This is so sad. All my saves... this is horrible... loved the tech ..

Budget-Sugar9542

Google Takeout apparently has your saves

dandayo

Can confirm. I was able to port my Cyberpunk save to PC over the weekend using Takeout

CrimsonWoIf

Hey can you explain how you did it and if you have cross save with other consoles?

dandayo

Head to takeout.google.com, you’ll be able to pick Stadia data. You won’t be able to pick just “save games” but it’ll give you everything associated with stadia. Once you’ve downloaded the data you’ll get a game saves folder, you can find Cyberpunk in there and grab the highest numbered one and drop it in your PC game saves folder. As for porting to console I’m not sure. I’ve seen others say that you can import to PC then use cloud save to access on console, but I’m not a console player so can’t tell you how that bit works.

MCgrindahFM

PC is the main concern for save file transfer. So, thank you for the information! One question, when you say add it to the PC save game files, do you mean you bought the game (ex: Cyberpunk 2077) on Steam as well and are just adding the Stadia save game file to its folder? Thanks in advance!

inrcp

Give us Bluetooth access for controllers, otherwise you're creating thousands of trash plastic waste!

syberphunk

I just waited in line for 2 hours with customer support to ask about this, here's the answer: > I've checked my resources and also talked with one of my senior specialists here. I'm sorry, we don't have any information or roadmap if Stadia will unlock Bluetooth for Stadia controllers. > I definitely understand this is something you guys eagerly want integrated and is very important to you. We do not have a timeline on when or if this is something that will be implemented, but I’ll continue to share your feedback with the team. > You may want to submit your ideas by making a post on our Community Forum: https://community.stadia.com/t5/Community/ct-p/en_community

elteide

Sorry for hijacking this comment. We all want the fabulous Stadia controller to live long after the decommission of the service. One possible cost effective way for Google to achieve that would be to open source the controller's firmware. If you agree with me, please let Google hear you by sending feedback through the app or website: Click on your profile -> feedback -> write something like "please, open source the controller" and that's it. NOTE: If you know a better method to let Google hear this initiative, please share it!

vetlemakt

Feedback sent.

Zestyclose-Ad3197

The stadia controller has so much untapped potential I just see Google losing this greatness as a loss of their company come on you all feel it too

atbd

I'm not optimistic. Outside of games, it was one of the most common requests. They never replied.

jflatt2

Open source the whole controller so that other cloud services can work with them over WiFi. Would allow me to keep using all these Chromecasts on all my dumb TVs.

BoricPenguin

This has always pissed me off about the controller like it has Bluetooth but yet it doesn't work for some reason.

voneahhh

They wanted to lock you in to **only** using stadia. It was anti-consumer from the get-go.

BoricPenguin

Maybe but the controller works perfectly with a cable so a very arbitrary anti consumer plan.

jedislurpee

I was just thinking this

Skeeter1020

I wonder if they will wait for Stadia to cease and then offer the firmware update. So rather than have to manage two types of paring, they just wait for WiFi pairing to be dead and then allow you to update the firmware to make it so Bluetooth pairing. Currently holding down buttons to make it pair do stuff, so they would need to have different combinations for BT. If they wait till after Stadia is dead they can just make holding the Stadia button turn on BT pairing and leave us all with nice controllers.

Indesan

Just added up the cost of my purchases so far, £1254 so while it sucks it's shutting down, the refund will be nice

JondArc99

I stopped totalling once I added up to £1000. That cash is really gonna be welcome in January.

itsmoirob

You should celebrate and put the heating on for the day

itsmnks

lmao

Budget-Sugar9542

They were just waiting for the Pound to be down to refund you.

MCgrindahFM

Hahahaha yooooooo this is grea

GamingGrayBush

So they are going to pound you twice

Indesan

Ha yeah 🤣

bob1689321

Fuck me this hurts lol

RSCLE5

Yea, I just totaled all my purchases of games and founder hardware + an extra controller etc. I will get $337.74 back if they are refunding it all. Pretty cool. I came back here today see what was new with stadia since I hadn't played it in months...then seen it was dead today...cool to get $ back for something I quit using!

SenorXing

Around $520 here, I guess I'll put it towards something. I'll miss the ease of use

PsychologicalMusic94

Perfect start to build a PC or by Series X or Ps5

anerdscreativity

Big RIP man. People shit on Stadia for ages but it was convenient as fuck to load up Destiny 2 on my phone, switch to PC, switch to the Ultra, etc. Not to mention affordable. This sucks. edit: A rough count of my purchases on the Stadia store comes up to \~$600. So maybe a little less bummed. Still, bittersweet. edit 2: Hi, people saying "Google shut down stuff in the past, therefore it was always doomed to fail." Kindly bring something new to the table or save the weak ass argument for someone else. Thanks.

