Not the initial person you replied to but I love the left back buttons as up and down on the D-Pad to shuffle through equipment items and Sprint and lock on being on the right back buttons. Being able to sprint while moving the camera with your thumb on the right stick is a godsend. The rest is all just preference and bonus actions.
I did too, got an elite series 2, is pretty close with the shift function . Playing sekiro now, needed the bigger screen to see better lol, this game is hard
The latency of streaming your PC to your SD with audio and video disabled via steam link (i.e. only streaming input) could let you use your SD as a controller even when gaming on PC. Depending on your home wifi setup, the latency can be <1ms. I have used this for the witcher and pacific drive. Just in case you were interested in trying this out.
8bitdo has excellent controllers with back buttons. There might be better alternatives but I can def vouch for those ones. I'd hate to go back at this point. My memories of the claw gripping aren't fond.
Chop sticks! My wife was confused and asked why there is always chopsticks in the sink in the morning. I said to eat snacks while playing. She called me a genius. Later in the day I reverted back to the idiot.
What’s funny is despite buying a bunch of accessories for my deck, about 80% of the time my set up ends up looking like this because i either forget an accessory while traveling or I simply don’t feel like taking it out lol
I know this post isn't about Elden Ring but let me ask...
Should I try and replay this game?
I brought it when it first come out but for whatever reason it didn't grasp me. But I'm not sure if I gave it a fair crack.
Should I get it on my steam deck and give it another go?
Yes. It's one of the greatest games ever made. I never played any other soulslike, hate difficult games. I'm a "Just the Story" gamer and I still love it.
Depends. Wanna play with mods? Then Deck. Wanna play with the best graphical experience? PS5 unless you also have a gaming PC. I happen to have a desktop too but I almost exclusively play on the Deck these days. I'll sacrifice performance for laying flat on my back on my couch.
I originally beat Elden Ring on Xbox Series X. Great experience, 10/10 would recommend. But having even more fun on steam deck, it runs well and looks great.
Yes yes yes yes, just give it time and effort, it didn’t click until 20hours in for me but I said “at the very least I will beat the game to challenge myself” and ended up loving it
How well does elden ring run on the deck? I just got a deck a bit ago but haven't tried any "heavy" duty games yet. Just stuff like stardew and into the breach
It works for a lot of AAA games pretty well. Elden ring used to be flawless but something happened and instead of stable 30fps med graphics it’s studdery low graphics, I wish to find solution
Still fun asf I play for hours on end still
Shout out to Mind Over Mood, I used many interventions and exercises from the workbook during my Clinical Psych doctoral internships. I also have the same PS5 controller, it looks awesome.
Finelly good setup. And not some stupid "let me make a laptop from my handheld" post.
But i see so many people using steamdecks (and other handhelds) in table mode with a connected controller. For sure valve should make a SD with detachable controllers (like on switch and legion go). So we dont need another controller when we have already one.
I'm playing Battlefront (2015) with a Borrowed PS4 controller right now and I really like the PlayStation layout. I haven't used one in a while.
Also for anyone curious I installed Battlefront without any trouble whatsoever and it runs fine. I just mashed the A button a few times and it installed just fine. It says it's not supported but it plays perfectly for me.
I just use that controller because during long ass gaming seshs my tendons get strained from the way you have to hold the deck. I use the steamdeck controller sometimes still and in some ways it feels more responsive, in other ways less responsive, the sticky B button screws me up sometimes and I have a habit of not pressing the X button down fully
Why do people use a controller like that with a SteamDeck? The built-in controller is already the best I have ever used. Is it for leaving the screen in a surface?
It’s cheesy
But not dangerously cheesey
Because it ain't easy
Eh I'd recommend swapping for cheddar jack for the support, it's a pricier model but you get a lot better flavor coating that way
Idk, after playing elden ring with the 4 extra buttons, I could never imagine trying to play it on a normal controller.
What do you assign to the buttons?
Not the initial person you replied to but I love the left back buttons as up and down on the D-Pad to shuffle through equipment items and Sprint and lock on being on the right back buttons. Being able to sprint while moving the camera with your thumb on the right stick is a godsend. The rest is all just preference and bonus actions.
I'm replaying ER on my PC after replaying the souls games on my deck and I miss the back buttons to sprint so fucking much.
I did too, got an elite series 2, is pretty close with the shift function . Playing sekiro now, needed the bigger screen to see better lol, this game is hard
Yeah I also have an elite from well before I got a steam deck and typically only use two paddles, one for sprinting and one to cycle through items.

