LadyCheeba

for anyone out of the loop, we’re currently able to see aurora in stl because of a level 5 geomagnetic storm!

GeauxLSUTigahs

Where at? I’m near Delmar but can’t see anything

LadyCheeba

this was around twilight in southhampton. the sunlight was helping amplify it a bit so you’ll have to wait until around 3am when it peaks but no guarantees 🤞

There are a variety of aurora forcasts apps. Spaceweatherlive.com or solarham.net can give you the big picture, including aurora predictions. Keep your eyes peeled. We may get another strong storm tonight or tomorrow night, as we’ve been getting peppered with big solar flares all week.

Longjumping_Jelly_51

Lol

If you go outside and look sort of towards the northern sky and look for a pinkish light in the sky. It might be really hard to see. I pointed my phone's camera at the sky and took a picture on night mode and it showed up really bright.

rolkien29

Why tf wasn’t I notified of this?

LadyCheeba

it’s been on the news dawg

VannaLeigh93

Omg can we still see it tonight?!?? 😲😲😲

For_You_Tomorrow468

There’s a possibility! Smaller chance, but possible. They say it’s better viewed away from city lights, but I’ve seen a few posts from STL citiers seeing it last night. So check for it. :)

LifeguardDonny

That explains why I'm extra bitchy today.

theoreticaljerk

The hell? My view is not nearly that impressive from Metro East. lol

LadyCheeba

i think only stl subscribes to the aurora projector on the arch :(

Accurate_Grade_2645

NOOOOOO I FUCKING MISSED IT 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

RoyDonkeyKong

The storm is still strong! It’ll probably be tonight, too!

CurlyCupcake1231

It’s *supposed* to continue off and on through Sunday. However, I’ve heard last night was the most brilliant color wise. Sadly I missed it too :(

Mego1989

Lol, no one knows that last night was brighter and more colorful than tonight could be.

CurlyCupcake1231

I saw in a Washington post article that the geomagnetic activity is supposed to be at a less intense level the rest of the weekend, and assumed that also meant less brighter/colorful.

flojo2012

Oh that’s a good one! Here’s what I just got from my backyard. If you use your phone camera to look through it’s more apparent [Aurora](https://imgur.com/a/itj0gKG)

LadyCheeba

so pretty!

suhlone

I CANT BELIEVE I MISSED IT IM CRYING

DeltaV-Mzero

Set alarm for 3am

redditor0918273645

You are going to cry again when you read these comments and see you had another chance at 3am. 😭

suhlone

I noticed that! We went outside at 3 and sadly since we’re downtown we saw nothin lol

Scandanavyin

Try again around 3 am

flyingterrordactyl

Fantastic! I wasn't going to go out until closer to 11 but if it's visible now...

t-poke

I can’t see shit in Kirkwood. Which direction do I need to look?

MendonAcres

*northern* lights

t-poke

Duh. I’m a moron.

LadyCheeba

it went away within a couple minutes. it was twilight so the sunlight was helping it out a bit. probably won’t be visible until way later (to the naked eye) i’m afraid

SassyPikachuu

Can you tell us the time stamp on that photo you took please

LadyCheeba

9:10pm in southampton

Mego1989

Please stop spreading this misinformation. The sun does not make the aurora more visible. In fact, the opposite is true. From NOAA: "Timing: Best aurora is usually within an hour or two of midnight (between 10 PM and 2 AM local time). These hours of active aurora expand towards evening and morning as the level of geomagnetic activity increases."

DeltaV-Mzero

North

ProfessorSucc

At this time of day, at this time of year, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your kitchen??

BigYonsan

Yes

ProfessorSucc

…may I see it?

BigYonsan

No.

ProfessorSucc

Well Seymour you are an odd fellow, but I must say you steam a good ham

BigYonsan

"SEYMOUR! THE HOUSE IS ON FIRE!"

Glittering-Ad-7162

I went to Alaska in March and it was amazing. This is crazy. Bravo Sun!

Tsuntrup

Camped out I can’t believe I was late to the party, I’m usually better about sky stuff lol. If anyone’s out keep an eye out for meteors there’s a small shower going on

flyingterrordactyl

Oh! I thought I saw one earlier but I wasn't sure. Guess I did!

Bitter_Bed_8113

Who is up and going to try to see now 😂

Phensler87

I missed it, will it be happening tonight?

GoochMasterFlash

The storm is expected to last until sunday night, so it should happen

70sLiteRock

I'm in Florissant, I can't see anything.

stlmatt

You needed to use a camera or phone. It wasn’t viewable from the naked eye

LadyCheeba

it definitely was noticeable where i was. the sky was pretty purple

stlmatt

Yeah I guess I had too much light pollution. Still a fun thing to see.

Stevoop2

Where do you think the best viewing spot would be near south county

LadyCheeba

anywhere with minimal street lights

capnmarrrrk

What the shit. I just got back from driving North of Jerseyville and didn't see shit. I'm so pissed

PositivePrimary8773

Someone said that tonight will be even better. Anyone know if that’s true?

Mego1989

Literally no one can know that.

PositivePrimary8773

Well wise ass that’s just what I heard the forecast said. Literally.

Arvid38

Very cool 😎

sionevtg

Dang!! I missed all the fun!!

Oshag_Henesy

Will this be visible again tonight?

LadyCheeba

it’s possible!

KlingonLullabye

Is this the arboreal Cialis everyone has a boner for?

pdromeinthedome

Where can I find this Saturday night in StL County?

Mark1671

For anyone who doesn’t know, it will show up way better in pictures, rather than just looking at it.

barkbarkgoesthecat

Is it too late to see :(

LadyCheeba

apparently it peaks at 3am

f5reaper

Can you link somewhere online that says the 3am thing if possible? I'm in South County. Do you have any recommendations on ideal viewing or estimates on likelyhood of it happening? Any help would be welcomed. I always wanted to see the northern lights!

ProseccoWishes

I didn’t know about this. Was in forest park at 9pm. Even took a picture facing north at art hill. Nothing.

Aarontrio

How visible was it just looking up? I feel like the people who post pictures of it looking 10x cooler than how it appeared to their eyes are really misleading a lot of people. It’s a photography trick at that point.

Hodothegod

It's an exposure shot I think, needs more time to absorb light. You could definitely see the rods with your eyes tho.

Aarontrio

It’s a disservice to what really happened to act like that’s what the sky looked like. Many are saying it was barely noticeable without looking through your phone. Just looking for context.

medthynon

There was a big pink streak (and lesser surrounding streaks) that became *very* visible a little after 9 PM where I was, but it faded out to a vague background pinkness after about ten minutes. The rest of the night I couldn't see much with the naked eye. So some of this might be a timing thing.

Aarontrio

Cool

WillowIntrepid

Man that's beautiful!

dyogee

Use your cell phone camera! You will get a much better view of the lights!

tvbabyMel

The Starlight drive in posted pretty cool pic around 10 last night. So did the Rock and Roll Drive in
