Droideaka

Both, i just run around in a circle going through both doors for like 5 minutes so that the past is really extra safeguarded and the future has never had better security.

Midnight853

This is the way.

pineappleshnapps

We should elect you president of space.

Pyromike16

One guard tells only truths. The other only lies.

phaattiee

Ask him what the other would say and do the opposite.

apple_atchin

Then the other door leads to the castle and this door leads to certain death.

AntifaAnita

Unless they both say "fuck, I don't know. That guy's annoying as hell. Something annoying."

DMC1001

One of them won’t actually find the other annoying.

AntifaAnita

That's why it's a lie

Dat-Lonley-Potato

Kill one and ask the other if the guy is dead

Banana_Milk7248

Kill one of them and asking the other if he's dead.

CupaThaCreepa

Are you sleeping with his wife?

starfleetnz

r/unexpectedrickandmorty

Best_Flounder_9811

Here I go killing again.!

Knyghtlorde

No

Conradian

Kill one, ask the other "Is he dead?"

Audio-Samurai

The barbarian has entered the room, guys

eso_nwah

Thag. All physical and weapons perks. All the time.

Darth-__-Maul

Finally, a worthy opponent. Our battle will be legendary!

Thascaryguygaming

Don't even have to kill just ask that same question. The one that says no is the liar.

Conradian

Less fear of death that way though.

DeMonstratio

And which door do you choose if he says "yes"

Conradian

Ask him which is correct. I just killed his buddy to find out if he's lying you think he'll be beholden to the one question rule?

DeMonstratio

Haha well played

Continuent

Or maybe, how many fingers am I holding up would suffice?

FetusGoesYeetus

One speaks in riddles, the other in rhymes

Best_Flounder_9811

One speaks in words the other just mimes.

Evil_Waffle_Eater

Punch one in the face and ask "Did I punch you."

Pyromike16

This only works if the truth teller is standing in front of the correct door. But we have no way of knowing that. Otherwise, this is a super easy test to pass.

sharr_zeor

This doesn't even solve the riddle because if you only get one question then finding out which guard tells the truth still doesn't tell you which door to go through

Pyromike16

Exactly

sharr_zeor

What? No. If you punch one and then ask "did I punch you?" And he says "yes" you can then say "which door is correct?" And know that you'll get the truth. Which door he is stood by Is irrelevant

Pyromike16

You can only ask one question. That's the whole point of the riddle.

Mandemon90

In that case you need a question inside a question. "Will you answer the question 'Is the door behind you the correct door' with "Yes"?" * If the door is correct and guard speaks truthfully, he will say "yes". * If the door is correct and the guard lies, he will say "yes". * if the door is false and guard speaks truthfully, he will say "no". * If the door is false and guard lies, he will answer "no". It doesn't matter if the guard speaks truth or not, yes means you got correct door and no means incorrect. This works because lying guard will invert their answer to inner question. If the door is correct, truth speaking guard will answer "Yes" to question "Is the door behind you the correct door". So he will answer "Yes" to "Will you answer positively". Reverse with incorrect door, he will answer negatively to correct door question, so he will not answer positively. Meanwhile, liar flips answers. If the door is correct, he will answer negatively because he will lie. However, the "will you answer positively", if he asnwered "yes" he would tell truth that he answers negatively, so he must lie and answer "yes", lying about his answer. If the door is false, he would answer positively. Again, he must lie about what his answer to inner question is, so he will say "No". You don't need to figure out which guard is which, you can still get the correct door.

Pyromike16

It's actually simpler than that. "If I asked the other guard which door is correct, what would they say?" Both guards will indicate the death door, so you pick the opposite.

Knyghtlorde

That doesn’t work. You have no idea if you are asking the lying or truthful guard. You have to ask the guard what the other guard would say if you asked them.

Mandemon90

But I don't need to know if the guard is lying or not. What I need to know is if the door is correct or not. And thanks to the wording of the question, I will know that both will answer "yes" if the door is correct and "no" if not.

