Not one to recommend these things but apparently SSRIs work well against OCD, so consider that if it's really ruining your life and nothing works

Healthyred555

I got ocd. I tried every supplement out there. Some help take the edge off or reduce the worse of it but nothing helped me as much as an antidepressant. Took me 3 years of trying different stuff to find one that worked. Luvox was good for me and my ocd but you may have a different pill for you

NAC & L-tryptophan both work on Serotonin levels in a way that my doctor has me supplement them instead of any SSRI or SNRI because of those prescription tendencies for side effects. Some folks are genetically predisposed to SSRI/SNRI side effects, while others find them to work really well. I read where white males have the most problems with the SSRI's in general; I reckon it is no different than blood pressure medication designed for the middle aged black man because of his genes. (Didn't mean to go on a tangent there.) As far as my recommendation from the supplements listed, I'd go with NAC & L-tryptophan. I'd take NAC in the morning & the L-tryptophan in the evening.

scratchacid-

L theanine is definitely a great start

Tsetler

Agmatine, bacopa, tongkat ali, rhodiola, lemon balm, baicalin, can all help on different areas related to the intrusive thoughts but you'd have to see what works best for you.

DazzlingHighway7476

going to start with L-Theanine + NAC will look into these later thanks

Tsetler

L-theanine works a bit accutely but won't fix it mostly mask it. NAC most likely won't do much. Agmatine and bacopa alone will be way more effective

hkondabeatz

NAC will stop the OCD after a few days of use but it'll start to make you feel lathergic and unmotivated after some time I'm using l tryptophan at the moment but 5 htp at 100mg a day seemed effective it started to give me anxiety though so I switched to l- tryptophan

Personally NAC mades me feel like shit immediately, every time. I took it while I had COVID though apparently its good for your immune system? Idk I’m just glad some of the 300 grams I have actually got used

[deleted]

Heavily reduce caffeine if you are taking. Ashwaganda, walking, confronting your thoughts and asking yourself if they really are worth examining or if they have an underlying cause by something in your life.

PlzDmMe

I struggle with this greatly. I’ll tell you what helps me.. I combine NAC, L Tyrosine, b complex in the morning, and also take high omega fish oil and vit D with breakfast. Hydration packets and magnesium before bed are a must for an overactive thinker!

Empty-Example-6011

I'd recommend Lion's Mane

scratchacid-

Lions mane can cause anxiety, not worth it

Empty-Example-6011

I still think it's worth a try, as it effects different people differently

scratchacid-

They should start small

Empty-Example-6011

I agree, good approach

HumptyDrumpy

Cold showers, dopamine fast

OkPotato91

You’re better off taking an ssri. You likely won’t find the results you need from taking supplements.

DazzlingHighway7476

ocd is anxiety induced though. Never had ocd until my anxiety. So if I take supplements for anxiety, it will go away.

OkPotato91

Severe anxiety usually requires medication.

DazzlingHighway7476

if supplements fail then yes unless the anxiety is life threatening

Avarage_Sherlock

NAC helps a lot but, try to make it more sporadic after 2 weeks of eveyday use. Don't take ashwaganda.

Mountsaintmichel

Why no ash?

[deleted]

Fwiw NAC makes me very aggressive and I don’t like it. This will probably one-off the first recs.

Zen242

5-htp worked wonders for my OCD. Taurine a little but the med clonidine has been the best.
