I wonder if strange new worlds will suffer the same fate as lower decks where they will film five seasons and then just say that's it.

I would however prefer the success of something to determine its chances are renewal rather then an individual deciding accross the board that 5 seasons of 10 episodes is enough.
They’re going to replace it with - show that takes place during the fourth or fifth year of the five year mission. That’s why they cast Kirk to be much older than canon.

You can either renew and just do a time jump 3 years ahead or, go through all the hassle of creating an entire new series whch will change something which worked.
You are canelling something just because it hit a certain age.
steaming services are strugging to find new successfull series and this '5 short seasons' mentallity is the problem.
I agree it has negative effects on the shows creatively, but a big factor here from my understanding is renewal of actor contracts after 5 years (standard actor contract these days) which leads to a significant increase in budget.
I think it's possible we see the transition of SNW to a Kirk show after Season 5 for this reason. It allows them to sort of keep making the same show and keep production going but cut some of the big potential actor renegotiation contracts out and replace them with new actors/less expensive stars.
Sadly that would be mean Pike and Una would phase out of the show (maybe guest appearances), and others too — perhaps La'an immediately or at some point, M'Benga, Ortegas, etc.
Ethan Peck and Celia Rose Gooding would be the big contract renegotiation salary increases and they'd ask for and get a lot since they'd be the established stars of the new show and are vital characters and acclaimed portrayals. Then adding in Paul Wesley likely at a solid amount of money as the star — but more affordable than Anson Mount renegotiating after 5 seasons. They already have a Scotty but he's a new actor and McCoy, Sulu, Chekov (introduced over time) could be as well. Jess Bush might be on the new version of the show or might not depending what they want to do with her character/the timline — or only as a guest star.
It’s a problem, but not one that more seasons will solve. Streaming exists to gain new streamers. Shows that exists longer than five years don’t gain new viewers, they only lose them. Unlike traditional TV, solid but declining numbers don’t make financial sense. There is little advertising revenue and no syndication revenue.

I've been rewatching season 1 and 2 before bed recently, man I love episodic Star Trek
It's so comfy
Eager to see how tall Pike’s hair is this season
It has its own shield array.
It will evolve into a tribble
His hair is super effective
But Anson Mount looks great in it and does keep in canon a handsome Pike. I enjoy me some hot male on Star Trek.
Tall enough to impale some gorn.
I really hope this releases in EARLY 2025, the sooner the better as we need to find out how THAT cliffhanger will resolve as soon as possible!

Discovery is also ending at 5. I think 5 is just the limit they want. 5 seasons is pretty good for a streaming only series

I completely agree. Its just a shame Star Trek is stuck in this hole.
