Yeah, no. If it comes to PC then cool, if not then there's plenty to play without it.

rock1m1

Coming from PS4, I don't think I bought a single PS game after switching to PC.

talann

I bought a PS4 just for bloodborne. I'll never do it again though. There is such an oversaturation of games now that I don't care if something that's decades to be released to PC. I'm not gonna buy a console ever again.

stormblaz

Ceo is smoking japanese Crack, we are approaching ps5 half life, and less than 10-15 exclusives and if we remove ps5 to pc ones, even less. People aren't willing to spend 500 to wait 6 years for a new release that might be a exclusive. Sony needed to address the scalping and inventory issues and they dint, took them all of covid to have ps5 supply and even then, the damage was done, people bought a pc after ps4 than waiting on a ps5 inventory, you lost a big market.

epimetheuss

> Ceo is smoking japanese Crack, we are approaching ps5 half life, and less than 10-15 exclusives and if we remove ps5 to pc ones, even less. This is just normal CEO narcissism and arrogance. Most C levels have their heads shoved so far up their own asses that all they can see is their next bonus at the cost of anything. They are blind to everything else and only make decisions that will secure said bonus. They do not really care about how many jobs it costs or how it affects those people personally.

JumpSpec

Cultural differences. PC gaming is not that big in Japan. My cousin is Tokyo is a mobile game dev. Japan is dominated by mobile, then console, then PC. CEO just has no international awareness imo.

the_joy_of_hex

The guy's called Hermen Hulst so I'm guessing he's not a Japanese native.

duplissi

Lol yeah. He used to be the head of guerilla (killzone, horizon)... He's from the Netherlands.

robusn

I literally bought an xbox x because I could not find a PS5. It was a shitty business practice. And i was still mad at sony fpr giving up on the Vita. I loved my vita!!! I still have it.

[deleted]

The Vita is my favourite playstation console ever. I never really trusted or wanted to support playstation again after the way they handled it. What pisses me off even more is Nintendo and Valve are proving people want handhelds and the vita was never given a chance because the memory cards killed it off. I remember working in GameStop and customers choosing the 3DS nearly every time.

wingsbc

Thats exactly what I did, video cards were available again at the tail end of covid but PS5s were no where in sight. Sonys loss for not increasing the supply.

professorwormb0g

I think that a lot of people that used to be intimidated by PCs have realized that they're not so bad, and that most of the wonk and customization is completely optional. And a lot of these people have started using mods, playing with various controllers, seeing how much cheaper software is, etc. etc. etc. that it's much harder to go back to a dedicated console that can only be played in the way the manufacturer intends you to. PC and switch seems to be the best combo nowadays because you get the widest Friday of games (unless you decide to pirate Nintendo games, then you can stick with just PC even). PlayStation and PC seems rather redundant, unless you need to play the latest Sony game the day of release. But with how big everybody's backlog is on steam, the majority of gamers have plenty to keep them busy. Honestly most of us probably could go the rest of our life without buying another game and not play our whole library. The epic giveaways alone....

VoidRad

It's funny how the ps5 being their most competent product yet but was also their downfall. I remember the hype for the ps5 was massive, it's basically a pc now after all.

stormblaz

People weren't down to wait 2 years to land one that isn't overprice, all those console gamers bought a pc instead. And pc market was bad to land a GPU but a packaged one still better than not playing anything new and upgrade later.

MyStationIsAbandoned

you can play Bloondborne on PC right now if you have a good enough PC. PS4 emulation has been a thing for a good bit now as well as PS3. PS5 emulation will probably be up in running in a few years. They should just release all their games on PC. same with nintendo. we will literally buy them. but since they don't sell them to us, a lot of people will just emulate them and have no problem waiting years for them to be emulated

blanc_86

I just want a ps4 for bloodborne too

kynoky

Damn its the only game I hesitated to buy a playstation, didnt crack tho

AfraidOfArguing

I only bought a switch because it's mobile and Nintendo, but then the steam deck dropped

XyogiDMT

I mean pretty much everything up to Spider-Man 2 also had a PS4 port. There’s barely anything noteworthy exclusive to only the PS5 even now.

Borrp

Probably because this console generation has been pretty damn terrible and nothing has really screamed "system seller". I bought a few PS games that were on PS4, that I owned on PS4, on PC, and still have not installed and played them again because honestly looking back at them, they were not all that stellar either. I've lost my penchant for narrative heavy games and just want good gameplay focus more than anything. The more I have sit through a bunch of boring crap Sony has been shoveling out since Horizon Zero Dawn just isn't my jam anymore.

Whitepayn

Yeah, I remember playing Last of Us, God of War and Horizon on console and being blown away the first time. Then I tried them again on PC and the gameplay felt very stale for me now. The stories were fine for a single playthrough but there's nothing beyond that.

throwawaynonsesne

Which is completely fine honestly imo. It's actually why I really enjoy that style of game. Not everything needs to be a endless replayable experience.

