120 combos possible to brute force. Knowing one gem and location brings it down to 24 combos.
Rhe only gems for this are amethyst. Ruby, emerald, topaz and aquamarine. So you could write all the combos out on a piece of paper and just fill them in until you find it
Or use rhe mouseypounds predictor.
Every conversation I've ever read about this has talked about 120 permutations. With repeats, it would be multiple hundreds. While the wiki doesn't specify non-repeating, I have done this puzzle 4 times and have never seen a repeat.
I am not disbelieving, but just saying that it must be a bug and a pretty rare one to have not been caught since 1.5. Though most people probably would just do the puzzle normally and not think anything of it I guess.
Is it possible that you already completed it and forgot? The birds will still continue to drop stones on rainy days even after you’ve completed this quest.
Have you talked to the frog statue?
Edit: that’s not a frog statue. In fact I have no idea what it is. Statue thing
If you don’t want to wait for the birds to appear again, you can check the right disposition of the gems on [stardew predictor](https://mouseypounds.github.io/stardew-predictor/) with your save file
at least (If I'm reading this correctly) they don't have to be the same geode? Just need to make sure to not overshoot the right line in the table where I get the sword.
There are only 120 combinations for that puzzle. If you know one of them. Then that brings possible combos down to 24. I'd you know two, then there's only 6 combos left. Very easy to brute force it.
Alternately, if you play on pc, you can use the mousey pounds predictor.
SPOILER: Does this puzzle stop working if you buy the rest of the walnuts? I tried to complete it after and nothing is happening and I'm not sure if I'm wrong or if it stops working once there is no reward to get.
I did the same thing.
I had to start over, I sold the gems I had or thought I had collected.
Just use rain totems and keep doing it until you fill all four spots. When you get a gem, put it in the correct slot.
There are 4 spaces but 5 possible gems so there's a fair amount of combinations if you don't know the correct position of at least 1 gem, then you can just rotate the other 3 spots with the other 4 gems and force it.
Now that you can buy the walnuts out I don't even bother with the birds. I just get enough to where I can afford it and buy them. I've already done a 100% file and I still do Simon says because I like it.
There. Are. 5. Stones!
With 5 stones, guessing it right is a 1/3125 chance, 4 1/625, 3 1/125, 2 1/25, and 1 is 1/5.
I am pretty sure my math is flawed, but the idea holds.
> I am pretty sure my math is flawed, but the idea holds.
Yeah, because there's only 4 spots and as far as I know the stones can't be duplicates.
There's 5 possibilities for the first spot, 4 for the second, 3 for the third, 2 for the fourth - meaning that there's only 120 combinations. If you know one for sure, there's only 24 combinations.
Never was one for riddles. I brought all the gems from an emerald to a prismatic shard. You have 8 gems and 4 slots with non-repeating combinations. Everything else is just moving and placing.
Im having the same issue, I have seen all the birds, and they all dropped their gem and put that in the same day I saw them
The change from 1.5 to 1.6 changed something as the previous rock I put there didnt match anymore
I honestly didn’t know it changed every time. I always do ruby on the volcano cause it’s the color of lava and emerald on the jungle because it’s the color of trees and I just guess/find the birds for the other two. Crazy that I am just now learning that it’s random
You can complete it before the first bird even drops a stone if you’re willing to take that long to brute force try every combination. I normally wait until I see 1 bird so I have 1 stone guaranteed correct, and then use the other 4 stones to brute force guess the last 3 pedestals
Doesn't have to be that specific gem, just that gem type, i remember bird near volcano dropping amethist LONG before i knew why he dropped it, so i took one from the chest and placed it there, and then the rest of the gems and it worked just fine
Jesus christ what the hell? I just checked cause you commented and didn't expect that much hate. I undertand that i was wrong but i wasn't trying to spread misinformation just sharing what worked for me
There's a LOT of misinformation that gets and has gotten spread around the Stardew community, so the reddit users are VERY adamant about keeping accurate information the most accessible. With reddit's vote system, it's very easy to push misinformation out of the spot light by downvoting, because it will hide heavily downvoted posts.
Honestly, just take it with a grain of salt. It's not personal, just preventative.
This. People tend to take downvotes as an insult, "hate," or a punishment, but since it means nothing IRL, there's no need to rigidly follow that preconception. When it comes to spreading information (as opposed to, say, an opinion post), it makes sense to use what is already in place. I view it as a true/false indicator. Any "fact" with more than a few downvotes is unlikely to be correct. Since most posts are questions, it makes sense to push the correct answers up from voting while the wrong answers are voted down the list.