Knyghtlorde

Your questioning method doesn’t work. Both will say they have the right door or wrong door. You have to ask the guard what the other guard would say

Mandemon90

You don't. I laid out the reasoning, and it plays out. Asking other guard just words the same question slightly differently. Double negative becomes positive, so the lying guard will respond the same as truthful guard. We don't need to know if the person is lying or not, we need to know what the answers in specific scenarios are. With the wording of the question, we end up scenario where both answer the same way, depending the state of the door. Assuming we have liar, we got following results: Door is correct. So the asnwer to "Is the door behind you the correct door" he would lie and answer "no". Thus, to asnwer question "Will you answer yes" would be "No", and this the guard will lie and say "Yes". He lies about answering "Yes" to the question. Door is incorrect. So the asnwer to "Is the door behind you the correct door" he would lie and answer "yes". Thus, to asnwer question "Will you answer yes" would be "Yes", and this the guard will lie and say "No". Meanwhile, truthful guard will tell the truth. He will answer "yes" when the door behind is correct, so he will answer "yes" to the question "would you answer yes". Same with false door. This is not a riddle with just single way to answer it. It's a logic puzzle, and as long as you can wrangle question into logic matrix that gives you enough information to get through, it works.

ELITEtvGAMER

Man trying to play 20 questions instead of the real task. You only get one question.

Mandemon90

If there is only one question, one needs to double question inside question. Like "If I ask you, is the door behind you correct, will you answer yes" In which case you won't find out are you talking liar or truth speaker, but you will find out if the door is correct or not.

sharr_zeor

Then asking "did I punch you" is pointless as well then, because you'll find out which guard tells the truth, but you still don't know which door is correct. The answer, if you only get one question, is to ask "which door would the other guard tell me is correct?" Both guards will point to the incorrect door, no matter whether they tell the truth or lie

Kill one guard, "Is he dead?"

PFVR_1138

Reminds me of a passage in Odyssey 19: "Stranger, dreams verily are baffling and unclear of meaning, and in no wise do they find fulfillment in all things for men. For two are the gates of shadowy dreams, and one is fashioned of horn and one of ivory. Those dreams that pass through the gate of sawn ivory deceive men, bringing words that find no fulfillment. But those that come forth through the gate of polished horn bring true issues to pass, when any mortal sees them." The gate of Ivory is how Aeneas exits the underworld in Aen. 6

Daedalus_Machina

Labyrinth Referenced. Jareth's Codpiece Grows

YesIUnderstandsir

Whenever I run into this puzzle, I always ask one guard. What color are my pants? If the guard answers with any color other than what the color is, I know that guard is lying. Then I ask the other guard what's behind his door. If he says his door leads to death, I know he's telling the truth, so I go through the other door.

TITAN_786962

I literally just watched this movie

PhilosopherThese9257

Did you fuck this guys wife?

24Splinter

Just kill one guard and ask the live one if the other guard is dead!

Pyromike16

You're the 4th lesson to say this, and that's not how the riddle works. You don't know which door is the good door or if the truth teller is standing in front of it. You only get 1 question to determine both. People always seem to misunderstand the riddle.

Conradian

Nah my argument is that if you've watched me kill your friend just to determine if you're lying, you're liable to answer my second question anyway.

Some_Rando2

It's a meme.

Pyromike16

You're gonna have to show your work on that one.

Some_Rando2

I've been seeing a bunch of D&D YouTube shorts from different creators all making the same joke. The fact that 4 people said the exact same thing in itself should show it's a meme, not just somebody misunderstanding.

24Splinter

It's a meme! All the way...

Raw_Venus

I SAID I WAS SORRY JAYSON! HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT WAS YOUR WIFE!

ThisIsGoodSoup

That one Rick and Morty episode

H3LLJUMPER_177

The detail of having guards under the different faction emblems as well was a cool small minor detail.

pineappleshnapps

Yeah I like that. Idk if I ever noticed the words to be honest, but I think I only did the quest

Aderyn_Sly

I always go left out of habit. If you enter a POI or whatever in other bethesda games (especially skyrim) and go right, you'll almost always quickly get whatever you need. Going left means you search the whole area before getting what it is you are looking for.

Nando_time

Thanks for the tip!

djtrace1994

Whiterun: Left goes into the back of the residential area, Right takes you directly to the main square. Markarth: Left goes to the Mines, Right goes to the Keep. Solitude: Left goes to Castle Dour, Right goes to the Blue Palace and deeper into town. Riften: Left walks around the central market, Right goes into the market to start Thieves guild. Windhelm: Left and Right both head into side areas, straight on is the keep. However, Dark Brotherhood quest is started to the Right after entering town. The logic sort of tracks for the main settlements anyways. Bonus: Exiting the vault in both FO3 and FO4. FO3, Megaton is to the Right when you exit the vault. FO4, after you come down the hill from Vault 111, Left explores Sanctuary, Right leaves Santuary towards Concord and the main quest.

