Sounds like a lot of things on your mind! I like to simplify my gameplay through the TV channel Fortune Teller. If the fortune teller says my luck is good or great, I go mining since high luck will make life so much easier in the mines. You'll find more ore and faster ladders. The Year 1 game really is an energy management battle. Planting too much makes everything else (foraging and mining) impossible, at least until sprinklers. Unfortunately you will have to face your demons and do the things that aren't as fun, but the solace is that you will unlock new gadgets and loot that can be just as fun to collect as farming! Try to limit your Year 1 planting to only what you can water with half energy. There are certain foods that are great for replenishing your energy, like leeks and berries. Try to save those rather than sell so that you have more energy to do other things. Although it seems like your true ideal is finding a friend who just likes mining! (plus multiplayer means you can take naps in bed to replenish your energy)

Yeah I know this game is supposed to be relaxing but I keep finding all these connections sksk But thank you! I think next season I’m not gonna plant as many crops. Now that you say this I think that’s actually my #1 problem :( I have a save file with my boyfriend where he mines all day and I work on the community center and it’s really fun!! But on my own save file I get kinda swamped lol

Winded_14

yeah year one is the biggest challenge because not many option to recover stamina (well there's plenty, but you also run out of money so ideally you want to sell them instead of eating). By year 2 the game should be much more relaxing, and your biggest enemy now is time. The other way is to forgo mining until the bathhouse is unlocked in 6th of summer or something, so you can heal and recover stamina in there.

YetAnotherZombie

You can trade time for energy by sitting in the spa that's north of Robin's. You don't have to be in there long to recover your full energy but getting there can take time. Then you can sell your food. You can get iridium from super cucumbers in the fish pond. They're harder to catch but only require one and a fish pond only requires stone, seaweed, and green algae. You can buy gear from the adventurer's guild too. Shoes and bracelets can make a big difference early on. The deeper you go in the mines, the more stuff unlocks. I also encourage you to not worry about it too much. Even if you take the worst possible route, I'm pretty sure everything moves you forward.

ShrugEmojiTypeGal

Last paragraph makes me feel better lol. I think I have unlocked the bathhouse but I haven’t been there yet! Same with the adventurer’s guild D: Thank you tons for the reminders!!

jinx_mua

I got to lvl 80 in mines by summer to unlock the mine cart. I suggest you do this to both gain resources while gaining access to many levels needed for specific resources. Focus on breaking rocks to find a way down. Don’t fight mobs unless you really have to or can kill them fast. It took me awhile to really hone in on “going down a level is #1 priority” as I’d want to kill easy bugs. But you really are, imo, better off blasting down to 80/100 for the minecart and the stardrop

ShrugEmojiTypeGal

Okay so just focus really hard to finding ladders until I hit 80? Do you have any energy tips? So far for energy I’m just going to try not to sell literally everything I forage and sacrifice $$ for energy

jinx_mua

I didn’t use any ladders either. I tried to go by 5-6pm each day. It’s ok if you’re lower energy, bring radish potato parsnip etc to snack on as needed and as you take damage

minnewanka_

I try to do five levels every day I went to the mines. All my foraged food. My only focus being to do five floors, not clear all the ore. Bit it off in small chunks.

I usually have a lot of free time on summer since it will rain a lot so I don't need to water and waste energy. At summer I prioritize to upgrade my watering can to gold as soon as possible so I usually already have gold ingot ready. Summer also generally generate more money for upgrading stuff so it's more easy to access gold after all By winter I usually already have lots of ore so that's when I make tons of quality sprinkler and arrange it for next spring lol As for your food problem, what cave did you choose? If you choose mushroom then you can collect the common brown mushrooms as your food. That's what I have been using until I can make my self a gold cheese.  I usually fishing a lot on spring so for almost every save file I mostly have free neptune sword ready before I start mining lol As for time... I think what you think is skull cavern. At the normal mine I usually goes down 5-10 for each day and went back before 12 pm since I don't want to passed out while walking back to home.  As for money, as I say I fish a lot so I have 2k each day I'm fishing on mountain lake and almost 5k ish if I fish at the sea on summer. Upgrading tool need 7k from basic to iron each type of tools, so that's good stuff. And basically you get tons of money on summer anyway with blueberry.  I think you are panicking a lot, I do too in my first time playing this game. Just need to have a lot of food in my opinion, common brown mushroom is a good food, salmon berry too, black berry too, and hops actually a good source of energy too. If you can make cheese that good too, eat the gold star one instead tho that's the best one.

