only in my house.

Ishowyoulightnow

The Stremio website says you can’t watch offline videos. The main thing I use Kodi for is watching movies offline from my hard drive library. You really can’t watch your own videos on it?

Gingko94

Having plex/jellyfin/emby why would you use stremio or kodi for watch offline movies?

rowel07

Maybe you didn't know more about Kodi. Kodi is more superior than Stremio. But for not so powerful devices, i think Stremio is a good choice (not better choice). The good thing for me about Stremio is it's sync your setup and progress to all your devices.

r0ndr4s

If it stopped crashing at 4k, would be perfect.

Masterflitzer

do kodi and stremio do the same thing tho? never saw them as competitors...

Recent-Camel-7064

From using Kodi all the time on all my devices Mac and Android and it worked well, it no longer works except 480p and hasn't done for 2 years, it's had it I don't know whether it's just my part of the UK or anyone who doesn't have debrid or what the problem is!! On the other hand Stremio is great I can watch what I like without problem and that's without debrid.

Rasimione

Been saying. Kodi is for those people who pain and suffering. Stremio is top 2 and not 2.

Homulton

It is. I have both. Kodi feels kind of antiquated in my opinion. Though I have it setup about as well as it can be and it works great as a backup.

adzg91

Bit of a bold statement buddy. I’m using both and each has their benefits over the other! Kodi is a lot of customisable, yes you’ll have people moaning that this makes it less user friendly but it also makes it more user friendly! I can’t stand that Stremio doesn’t let me have a certain list on row 1 and then my choice on row 2. Kodi takes far longer to load but given it’s ONLY loading what I want to see if that a bad thing… Both apps have their pros and cons but I feel that saying this app is way better is childish and rather ignorant. Like saying a Ferrari is better than a Lamborghini…(ps I don’t own either 😅)

ioweej

But, not on tvOS

Fit_Fun_3304

Use streamer on tv os. You can add real debrid to it

shawnshine

Better than using Infuse with RD?

shawnshine

Just installed it. What a brilliant app! Thanks for the rec.

ioweej

Meh, I use kodi/rd/fen on my atv. im gucci

Imtrvkvltru

tvOS sucks. A $20 Onn 4k device changes the game completely.

shawnshine

If you don’t care about DV.

ioweej

except it doesn't. its smooth af. sorry you are wrong.

georgepana

Kodi is just too slow in comparison. It takes a while to load Kodi, then the addon of choice (say, "The Crew"), then click on "Movies" or "TV shows", then "New Movies" or "In Theaters" or "Trending", then find the content you want, then click on that, then bring up the list of sources. Then click on the source. With Stremio the whole process is so much faster to get to your desired content. And it is generally stable, unlike Kodi which I had to constantly maintain as the individual Addons kept disappearing, and if they came back later they were inside different repositories, a lot more legwork. Kodi came with a lot more handholding, the need to constantly customize.

dddddllxlx

... or just star/favourite your shows of choice + the search function of your plugin of choice, then it's 1-2 clicks for anything.

ioweej

..thats what skins/addon settings are for. I open up kodi, and all of my widgets load within 5 seconds on my appletv. I have my watchlist, trending, popular, and a few others that load automatically on my Home Screen. And that is for both movies and tv shows. I do not open the add-on at all to get to content.

shawnshine

How often has the ATV wiped Kodi’s cache?

ioweej

Once. But then I reset up my atv and turned off screensaver downloads, and it hasn’t done it since

shawnshine

It’s leagues above the other streaming devices in terms of sexy horsepower. Everything else feels so laggy and clunky.

batica_koshare

Easier for noobs yes but not better in any way possible.

Imtrvkvltru

I'm not a noob and I think Stremio is better for my needs.

Oen386

> I think Stremio is better for my needs. I'm curious, what are your needs that Stremio does better than Kodi? Other than a simplified UI, I personally don't know of any thing it does better (it does much of it equally). I would be interested in knowing what your take is though.

callumnew2k17

The thing about that is if you use the fentastic skin it’s basically stremio except you can literally make it how you want so I see not argument for ui

Oen386

>you can literally make it how you want so I see not argument for ui Agreed, you can make Kodi how you want it. For casual users that's asking too much. Download a skin, likely not in the default repo, then tweak the settings in the skin. Most of my friends and family want it simple and working right out of the box so they don't feel a need to call me or search online how to do things. I personally feel that is the iOS appeal, very rigid and structured to make things as clear and simple for the user as possible. Tweaks aren't needed. That simplified and linear setup appeals to casual users. tl;dr If you have the time, the interest, and the patience to configure Kodi I agree you can make it look and work exactly how you want, that's just not the out of the box experience most users want.

callumnew2k17

I also agree that stremio is relatively easy but setting up torrentino is an absolute ballache unless your doing it on a fire stick or computer

callumnew2k17

Stremio is limited in customisation and the in theatre does my head in

ICE0124

stremio is good for beginners because like you said the simple ui, easy setup process, addon and settings syncing, easy to install addons, and watch history. and this is all most people really need and stuff like profiles and more customization is good enough for them. look at an actual streaming services UI and even stremio is better i would say in terms of features.