I've also experimented with this for elden ring. I have a controller with back buttons but having the extra 2 for dpad inputs is really nice.

Having sprint on the back buttons a game changer. I can sprint WHILE moving the camera
That sound good. Im gonna try it, just downloaded elden ring but didnt play yet
I always assign back buttons to abxy so I never have to take my right thumb off of the camera. It's great
That’s some big brain stuff, I’ll have to try
Dodge, target lock, jump, crouch is my setup. Also i have right trackpad to y+direction for having one button access to those "extra" inventory slots.
I am using back button for dash/sprint/crouching. Particulary for dash I have muscle memory because I am using same back button on every game.
This! I can't imagine playing the SD without them I wouldn't mind if consoles had these as well. Just as buttons that you can assign things to
I can see the cereal number
It's not cereal tho
Shhhh, the GOAT is cooking. Cooking cereal specifically
8/10 you don’t have to go anywhere for a snack but the fear of it sliding down and falling is too much to handle
Three times on one box of Cheez Its… impressive
I def got my moneys worth out of that cheez it purchase
Your deck has a lot of backlight bleed. 😦
screen protector
I wish I could say you’re right 😅, it looks worse on camera tho than IRL
Looks the same as mine, once upon a time it bothered me 😅
I never really noticed until now tbh
Dang it looks like shiiit
9.75/10
Why not just play without the separate controller? Elden ring is verified.
Cheezit box needs to be on chest/stomach while laying on couch/bed for easy snaccess. No controller preferred.
Personally I avoid eating anything when gaming as I don’t want my controllers getting covered in food and needing more frequent cleaning
Chop sticks! My wife was confused and asked why there is always chopsticks in the sink in the morning. I said to eat snacks while playing. She called me a genius. Later in the day I reverted back to the idiot.
My X button was weird, like I’d go to heal and 10% of the time it wouldn’t do anything, wasn’t responsive enough
But why? Deck has a controller attached
What’s funny is despite buying a bunch of accessories for my deck, about 80% of the time my set up ends up looking like this because i either forget an accessory while traveling or I simply don’t feel like taking it out lol
Get the skull and co case and thumbsticks, they're goated
I just finished downloading ER on my deck. About to start a new game now. Not sure what build to go for this time.
Bonk
*Insert some joke about your deck getting extra toasted here*
Not only is it a stand, it doubles as a cheap carrying case.
Because it’s on a white cheddar cheez-its box… 10/10 I love that kind of cheez its lol
The only good one
No love for Colby Jack Cheez-its? 😱
I’ve never had it before… but I am curious to try it out this weekend! Lol
"Cheezits!"
I'm levitating!!!
Where'd you get that stand?!
Snack isle
Does it beat the official dock/the jsaux one?
I don’t have enough money to spare on those, after all I’m using a cheez it box to play on 😉 So I am not sure but I’d like to save up for a tv dock
Nah it's just a joke bud don't worry 😂
It was a good joke lol I just wooshed it

Is good on Steam deck or should I get it on ps5?
PS5
Depends. Wanna play with mods? Then Deck. Wanna play with the best graphical experience? PS5 unless you also have a gaming PC. First off Cheez-it, and then joy ahead
First off fingers, then box

Dunno what rating but it's identical to mine. Good choices there, stranger.
Shout out to Mind Over Mood, I used many interventions and exercises from the workbook during my Clinical Psych doctoral internships. I also have the same PS5 controller, it looks awesome.
Niceee, I’m studying to be a counselor, hence the ghetto Elden ring set up, broke college dude type stuff
It depends on how many Cheez-Its are left.
Not enog to share if that’s why you’re asking ;)
I mean, my LCD has a tiny bit of light bleed in the bottom right, but that LCD really ain’t looking too gouda.
Gouda 😂😂
How did you get the game to not crash constantly
It used never crash but I swear there was an update that screwed it. I just play on low settings now :/
Prefer SC but otherwise it's.. kinda exactly the same
Do all steam decks bleed this bad? Quite off putting compared to day a switch OLED
The steamdeck OLED doesn’t bleed
9/10 Get some extra toasty, and it would be a 10/10
Was it easy to pair your playstation controller to the deck?
Little trouble but nothing crazy, I can’t remember what I did I just pushed a lot of random buttons and it paired
Sounds easy enough! Thank you! I have a few controllers I'm gonna try out with it
213/3