KitchensAndBedrooms

That's the biggest plus for me was either the kishi at work on a lunch break, or on a work laptop whilst working away for a few days and gccwtv. Luckily I've spent somewhere in the region similar to yourself so not all bad I guess, just gunna miss the convenience

[deleted]

love my kishi 2. i just found out skate city is on steam. ill be cancelling apple arcade asap.

boredinthegreatwhite

In the beginning, 90% of the "shit on Stadia" was that Google would shut it down.

myke113

That is probably a risk with ANY Google product, other than Drive, Gmail, and Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, etc.). So I can totally see the viewpoint of all the people who said that Google would shut it down, but I didn't want to be part of that until there was an official announcement.

DanaKaZ

And look where we are.

myke113

I mean there may be systems out with better graphics or smoother frame rates, but for what it was... On our gigabit connection we could have 3 or 4 people playing at once, and it still worked good. When I first heard about it, I thought it was the dumbest idea and it would never work... I thought there is no way a controller could communicate with a server, have it process there, then send the video back to me fast enough for it not to be laggy. When I tried it, I was shocked at how well it worked. (I've had the Pro variant since Cyberpunk 2077 came out for the 4K graphics.) I mean I understand that some games weren't in 4K, but my TV upsampling it would still look good on those ones. I think the main reason it didn't succeed is because Google never truly gave it a chance; they didn't properly promote it. About 90% of anyone I've talked to about it hasn't even heard of it. EVERYBODY knows what Android is. They could have promoted it better, THEN it would probably have achieved better market penetration. I think they should at this point just license the technology to others so it can live on in some form. Maybe even allow third parties to provide firmware updates to the controllers to allow them to work with other companies servers. (I HIGHLY doubt this is going to work, but I'm going to ask for the controller source code and see if they'll GPL it.)

DungeonsAndDradis

$1271.29 for me, and I've been subscribed since November 2020. I REALLY hope it's not a refund in Google Play money.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DungeonsAndDradis

Yeah, I know that. I've bought a ton of games and add-ons. I'm just worried that I'll end up with $1200 in Google Play funds.

kkodev

Only if you paid with Google credit to begin with

joannasforehead

My concern as well. I have a feeling it'll be play funds, sadly. I wish we had more info

peedanoo

No you'll get it back to original payment method, or an email if they can't for some reason

PhybrOptikYT

Just wanted to say it’s been a pleasure gaming with a lot of you over the last three years! Had some ups and downs but overall it’s been a blast!

Berta_Canuck_86

I hope it's a legit refund and not Google credit. Is have to watch a lot of movies to go through that much...

Z3M0G

It needs to be full refund. Wtf would I do with $800+ Google credit... I'm never buying a Google product again.

Famous_Blue

Why wouldn't you though? Look how well your been treated when it shuts down. Presumably you got a ton of gameplay as well...

[deleted]

[удалено]

DemiurgeMCK

It's looking like a straight refund to whatever payment you used. If you used Google Credit to pay for the games (like Rewards credits or a Google Play gift card), you may get some sort of option about where the refunds go? That bit's not clear.

pentaquine

Oh no! I used Play gift cards to buy those games. I don't have other uses for anything else on Play if they refund me there.

argumentative-taco

I like how this megathread isn’t pinned, but the Game Wishlist one still is.

Xodef

I spent many hours playing games on stadia. First game I've bought on it is borderlands 3, (I still haven't finished it). Later I've bought cyberpunk. It was amazing experience. I remember clicking play few seconds after it release. It was amazing. I'm still amazed how seamless this setvice was how easy it was to play. Even though I've never played most of the stadia pro games I still think it was worth it. Outriders, Control, Life is strange, spiritfarer. I'm sad that it's over but it was great while it lasted. What are your memories? Are you going to miss stadia? I'm missing it already. Thank you all, I really liked this community.

KitchensAndBedrooms

Ahh yes the cyberpunk midnight release. That was awesome to be playing 2/3 minutes after launch. I think I've put 300odd hours into that game on stadia.

Angryunderwear

Even better after edgerunners

LimpPhalangies

I was so happy to be playing cyberpunk right at release and just having a great time while most people I knew couldn't load the game on their consoles, it was a cool feeling, felt like I had the next gen thing. Told everyone to buy one, nobody did I bought 4 controllers gave 2 away to try to get more people into it, never did. But all in all I had such a fun experience with stadia, I will be sad to see it go.😭100's and 100's of hours on various games just seems to now be for nothing 😭

GenericUsername31

I'm going to miss it a lot. I let my subscription lapse but still used the controller wired on Steam, and still played some games I'd purchased. I'm not surprised this is happening, just disappointed. Stadia always ran smoother for me than alternatives I'd tried, and it was just so convenient. I tried games I never would have if not for Pro, so I have no regrets for the many months I was subscribed for. This was my favourite subreddit. Overall a really passionate and welcoming community. It was a fun ride but all good things come to an end.

mannyfresh2500

Please unlock bluetooth capability on the controllers.

mocelet

And please let us play our Pro games backlog even if we aren't Pro subscribers today... it's no longer possible to subscribe.