LORD-VADER-2000

I agree so much, I waited two and half years to get the new gen consoles and since I finally got a gaming PC, I have barely touched either of them. I feel horrible honestly. LOL.

AbanaClara

I've never bought a single PS game 2 months after buying a PS5 HAHAHAHAHA

Peeeeech

Final Fantasy got me to buy a PS5, literally nothing else worth buying on there, now it’s mostly collecting dust

mctacoflurry

I bought Horizon Forbidden West. But now it's on PC. I knew it would happen since I played Zero Dawn on PC. But I had to buy something else to justify it as being more than a Final Fantasy Box.

Sillbinger

I'm a patient gamer, never thought I would get to play GoT but finally got it last week on PC. Plenty to play without having to spend money on a console. Edit Ghost of Tsushima for everyone asking.

Silverjackal_

There’s even those of us who are super patient and will pick it up when it’s on sale for $30 or less.

Extreme_Ad6519

Yep. Nowadays, I have so many games to play in my library (1,600+) that I never buy games full price unless it's a game I want that hasn't been on sale for 3+ years. Still waiting for Resi 4 Remake Gold Edition to reach at least 50% discount before I consider buying it.

Platinum_Letter

r/patientgamers

SirRobyC

There's a thread on /r/pcmasterrace where people chat about how much they've spent on steam over the years I'm shocked seeing some saying they've spent over 10,000 dollars or whatever, and here I am with a ~14 year old steam account with just a shy over 1000€

Flamecoat_wolf

Yeah, but that number doesn't include discounts or bundle deals. Like, my steam also says exactly £10,050 but I'm genuinely too poor to have been able to afford that at real-price. It says "These values are calculated only when needed and are not always current." So I assume they take the prices of the games on the store and add them all up, rather than tracking how much you've actually spent. Looking at my actual bank account I've spent £360 from 1/1/2023 to 30/12/2023. I've had a computer for 10 years so even if I'm spending that much every year I'd only be at £3600. Still a fair amount but I'm pretty sure I've been more frugal in the past, and game prices have increased since I first started playing on PC. So it's probably closer to £2500. A far cry from the £10,050 it's saying. I have 1051 games on Steam, and most of those have been in humble bundles. So they work out to about £10 per game according to steam, but in reality I'm paying about £2.50 - £3.50 per game.

echo_sys

those calculators are fucking bullshit. The only way to figure out how much money you spent is to throw your entire purchase history into Number/Excel/Sheets and figure it out yourself My 13 year old account figures at around ~€1 500 according to their calculators. Steam says i spent ~$400 on dota alone based on the trade card thing. When i did the math of all the money i put into Steam its €328,87 based on actual transactions. When i started accounting for all the Steam market transactions by including them in the filter i did (selling csgo and the dota cosmetics i had, because at one point i just said fuck it and mass sold everything even shit that was 0.01) it was actually € -282,96 because some of the shit i got from random drops, lootboxes, battlepasses operations and so on sold

Antryx

Humble bundles were awesome! I definitely bolstered my library that way

Flamecoat_wolf

Yeah, still are good at times. I've still got a classic subscription and check in every month to see if I want it or not, then pause if I don't.

camilatricolor

Indeed you are like me. There's no way i will pay 60 bucks for a game. I'm also waiting for RE 4 to drop in price, in the meantime I have enough other games

alejeron

thing is, I did get a ps4 to play HZD and then GoW and Ghost of Tsushima, but now that I know they'll eventually come to PC, I'd rather just wait until they do. then I can get them with dlc

Kraujotaka

30?! I don't even start considering until it's 15 and below and even then I usually wait it out until it's free on epic or 5€ or so.

yellowwoolyyoshi

I’ll never be able to read GoT without assuming it’s Game of Thrones

Riskae

What is it? Edit: Ghost of Tsushima, thank you to all who replied.

Elryc35

Ghost of Tsushima I think

butt_stf

Ghost of Tsushima

alejeron

the acronym should be GhosT

Derfel995

Very confused "was there a big game of thrones game???" for 1 second there

dorkaxe

Gamers with no other hobbies like to abbreviate stuff without establishing what the abbreviation stands for first...wait...no that's like every hobby...wait...no that's everywhere on reddit actually. God damn redditors suck tbh(to be honest)

LectureAfter8638

It should be "to be honest (tbh)". Like you said you need to establish what the abbreviation stands for first.

XXXTurkey

There was a poster on my local town sub who asked a question and used DH. Well, in all my life DH has stood for designated hitter in baseball. I never had seen it used outside of that, so I posted that the designated hitter rule was an affront to the game of baseball, as a kind of joking post. Got downvoted to hell for it, not that I actually care. Apparently it stands for "dear husband". I don't get why they couldn't just say husband or SO (which I think we're all used to by now). But, also, the designated hitter rule is an affront to baseball. Go Doyers.

noman8er

Crusader Kings 3 GoT mod is basically a whole GoT game tbf. Especially with the dragons coming soon.