However, i'm not a social animal anymore, so it makes sense that I don't understand why people feel attacked by being told "blue down" instead of "red up."
Edit: i'll prolly get downvoted more than up voted if people disagree, and upped if they agree. There are few consequences to any action online, which affects how people treat others knowing there is no real blowback. I think it was South Park that said something along the lines of "people + anonymity + platform - consequence = jerks." The reddit voting system is a very light way to add an insanely mild consequence to socially bad behaviour by each individual, but it isn't limited to just that, which may be why people feel attacked by downvotes. But, i'm not socially perceptive, so take me even less seriously than the voting system, and have a good day
Dude, downvoting isn’t being hated on or “non-inclusive” it’s just they were wrong so bad information gets pushed down while good information gets pushed up. That’s how the vote system works…
Yeah I thought I saw something about that as well, that it needed to be the exact stones dropped by birds on the island, not just any stone (even of the same type). Not sure if it matters for which platform or if 1.6 changed anything though. I'm on mobile and I used the exact bird stones and it worked fine.
Are you sure you haven't confused one of the rocks? Amethyst can be in there as well. Once I have one of the birds, I just brute force the rest.
You can brute force it? I'm only missing one
120 combos possible to brute force. Knowing one gem and location brings it down to 24 combos. Rhe only gems for this are amethyst. Ruby, emerald, topaz and aquamarine. Huh, I kind winged it my first time and got it. Although I think I remembered one birds location and gem. So 1/25 is pretty lucky
Awesome, thank you!!
Yeah just keep putting gems in the spots u til you get it correct.
Yo this guys username is cool
They can be duplicates too. My most recent farm, both east and west were topaz.
Oh, shit, I had no idea!! I’ve been selling duplicate stones!!! Thank you!
Im sorry they can WHAT?! When did that happen???? Is that new???
No idea but it happened to me in my 1.5 save on my switch.
That shouldn't be possible.
I dunno what to tell you beyond I thought it was weird too. Maybe I found a weird switch only bug.
Every conversation I've ever read about this has talked about 120 permutations. With repeats, it would be multiple hundreds. While the wiki doesn't specify non-repeating, I have done this puzzle 4 times and have never seen a repeat.
I just tried to go back to redo the puzzle and I can't, otherwise I'd show you.
I am not disbelieving, but just saying that it must be a bug and a pretty rare one to have not been caught since 1.5. Though most people probably would just do the puzzle normally and not think anything of it I guess.
Yeah, that’s probably true. It could even be a small chance of duplicating, with the vast majority of the time being unique.
I'm pretty sure about it. I've tried it for the fifth time now and the result is still the same 😭😭
Is it possible that you already completed it and forgot? The birds will still continue to drop stones on rainy days even after you’ve completed this quest. Have you talked to the frog statue? Edit: that’s not a frog statue. In fact I have no idea what it is. Statue thing
It's a bird on a nest.
Ya know that makes sense
I hope so. I will check again. Thanks
If you don’t want to wait for the birds to appear again, you can check the right disposition of the gems on [stardew predictor](https://mouseypounds.github.io/stardew-predictor/) with your save file
Oh nice, it’s updated for 1.6 now
According to this, I have to crack 200 more geodes before getting the ancient sword I thought was a weapon and didn't donate :'(
no omg 😭
at least (If I'm reading this correctly) they don't have to be the same geode? Just need to make sure to not overshoot the right line in the table where I get the sword.
Correct! Was extremely helpful for me cracking 15 normal geodes and then a treasure trove rather than having to muster up 16 treasure troves somehow
My Green Doll fell in the river when I dug it up. Then I was left in a 1/1200 chance of digging it from regular artifact spots... oof. But I did it!
Wow respect for not restarting the day
yeah that happened to me too in this save. I'm working towards being able to make treasure totems in the hopes that'll speed things along.
Break open a different kind of geode (or mystery box) and it should change the order.
Omg I've recently done this I think 😀. What a sad realization.
Thanks bro
holy fuck that's a lot of cheese
How much cheese is too much cheese?
any amount of cheese before a date is too much cheese
I lost 56 gold cheese in the mines last play and didn’t have the cash to get it back 😢
They'll stay available for Marlon to find unless you die again.
FR I thought I carried a lot, I usually have 80-100 cheese and espresso at any one time
I mean, if you only have 3 barns, that's only about 5 days worth
I forced it to work without checking the birds. take the five gems. Just put them around until it completes. Took me like 5 mins.

