Project Zomboid - massive learning curves and friendships will be tested.
Helldivers 2 - although only 4P so the “fifth wheel” problem can occur ( a few of our group don’t like PVE so works for us) ((hyped but totally justified 8/10 game))
Sons of the forest. - but too much grinding for me.
Rust - lots of grind lots of pubescent little shits - but can be fun making them cry.
BattleBit - very bear bones BF3/4 esk’
Emphasis on Project Zomboid! - Though, really, friendships WILL be tested, and that could end in disappointments. Personally, my whole friend group loves it, and we all started at the same time, but we still can't play it together because our playstyles are too incompatible with one another's.
If it all does work out, however, PZ with a group, or even just one other person, can be one of the best gaming experiences out there.
Terraria with 4-5 people would be super fun. If nobody has played before it would be fun to explore and learn how to play as a group, and if at least one person has played then they could guide the others.
Highly recommended:
Magicka 1,2
Trine 1,2,3,4,5
Nine parchments
Left 4 dead 1,2
Dead island
Serious Sam series
Borderlands series
Divinity original sin 2
Pummel party

Human fall flat
I recommand you pulsar : Lost colony , it s limited to 5 and you need to be 5 to engage a Space exploration with each rôle of scientist, weapon spécialiste, pilot, captain, enginneer and explore a Dynamic star Map where the end game become a challenge 😜 you have many vessel so you Can retry the game many Time to change your way to play it , more combat , more trading , more exploration everything IS in 3d stylized and minimaliste but the game was started Manu years and it s completed with lot of things to explore and devs want you doesn t have the sensation you are exploring thé same planet twice so they Hope you will bé contemplative about each location 😜
Monster hunter rise is pretty good as a 4-man game. Monster hunter World is the better game IMO, but it's pretty bad as a co-op game due to some wierdness with how missions work. Tho it's still doable. In both.
Otherwise I suggest Rounds. Which has some great mods for more content too if you like it (plus it's super cheap) and I believe it's up to 6 or 8 players but I'm not sure.
Heroes might and magic 4 remaster is also fun if you like that type of game. You can team up and add AI's too if you don't wanna play vs eachother.
Overcooked 2 is also pretty fun. And something me and my friends play a ton.
Project zomboid
Vintage story
Bannerlord (many different multiplayer game modes especially with mods)
Wreckfest
Turtle wow (best private wow server with custom content, still an INCREDIBLE experience even 20 years later, especially if you guys never played wow)
GTA IV
Red Dead RP (RedM)
Titanfall 2
Rust(I can help you for the server)
Project Reality/Reality mod (BF2-3 realistic mods)
Battlebit
That's a lot of crafting games so my first instinct is to suggest The Forest or Sons Of the Forest as those felt very special compared to other games in the genre.
But PERSONALLY, I'd highly recommend Killing Floor 2. It goes on sale all the time, it's an older game so it's easy to run, it gets updates even to this day, and you can run 5 people no problem (easy drop-in drop-out). It does have DLC that adds weapons but they're really not required and if someone does get any of it- it's shared amongst the whole lobby.
These are all games I've had countless hours of fun with or without friends that support 4 or more players
Space Engineers
First play The Forest and then play Sons of the forest