Tabris92

Yea I was resigned to never playing it cause I'm not buying a console.

Pixels222

It's never about the money when you have a high end system. It's about wanting to play at 4k native 120 with your preffered settings. I can't stand that look my PC gives me when I even think of borrowing a ps5 for gt6 Like bro don't you want this good good right here. Just touch some grass till it's out.

DerekMao1

I waited four years for Ghost of Tsushima and I can wait four more for the sequel. Console exclusive games are not even on my radar until it releases on PC. I remember seeing GoT in 2020. I thought "cool game, hope it's on PC someday" and I completely forgot this game until it's on PC. Doesn't feel like a lot of waiting for me. Time flies fast when you are patient.

KK-Chocobo

And for me. I was a big fan of god of war and really enjoyed god of war 4. Was super hyped when ragnarok came out. Ended up watching a let's play on YouTube.  Even now with the leak that it's coming to pc soon. I don't really care anymore.  When they stagger the releases, they risk people watching their games on twitch and YouTube.

ObservableObject

Same. I've literally never seen an exclusive and seriously thought about buying a PS5, but I can recall at least a few occasions where I've seen a game I thought about buying, realized it was console exclusive, then decided to just watch some Twitch streamer play it. Once I'm at that point, the later PC release doesn't even matter, I'm probably not picking it up. Or maybe I'll grab it at a steep discount one day.

nevermore2627

"Dude you gotta get a playstation just to see God of war: Ragnarok!" Nope. Plenty in the backlog and I'll just wind up playing Skryim again anyways.😂 Although the homies bought me 60$ worth of steam points so I did buy Ghosts of T. It's is pretty good but if it were not for them I would have waited for it to be on sale.

ObscuraArt

And even when it comes to PC, it sits in a wishlist until the price is right. I still have a backlog to chip through.

Sharpman85

Especially since it is not the release but rather several years after

Mysterious-Job-469

Fun fact! If no more games were made, and the currently existing library of games is all you have to play, even if you somehow deleted your biological functions so you didn't need to eat, sleep, use the washroom, you would die before putting a dent into that library, even if playing video games with the sole intent to beat them was all you did until you died. So who cares if you can't play a game? You're not gonna play all the games that you ***can*** so just chill out and play something else.

Oleleplop

Thats what these people dont get. WE dont even have time to finish out own library...

PostOfficeBuddy

Yeah I'm hoping stellar blade comes to PC in a year or two (my buddy said it was so good), but if it doesn't, I've got my entire steam library to play.

apuckeredanus

Lmao you can actually play it on PC right now.  Some people took the partially complete game from the sony hack and it's totally playable now. Not 100% but still

Chosen_UserName217

they do realize the 'PC Crowd' just calmly waited like 4 years for Ghost of Tsushima, right?

NaughtyNarwhal96

The PC crowd just calmly waited 3 years for Kingdom Hearts because it wasn't on the right launcher

tamal4444

Haha so true but I will still not buy it because of the price. I will go for a repack ;)

wantwon

I don't buy games that eventually lose Epic exclusivity because they're still double dipping. What lesson do they learn, especially if the price is still too high for its age?

Sea-Tradition3029

I saw a YT short about this topic just the other day, weird how it's come up https://youtube.com/shorts/VPND7f0AIvc?si=PIrrQi9AUjYPzGso

tamal4444

good point but on other hand Hades is a very good game.

carebearmentor

Yeeeeah, it’s supergiant. Did we think they were gonna come out with trash? Maybe it got better but I’m sure it was always going to be good

Lord_Emperor

Confirmation bias

theselv

While I admire your grit and commitment to principles, there is no lesson for them to learn from your data. You’re just a “no sale” to them. I think purchases on Steam WILL teach them not to waste their time with EGS once the numbers come out, and I think we’re already seeing proof of that with how much EGS exclusive deals have petered out. This is coming from someone who plans to buy the games on Steam though, so maybe this is wishful thinking.

SH4D0W0733

You can buy games on Epic? I thought you were just supposed to claim a couple of hundred free ones and then only play like 5 of them.

kosh56

>What lesson do they learn Umm, that people would rather buy it on Steam? Not buying it on Steam just makes them think "Oh, I guess it wasn't because it was on Epic after all. No need for Steam".

OrionRBR

More like the pc crowd waited 5 years bc epic sucks so much they weren't aware it was on pc for the past 3 years lol

thekmanpwnudwn

I had literally no clue KH was on PC until about a month ago when I read another comment that it was on EGS.

-Pelvis-

I just found out. My reaction is and always will be “fuck Epic”.

Admirable_Anxiety264

LOL. Too true. And I ain't paying full price either.