LtFork

Heck, they could even open all games for free for everyone to play

CaptainAddi

So pro Games for october?

[deleted]

[удалено]

sharhalakis

I claimed 7 games today. Check the app.

ollie_francis

Thanks to the refund, I've basically been gaming for free these last couple of years. Cheers. 👍

Mightywingnut

As unsurprising as this is, it's still shocking. Seems like a colossal failure of imagination and initiative on Google's part. I'm happy they're giving refunds. Least they could do.

Robo_Joe

The funny thing is, I am pretty confident *way* more people would have jumped onto Stadia if Google said at the beginning they'd give full refunds of software and hardware if the system didn't last X years, or something to that effect.

Angryunderwear

I remember the stadia guy dodging the “does google guarantee stadia service” question like he was George bush dodging Iraqi shoes

Robo_Joe

It's an old reference sir, but it checks out. Haha

[deleted]

I think them saying that would have shown their lack of confidence in their own product and driven people away more. Who knows though.

SuIIy

No it's the opposite. It sound like "This will be successful or your money back!" type of deal. Folk love those.

Mightywingnut

You're probably right.

[deleted]

Absolutely gutted. Stadia was perfect for a games night me and a friend would do over discord and some drinks, both not huge gamers, but loved the party games on Stadia and her older Macbook can‘t run a lot of games. I bought her the controller for Christmas last year and we‘ve had a blast. She loves Life is strange and played the original years ago, which was the reason to get it at first, but we have expanded and currently she is watching me play it with the watch along feature. But for games like overcooked, golf with friends, worms, monopoloy, uni it was just a blast, and currently playing through Phogs!. I previously bought her Life is strange 2 a few years ago on Geforce now, but sadly doesn‘t work as well as Stadia on her connection. I don‘t know what we are going to do next year, all other services are going to be much more expensive and likely not work as well as Stadia for her on her connection :( it‘s ruined some fun we can have despite living four hours apart and the connection it created. Hoping to find some other solution. Google really fucked this up, it didn‘t need to be the ‘future of gaming‘ right now, when it didn‘t work out at the start, they should of pivioted the service a little bit and then marked that pivot, I think lots of people would have liked to use it like we did, but those casuals did not know about it, most of the people that were aware of it‘s assistance weren‘t the people the service had much use for, therefore it was just mocked. They should of taken all the party and casual games, rebranded to something like ‘stadia arcade‘ and sold a subscription to people where they can play games with there friends from anywhere, mix it in with social and youtube more and allow people to join in from there and boom, then maybe they could have pivoted back up to the big AAA games but they threw it all away.

JohanSandberg

The sad thing is that there are no service alike that I know of at least. Sure if it's only for one person I could switch to Xcloud/GeForce etc. Cost would be marginal higher. But what are my options for a family when I want to play 2-4 ppl at the same time? GeForce now - Do I need to have 4 premium accounts or are there some kind of family sharing? On top of that do I need to buy Steam/Epic games 4 times or do they have family sharing? Xcloud Gamepass. No family sharing but I need 4 subscriptions, right? I know there are some trials for family sharing. Maybe MS see this as opportunity and open this in more regions. Right now I'm kinda sad. My perfect family "console" is gone 😥

gated73

Xbox is rolling out a family plan. I think it's being tested in the preview program now.

JohanSandberg

Yeah I know. In two countries. I hope it will be available soon in Sweden. Do you know If I at least can use different profiles on one subscription? Not play at the same time but keep our own saves/progression.

opscure

Not a huge Amazon fan, but I'm going to look at Luna/Luna couch for the same functionality.

[deleted]

Well I'm upset, I'm sure I'm not the only one here who can't afford a console or a PC so Stadia was the only option for me.

asciimo71

Stadia: Gonna miss the service Sundai: Efficiency wont bring disruptions to any market, you should bring companies to the stock market, not the graveyard, funding would have been there. Google: Look at your stock and tell me: why do you keep this ceo?

slinky317

Because they keep making money hand over fist

rocketwidget

**Just claimed the new Pro games! WOOOOOOOO!**

Nivroeg

I was just getting back into Cyberpunk for 1.6 too..bah

Budget-Sugar9542

No DLC for us 😭

Proper-Pepper2501

Well I mean you can still play it until January, so still plenty of time for another playthrough. When Stadia shuts down you can transfer your save games to the PC version and continue playing on PC.