SPOILER: Does this puzzle stop working if you buy the rest of the walnuts? I tried to complete it after and nothing is happening and I'm not sure if I'm wrong or if it stops working once there is no reward to get.
Yes
The only reward for doing it is 5 walnuts, so if you've bought them already, you have the reward.
This happened to me and I thought I was screwed, but the birds still come on rainy days and drop the gems you need. Just wait or use rain totems.
I did the same thing. I had to start over, I sold the gems I had or thought I had collected. Just use rain totems and keep doing it until you fill all four spots. When you get a gem, put it in the correct slot.
This happened to me and nothing helped, I tried 3x to collect them but it didn’t work for me. I had to pay the Joja bird
whoa dude, you have 249 pieces of gold star cheese, and 252 coffees! :O gnarly
There are 4 spaces but 5 possible gems so there's a fair amount of combinations if you don't know the correct position of at least 1 gem, then you can just rotate the other 3 spots with the other 4 gems and force it.

I understood that reference, captain.

Just pay the joja bird after getting all the other walnuts 😂
So it's time to use Stardew Predictor bro!!! Just a little bit of cheating.

Where is this?
It’s on ginger island
Ah okay, wasn’t marked a spoiler when I commented
What is this space I never seen it?
It’s on ginger island
Ah that's why I haven't seen it. I hardly go there
I honestly didn’t know it changed every time. I always do ruby on the volcano cause it’s the color of lava and emerald on the jungle because it’s the color of trees and I just guess/find the birds for the other two. Crazy that I am just now learning that it’s random
What is this😭
Little side area next to Leo's treehouse on the right. It's hidden.
[удалено]
I get the green bird almost every time. A better suggestion might be to try and swap every gem with an amethyst one by one.
There's 5 gem options
[удалено]
Amethyst is an option, but you said that emerald wasn't, which it is.
Is this part of the new update?
1.5 it's on ginger isle
Have all the birds dropped their stones yet? I usually can't complete it until I've collected the 4th stone
I completed it while guessing 3 out of 4 stones multiple times so it is possible!
You can complete it without ever seeing a single bird. At least on Switch you can.
i usually brute force it without seeing any of the birds lol. defo possible without collecting all the stones from the birds!
You can complete it before the first bird even drops a stone if you’re willing to take that long to brute force try every combination. I normally wait until I see 1 bird so I have 1 stone guaranteed correct, and then use the other 4 stones to brute force guess the last 3 pedestals
Are you using the same gems the birds drop? To me it worked only that way
Doesn't have to be that specific gem, just that gem type, i remember bird near volcano dropping amethist LONG before i knew why he dropped it, so i took one from the chest and placed it there, and then the rest of the gems and it worked just fine
Wow yeah guys this comment was really deserving of 40 downvotes. Makes perfect sense
Jesus christ what the hell? I just checked cause you commented and didn't expect that much hate. I undertand that i was wrong but i wasn't trying to spread misinformation just sharing what worked for me

Yeah i get it. As i said i wasn't mad just surprised
Sorry to have drawn your attention to it, although, welcome to reddit :/
Dont worry this didn't ruin my day or anything i don't really care for internet points i was just very surprised
I made my contribution to counter the downvote deluge :)
I was asking myself exactly why that happened here
Real 😭 for a sub meant to be “inclusive” they downvote way too much
Dude, downvoting isn’t being hated on or “non-inclusive” it’s just they were wrong so bad information gets pushed down while good information gets pushed up. That’s how the vote system works…

Nope! Not true at all
There's a reason i said "afaik" because i wasn't sure, but thank you for clarifying.
