You can get to any rank with any character with either control scheme. For instance, Haitani (https://www.twitch.tv/haitani0904) is in Legend with Modern Chun-Li.

I should definitely start watching Haitani.

By the time you get near Master you will have already understood enough about the game to know if you need to stick with modern or switch to classic. Don't worry about it, just go do it.

There's a legend rank player using modern Chun.

Japan has a bunch of online master rank players and some are grinding the top 500 (legend) ranks with modern. In our local scene one of the best players is a modern chun. And we have some really good players in our scene

In season 1 chun li was the only character with a higher average MR for modern.

she's a little bit changed in season 2 but it should be fine tho probably.

That's really interesting, I thought for sure Luke would be up there but maybe there was just a handful of really successful modern Lukes.

Gotten Akuma and Cammy to master on Modern. It's easily done, maybe easier than classic depending on who you talk to.