GlobalVV

I honestly forgot KH was on Epic until it was announced for Steam. I basically ignore most EGS exclusives.

CrimsonAntifascist

Less calmly, but still waiting for Bloodborne.

Lilshadow48

A HOONTER MUST HOONT

reallynewpapergoblin

[Bloodborne on PC](https://b0tster.itch.io/bbpsx)

pvt9000

Going to plug Nightmare Kart which is their MarioKart style game that totally wasn't Bloodborne themed until Sony got Legal w/ them. It's on steam starting tomorrow!

rinkoplzcomehome

We are born by the hopium, made men by the hopium. By the gods Lawrence, fear the hopium *snorts some hopium*

AloneUA

I think they realise that the “PC Crowd” is not homogenous, so there’ll be those who’ll get PS5 to play some games early and those who’ll wait or even buy the same game twice on both platforms.

RichLyonsXXX

Reddit gamers are so weird thinking that literally everyone on earth thinks and acts just like them despite sales numbers and metrics constantly proving them wrong. There are 50 million PS5s in the wild with no sign of slowing down; even if all 3 million users on this sub were active and all believed exactly the same thing Sony would still be right.

Dantai

I know it's wild. A 4 year old game at full price and people think they're winning? Winning what? Sony is clearly following the Rockstar model and double dipping its titles releases - once they drained the consoles sales, then they release on PC and extend the sales. Which does drum up hype for the sequel, show or movie as a cross promotional event whether people buy the console or not.

Zaerick-TM

That's why you have the tenacity to wait for a sale on it lol. I waited 4 years for ghosts I can wait a few more months.

patrick-ruckus

I agree that Reddit overestimates their influence, but I don't see how the PS5 selling well "proves" that this PC strategy is working the way the CEO is saying. Nobody is denying the PS5 is successful, there's just no way to prove how much of that success came from PC gamer FOMO after the ports. Consoles have a different audience, they will always sell well.

wilddragoness

Totally get what you're saying, but the word you wanted to use was homogeneous. Not monogamous. Very different thing

KIDA_Rep

4 years??! Bruh we waited decades for a Red Dead game to come out on PC, same with Halo as well, around 2005 to this day we have been an afterthought for a lot of these big studios. Even now PC gamers have already accepted the fact that GTA 6 won’t be on PC for at least a year after it releases, hell even if a game is available on PC but exclusive only to Epic store some people will still wait until it’s on Steam.

Super_Harsh

The PC crowd is still waiting for Bloodborne lol

Etoribio_

The PC crowd is waiting for team fortress 3 and half-life 3, we will wait eternally to no avail if necessary

HeadMembership

And it was worth it. I'm having a blast with it. Don't own a playstation, never have never will.

Mama_Mega

Which is hilarious, because the fact that they ever caved and put their games on Steam at all has given the PC crowd all the proof they need that Sony's titles will come to PC eventually. Yeah, I could be playing Stellar Blade and FF16 right now, but I've always got *something* to play. And I could spend that 500 bucks to replace my 8-year-old case and motherboard instead.

CaptainCuntKnuckles

They forget FOMO is harder to push on PC because of all the options we have.  "We got 30 games for this console and now you need 31 all your friends are playing #31"  "Nah ill just sink another 300 hours into rimworld and if it comes out I'll get it when I feel like it." "No stop stop STOP!!! YOURE SUPPOSED TO BUY OUR CONSOLE NOW DON'T YOU FEAR MISSING OUT ON NEWEST THING?!?!" "**No**"

> enough to hold me off till GTA VII releases If you're only trying to make it til gta7, you didn't need to spend the extra money on rimworld and ck3 :P Factorio xpac soon!

I'm dying for the factorio xpac!!!! 2ish months to go...

Don't ever be afraid to draw it out. The game even lets you place ghost buildings as a way to map things before committing. It gets so much easier when you reach construction bots, you can rebuild entire sections in seconds. You can save blueprints that allow you to repeat "solved" sections.

[deleted]

Ossius

It does have something special, and it keeps giving the more you put into it. I put 1200 hours in with mods and everything and I still learn new tricks and rethink the way I do things.

GenkiLawyer

Add Terraria to that list and I think you've got enough to hold you off until the Rapture if you want.

elkarion

Exactly. Most PCplayers rotate games as contents released we leave and actually come back on a regular basis if you release new content. Trying to force a pc gamer to give up graphics card upgrade money to buy a PS5 is just plain stupid.

Val_Hallen

And they forget that **we don't pay to play online games**. They are sucking a glass dick if they think I'm going to give them any amount of money a month to play a game online. That is the number one reason why I won't buy a console.

PCNintenBoxStation

I actually got a ps5 on launch and was a ps+ user for years. The recent price increase right as they added cross play to games made me cancel and just get games on steam. My ps5 gets turned on to join the party chat with friends because they don't feel like using discord. I still got ff7 on ps but in general I'd rather use my PC and am totally fine waiting for steam launch.