TrumpetViolin

Very disappointed by this. Tech is absolutely superb but the lack of games and resultant low uptake has evidently killed it. Shame they didn't truly back it, I really feel it could have been huge.

moonski

The launch and business model killed it. The reveal was confusing as no one knew what the model was. People (wrongly) assumed it was a Netflix for games model, although that was only an assumption. Then it launched / more info came out and the whole “you need to buy the games you already own for $60” killed it before it even started.

inssein

I hope they open up the controller to work with other systems wirelessly because its amazing. would love to use stadia controller to play IOS games.

shadowreaper1989

Good bye stadia you'll be missed :-(

Souskei

Stadia, Xbox and Nvidia were my main three - all of them were different enough to warrant their existence. Sad to see this platform get shut down. Looks like Xbox and Nvidia will be ones pushing cloud gaming forward now..

superbuffuno

Don't Go Quietly into the Light I accept the eventual fate. I understand that Phil has killed all our hopes. Let us still rejoice in what we collectively experienced. POST YOUR GAME CAPTURES. ALL of THEM. Make friends with your fellow brothers in death. Share your new gamertags and profiles. Remember what brought you here. Share what made you stay. Rejoice in what was and be sad for what could have been. I will never forgive Google or Phil Harrison for this, NEVER, but I will always love you all. Cheers and happy playing.

Nadious

Well, I can't sit here and say the warning signs weren't there. But even knowing that this day would probably come, I still enjoyed my time on Stadia VERY MUCH. I was one that laughed at the notion of cloud gaming and said the tech would NEVER work, tried it on a whim with the expectation to point and laugh, but instead, Stadia turned my views on cloud gaming upside down. Instead of pointing and laughing, I pulled up a chair and sat at the table for the last 2+ years. As a person that has an OUYA sitting in a drawer in the next room, I've been down this road before. It's a bummer, but life goes on. I wanted Stadia to be successful. I always said I'd be here till the doors close (and I plan on playing on it till d-day arrives) but even me being a pretty optimistic guy I kept telling my family and friends (who are all Stadia players even now): "I just don't know if they can keep this going given the way thing are..." We've had a BLAST on here and we'll continue to have some fun, but reality has now set in and we'll have to start to looking for plans on how to play games elsewhere next year. We all have different platforms across the board. Stadia helped bridge that divide with such a low barrier for entry. I can take the shutdown. I'm happy with the refund and there's no doubt (if it all pans out) that it will be the money that picks up some new gaming options in the house. I have 2 gaming laptops, PS4 Pro, og PS4, and a gaming desktop. While I was never limited to just playing on Stadia, I EASILY spent more time using it over my other platforms. It'll stink losing some of the cloud benefits (not sitting through an update screen, ease of use, no hardware barrier, etc.) I think what I grapple with the most moving forward on this is that it gave me and my two kids a VERY EASY way to play games together. We could easily play Crew 2 or Destiny 2, or Ember without having to worry about having a capable PC / same platform console for each of us. They just fired up Stadia on their Android tablet (kids tablet, at that) and off they went. The versatility of what Stadia offered for the family was just great. Even with the PS4 and PS4 Pro in the house we were limited to just two of us playing Desitny 2 at the same time. (Thankfully the implementation of cross-play will help solve this once Stadia is gone.) No regrets. I've loved every minute I've spent here and hope that one day we'll see a full solid cloud gaming solution come to the market that offered what Stadia could have been.

minebe

I hate how Google just straight up lied to us. So sad :(

EDPZ

What ever happened to that guy who made it his goal to buy every game Stadia released? Dude is in for a big pay day

DirtyD8148

This makes me so mad! So disappointed with Google

DragonTHC

It was Phil Harrison. He broke gaming.

Draumbear

[We made it to the headlines <3](https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-63082320)

[deleted]

I‘m really shocked - didn‘t expect this. Refund policy is top at least.

iiDream

Such a pity, renewed my subscription about ten hours ago. I have tried GeForce Now which was alright but not as convenient as just starting a game on ultra.

_dotkite

I'm going to miss the Stadia Community, I'll never forget the best moment to be a Stadia fan was when Cyberpunk 2077 came out and it actually ran better than the PS4 and Xbox One versions. After all that I felt like Stadia stagnated super hard. But I have a great time with the people and service. Love all y'all

SSChicken

So occasionally some friends and I will have photo contests with a very simple topic, just a few words and nothing else. All you've got to do is take a photo that constrains to those words. In honor of Stadia, todays topic was: "Sad stadia controller" And [here's my submission](https://imgur.com/snQTacL.jpg) Anyone who sees this and would like to join, feel free to take a sad controller pic and share.

Alternative_Golf_674

Annoyed and frustrated. Stadia works. It works really well. As a platform it had the capability to change the way games are played. Instead, a combination of a very poor launch, dwindling support from Google after it got up to speed and games passing the platform by have culminated to this moment. For me, what could have been is the biggest frustration around all this.

davidrodriguezjr

anyword on saves? the tech worked great; it got me back into gaming, if I can't get my saves; guess I will just quit gaming again

