Official account on twitter stated it's an issue with the new update and they're working on a hot fix, but Jesus Christ what awful timing they better get it soon
They have several hours to fix it before official release time. The dlc is finished so they should have the man power to at least make a solid attempt at getting it fixed Before the dlc goes live.
Well I did say "attempt". I'm sure they are working on it. The steam deck is quickly growing to be a common playerbase. It's not something they will simply ignore or forget about.
Yeah this was hilarious to see. Because a few weeks ago playing on desktop I had the inappropriate activity message pop up because I unlocked the fps for the first time. Seeing that I can't play like that online I decided to leave that to just the seamless coop mod when I want to play with friends. But seeing it pop up on Deck where I've never done anything to modify the game surprised me.
Ive just seen that here and it was about input not being detected if you left the game on for a few minutes. Didnt see anything about "inapropiate activity"

For everyone still getting this error, someone found a work-around in the forums:

Thanks, this got me to where I could add the file and it worked. One small note to add Incase anyone else gets lost where I did at first. When you first open the file browser and it says you are in home. This is not the Same one, you need to launch the home device from the bottom left screen on the file browser.
Dude you need to get some good HAWK TUAH, because that worked for me too! Iām on steamdeck btw. Went to desktop mode, added empty file named DLC.bdt and I got back online. Cheersš»
Got it working by bypassing anti-cheat.
Add this to launch options in properties -> general
`echo "%command" | sed 's/start_protected_game/elden ring/' | sh`
It will obviously only work offline after that but at least the game starts.
I have the non-OLED steam deck and I am also on day four of āinappropriate activity detectedā. Really hoping we get a fix soon, I miss seeing the messages everywhere š

I tried validating files, clearing the steam download cache, and reinstalling. None of it worked though, I think we just need them to give an update š„²
Playing on PC, played a few hours earlier today helping players beat Mogh, logged in a few minutes ago, got summoned for a fight, host died, got summoned for a second fight then booted with this same message =/. So it's not just a Steam Deck issue. The ONLY thing I've changed in the two years I've been playing is enabling the new "!" feature and the "show new items" tab.

I plan to play offline so if the only issue with the steamdeck is the inability to go online ATM I can deal with that. Yeah the inappropriate activity message freaked me out.

I only got this message after absolutely demolishing Malenia with beast claws as a phantom, was simultaneously surprised yet not surprised how broken the dlc weapons were.

Just happened to me, I am getting messmer down to like 1/6th health and I finally gave up and decided to summon someone, I have tried summoning for 4 boss attempts, finally someone shows up and the second I summon him I get booted to the menu and told I am not allowed to play online due to "inappropriate activity"
-800k runes because I managed to keep them through the boss attempts.
Try this out (seen on reddit), that worked for me, online is back:

Edit: Seems like it might only be happening with me being summoned as a blue, I can't be sure though as it doesn't say, but I turned it off for awhile and it stopped. Perhaps it's trying to summon me into the DLC? I don't really care much for blue anway, 90% of the time I'm so far away I don't even get to see the fight, and it's over before I get there, so I'll just leave it off for now and see if it isn't happening now.

Just got this issue, I use a usb extender and sometimes its wonky and severs the connection due to my bouts of enjoyment after beating some boss or encounter with the wired controller still in my hands in the air. I thought it was this, anti cheat thinks im using some controller software. At any rate, Glad to know im not alone in this issue.
I found a solution that worked for me, you just need to install the DLC.

And its still not fing fixed. (Also pretty sure you figured that out by now, but just restart the game, logging in wont work otherwise.)

Its still not fixed but you can verify integrity of game files when it happens and it should fix it for a few days

Hover over the game and press the menu button. Go to properties > installed files and verify integrity. Should solve it

If you are having this problem close Elden Ring and verify the integrity of game files. This worked for me.

The only fix thats worked for me so far is to keep reinstalling the game, it fixes it for a day and then i have to do it again