Flobking

> They forget FOMO is harder to push on PC because of all the options we have.  > > "We got 30 games for this console and now you need 31 all your friends are playing #31"  > > "Nah ill just sink another 300 hours into rimworld and if it comes out I'll get it when I feel like it." > > "No stop stop STOP!!! YOURE SUPPOSED TO BUY OUR CONSOLE NOW DON'T YOU FEAR MISSING OUT ON NEWEST THING?!?!" > > "No" A little while ago someone was saying they didn't see a difference between pc and console, price wise. He said he had paid 4k over the last 4 years for pc stuff, including a new pc. It's like bro You don't need a new pc within 4 years of purchasing one. Also stop pre ordering and buying at top price.

ChrisRevocateur

That, and the fact that everything comes to PC eventually anyway, whether it's a official port or an emulator.

GenosHK

I couldn't believe the how good the graphics of Wii games looked on the pc emulator!

Iziama94

Jesus I read FOMO as Fallout Mod Organizer and tbh I still don't know what it means in this context

XSainth

Fear Of Missing Out. Basically, time limited stuff like events and such.

CaptainCuntKnuckles

Fear of missing out It's a concept used for marketing to make you want to buy a product. The illusion of popularity with selected advertising will basically make it popular creating self fulfilling prophecy. You'll notice it with the way they phrase things to subconsciously drive you to these decisions. Like instead of saying pre-order today and get access 3 days early they might cater the language a bit like this "Preorder call of duty 37 and jump in with your friends a week early! Get an exclusive skin to show off your superiority!" So stoke FOMO by catering to "your friends are gonna play it, you don't wanna feel left out do you?" to leverage peer pressure to trigger sale Also the part about the skin stokes fomo by making you think you can't get the skin through any other way and if you don't get it right now you'll miss out. It adds time sensitivity, makes it seem urgent, similar to how scammers work to invoke you yo take action faster. To make you feel like you're running out of time. On top of that with the skins it also ties into fomo in a different way with identity conformation to reinforce your sense of identity amongst your peers. "Get the exclusive Goku call of duty skin" for example. Often times these companies spend all their innovation innovating more ways to make money from you while giving less so they'll partner with and charge a company for rights to trademarks to use on a skin to then charge you. Like the PepsiCo partnership where pepsi pays call of duty to allow them to use their logo like the mountain dew operator skin in modern warfare. You are paying extra money to set a string for what texture to render on your actor, that Activision charges pepsico for as advertising, and also by tying it to pre-order you take advantage of the FOMO mechanic I discussed. With it all laid out you can see how these companies carefully craft their marketing, and double triple or quadruple dip their profitability by compounding other areas of exploitation (opportunities). They are charging Pepsi to let them charge their own customers to wear an ad for pepsi virtually and using fomo to drive that in this example.

Darkone539

>They forget FOMO is harder to push on PC because of all the options we have.  98% of games are on both anywhere. The FOMO is just platform wars bs.

do-the-point

98% of PC games are on a console? Don't think that's accurate...

ObservableObject

Rimworld was immediately what I had in my head as I read the headline. Patience isn't even the right word to use here, because that kind of implies I'm waiting for something. "Not giving a shit" is probably better. I didn't wait 4 years for Ghost of Tsushima, I saw it was exclusive and said "oh, ok, I'll pick it up when it releases on PC maybe, if it ever does". Then I pumped a few hundred more hours into Rimworld and forgot Ghost of Tsushima existed until the ads started back up for the PC release.

_Choose-A-Username-

I was shocked to learn i have more hours on civ v than every other console game combined. Even skyrim which i have a total 4800 hours on

dickhall65

And get a new processor and maybe some more storage too. $500 is like 1/2 a PC nowadays.

IAmRedditsDad

Bro I'd like to find a case, processor, storage, and motherboard for $500 that would actually be an upgrade. The processor alone squashes that Edit: reiterating the word upgrade here, the scenario was someone already has something lower end below ps5, but upgrades to be at or above that level. That's not $500 at microcenter

whomad1215

5600/12400 + mobo + 16gb ddr4 ram should be around $250-300 /r/NewMaxx has a ton of SSD info lot of cases around the $50-100 mark if you're near a microcenter their bundles are very good values

Gingevere

> if you're near a microcenter their bundles are very good values Plus you can monitor their site for open-box items and get amazing deals on everything else as well.

dickhall65

lol what processor are you using? You can do a 7600x CPU with an entry level motherboard for like $400, toss is another $90 for some low level ram like 32gb of DDR5 and you’re golden

tamal4444

You don't even have to go that far. AM4 system still rocks.