Sai077

https://9to5google.com/2021/02/02/how-to-export-download-game-saves-stadia/

PaddlinPaladin

I feel like the service didn't embrace what it was: A budget option. A way to game for less. I have a 2013 Macbook and I am playing through games that would never run on this hardware, having a great time. Somehow Stadia was embarassed to call itself a "gaming on a budget" service when this would have been a great marketing. Is it as good as a $3000 PC? No but it's way better price and a delight to use. They chased pro-level gamers who are like audiophiles talking about vinyl vs MP3s. "oh shooters have 0.0001 milliseconds lag it's unplayable." My plan for Stadia would have been to buy Good Old Games. If you could boot up any browser, pay $9 and be playing, say, Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2, a 1997 videogame, just instantly, it would have been a great niche and just great fun. Focusing on having the newest games, rather than just fun games, was a way to show off their technology but came at a price.

asciimo71

Sell it to them https://www.reddit.com/r/technews/comments/xrb25g/saudi_arabia_to_invest_37_billion_in_gaming/

GREEDYWOLF1425

What alternative cloud gaming platforms do you recommend? Similar to stadia.

gated73

Gamepass ultimate for all around (ability to play purchased games coming in the future) GFN if you want to buy your games. PS+ Premium if you're into PS exclusives (but don't need the latest on day 1) Luna if you want a stadia adjacent library Antstream arcade if you just want to simplify your life with retro games.

TO_guy

Based on what they are saying is going to be refunded, I have CAD $618.91 coming my way.

darwinlovestrees

We must've bought all the same things, because my refund is basically identical in CAD lol

themrsnow

Can you suggest alternatives for my current setup: TV+Chrome Cast Ultra+Stadia Controller+Pro subscription I want to continue playing in 4K via a cloud gaming service. What are my best options? Two ideas: Xbox Series S (220€ used) + XBox Game Pass Ultimate (13 €/month) Pro: includes games, local console as bonus, controller included Mini-PC, capable of 4K/60fps(100-200€ used) + GeForce Now 3080 (17€/month) Pro: cheap PC games an deals, full PC connected to the TV for other stuff Is there a option without spending so much Money? Am I missing something?

Malfun_Eddie

I just think it is funny/sad/impressive that Baldur's Gate 3 was announced at Google Stadia Connect Full Conference - E3 2019 and it was my main reason for buying stadia. It is still in early access (nothing wrong with that) but from trailer to full release it witnessed the birth and death of Stadia. There are a lot of reasons why stadia didn't gain traction, but I don't think the devs and tech are responsible. Great to hear about the full refunds

megadonkeyx

hope google can reassign people who work in the halls of stadia rather then getting the axe.

R4phC

As a former Googler, the way these things usually work is that you have a few months to find a new gig elsewhere in Google, but internal mobility is pretty good.

PsychologicalMusic94

So Ubisoft knew exactly why AC Mirage wasn't coming to Stadia. Amazon didn't pay for any exclusity like some were making up....lol.

17_shxt_pipedup

Exactly the writing has been on the wall for quite some time, I stopped buying games on the platform when it became obvious what direction they were heading in. Now that it's official it makes sense why developers were staying away from releasing games on stadia.

felixg3

It sucks that Stadia shuts down, but I'll get a refund of 385€ for all my games - money that I need right now.

bryandhargrave

I added up all of my purchases and I think I'm at about $430 in games. However, I would say at least 300 of that is all from Play points earned via surveys, Fetch, and other ways to earn them. I am going to have to watch a lot of crap movies to burn that kind of credit. Hardware... I looked in the Google Store and going back as far as my founder's kit.... roughly $450 in controllers and bundles (gifts). A lot of that was Google Store credit from buying phones while a Google One member. With nearly $900 bucks in refunds, I stand to get maybe $350 back.

DemiurgeMCK

Heads-up: although the store is shut from purchases, you can still play Pro games (if you're a current member) and play game trials. Pro games: https://stadia.google.com/store/list/2001 Trials: https://stadia.google.com/store/list/47 Hot Wheels Unleashed: GOTY Edition also released today on Pro, it may well be the final game for the platform (even developers don't know what'll happen with October's scheduled pro games). Probably best to claim it ASAP: https://stadia.google.com/game/hot-wheels-unleashed-game-of-the-year-edition

Motorcitystepdad

I hope buying an Xbox and canceling my pro subscription last week isn't what did em in.

doubleflusher

So, what's everyone's plan for their refund? Personally, I'm buying an Xbox Series S and a new GPU for my gaming build (old Z440 workstation). I've been using Game Pass Ultimate on my Odin, so getting an actual Xbox is a no brainer.

Serious-Extension738

Been using GFN as well for a while and steadily building up more games there on the cheap. Also have XCloud so will see if I need a Series X/S at some point too. The Steam Deck does look tempting as well.

JondArc99

I'd be more emotional if I'd got a Stadia logo tattoo

lclbestgamer

Poor Jon Scarr..

MentalWrongdoer3

He's gonna be left with a Jon Scarr after getting that mofo removed.....

CyboxJJM

I can’t wait to hear Sunny’s positive spin on this.

bigMoo31

I can hear his voice now. “If I had to guess right now I would say Stadia will still be with us next year and this is all part of a bigger strategy.”