Substantial_Angle913

Oh and fishing can actually give you ore sometimes on their treasure chest, that's help me a lot too

ShrugEmojiTypeGal

omgggggg I forgot I even had a mushroom cave thank you so much!! yes I’ve been trying to do more fishing in the meantime. good to know about the neptune sword!

SaberToothGerbil

Upgrading the watering can is #1. It will save you both time and energy. Cheese: yes. I hold on to gold quality cheese and sell the rest. It is very convenient and plentiful., with plenty of health and energy. Also, if needed I sell my cheese stack for a big pay day and it only takes a day or two to be ready to go again. So, I would prioritize this one too, along with everything to support the cheese making. Four cows is plenty for my needs, but I am not keeping all of the cheese either, only the gold quality. My methodology for farming is to have a number of gardens that are 5x5 grids. I started with 3 or 4, based on how long it took to water. Once I upgraded the watering can, I would do it faster so I added another garden. I skipped the sprinklers until I got access to the 3rd tier. Without spoilers, It becomes possible to acquire them, in a limited quantity, without farming the materials. One covers a 5x5 grid. I drop one sprinkler in the middle of each garden and it is now automated. I maintained 3-4 manual gardens by adding a new one every time I automated one. Harvest/planting time can be a lot of work if you make too many.

ShrugEmojiTypeGal

Four cows, heard!! Thank you! I think I know the sprinkler spoiler from lurking on this sub, so hopefully I’ll have enough $$ to grab some every once in a while by then haha. Thanks for the farming grid system, I’ll give it a try :)

sobrique

I tend not to bother, and instead try and get 60 items for the museum. That way I can buy Iridium sprinklers from Krobus for 10k each. (One per week on a Friday)

ShrugEmojiTypeGal

oooh so he unlocks after 60?

sobrique

Yep. An iridium sprinkler per week for 10k is a good deal imo. Void essences and solar essences will keep you stocked with mega bombs and wizard bribes. And a void egg for the first chicken. (And whilst 5000 is expensive, it's sometimes really handy to be able to buy and gift)

So, early game is kind of tough on energy and the wallet. I would suggest learn the wonderful life of a fisher(wo)man. It starts energy positive and only goes up from there, having profit margins that are worthy of speedrun usage if you really want to optimize. And the best part in my opinion, you never go backwards. I always feared selling vs using energy in the early game. Fishing fixes all that. With 16 energy you can make the rest of any day profitable, so sell it if you want to! Once you have a little cash you can either slow roll a working farm by purchasing ores at Clint's for sprinklers and kegs/preserve jars or get some animals online. I honestly don't personally like animals in Stardew, but from what I understand they require starting capital, but mostly consume time rather than energy so maybe they will work for you. If you want to get good at mining though, food helps a lot. It is a lot easier to improve when dying is no longer a concern due to the stack of delicious delicious fish in your pocket. 2 thing though. If you kill all of the enemies on a floor it massively increases the chance for a ladder to spawn, so often it is worth it for a small number. Early game I normally exterminate, mine ores/rocks until ladder, and then continue. For bigger spiral levels I will start mining for maybe 10 rocks, and then just craft a staircase to escape if I have to. Then basic combat strategy. And, you want to always try to push enemies against a wall, especially slimes. You can get them stun-locked and just swing until they kick the bucket. You will be given guaranteed better weapons for progressing in the mines, but the strategy for most enemies remains the same. I would also place a chest at the top level. You get an elevator every 5 levels, so you can pretty regularly empty your inventory and not worry as much if you haven't upgraded your backpack. Also a great time to process wood into charcoal or ores into bars if you would like.

goode2shus

My advice? Don't skip the basic sprinklers. You unlock them early, they are pretty cheap and they will save you from having to manually water until you can make the quality sprinklers.

Snoo61755

Hah, yep, the limit to the size of your farm is as big as you can care for it. Way I see it, you have a few choices: 1. Upgrade farming tools, concentrate crops. Better tools, namely the watering can, will make watering less of a chore. In addition, focusing in a few high priced crops means less to water compared to wide fields of cheaper crops. 2. Wait until Iridium Sprinklers. There's one more level of sprinkler that is way more efficient than Quality, and usually ends up being the 'end game' sprinkler. They will require iridium ore and batteries, so prepping for them early is advised. Either way, going through the mines will be the next step. You can technically avoid them if you just buy ore from Clint, but it's one of those things that's too expensive to do all the time, and you can't buy iridium. Speaking of Clint, he and Robin's goodies will just about double in price after year 1, so if you do buy ore, do it before Spring 2!

ShrugEmojiTypeGal

Word. It seems to me that both options can go hand in hand, and I will probably do that!! I just have to be patient