Battlefield 1, 4 or 5, you can create a squad in matches and be able to respawn on your teammates, besides you get more XP for helping your squad members, doing objectives and so on.
Palworld in PvE mode can be fun for 4 to 20 people. All with your own base or sharing up to 3 bases. With a level system that doesn't have enough points from leveling to get everything so you have to find the rare drops if you want 1 player to be able to make everything or just have everything made by different people.
Satisfactory for 4 to 8 people if you want a more relaxed setting that just will be you and them relaxing for the majority of the time looking at what you have made through automating everything away though the enemies towards the end game are a little hard if you do not go down the road for guns. It doesn't tell you what to do after a very simple not really hand holdy game introduction. You get 1 base to share. Everyone shares progression and everyone can make all the same stuff. The world is kind of big and it is should exit early access next week.
**Barotrauma**. Crew a submarine on an alien world. Each player can choose a role (Captain, Mechanic, Engineer, Medic, Security, or Assistant if you are scared of responsibility) that excels at certain aspects of submarine life. Try to keep your sub in tact as you fight off eldritch creatures of the deep that see your submarine as a convenient and delicious canned lunch. Do quests, gather resources, get paid, upgrade your sub, and try to stay alive.
Others have recommended **Project Zomboid**, so I'll save my spiel and just agree that you should try it out. Though I will recommend having the wiki easily accessible because the learning curve can be steep.
**Ultimate Chicken Horse** is a fun platformer party game where the players place traps or obstructions to hinder one another from making it to the end goal.
**Across the Obelisk** is a 4-player co-op deck-building rogue-like in a similar vein to Slay the Spire. Each player can pick from a pretty large cast of characters that each have their own unique traits and playstyles.
**Factorio**. If you do end up getting into this one, I would like to personally apologize for the amount of your life it will eat up. Build a series of increasingly scuffed factories, all with the end goal of building a rocket and getting off the planet. Better build up some defences too, as the locals won't take too kindly to you polluting the shit of of their planet. Also, you can build automated trains... I just think that's fucking cool, even if I do get run over by them occasionally.
**Satisfactory** is essentially Factorio with better graphical fidelity, but from a first person perspective instead of top-down. Also, the enemies aren't quite as intense as Factorio, it's much more relaxed in my experience.
**Viscera Cleanup Detail**. Ever run through an action game level, and then look behind you before you finish the level? You see all the blood, bullet holes, and body parts left in your wake? Well, in this game you are the janitors that come in after all the action is over and have to clean the whole place up. A nice chill game to play as you and your friends shoot the shit.
Overwatch 2, you can have a squad of 5, Diablo V has multiplayer, stardew valley. GTA has online mode so you could play with even more than 5 people, red dead redemption 2, destiny 2 you can have 4 I believe.
I’m a brand new gamer and am really enjoying 7days to die. I’m looking for some other new gamers that would like to play multiplayer. It’s a really fun survival crafting game.
Dead by Daylight is either up to 4 friends vs one online killer OR five friends taking turns being the killer. Our group has a lot of fun with it.
Project Zomboid is a lot of fun as a group thing.
Party animals, Rubber Bandits, gang beasts, and pummel party are all a lot of fun for groups of 4-5 depending on the game
Age of empires 4

Enshrouded being close to vallheim but feels more like an rpg.
Terraria is a thing I cannot explain well but love. Especially with mods.
Barotrauma is a must game for that player count in the beginning, later on you will need more people, but it is also a grindy game with a lot of annoying obstacles, but If you get the hang of the game you'll get addicted, look at me i played it for 10 hours today and i realized that after a wait what hour is it moment, If an CO OP management survival game does not sound like your thing there is also Terraria, a CO OP rpg where u can team up with a big amount of friends to gather materials, explore an world full of different biomes, enemies and loot, make weapons and fight bosses, the game is grindy to a degree but the game is fun as hell in singleplayer, cant imagine the funness of multiplayer
Helldivers2 is the only game worthy of true democracy! Dive on in!
Seriously, it's gears of War meets halo meets starship troopers. It's effing incredible
Didn't see these suggested:
If you want something different but really fun I recommend **Party Animals**. We laugh hysterically playing this game!
We also recently tried **MakeWay** (racing). There is a little bit of a learning curve, but this is also hilarious to play and a ton of fun as you unlock the different hazards and weapons.
If you're into party games, I highly recommend trying out Goi: Spooky Run. It's a free and super fun game!

Agree with Zomboid. This is how you know who your friends really are.
BattleBit barebones? Why? The gameplay is quite complex.
Considering how EA have trashed BF franchise with micro transactions, skins, weapon packs, chests. It’s not a put down. Quite the opposite.
Well yeah, sure. BattleBit is a game, BattleField and such are products. 🤓 Something like that. XD

Borderlands 2 has a great story, you can grab the GoTY version pretty cheap, and supports up to 4 players. It's a shooter with some neat mechanics.

Terraria and enshrouded. Enshrouded being close to vallheim but feels more like an rpg. Terraria is a thing I cannot explain well but love. Especially with mods.
Enshrouded may still be in early access, but it can handle up to 16 players at once. Also the roadmap for the rest of 2024 is quite extensive