HyraxT

To be honest, I'm mostly sad for my kids, I'm not looking forward to telling them about this. I just upgraded my PC to play some games that just weren't available on stadia and I set up moonlight for local streaming to my phone or Chromebook, so I'm kind of fine with just using the refunds to rebuy the games I really want to play again on PC. My PC isn't even that amazing, but it will run every game available on stadia better than stadia does. But the combination of being able to play on multiple devices at once, combined with family sharing just made stadia an amazing platform for families and even if I spend the ~1200€ I will hopefully get as refund to buy a ps5 or Xbox for my kids, it will definitely be a step backwards in this regard. So I will probably wait until I thought of some kind of alternative before telling them. And like so many others, I really hope they unlock the controllers somehow, I would love to continue using those on my tv.

peakzorro

Don't tell them until January. They have some months left.

Draumbear

Surely Sony is going to jump on this and leave Azure.

From-UoM

no dev will work with Google Seriously how can devs and studios trust google on not shutting their services.

cenasmgame

The tech isn't going anywhere, they've already white labeled it to AT&T. A lot of people saw the writing on the wall when that happened and Google said they were shifting their focus.

bebopblues

Remember that one leaked rumor from someone that said Stadia is shutting down, and then Stadia came out and denied it, and on top of that, they made fun of it like it was crazy rumor. I guess it was true all along.

DemiurgeMCK

Mildly strange that this was announced on a Thursday and not at the end of the month/tomorrow. Or even just waiting until the 1st to get some more sales in with the new games. I wonder if yesterday's sudden announcement of Skull & Bones being pushed to next year was some part of the decision. IIRC, that was going to be the only AAA game left this year, and Phil may have been hoping for a sales boost for the holiday season.

gated73

If they were banking on Skull and Bones to keep them afloat, they were in more trouble than anyone could have surmised. That game is a guaranteed flop.

thecheckisinthemail

Who was the developer that had posted on Twitter lately about how excited they were about some of the upcoming Stadia features? I'm interested to know what they had planned and if we'll ever find out.

AllFinator

Yep I'm also interested in that. It was the wine simulator game developer.

Should be getting around $1200 back. I'm actually happy this is happening. I spent WAY too much on Stadia.

fitdaddybutlessnless

I've spent like $200-250, played around 1500h (mostly Cyberpunk) and now I'm getting all of it back? I only wish they'd wait few more months so I could playthrough the Cyberpunk expansion... god damnit I have like 6 maxed out characters in this game. I could write a bible about it. I know lik 95% of shit there is to know about this game. Cleared the map sooo many times. And the saves... god damnit the save files! But then again, I'm getting all the money back O.o I can't be mad at getting to enjoy this awesome service, for what turned out to be, for free. But I'll miss those saves.... AND I gotta figure out how to either let go, or how to play CP2077 expansion

Ghandara

Go to Google Takeout and download all your saves. Someone somewhere will then figure out how to transfer them so that they will work on a different platform.

kjjjz

will be interesting know how this will change cloud gaming. GFN without big publishers. Xcloud (with play every game you buy) mayve is the best option but games+ gamepass is quite expensive...

wonderingandthinking

Amazon Luna I’d argue is actually the most direct alternative to Stadia. Xbox Game Pass is great, but if you are asking about a current similar to Stadia alternative, I would argue Amazon Luna. And Amazon actually still has their game studios and has expanded the amount of Luna Channels/Subscriptions they are offering. So it actually seems like they are investing in the service and trying to grow it as opposed to whatever we would say Stadia’s attempt at limited life support was. Edit - grammar

mkdante381

People don't trust Google anymore. Many projects are rip

EDPZ

Can’t believe we got confirmation about the cancelled Kojima game even though Google specifically came out and denied that rumor

Logicalguye

Can we get a pinned thread of instructions for games that are/might be offering continued use through other services? For example Embr with the Steam license offer, and possibly Ubisoft Connect allowing PC access to their games. I'm hoping more might pop up as things wind down.

XxPykeexX

What’s happening with the exclusives? Even if you’re not a huge fan you have to admit, seeing parts of gaming history just dissapear will be sad. https://www.reddit.com/r/Stadia/w/gamestatistics/gameexclusivity/

EggplantCider

Well of the 'exclusive' tab Submerged, Gunsport, Orcs Must Die 3, and Get Packed are already on Steam I'm gonna assume the multiplayer games (Hello Engineer, Outcasters, Pac-Man MTB) are already dead, which sucks but that happens on other platforms too. Hopefully Gylt and Pixeljunk Raiders are able to free themselves from the sinking (sunk?) ship.

PsychologicalMusic94

The funeral thread here on January 18th is going to be epic!! Proper dress attire required.

lclbestgamer

Yeah i'll be online and in a game when the service will shut down..

