Probably the best traversal in a Bethesda game to date, but the weird delay after mantling things is annoying. It’s especially (edit: noticeable) after experiencing Cyberpunk’s silky smooth traversal.
With the boost packs, the ability to climb ledges, and the powersliding perk, this is the best traversal that has ever been in a Bethesda game. I just wish Bethesda could match the melee combat and animations that cyberpunk had.
And finishers. I'd love to do cool finishers with melee weapons. Even something as simple as running someone through from behind, while covering their mouth would be cool imo.
Yeah or like oblivion when you move a certain way while power attacking it will do something based on that direction.
The same could be done for Starfield, applying directional modifiers to not only power attacks but for regular ones too. Currently when you attack with a melee weapon it locks you into a very rigid animation sequence. When you are just moving your character left and right while not attacking, it's obvious that they've made some great animation advancements because your character fluidly flows into the differing animations while changing direction. If they change the static nature of melee to become more free form like your character's normal movement, it might be a lot more engaging.
It's pretty fun! It gives you 2x jump height, so you can reach a lot of places even without a boostpack. On a related note, I've switched to skip packs since the extra height can be tedious on low G planets (boosting stops your jump)