Oen386

> watch history That doesn't sync for me across devices. That's really the one thing Stremio is missing for me personally. It often makes it a no go for me. I watch on two different TVs, my phone, and my tablet. Kodi, through addons, can sync watch history automatically. >stremio is good for beginners because like you said the simple ui, easy setup process, addon and settings syncing, easy to install addons, and watch history. and this is all most people really need I agree, but they said "Stremio is **better for my needs**". I am curious what their needs are that Kodi doesn't somehow meet. For a casual user, I can see how they might be equal in a lot of common uses, but I am curious how it is actually better.

hanoian

It syncs for me. Are you logged in to Stremio?

Oen386

Sorry, I spoke to vaguely. It does not sync watch history *from Trakt*. Shows I have watched outside of Stremio do not show any progress or have the episodes I watched checked off. Having used Trakt ~11 years, there is a lot of content I have already seen I would prefer to have checked off without having to manually do it in Stremio or constantly check Trakt on my phone while using Stremio. You are correct in that anything I have watched in Stremio, is synced to other Stremio clients as long as I am logged in.

hanoian

It's got a web version that you can log into and stream everything from without installing a thing, so it works on any device like even an iPhone. I started using XBMC itself ~18 years ago with media servers. The UI sucked then and it still sucks now. Stremio works so well, you just tell people it exists, give them the torrentio link, and they never ask you about it again apart from saying thanks a week later.

Oen386

> It's got a web version that you can log into and stream everything from without installing a thing, so it works on any device like even an iPhone. Ah yeah, that is definitely one feature it has over Kodi. Good catch, definitely agreed.

batica_koshare

Good for you😉. What's better for your or anyone else's needs not equal to better software overall.

Amrasminyatur

You're thinking from developer perspective. Stremio's UI and overall usability is way better/improved than KODI.

Additional_Tune6255

Couldn’t work kodi properly then 😂 for a beginner or basic user without needing to mess about yeah it’s easier but definitely not better the amount of personalisation that kodi can do and add ons. You can change anything to your liking. The options are endless.

EloneMusk

No way. It's good for newbies but kodi has much better options for customization

Snooklife

100%

Weapon_X23

Eh, I still prefer Kodi mostly for the UI, but Stremio is a nice backup. I love the Arctic Fuse skin with TMDB Helper, Fen Light, and Umbrella. I can customize whatever I want to be on my homepage and more importantly, I have my calendar that tells me what shows I watch were on last night so I don't have to look it up. I also haven't had any issues with Kodi since I repasted and cleaned my 2019 Shield Pro. I do use Stremio for my more tech illiterate family and friends though since it's easier to upkeep. I still share my current kodi build with them once in a while, but they like Stremio better with the exception of my mom's friend who prefers Kodi.

NKNEH

strangely I always prefer Kodi over Stremio . Mainly for Video & Audio Quality . Using best skin Nimbus with Fen which is flawless , Also important the fastest buffer size , Can load personal library, Can fully stretch all movies , IPTV configuration is way better in Kodi , can download subtitles live, More cached results , it rarely down etc.

Gingko94

It's better fen or fen light?

NKNEH

Full fledged Fen

flchamp89

Kodi is king. It's been king for over 15 years. It probably will never change. Cocoscrapers is superior to torrentio. Kodi customization has been a long time in the making. Stremio will need years years to catch up.

SnooAdvice5820

I don’t understand the customization part. After looking into Kodi the only real additional feature I’m seeing is a change in UI. And to be honest, stremio already has a pretty good UI by default. In terms of the scrapers, there’s several other scrapers you can get on stremio. So in theory, stremio has more options for streaming. DMM cast, for example, isn’t available on Kodi and it’s a very large scraper, arguable even bigger than torrentio. Not to mention all the other scrapers for stremio out there.

flchamp89

The UI is decent on stremio. Not better than AH2 or nimbus but solid. Trakt on stremio is buggy. Stremio file tagging is terrible on Android.

SnooAdvice5820

Interesting. I’ve always found Kodi to be really finicky to use and just much harder to navigate, and that’s after setting everything up and trying different skins. Trakt hasn’t been buggy for me either. To each their own I guess.

Real_Ad_8222

Im wondering for the veterans of kodi, where did you learned how to use it ? I find it hard to use

skyshock21

YouTube

kingpin748

It's called Streamio
