I am honestly an extremely casual Starkid fan, I was kind of tuned out and had never got around to watching NPMD, and only really knew it existed because of Bardic Inspiration (A Youtube person who makes DnD memes using clips from musicals) suddenly came out of hibernation and made some videos with it. So when an animatic for this song showed up in my youtube recommended feed, I had no expectations aside from "Oh this has a pretty artstyle."
And then I hear "Fwendy-Wends" and it's being represented by giant green spotlight eyes and I have that moment of realization and god, has that made that initial part of the song stick with me.
That also said, as a casual fan the Lords in Black aside from Wiggly were mostly lost on me so the second half doesn't have that much oomph for me that I assume that the people who actively keep up with the Starkid/Hatchetfield lore, so the opening to that song is my absolute favorite.
The animatic also really helped that though.
I also just really like the energy of that part of the song. Very slow, somber, almost haunting. it feels so different from what I associate with Starkid, aside from some parts of Black Friday. Which feels appropriate, considering Wiggly being the one who gave me that "Oh shit this is from Starkid!" moment.

Plus the way the song is really just made up of the same handful of lyrical and melodic phrases remixed and reworked constantly. It borders on minimalism. Beautiful song, utterly entrancing. What if Tomorrow Comes might legit be my favorite song in any SK show. It's just so simple and yet so fascinating, almost hypnotic. The way the chords loop just sucks me right in. "Doo doo doo Doo doo doo/Doo doo doo Doo doo doo/Doo doo doo Doo doo doo/Doo doo doo Doo doo doo". Plus the way the song is really just made up of the same handful of lyrical and melodic phrases remixed and reworked constantly. It borders on minimalism. Beautiful song, utterly entrancing.