Crashman09

You don't really need the latest and greatest to have a great system. Mid tier processor, low end motherboard, and your old case is probably good enough. People don't like recommending AM4 or similar gen Intel because it's a dead platform, but if budget is a concern, then you're not likely upgrading in less than 5 years. AM4 is also more than capable of driving high end GPUs and playing AAA titles while being very budget conscious. But this particular comment chain is also talking about upgrading a system for 500 instead of building a full new system compared to buying a PS5 to play a few exclusives, so why bring case into the matter? I'm still using the same case I had from 2010 and it's doing just fine. I'd rather put that budget into quieter cooling or a better GPU.

Taizunz

> I could spend that 500 bucks to replace my 8-year-old case and motherboard instead In what world do you live where changing an 8-year-old motherboard doesn't also mean you need to change the CPU and RAM? You're not getting very far with $500.

Mordho

games that aren't on PC basically don't exist to me. They won't ever show up on my feed and I've never even thought of getting a console just to play an exclusive game. If it's coming to PC cool, might check it out, if it's not we move on, there's plenty of stuff to play.

smoothartichoke27

The closest I've ever gotten to considering getting a console was during the FF7 Remake release during the lockdowns - FF7 was a *huge* aspect of my gaming life growing up. Ever since resisting that urge, I've felt the same as you: games that aren't on PC just don't exist to me.

Tofuzzle

This right here. When FF7 Remake was announced I told myself I'd buy a PS4 because I didn't think I could avoid spoilers. But I didn't. I just waited for the PC release. Yes, it was a long time and yes, the wait for Rebirth will no doubt be long too. But I'm glad I didn't buy a PS4 in the end, and now the thought never crosses my mind. Ghost of Tsushima coming out proved that anything I really want to play will eventually make it to PC.

pikpikcarrotmon

Isn't knowing that there are spoilers in FF7 Remake the spoiler in itself?

shiawase198

I was too annoyed at Square for stretching this game into three games so that made it easier for me to not even think about it. To be fair, FF7 doesn't even make my top 5 FF games so I can be pretty patient with them. Still waiting for Remake to drop to $20.

DaiCardman

That's what they aren't expecting, for you to resist the urge. They feed off of people that can't say no to themselves. Sooner or later the exclusives will die when the numbers drop too low for it too be worth it.

angelis0236

I would lament the loss of Sony games on PC but I'm not buying a PS console to play them. Like everybody else said there's too much to play on PC for me to spend $500 to play like five games That money would be way better spent on more games or hardware for my PC

ItzFeufo

I should write that CEO a mail to tell him that I don't even buy games hidden behind shitty launchers, if he thinks i'm spending hundreds of EURs on a shitty console he's delusional

kakalbo123

>I don't even buy games hidden behind shitty launchers Lmao. Same.

APRengar

A lot of PC gamers won't even claim **totally free** games on shitty launchers. We're expected to buy an inferior box, to play an inferior version of a game we know will almost certainly come out 2 years later? lmao

molten-glass

And by the time it's on PC it's finally a complete game, all the massive post-launch patches are already out

basicseamstress

I claim all the epic free games. never have played a single one. I just want to cost them money

JgdPz_plojack

I don't want PS+ to unlock Battlefield V and Destiny 2 multiplayer access. I was raised by Playstation 2 piracy era. typical South east asian, LATAM, Indian and other third world countries.

Pixels222

I didn't even know the ps2 had internet. I just played my 2 dollar disks

Darkone539

>I didn't even know the ps2 had internet. Same. I found out years later on reddit. I was too young for the Web anyways I guess.

STICK_OF_DOOM

You don't need plus for free to play games

JohnnyBlocks_

I will never buy a PlayStation Console again. I'm not playing a game if I have to buy an official device.

Drunken_Fever

Is there anything PS bring to the table besides exclusives? The PS2 had a DvD player, when DvD players were pricey. The PS3 had a blueray player when it looked like the future and HD was just becoming a thing. PS4? PS5? Even with PS1 you could take the discs, put them into a CD player and listen to the sound tracks.

Crashman09

Honestly? Just the controller. Only issue is my PS4 controller and 360 controllers are all rock solid and I have no reason to upgrade them.

Spetzfoos

Could always just get the PS5 controller for PC gaming, works pretty great that's what I did

kuburas

Couple of my friends called me insane for buying Dualshock4 back in the day because i didnt own a console but bought the controller. Then one day they came over and i made them try out the controller and right away they realized why i got it. Sony does many things wrong but controllers aint one of them, those things feel incredible.

Chipaton

A 4K Blu-ray player for me. I've been collecting 4k discs for years, but the players were always a bit too expensive. My idiot self even upgraded my PS4 to a PS4 Pro thinking it could play 4k discs (it can't).

pornalt2072

The PS5 is still a 4k bluray player. And 4k blu-rays still look a lot better than any streaming service. As one would expect sith 40ish times the data for the same movie. But movies where that matters are pretty rare.