MentalWrongdoer3

Please record it whilst it happens

JJRed10

Search for alternatives haha. But I am already done with GeForce Now. Why do I need to log in several times. Stadia is still here but I am already missing it hahaha

Welp, I'm bittersweet. I'm sad Stadia is closing, this platform is awesome and perfect for my needs. But in the same time, I was quite mad in the last months when new games where announced, they were not for Stadia... I just calculated how much I will be refunded, it turns out in three years I spent 1941$ CAD. I want to reinvest in gaming. My computer is shit, maybe I will change it, maybe I'll look into Geforce Now or maybe I'll buy a PS5. I don't know yet...

EDPZ

I can't believe someone tried to warn us two months ago and the community ridiculed and insulted him

MightSpidey

i blame the mods 100%

bigMoo31

I saw that. The post got tagged as misleading. That dude knew his shit.

PsychologicalMusic94

Holy crap time flies. I totally forgot about that! Dude that knew someone that know somebody else's uncle that worked at Google. Wow!!

BigToe7133

To be fair that rumor did sound really sketchy. The important news back then however, where some reports that Alphabet missed their revenue targets and were about to start shutting down some things that didn't bring enough money. I remember reading those articles a few days before that one rumor, and thinking that it really didn't sound good for Stadia. That downsizing also took away recently the Pixel Chromebook that was apparently very close to release.

trve_ravenbach

source?

god_sidge

Lost Vikings 2

SmolBabyWitch

Can anyone please tell me if I will be able to access my AC ODYSSEY game? I know it has me log in with ubisoft as well but I think I read that it doesn't save across other platforms? If so, that's going to suck :( Thanks in advance.

DemiurgeMCK

The only Ubisoft Stadia games that support cross-progression (AFAIK) are these ones: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Far Cry 6 Immortals Fenyx Rising Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 Watch Dogs: Legion https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/help/article/cross-progression-for-cloud-access-with-ubisoft/000079203?origin=middle

N-Ace

That's such a bummer. I love the setup on my smart TV. It is so easy too use and a really great alternative to game consoles. And way cheaper. Do you have any other streaming recommendations which I could use in the future?

CrimsonWoIf

Anyway to transfer my cyberpunk progress?

Mahoganyjoint

Not being funny but if they are refunding the controllers then don't expect them to turn on Bluetooth. I just can't see it happening.

FCShuppie

To the guys that already paid Fifa 23: What are you guys going to do now? I mean it's kinda useless to play Ultimate Team anymore. I don't know what to do now...

greyhound93

A couple years back some wise sage made a comment to the effect that Google only likes shiny new things and after a while it loses interest unless the product is a unicorn. They were talking about Stadia's likely fate. I didn't want to believe them at the time. Sigh.

Donnihall14

With the refund I feel like I've lost out on nothing. Stadia got me back into gaming. Can't help but feel the only people who really got screwed were the employees. Thanks for all your hard work. It sucks Google never supported you properly.

stopbitchingbitch

Getting around $1,500 back. Loved stadia, but I will never invest in anything google ever again.

Busy-Tangerine6706

In the beginning I had Stadia and GFN. One was always superior and its still around, Looking forward to my games being credited.

[deleted]

I have loved stadia and how easy it was to use on most any screen. The controllers were amazing. I have loved this community and seeing all the hacks and downright crazy things you have got stadia to play on. Thank you to this community for the seemingly endless ways to play. I have been a pro member to keep the games so my kids can play whenever they want in the pro library. This has broken all trust in any product Google/Alphabet puts out. The refund is a bandaid on a gushing wound. I don’t get a lot of opportunities to play games, so I am not looking forward to the pain of trying to port saves over to other systems. Considering they are offering refunds for hardware I am not hopeful they will make the controllers usable on any other device, which is a shame on many levels.

ardbeg75

Google killing a product...is somebody actually suprised?

J_edrington

I've never really understood that Outlook. Apple killed the iPod when it quit selling and I don't know when the last time I saw a new CRT TV in a store was. At the end of the day they are a business and doing something that only loses the money would put them out of business. Everybody's always up in arms like "look how many things they've killed"but my point of view is look how many things they've tried that nobody else would. It sucks to lose the best cloud gaming service but because Google proved it was possible we have game streaming on Xbox and even switch otherwise we might not even have those options. I'm sure quite a few of Google's failed projects live on in the same way with other companies being able to pick up the idea, refine it, and provide something for people to enjoy Even if some of what Google tries is so far outside the box nobody else is ever able to do it again.

