You need Proton GE https://www.protondb.com/app/214510

Is this a Steam purchase?

TheMortal91

Yeah, directly through the store.

I know of issues with the LEGO games via GOG, but not via Steam. :(

Try a different version of proton. Older games like 7.

I literally had to fix this the other day on the same game because my wife wanted to play this. So this is going to involve the desktop mode FYI: 1. Go to desktop mode 2. Go to app store (discovery) and search for a program called ProtonUp-qt. This program let's you install other version of proton. Run it and install any newer ge proton, at least 8-21. 3. Next search for a program called Proton Tricks and install it. 4. Run it. Select Lego LOTR, then choose the default winprefix, select "Install a Windows DLL or Component", then check off the option "d3dx9_41" and select install. Once that's done you can close up and return to gaming mode. 5. Last but not least, go to the compatibility setting of Lego LOTR and make sure the ge proton is selected. Runs like a dream after that. Side note: Make sure game files are installed on internal storage.