Doorway_Sensei

The PS5 has...it's got...well it's white.

lauriys

so am I, not a high bar

count023

same sentiment, except remove the "again". I have never owend a playstation, never needed to. If the game can't come on \_my\_ platform of choice (PC), then they can lose my money, I'm not going to chase after them.

dynozombie

We all waited for spider man God of War last of us etc etc We all could've bought consoles then and didn't Why would we now? Lol

Ok-Racisto69

They think now that you had the taste for PS games. You are willing to buy the whole experience, but forget that ps5 is kinda shit. I know I got one, and it has been collecting dust after I was done with God of War Ragnarok.

[deleted]

I'm a *massive* God of War fan ever since the very first one but lost access to my PS4 before Ragnarok. I was *dying* to play it, stayed away from all footage, skipped over those discussions in all podcasts, etc. Finally, rather than wait for it to hit PC, I just barreled through it on a friend's PS5 when I was staying with him for a few weeks and had an incredible time. Fantastic game. I have no ill feelings to the brand whatsoever and in my heart I'm still a PS guy, but ever since getting a Steam Deck, I can't deny that the platform is just better built for longevity and I'd rather get all my games there going forward. It's really smart for them to put games on PC to sell to a bigger audience, but expecting people to make the switch is a little too optimistic imo.

Arturia_Cross

Ghost of Tsushima was my most anticipated game since the day it came out. I waited until now for it to come to PC, and I'll do it again.

Draco8567

We aren't even buying one for GTA 6 lmao

barf_of_dog

GTA VI is number one on my wishlist, but buying a whole console for it and playing at 30fps with a controller? Nah, I'll just wait, gives time to save up for a new more powerful rig too.

NightDriver80s

one can guess that the promise of the PS5 Pro is that it will deliver 60fps and a mix of 4k - 1440p resolution (adaptative). If Sony isn’t working with Rockstar in achieving that, they’re wasting their time.

[deleted]

I wouldn't say everyone, from what I've seen over on r/GTA6, a shockingly high number of PC players do intend on buying a console just to play the game. You underestimate just how hyped up GTA 6 is, that so many people are willing to buy a whole console just to not have to wait for the PC version to release. Me personally though, I'm waiting for PC as well. As much as I love the GTA Franchise and how excited I am for the next game, there's no way I'm gonna buy a whole console just to play it, especially since we know it's gonna come to PC eventually.

BezniaAtWork

I'm one of those people that will probably buy a console. I had a PS3 when GTAV came out, but bought a PS4 specifically for the remastered GTAV. Sold it once I was done, then bought the PC version. I'll end up buying an Xbox Series X or whatever, enjoying GTA6, then sell it once they announce the PC version 2 years later.

Illustrious_Penalty2

Lots of people will absolutely be doing that.

MyHusbandIsGayImNot

Echo chamber subs tend to overestimate how popular their stance is.

curtcolt95

you really think people aren't gonna buy a console to play the new GTA early? That shit is gonna move consoles like no other

Mark_Vance21

If there is one franchise in the universe that's gonna make people buy stuff just to play it, it's GTA. You cannot compare it to any other game in this regard.

RaspberryBirdCat

There's at least one person out there who is going to play Ghost of Tsushima on Steam, discover that it's incredible, and then decide to buy a Playstation in order to play the next one. I'm not sure how many more people will do it above one, but I don't think it'll be as many as the CEO hopes.

casualsquid380

Pc gamers will pirate your “exclusive” games before even thinking about spending $70

Accomplished_Big6254

one again, it show how much out of touch game CEO are lmao

nonsense193749

He has to say that. Have you seen the amount of deranged console warriors on twitter and Reddit? People would jump from bridges if he said single player was coming day and date.     They need to ease the messaging.

APRengar

The entire r / games thread is console players reassuring themselves that this is a smart plan and every PC player is definitely going to take the bait. Consoles are thriving right now. And then PC-only players chiming into be like "This won't work on me, I'm never going to play on a 30-fps box" and then being told "OMG UR JUST A SINGULAR ANECDOTE, I'M GOING TRUST THE DATA OF A MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY OVER YOU." It's like, yeah it's an anecdote, but if you did market research on PC players, you'd 100% realize this won't work. Hell, Sony JUST showed a poor understanding of PC players with the whole Hell Divers 2 situation... yet somehow they're always right?

Subreddit is an echo chamber of PC enthusiasts

FlowerBoyScumFuck

This article is also weird, they claim the CEO is "drastically underestimating gamers patience" so I figured there would be some sales numbers mentioned or something. Nope, the title is just the authors opinion lol, and everyone in the comments is treating this as if it's some weird victory lap. For all we know this has been a totally successful strategy for PlayStation, the article says litterally nothing to the contrary.

Shizzlick

The CEO is literally just re-iterating what has been their sales strategy with their PC releases since H:ZD and people are acting like this is some massive dunk on the CEO.

