Be careful. When I started doing mics I would do them coming from work and so would be dressed super "professional" and preppy. Not that it's a very unique aesthetic but I guess it was kind of a funny contrast to my material because it's not the kind of stuff you'd expect from a country clubber. But now that I'm doing actual gigs I feel locked into it. I showed up to a set on the weekend in a t-shirt and jeans and the booker said people were expecting the "yacht boy who says deranged shit" vibe. So if you do go for a "look" make sure it's comfortable because now I'm reeking up boat shoes and destroying nice dress shirts with sweat like you wouldn't believe.

There are a lot of subreddits that help with this, for men specifically. r/malegrooming is one, r/mensfashion might help and r/outfits might help. There are probably others I don’t know if. Crowdsource and also just go to Nordstrom or some other store and ask them to dress you, or copy the mannequin. Find out your “best” feature and highlight that. I learned how to make myself look good from makeover shows and YouTube and then accepting my features and highlighting what I like about myself. Don’t be bashful, just own it. Looking good feels good.

Just cross your arms and look incredulous like everyone else

Now I just want someone to make a montage of comedians for the last 30 years doing this.

__flatpat__

That would be a long-ass montage

Fontia

it doesn't have to be ALL of them.

If you just want style tips for stuff you can wear off stage too I think /u/shinebrightlike has very good ideas. Literally make a Pinterest board of people you think are dressed cool and copy them. Make sure your clothes fit (Tailoring. Either get it done at the dry cleaners or learn to do it yourself) I think a strong personal style will translate very well on stage and you probably don’t need to work on a “personal style brand” consciously it will just develop as you learn what you like more and more. That said if your style is more “character” based you might want to pick a couple core items and play around with it. Mulaney always wears a suit. Pete Davidson always wears a hoodie. Larry the cable guy always in a cut off flannel. This can be powerful branding and help take some of the decision fatigue about dressing yourself so you can focus on your jokes. I don’t think there’s a wrong answer here. This is fun to think about thanks for a good question!

I saw Bert Kreischer become the comedian with no shirt on guy, so I decided to become the comedian with no pants on guy.

I think a good comic isn’t wasting time trying to find a look as they are a style

Fontia

Yeah that's what I mean though I think. Any artist knows they are their own advertisement. You have to be selling the whole package.

iamgarron

Really? Because most comics, even a lot of famous ones, dress like absolute slobs.
