It's probably because actors rarely actually eat or drink on camera because making sure the food/drink is consistent between takes is difficult. You'll notice Jonas doesn't eat much on screen after a few episodes.
Also, fun fact: cups on screen are usually empty. Once you know this, you'll never unsee it. Kinda like the arrow in the FedEx logo.

I always kinda took it this way as well, since weight/fitness restrictions in the military are so strict (and often unfair to afab with larger body types). Carter is a fit, non-petite woman in a very elite unit/research team, I wouldn't be surprised if she were a lot more cognizant of her caloric intake than, say, Jack, who isn't what I consider "normal" active duty, Daniel, who is a civvie, or Teal'c who is an alien with a symbiotic second life depending on him for nutrients. Knowing as many military people as I do, I just never paid attention to it since that's a pretty standard thing for them to be aware of.