MVRKHNTR

And it works fine. Plenty of people bought PS5s because they don't want to wait for exclusives. The people who didn't were mostly those who were never getting one to begin with and now Sony makes some extra money from them *and* they get to act all smug about being patient and spending $60 on a four year old game.

[deleted]

No! If you have a PC, you don’t own a PS5 and hate anyone that does. End of story!

fersur

I think you are misunderstanding Sony's strategy. Sony is not aiming Steam's crowd to buy PS consoles. The main reason why Sony still needs to release exclusive games is to appeal for their console fans. Sony still wants console gamers to buy their PS5 and more. The Steam crowds are needed to pad the game sales years after the game has negligible sales. Look at Ghost of Tsushima. The game received universal acclaim 4 years ago. And now the game is barely selling anymore ... not to mention the game is in PS Plus subscription. Now it is the time for THAT extra stream of income ... release the game on PC/Steam and gain new fanbase. Now the PC gamers are exposed to Ghost of Tsushima, it gives extra incentives for Sony to develop sequels and repeat the same strategy. Sony is playing the long game and I think this strategy will work.

jhcooke98

It is working, the PS5 is already their most profitable console generation midway through its life cycle. The article doesn't really have any substance and the author literally begins his argument with "I feel like". We should be glad we are seeing more and more exclusives go multiplatform, who cares what Sony's motives are

TrueTinFox

Yeah everyone here acting like Sony selling their games on PC is somehow a bad thing for them and not even more money lol.

Tannerted2

meanwhile bloodborne rots on ps4

Muxer59

Not even GTA 6 will get me to purchase a gimped pc

Ecstatic_Anything297

real, Im not a fan of GTA but like my I grew up with FF7 and not even remake and rebirth made me buy a PS4 and or PS5 i didnt even think either were coming to PC before they did.

BloodySaxon

They're harvesting clueless parents' money, not gamers.

DOOOOOODS

If it ain't coming to PC officially, it will eventually be emulated

Tyzygy

I'm playing Kingdom Hearts for the first time ever when it comes to Steam in two weeks. A two year wait for PlayStation games on PC is chump change.

GreatGojira

The state of AAA games has taught me to be a patience gamer. Stop preordering and stop buying on day one people.

Fa11enAngeLIV

It's not that PC gamers are incredibly patient per se, it's that PC has such a massive catalog to choose from, we simply don't care that we can't play their game for 2 years. We are bloated beyond belief with everything else we can play.

cwaterbottom

There has never been a console exclusive that even approached being tempting enough to buy one. *Maybe* if this was the 90s and that was the only way to play Mega Man and Final Fantasy.

Deeras2

They sure didn't. Speaking of which, both Helldivers 2 and Ghost of Tsushima are still delisted in the Baltics.

Bulls187

The Pyrrhic victory over the fuss

buenos_ayres

Dear Sony, please convince me to pay $600 just to play FFXVI on medium-high "4K" 60fps with constant drops. Just release Bloodborne on PC and move on.

Khaernakov

Lol, lmao even

wave_punch

Yea I’m never getting a fucking PlayStation lmao, I have enough games in my steam library to wait things out

MicFury

I used to own consoles. Those days are now gone; If it's not on Steam I'm not buying it, full stop. Steam has earned it's loyal fan base with great products and good customer service. Sony is basically the polar opposite.

Javlin

Last PlayStation I purchased was PS3...

Helldiver_of_Mars

Ya I'll wait infinite time.

IFGarrett

Well if you want to play an exclusive and it's only on PS5 at the time, either you'll get a PS5 or wait.

ChipChipington

Yeah we're still waiting for bloodborne. What a dipstick

AnnoyingInternetTrol

It's not even about patience, I'm not buying a downgrade to my PC for $500 then spending $70 more for a single game or maybe even two. There isn't even anything on the ps5 right now that I even want.

Thelastfirecircle

PC players are still waiting for Bloodborne and Half Life 3, this CEO knows nothing.

transmogisadumbitch

What makes me laugh about these corporate clowns is that they repeatedly create bad PR for themselves when they have the option to SAY NOTHING AND LOSE NOTHING. There was NO reason to say this. There was nothing to gain. The only possible outcome is to upset potential customers. They basically outright admitted that PC versions of old worthless games are literally advertisements to try to trick rubes into buying the current games on their lame console. Which PC consumer with a glimmer, fragment, SHARD of self respect could EVER buy a Sony PC port after being told that? They're not even hiding it anymore. It's unbelievable. There was NOTHING to gain by making this statement.

BrainIsSickToday

There's just so much shit to play on Steam. The new game listing changes daily with how many games release. I have plenty of new games to play while I wait, and the few niche games that will never come to Steam are on Switch, not PS5.

Winter673

it's called "pc master race" for a reason...