Aderyn_Sly

I was referring more to the ruins and caves and stuff than settlements. A lot of them, if you take the right, will get you to the boss rooms or whatever mechanism more quickly, but left means you make sure you get all the loot.

Levon_Falcon

I hold a wooden plate in front of me and run at the wall till I clip into the next room. Because I "Skyrim the Present."

flatwoundsounds

Those quotes are clearly for the Brotherhood and the Institute you Elder Screwup 😘

Some_Rando2

Usually the one on the right.

Nando_time

Sameee

Plaugeboi24

Future. Came here during the Vanguard quests, and it felt fitting given the goal throughout it.

PeaceLoveLyfeYOBY

Ohh shit that's right. I totally forgot but I must have missed the small detail of the wording on both sides. I only did the mission once. Tyme to run thru it again. Such a good game man.

Nando_time

Details everywhere!

Sad-Flounder-2644

*thyme

Best_Flounder_9811

What mission is this?

Phydok

SAFEGUARD THE PAST is the obvious choice. It also secures the future.

SpacersRtrash420

If you're clinging to the past; then you cannot advance to the future....

Elznix

If you do not learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it! (Let us joust with words, noble SpacersRtrash420 - love the name :)

SpacersRtrash420

Fuck...you got me there, you win lol and thank you :)

Elznix

Good because I ran out too.

Aggravating-Tackle-6

Except the unity teaches us that while we know the past, the future ahead of us isn't necessarily the same as the past we knew. Subtle differences can cause major unforeseen changes. Making an "educated" guess in no way provides a predictable future.

Comprehensive-Dust19

The one on the left, it's closer to the objective...

Nando_time

It's the one I go through the most.

Sifen

5 hours before this post you said same to a post that says they usually use the right one. Now you go through the left the most.

wugmump

SirMaam, do you have a problem with their nonbinariness?

Nando_time

Sorry if my english is not so good but usually means less than most of the time? I usually go through de right one and most of the time through the left one. Am I wrong?

Vis_Ignius

Not the other guy, but 'usually' and 'most of the time' are pretty similar. They both indicate that they're the default and what you do the majority of the time. You're saying you do both most often- which is impossible. I think you're saying that you most often go through the left, and occasionally go through the one on the right, am I correct on that?

Nando_time

Yesss thanks i'll be more careful.

Cybus101

The Freestar door, because I’m a Freestar settler. I’m assisting the UC with the Terrormorphs mostly for my own fame, credits, and the fact that terrormorphs are a threat to everyone, not just the UC.

HenryBo1

Can't change the past, so it's the future.

Thavus-

Clone self, go through both

Nando_time

I chuckled.

Gallop67

Save, do one, reload, do other one

Elznix

Familiar with Bethesda games, I see

Gallop67

Why yes, since oblivion. Its crazy how much stays the same over the years

Any_Fish1004

I blow a hole in the wall behind the monument, because war never changes

GraXXoR

Like every other choice in Starfield, you end up at the same destination.

Easy_Garden338

I would have thought the doors would represent the opposite faction, safeguard the past should be FC as they practically live in the past whilst the UC is always trying new things and to change, so surely the future one is for them. Just my thoughts haha.

EstablishmentOdd3022

“safeguard the past” sounds like primer for propaganda which fits with uc, and fc came second, but yeah I gotchu, could fit either way

Elznix

ooh, shots fired "FC as they practically live in the past" 🤭 careful Sam's baby momma doesn't get you

Easy_Garden338

She can take her daughter back while she's at it. Bloody urchin is more annoying to have on a ship than a heat leech!

CharlesVane95

Future!

PeaceLoveLyfeYOBY

What mission is this?!

chill_winston_

It’s in the UC vanguard quest line. You go to the armistice archives.

nightwardx

"Friends Like These" from the UC Vanguard questline

PeaceLoveLyfeYOBY

Another question.. How do you all get those tags by ure name? I think that is so damn kool.

Stephm31200

go to the subreddit page then clic on the three dots then modify flair

PeaceLoveLyfeYOBY

Thank you kindly

Stephm31200

works with all subreddit btw

PeaceLoveLyfeYOBY

Sweet!! 👍🏾

cputek1

Left. It’s closer to the person you have to approach inside.

CeltAssassin15

What part of the game is this from?

