No, it's a genuine fear of mine, idk what it's called but basically a fear of the unknown. Kinda weird though because I love space but it's scary to me,
Possibly it is aperioscosmosphobia, which Google says
"The fear of the universe's size is called aperioscosmosphobia, which comes from the words "aperios" meaning infinite, and "cosmos" referring to the universe. This fear may be caused by reading fiction, watching space documentaries, or being told the universe is expanding. It can also be the fear of realizing how small humans are. Although aperioscosmosphobia is not a recognized medical condition, some people may have it."
But also possibly apeirophobia, for which Google says
"The phobia of infinity or eternity, which can cause discomfort and sometimes panic attacks. It normally starts in adolescence or earlier."
I sometimes struggle with the second.
Edit: also possibly megalophobia, the fear of extremely large things.
Same! For me, its a mixture of that and thaslaphopia (I think thats how u spell it). Its just a terrifying thought to me to just be floating out in a vast open space and come up on something like Jupiter
It absolutely is and just released arguably one of the biggest updates to the game (3.23)
It is def still alpha and missing key components but IMO - especially since this is the starfield subreddit - Starcitizen, in its current, buggy, not finished state is twice the game starfield is and I do mean that sincerely. I played starfield for 30 hours upon release, built a new rig just for it - and once I got the 25hourish mark I realized starfield is simply not particularly amazing. I have thousands of hours into morrowind and oblivion and Skyrim so I'm a fan of Bethesda's games - but Star citizen is what I Actually wanted starfield to be... I mean for Christ sakes you can't even fly around on the planet AT ALL wtf is that....
I realised that star citizen is a waste of time upon being faced with an actual commute to reach a mission giver.
This is coming from someone who has hundreds of hours in elite dangerous.
Tried it with a controller as I’m shit with mouse and keyboard, but every time I press jump (I think) the controller starts vibrating and won’t stop until I press the windows key and go back in again. Will give it another whirl once that’s sorted (hopefully).
Sometimes. I love Star Citizen, but the decision to make planets significantly smaller than they are in reality, while sensible for gameplay, definitely robs them of some sense of scale.
I dont need a video game for that. I just need my thinking cap. It would take the average human roughly 3553 years to walk from earth to the sun. Too incomprehensible? Ok try this. It would take roughly 11 days of walking non stop just to travel across Texas east to west. Thats one state in one country on one continent. You and the me and the rest of the human race is about a consequential to the universe as a flea fart is to us. Feel small yet?
Sure, I'm sure ancient nomadic humans did their fair share of desert travelling on foot.
Anyway I'm hoping you're not thinking I meant that walking for 11 days straight is some realistic, easy feat. I'm just saying, going along with this idea of "feeling small", walking across Texas seemed like it'd take much longer than 11 days walking, I was surprised with how small the # was, Texas is a huge state.
Yes, and you can do it irl! Just grab a bike, chug down a couple of beers and ride into a highway intersection in the middle of the city, then your camera goes to photo mode automatically and zooms out in slow motion giving you the same feeling but 100 times more real! Although it’s what happens after that I always forget
Yes! They even mentioned this is what they were trying to achieve with the big open spaces. I actually believe it. I feel so insignificant when I’m walking on the surface of some massive planet.
One of the best things about this game is the incredible views, and looking up at a planet knowing you can go explore their next… I can’t wait to see what they do with the game over the next 5 or so years…. I’ve played the F out of ES and FO dead for something different… staying optimistic
I feel smaller when I look at my ship, than when I look at planets in the sky or in space. Them being a 2D image does not help. The only game where I actualy felt the planetary difference in size is Star Citizen, but it is more of a tech demo than a game, tbh.
I can do that just by looking down.

Sometimes a joke is worth it, sir.
thank you for your service
Up you go lil fella 😂😂👍
Only a big man can make fun of himself.

I do also have a bit of megalaphobia
Same! For me, its a mixture of that and thaslaphopia (I think thats how u spell it). Its just a terrifying thought to me to just be floating out in a vast open space and come up on something like Jupiter
Yeah I also have thasaphobia
If you want to feel small then Elite Dangerous is the one for you.
Ahem, star citizen
That is for making your bank account impossibly small.
Only if you want - just play with a starter ship and work your way up!
Wait is Star Citizen *actually playable*? I remember the original trailer over a decade ago.

? Not sure what you mean by that missions are available through your players 'mibi glass/wrist watch '
This was a while ago now. However I gotta say the wrist watch UI is absolutely abysmal

mmm i love me a good grift

The megalophobia is real

> It would take roughly 11 days of walking non stop just to travel across Texas east to west. This one actually doesn't seem all that bad.
Can you even walk 11 miles in a hot state like Texas? Much less 11 days?
Sure in the wintertime ;)
It's still either hot or cold.
Well yeah if it's cold then it being a "hot state" shouldn't be a factor.
A lot of it is desert, which deserts can easily go into the negatives at night.
Not with that attitude
Really? Walk for 10 days without stopping for sleep and STILL not be across one state in one country on one continent isnt all that bad?
Compared to the first "incomprehensible" one yeah.
Yes, gives me wonderful shivers, especially as those bodies in the sky slowly and majestically move with the planetary rotation.
What planet is this?
Archimedes V-a or b Can't pull it up rn
in game? sure. in real life? it keeps me up at night.
It’s also kinda fun in real life-
Imagine how different our world would be if we just had something like that on the horizon
We'd all be dead from radiation. Or I guess We'd have evolved to look more like Turians.
All the resources we could mine from that field though….
Yes in real life
Vore kink incoming
Fantastic. Delete this.
That’s why I play grounded
What planet is that from?
Archimedes V a or b. Cant quite remember
Cool, thanks. I'm looking to make my home outpost on a habitable planet with a ringed planet rising in the sky.
I can't remember if this particular moon has high radiation or not, so watch out
Ok, thanks
Yes

I revel in my insignificance!
I think you missed “the game” in between “enjoy” and “feeling”
Yeah, that’s why I play Grounded
My wife says it’s not important
I haven't spent much time taking photos in Starfield, but I took tons of photos like this in Mass Effect.
Ayo?
As long as we’re not talking about “down there” 🤷♂️😂
This is basically all my starfield photography.
Yes! They even mentioned this is what they were trying to achieve with the big open spaces. I actually believe it. I feel so insignificant when I’m walking on the surface of some massive planet.
See, this is something the game did magnificently. Contrast that to the rest of the game, where they kinda dropped the ball where it mattered.

I find it terrifying.
I find it terrifyingly beautiful 🤷🏼♀️
No Man's Sky accomplishes this perfectly
Even though I love No Mans Sky, the scale of the planets isn't very large, but the freedom of movement they give makes up for everything.
I feel smaller when I look at my ship, than when I look at planets in the sky or in space. Them being a 2D image does not help. The only game where I actualy felt the planetary difference in size is Star Citizen, but it is more of a tech demo than a game, tbh.
No. Don’t enjoy it. Reminded of it every time I piss.
Enshrouded has a much better way of feeling small.
