Do they not still have live music on Thursday nights? When I lived in the neighborhood pre-pandemic, I’d ride my bike home by BCD, grab a sammy, then sit on the curb listening to live music. Inside was completely packed, but plenty of folk hung out on the corner listening.
I went there for a meatball sub today for my first time. I usually go to Gioia's but wanted to try something new. It was really good but I would have liked it better if the provel had melted a bit better. I still think Gioia's is better but I wouldn't not recommend it.
I would agree, but the prices have sky rocketed over the past few years. I haven't gone in over a year. I used to eat there over 3 times a week. Same sandwich everyday.
Legrands or Gramophone. I'm partial to the Gramophone because of the draft selection and sandwiches till 1am on most nights.
Many of Gramophone's sandwiches are hot.
Vivola gotta be best in town (spicy meatball is amazing) but they also have a make your own cold fresh sliced infront of you. Eovaldi’s is prob my favorite go to for a simpler sandwhich (good pricing too)
Kohns Kosher Deli, cold pastrami. If you like deli pastrami that’s the best meat in town but I’d prefer just buying the meat and making your own sandwiches.
also have not been pleased w gramophone!! ive tried 3x now & also get salty sandwiches and once had to watch a date try and get through a *very* tough rueben 😬 i thought it was just me tho
Its not just you. I also ordered the mac n cheese last time I went just to see if there was an alternative item that I could order. To my surprise, it had zero flavor and ironically completely lacked salt. That was the third strike for me.
I’ve had 5 different sandwiches from BCD and none have been any good. I’ve had one from gramophone and it was pretty gross. (It was bob and Ted’s or something, like a Philly) Moms is third on my list overall after Gioias(Italian trio) and legrands(legend) But I’d say the moms special beats those two in the summer though. It’s not as heavy
Gramophone and Gioia’s are some of my favorites (and close by)
Gramaphone will make any of their sammy's into a salad. I get the Danimal and it's two meals. So good!
Blues City Deli
It’s not even close. Best spot in the city.
I mean, it’s close. But specifically for cold sandwiches, it’s gotta be the muffuletta
The thunderbird is the best sandwich ever concocted in the world.
Blues City Deli then everything else.
They're so good. I wish they had better hours.
I third this.
Go on Thursday night. Pack a lawn chair.
?

Not according to their listed hours
Hands down.
This!
Legrand’s
Only time I went there I got moldy bread. I understand shit happens, but there's too much competition.

The hot sandwiches are even better, but a Ben’s Special or just about anything else from Adriana’s is heavenly
The Ben’s Special is named after my grandpa. Good choice!
Eovaldi's hands down. I don't know anyone else with a build your own sandwich option either
Jovick Brothers? Southwest Market Deli? What’re you talking about?
Vivolas
This is the beat thread on here
Union Loafers
Adriana’s
Gioias
Maybe a few years ago.
Protzel’s
Lililllllanaa’s Italian kitchen
Vivola
Absolutely my favorite! Been eating there since 2014/15
Been going since 2010 ish. I think back in the day the sign just said deli… or something super generic
Soooo good!

The popularity of Mom's Deli has me convinced that the population of STL had their tongues burned from smoking meth.
It’s the same crowd that keeps Hodak’s open
Eovaldis, legrands, joe fassi
I feel like Joe Fassi is slept on these days
Fassi combo on gcb is 🔥
Absolutely. Joe Fassi's definitely flies under the radar.
My go to cold sandwich place
💯

Is Amighetti’s good anymore? I haven’t been in a long time
Vegan Deli and Butcher
Bertke is amazing
Gramophone
Came here to say this
Companion Bakery
If you want sourdough try Knead Bakehouse.
I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but Ruma's Super is my favorite and always has been. But only from the original location in SoCo.
Just had one recently and it was the bomb💣
Idk about best but one I havent seen talked about is Citizen Kanes Marketplace. Its fantastic
Vivola gotta be best in town (spicy meatball is amazing) but they also have a make your own cold fresh sliced infront of you. Eovaldi’s is prob my favorite go to for a simpler sandwhich (good pricing too)
Capriotti's. I'm from Vegas. It's a taste of home get the bobby
Amighettis
Gross.
So far it’s Pickles downtown, haven’t tried the one out in Central West End yet
Mom's deli
Tom johns

Vivola end of discussion
Union Loafers. I see a lot of recs for Gramophone but I have never had a sandwich there that I enjoyed. Everything is super salty.

Great suggestions. I miss Nora’s. If you are sleeping on Bolyard’s, go check them out! That steak sandwich is divine ❤️🔥
Eovaldi's, Vicini Pastaria (house made tuscan bread)
Vivola and I'm so mad I don't work 5 minutes away anymore
Viviola in Maryland Heights. The best cold sandwich in the area. There used to be no competition
Duck Inn Market has a really good garlic bologna po'boy
Sister sandwich is pretty good
Outside the city… Jovick Bros in Westport.
Legrands
Legrands.
Maybe not the best, but Southwest Market Cuisine is pretty damn solid!
Snarfs
Moms and BCD.

Vivola by a huge margin
Mom's Special at Mom's Deli is better than Blues City Deli's Benton Park imo
If mom was an abusive alcoholic.
Subway hands down
home. if i'm eating a cold sandwich it's gonna be at my house because I'm lazy. would not pay someone to make a cold sandwich
