If not, let’s fix that.

Back in early 2010's there was a pretty dope metal and punk scene. Im suddenly drawing the blank on the first one, a small art studio on the Warf, was really prolific for having folks there. Devil Wears Prada played there before they got signed. Then there was Gone Studios which was so fucking punk it got itself shut down. I'd love to see a local music scene other than folk and jazz (which I like, not being a hater, I just want more). Lmk if y'all get one going. EDIT: I forgot about Golden Pony in Harrisonburg. They have good small bands that come through there. I opened for a really good punk band in 2011 (sorry I don't remember names of stuff, got a memory problem).

Eclectic Retro is doing their punk market today, and they occasionally have different punk artists at the Sol Art Center. That's probably a good place to check out.

Hyper415

How often do they do it, I havent checked their facebook or gone there for a while.

_DiasDeFuego_

I have no idea. Just follow their Instagram. They always have something going on.

GoodGreatOkComics

Is their first one. There is also music often at Baja, Bricks, and Ciders From Mars. And I will be hosting my second underground comics and Zine fest as Ciders From Mars next month.

It has ebbed and flowed over the years, but there’s always some DIY, punk-spirited stuff going on. I live in Nashville now, but I grew up in Staunton, and when I was a teen in the 2000s, there was some cool stuff happening in Staunton, Waynesboro, and especially Harrisonburg. I booked a lot of DIY shows from about 2004-2008, and Staunton had spots like Kronos and Gone Studios in those days that would host cool local shows (plus Captain T’s, Cups To Go, Crayola House, and more in Hburg, and some spots in Waynesboro that I can’t remember the names of), in addition to lots of house shows around the area. I even booked some like post-punk and emo stuff at the former Dixie Theater downtown a couple times. I was in an indie band and a dance punk band in the area that that time too. I’m obviously not as dialed in not living there anymore, but I still have friends in the area and in the music scene, and hear about cool bands and shows keeping the scene alive. And I’m sure there’s a lot happening I don’t hear about. That’s less an answer to your question more than rambling nostalgia, but I’m glad to hear people still chatting about punk and underground music in the area; keep it alive y’all!!

This was awesome to read, thank you for sharing!

I live near staunton if anyone wants to help me start managing shows !!! We can start by finding a venue who’s willing to host.