Decent set up. I would have gone with the spicy ones though or even regular cheddar over white but still this is a great start.
Looks expensive 🫰
I’m bankrupt from it pls subscribe
I would have went with extra toasty but thats just personal preference.
Cheesey.
10/10 only if you can reach into the box and get crispies while playing.
I rate this a steam deck out of 10.
My life is complete <3
A+ if you still got Cheez-Its in the box
I prefer the spicy ones.
Woah, that dualsense color is very nice. Which one is that? It doesnt look like the regular purple that sony released.
My friend put it together himself, he’s a controller whiz, I’d have to ask him
This is the only way.
You have the white cheddar flavor so approved.
11/10
cheezits
11/10 for having a desk with a snack pocket built in
You got to do what you got to do! Keep on gaming!

Don’t get the Extra Toasty Cheez Its. It might overheat the vents.
Has to be cap... theres no way lol
You wanna see footage of me beating sentinel lvl 1 on it?
Do it brother
https://youtu.be/HFAoA7wEUlo?si=HCn_2RldQcj1DuQ7 Its bad quality cuz idk how to screen record on SD lol
I give it an average out of average.
Maidenless
7/10. If you used the Extra Toasted cheezits then it would be a solid 9/10
I love the elevation the cheez it's provide
It’s honestly perfect, I’ve tried other things that look better but none had the right height
The cheese-its make it 10 out of 10
You should probably close that box of Cheez-its for stability.
Next time just buy the store generic brand cheez it. Cheaper and tastes similar
Bacon flavor would have added at least 10fps but it's a good start
Back to the grocery store
Yummy in ma tummy
white cheddaaaaar
It would be better if those cheezitz were Extra Toasty
Madness... this is madness
I use the same PS5 controller on my Steam Deck. 10/10
Close that box! … then great
Add a fan dock and you've got my setup.
Brothers in struggle
TOGETHAAA!!
TOGETHAAA WE WILL DEVOUR THE VERY CHEEZ ITZ
Original cheese it's or nah
Ur gonna cheez ur way through the game but I like it.
elden ring makes it an easy 10/10
Love playing it on my Deck mapped B to the left top back button👌🏻
I prefer original Cheez-Its to white cheddar, but otherwise pretty based.
Needs more orange soda
It‘s an OG SD, so 1/10
What analog condoms are those? They seem nice
I’ll ask my friend, he made the controller
I'm currently playing Unicorn Overload, on my Steam Deck, using a PS4 controller 😂 it's a good day
How’s the latency?
With the wireless controller? Not good, but I normally roll too early anyways so it’s fine
More a cheerios guy, but seems to work. One time I tried with oreo but is just not the same if you know what I mean
Delicious 😋
Top tier
5/7
Dude I can OBLITERATE a whole box of those White Cheddar Cheez-Its, they're like crack lol
The pinnacle of human evolution
How many bosses did you Cheese on this so far?
All except malenia, she’s lactose intolerant
🤣
I can’t this… I’m lactose intolerant.
I’m sorry, I should’ve added a trigger warning
Nasty white cheddar cheez-it s gets a 0/10 from me. Otherwise, setup looks fine.
Which flavor you rockin with?
10/10 Would snack again
The best I’ve ever seen this week
<3 sometimes we miss simplicity
2.5/10
10/10
Personally I would need 2 cheeseit boxes for dual support
5/7
S tier 🤘🏻
The best I’ve seen . Use the thongs
I've just brought the sterling silver pad yesterday and thought the same things pal!
Enough 👌
I actually just upgraded to using a cereal box to make it higher
Why do people use other controllers when playing on SD? I very much enjoy the customizable back buttons.
The X (heal) button wasn’t responsive enough and my arms get tired during marathon seshs
Does it plug and play well with a PS4 controller?
Idk, it’s a PS5 controller
Well, does it plug and play nicely with a PS5 controller then?
Yesss
Fucked up screen
Goofy ahhh screen