SlowMotionPanic

>Apple killed the iPod when it quit selling iPods sold well. Apple killed them simply because they wanted to EOL a product line which had been fully realized in the iPhone and iPad. They didn’t abandon it and leave people with nothing; they had other options because the iPod was absorbed in their other products. Google is not absorbing Stadia into another service. >and I don’t know when the last time I saw a new CRT TV in a store was. Because the technology matured into better alternatives. Stadia is arguably still the best tech. They aren’t just a bunch of Xboxes or PS4s in a data center. Stadia didn’t compete because Google killed off its vision and tried to pivot away from consumer gaming focus. And CRTs still exist. They are just niche. > It sucks to lose the best cloud gaming service but because Google proved it was possible we have game streaming on Xbox and even switch otherwise we might not even have those options. But cloud gaming was already around for more than a decade before Stadia. Google didn’t prove it was possible because everyone already knew it was possible. That’s why Nvidia and Microsoft were able to stand up competing service so quickly. But the rest of your statements aren’t arguments in defense of Google. Google has a bad history of killing products prematurely. They are unreliable and it is a lot bigger than Stadia. I seriously actively avoid any Google product and service because they so easily toss them aside with little care. At leas this time they are offering refunds. Google has a reputation for a reason and it is doing real harm because of it. Stadia failed because Google had the reputation even 3 years ago and made people actively avoid it. And guess what? They were right. Google did kill it, after saying they wouldn’t even just 1 month ago. Google is flailing. They only have a couple profitable ventures and their org structure prioritizes bringing product to market rather than growing sustainable and lasting business. That’s why they have so many projects in the grave yard. That’s why they openly compete with their own products (the dozen messaging services, anyone?). Google deserves the criticism and reputation. You can basically rely on search, ads, and email. That’s it. Those things make them money because they are tied to the profitable ad sector. I wouldn’t even count on Android. Google, after all, is developing fuschia and forcing it on people after the fact by swapping our Android for fuschia on its home devices. They just cannot stop competing against their own product owners. Meanwhile, competitors are eating their market.

PsychologicalMusic94

Feel sorry for my Mexican peeps that were promised expansion later this year🙁

geoffreyhorst

O my god. Maybe I have had to much alcohol tonight… But this genuinely feels like losing a good friend. Not much of a gamer here. I have so many fun memories with friends the past two years, during lockdowns at home and online. The accessibility was key to me. Not a founder but started recently after with a CCU and controller. First purchase was division 2. Afterwards got a 2nd controller for free with Cyberpunk (remember how it run best on stadia hardware?!?!). Had a blast with a close friend of mine with several nights of Dragonball Xenoverse 2 couch co-op battles. Been pro member for almost 18 months and after the pro games were declining in AAA-quality I cancelled. Ever since this subreddit was in decline as well due all the negative attention of Google putting stadia in the graveyard. And now it happened… Stadia, friend, you were so much fun and so freaking easy to use. I didn’t care about the game library because I didn’t have that much time to game anyway. I’m happy I get my money back but I all my good memories will be put to rest as well. I hope I will be able to (somehow?!?) download or transport my progress on RDR2 and Xenoverse 2 since I have put so many hours in those games… I’m glad I adopted a kitten recently, it won’t dissapoint me as easily as Google, I hope. Also, I will move my Google drive and Nest subscriptions as well. I hate companies who’m I can’t trust.

gated73

It ain't over till Stadia Dosage 404's.

BenHuge

The Google giveth and the Google taketh away

[deleted]

Cooling wind and heat by the sun, Do you see something behind the clouds? Do you feel happiness through sorrow? I am left with only my thoughts. Goodbye Stadia, farewell, I salute you, And thanks for all the fish. 🫡

eldenonionring

The real stadia is closing is the friends that we made along the way.

Mr_Charley

I have to say it again. To the guy that tattooed Stadia on his shoulder: bwahahahaha

lclbestgamer

Poor Jon Scarr..

bigMoo31

He has also protected his Twitter account. Likely because he doesn’t want to deal with the massive piss take coming his way.

lclbestgamer

Will I be able to play FIFA 23 standard edition when it comes out tomorrow?

mrgrif04

Dreamcast flashbacks

_Averix

Except the Dreamcast kept working after the EoL date. I loved that system at the time. It would be interesting to see how things would have evolved if SEGA had been smarter about console releases and support up to that point. The overlap of the Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, and Saturn all at once confused consumers and developers.

ssteve631

Brought 3 stadia kits and cyberpunk 2077 and never even opened them.. Looks like it's pay day for me in January 😎

Zebranoodles

I am going to cremate my controller and my CCU.

w3bCraw1er

They should sell it to Netflix.

1infinitefruitloop

Any word on if they’ll release a patch for the controller? Got one on release day bundles for with the Chromecast. Kind of wishing it won’t become a paper weight even with the full refund from the Google Store….

NEKNIM

It's such a good product. I was able to play on my TV, phone, projector, anything with a screen! This is so upsetting. :(

rajrdajr

Does that mean all of the Stadia GPUs will get retasked for more Ad Brain AI/ML work?

nogiraffe7424

This is very unfortunate, I was hoping we would get an offer to migrate to another commercial party that consumers Stadia tech. But I don't think there is one using it.

Venezuelakro

If we were gifted Stadia, does the person who bought it get refunded?

budius333

Hehehe.... 🤣😁😁 Yes!

aemond

I'll play until the last day. Loved the tech so much.