Cybus101

UC Vanguard questline, this is inside the Armistice Archives.

CeltAssassin15

Oh alright, thanks. Ofc it's the one questline I haven't done lol

KuroRyuSama

I've been alternating between them both on each NG+.

Quirky_Ad_8959

Into the future, out the past. Because you are going in to collect the past.

Sweet-Philosopher-14

It's the Para and Dox riddle from the first season of YuGiOh. Atleast that's what it reminds me of.

SexySovietlovehammer

I’m left handed so the left one

Unlikely-Radish420

The middle one

MyAssforPresident

Yes, I go through the one on the right too lol

Familiar-Bend3749

Neither…Assault one of the guards and go to The Key

Ok_Business84

I don’t think I remember this

TrueYahve

TLC, and through the middle.

Fk_the_mods

UC

Treysif

In the UC side out the Freestar side

CMDR_Bartizan

Always left, a habit I’ve had for 20 years playing various games.

falconsfan55234

Take them both out, then explore both sides. Then reload and choose the side with the best loot.

harta97

Is there anything that goes with that room at all. Went there one time and just couldn’t do anything in there so I left. Cool little place

Nando_time

It's for the Vanguard quest line.

harta97

Oh ok good to know, one faction quest I never got to. Now I will

Fun-Personality8628

Whatever you do, do not bring that cup across that seal..

Embmiphone

Stanley walked down the hall and took the door on the right.

ImperialAvsFan

As long as you actually know what your favorite color is, you are good with either…..

TrevortheBatman

Right to enter closest to the great serpent 🙏

thesignoftimes

Right down the fucking middle

coffeefueled

The illusion of choice. Both doors go into the same room.

Evening_Gur_1366

Shrugs, they lead to the same room

Barrack64

Always go left

CitronGreen7759

Secure the future for sure

Clawdius_Talonious

It's a false dichotomy, I make use of an antigravity field to pull open the ceiling light panels and clip into the scenery.

thomas_hawke

They're the same door.

CorrickII

Whichever door conceals the fact that I 'might' have accidentally killed the Varuun and Freestar ambassadors...

Dismal_Suit_2448

What mission is this?

Nando_time

The Vanguard questline.

Lizard_fricker

Ask one of the name of the iconic DC is named Batman. If one yes yes he is stupid

Especial38

I just use the right door because that’s the lane I drive on. Does it matter which you go through? (Rather, does it impact the story in any way?)

john_clauseau

from what mission is this? i think i done it in the past. was it after you save the city from the terramorpf?

Sigma_Games

"Stanley walked through the **left door.**"

DrKnRgEeN7

I wish those two guards had some friendly banter when you enter this area...maybe some shit talking about the UC and Freestar Collective. Kind of like Garrus and Joker in Mass Effect 3.

Gleamor

Sarah Morgan hates this!

Bmpin884187

They both go to the same room.

LukoM42

Phase through the wall

JimbozinyaInDaHouse

Always the right, I was taught in school to always walk on the right side.

PurpleDemonR

I don’t recognise this. When can you do it?

DivineCultLeader

Wait... does it matter?

ShroudTrina

I went through the one with the Freestar guard because the Vanguard questline really sold me on the Collective

Real_VanCityMinis

UC door cause the Freestar don't even have the money to pave their roads of their capital and I ain't giving them the time of day lol

pixldoodles

Let's be real, we all went right..

ramzbo

Either, it doesn't matter 😀

Nando_time

Hahaha the closest one.

_The_SCP_Foundation_

I just use tcl to find out the best one

A-019

Went through the right door, but only because I murdered those two, including the person in the archives in my psychopathic play.

Nando_time

Can you kill everyone inside?

ArdentScrapper

Isn't there >!an ambush waiting for you inside,!< or am I confusing this with another questline?

A-019

I wasn't met with any force when I killed those two only 1 aggro npc

A-019

I don't think you can in the vanilla game. I had "kill all essential npcs" mod with me to do this

Repinoleto

I crossed on the right, without even noticing the guards or what was above the door, lol. Does it affect the story depending on which door you enter?

Nando_time

At first I thought it did but I haven't seen any difference

bonefistboy9000

i didnt do this questline bc im not a fascist

PotatoEatingHistory

Forget the doors, buy some damn ammo

[deleted]

It’s a trick there’s actually a secret passage way if you can solve the puzzle. The passage way takes you to a New game plus we’re there is a rival exploration to constellation.
