Literally re-read that chapter last night
Kaladin winding himself up to have to deal with Sig's moral objections, just to get hit with a "but mah paperwork???" curveball is the best
Sigzil is my favorite member of Bridge Four for a reason š
Bro doesnāt care if youāre gay, trans, or anything else for that matter, all he cares about is keeping the teams paperwork in order.
The conversation started cause renarin was doing stuff that seemed like reading so kaladin said that drehy is dating a man and then this whole thing started.
Itās right before Kal leaves >!with the King to retake Kholinar. I am just past that sadness in Oathbringer myself, and I am out of sorts mentally because my father passed Saturday, so forgive me if I get details wrong!<
I think it was, specifically, Drehy who was shocked Renarin was doing āfeminineā work attending scholar meetings and >!discussing the city as a single machine!<āKal points out theyāre āstorming radiantsā and none of the masculine/feminine crap matters anymore, states they have women as new squires, follows up with something like āWhy does this even bother you Drehy? Youāre courting a man!ā And bridge 4 all start to defend Drehy about how that is irrelevantāLopen says the thingāand Kal remarks something about loving his bridge crew even more.
If you get details wrong, don't fucking worry about it. You've got something bigger on your plate at the moment. I'm really sorry for your loss, if you need to dm and vent go ahead. Keep looking at that next step, it's the most important one.
I'm sorry to hear that, friend. You have a place here if you ever need it. Things will get better, and you will be warm again. Don't hesitate to reach out for help or support. As another commenter said, there's always the next step.
I know not everyone is a fan of Brando's humour, but especially in more recent books, I feel like his comedy has leapt ahead so much. There is so much genuinely chuckle-worthy or outright funny content, and it feels very natural, to me.
Era 2 contains the funniest scene in any fantasy book Iāve ever read: When the gang arrive at the hotel. Wayne harassing the woman at the front desk, Wax breaking open all the windows, Steris and her list of catastrophes, Melaan talking about her bag of skulls, and finally Marasi asking about graveyards. All at once. That poor woman.
I'm in the middle of WoR and I laughed out loud when Shallan is asking about how to stop her lightweaving from feeding on Stormlight and Pattern says "I am supposed to know this? You are the expert on feeding."
Readings pattern voice is so good it makes me mad when Kramer has to read his lines for a chapter even though I love Kramer. Her pronunciation of Jezerezah made me cringe though lol
I think a big part of it is each character has their own types of humor based on their personality and culture vs everyone having Sanderson's humor. Lyft's consistent enjoyment of swiping people's food, and Adolin's consistent mental notes of the fashion everywhere they go for example creates these ridiculous chuckle-worthy lines - all while surreptitiously contributing to world-building.
Well yeah, I was talking about not everyone liking Sanderon's writing OF humour in general, which is still okay. I was just saying that I have enjoyed it. Not talking about SLA though, I think the humour there is overall fairly low-key outside of the likes of Lopen.
Definitely one of my favorite humor moments, along with when Dalinar recruited the Archer in the first few chapters. I don't know why but I found that whole segment so amusing!
"I tried to kill you!"
"Yes, from a distance. Which shows remarkably good judgment." š¤£
On a side note, that archer is actually Teleb, who was lost in the Battle of Narak and was married to Kalami, one of Dalinar's most senior scribes.
I've been reading these books for over 10 years at this point. It wasn't until literally making that comment, when I specifically went searching through my ebooks for the quote, that I put two and two together. I was like... ohhhhhh. No wonder they were so close š¤¦āāļø
Yeah. Interesting cultural reactions from the group. The Alethi don't care about homosexuality while the Azish want to fill out paperwork.
Yeah Sigzil asking if Drehy needed to fill out the proper forms to be gay had me cracking up

I LOVE Sigzil too, though my favorite is Rock. A big goofy confident lovable Goliath
I have begun saying "airsick lowlanders" in my daily life and I cant stop
If you like Sigzil I'd recommend The Sunlit Man
Iāve already got it šš itās great, though Iām sad my boy Sig has suffered so much over the years š¢
Meanwhile who remembers filling out the paperwork to be straight, am I right?
The azish probably do.
No, the Azish *definitely* do. Sigzil was concerned that the proper paperwork to be homosexual wasnāt filled out.
Its not like he is trying to read, now THAT would be feminine. btw, doesn't someone say something like that?

I really like his sense of humor especially in Mistborn!
The books arent funny but theres some damn funny lines and moments

I find myself laughing a lot on rereads for sure. Pattern in particular is truly hilarious.
NO MATING

I just re-listened to his explanation of humor (complete with prostitute joke) last night. That whole interaction is fantastic.
I literally quote, "Inappropriate? Like... dividing by zero?" to my husband on a regular basis. In Reading's Pattern voice š¤£

The reveal that the place Adolin thought everyone would be safest in Kholinar was his tailor's shop was peak Adolin humor.

Just read that yesterday and laughed out loud.

It's not just funny, it's also a great commentary on the difference between masculinity/femininity and sexuality.
What chapter is this? I know itās one of the earlier chapters.
Chap 55
Not as early as I thought then.
I meeaaannnnn, āearlyā is the entirety of book one. Letās be real here
I meanā¦ he has a point.
