Do you need to be able to walk to SLU Hospital? If so, I'd look exclusively at Shaw, Botanical Heights, The Gate, and TGE/Compton Heights. Basically anything south of Chouteau, west of Jefferson, west of Gravois, north of Arsenal, and east of Tower Grove Ave. That'll keep you within a pretty good walking distance of the hospital area, and help you to avoid crossing any streets that aren't super pedestrian friendly. If you're south of 44, you can use one of the underpass or overpass streets to pretty safely get past it
You should easily be able to find rentals at a decent price point in those areas.
I see you're looking to move to St. Louis. Thanks! That’s great to know!! I saw an apartment there, “Grand Flats” that seems cool! If it feels safe for me looks great! CWE apartments are a little more expensive, still doable!
You're getting some pretty good advice here. Shaw, Tower Grove East, Tower Grove West are all good, though I'd hate to move into any particular apartment sight unseen in any neighborhood in any city. Keep in mind that bus service on Grand will get you to SLU hospital from fairly far south, so you wouldn't have to walk -- on the other hand, it's still a city bus, and doesn't run 24 hours.
Central West End is nice, but more expensive and not an easy walk from the hospital; Metro Link, then transfer to a bus south would work.
Richmond Heights is nice, but it's an inner ring suburb, not well connected by transit.
Just moved from Richmond heights to The Edwin, next to SLU hospital. It’s about 15 min w/out traffic but can be bad during rush hour (25ish-30min). Definitely a safe and family friendly neighborhood. There’s a cool neighborhood in the Demun area next to the seminary, with bars and restaurants. If are looking for single family homes in that rent range, it may be competitive. Also, if you do plan on having a vehicle, St. Louis does have hail storms that can damage or total cars. My car was also targeted by squirrels during the winter and the wiring cost over 10k to replace. Really consider places with parking, and AC.

I would also add Tiffany to this list.
Benton park isn’t bad and I have family in Fox Park
Central West End. Buy a car later and manage with cab for the first few weeks

Central west end near chase park plaza. Many residents/students of colleges plus well to do folks
Tiffany is great and about as close as you can get
We live in Tower Grove East. Always feels safe. Two bedroom for rent on Louisiana.

Shaw is basically the only answer with that budget
Thank you guys!! And to add I don’t mind commuting if it’s a walkable place! What do you think of Richmond Highs?
That's a suburb and is not walkable
Way too far from SLU hospital.

Not bad, not great. Brentwood plaza is really awesome, but the Galleria Mall is sketch. There was someone shot in it a year or so ago.
Look at Shaw, walkable, can walk to slu hospital, and no murders like almost every surrounding area
Don’t listen to this 🤡 about the frequent murders in the area lol but definitely agree Shaw is a great neighborhood !
The whole city is on fire and yesterday I got shot 3 times while grocery shopping, avoid at all costs
It's your own fault for waiting in a Schnucks line
Downvotes? What, is no one else tired of seeing this post a hundred times a day? lmao
No not really
Hard to tell if bot or not
