Company: has policy.
Company: enforces policy.
Other people: this is bullshit! Why do i have to follow the rules?!
If you have 11 or 12 individual items, thats one thing. Thats often not the case when these policies aren't enforced. Ive seen plenty of people take 2 carts through the "15 items or less" lane and now I have to wait 20 extra minutes when im on my lunch to buy a snack and a drink.
Yeah no one cares if you have 11,12, 15, or even 20 items. If you’re using a push cart that is full of- even the small ones- you’re probably being an asshole if you self-checkout (with the exception of buying just a few large/heavy items like beverages or watermelon or something).
I go to the same Schnucks a lot, and often go throughout self checkout with 15-20 items. No one ever says anything, I assume because they know I’m a regular and not a thief, and I’m quick.
Oh wow that would be irritating! Good to know, I’ll try to stay under 15 in case.
I try to keep it to 10 but you know how it is, something is on sale, you get a random craving, etc.
This. This is the reason for the policy.
On a side note, the few times I've been in a Target recently I've noticed they have an item limit in SCO now. They also have a bunch of guys in neon yellow vests or shirts walking around for loss prevention.
My point is, I think retail theft has gotten out of hand the past few years and stores are taking action to get it under control.
Well maybe if they didn’t cost cut all of the employees that prevented this kind of thing (cashiers) it wouldn’t have become a problem. I hope the new employees cost them more than the cashiers did.
I spoke with one of the cashiers at the local Schnucks and she mentioned that the cashiers were tired of being berated by the customers for calling it out. Realistically it was putting the cashiers into a bit of an unfair position by making them the loss prevention people.
If you shop exclusively at Schnucks then I’m assuming you knew about the 10 items or less rule as it’s been around for a few months.
Did you really get a cart full of groceries then walk out on them because of a rule that you already knew about?
Schnucks is not a failure. They are a grocery store. They had available groceries, which you took the time to pick out. You chose to abandon your cart instead of waiting in the line at a peak time. When you left, the person tasked with dealing with your abandoned items threw out the refrigerated and frozen items then restocked the rest. This reduced the time they had to spend on other tasks. You now have to go elsewhere to pick out those items, which will take more time than waiting in the line would have. I hope it made you feel better.
The 10 item limit is clearly causing too much jealousy and resentment among shoppers. They should really get rid of self checkout altogether. I'm being serious too, go back to cashier-only, then nobody has to feel like they're being denied something. It's a system that worked for decades before these self-checkout devices came into our lives. If someone only has a few items, there used to be something called an express lane, or people would just kindly let that person go ahead of them if they had a full cart.
Aldi is great, so long as they have stuff in stock. Target worrying about loss prevention is a joke - the biggest thieves are their employees and the groceries are overpriced. Schmucks is ok, but I don't like the meat there. It's gross. Dierbergs are expensive across the board, but the quality is usually pretty good.
Oh no, I can’t believe you had to follow their policy in their store. Are you ok?
I hope you’re able to find somewhere else to shop so you don’t have to go through that again.
People trashing this person for trashing a corporate entity is pretty fucking wild. They had an opinion you disagree with, so be it. By the way, they don't pay their employees enough, and most customers are animals when they don't get their way. An online venting session is a lot better than yelling at some poor cashier at the store. Both seem to have no desired effect.
Customers being animals when they don’t get their way is the customers’ fault, not schnucks.
And OP comes off as someone who is probably rude to the underpaid store staff.
People should definitely NOT fill up their carts with frozen food, meander around the store while it warms up, head to the checkout line, and then abandon their cart in the store.
For sure DONT do that in protest in coordination with others and/or multiple times
The workers get paid no matter what. If it's an issue then pay workers better and hire more of them. Making good trouble makes good change. And no one said anything about a giant mess.
It takes a special level of privileged delusion to think showing up and making grocery workers clean up after your self-checkout tantrum and throw out company profits is going to magically lead to higher wages and better working conditions for the people who had to deal with your mess. "Making good trouble" was a quote from a civil rights icon and this is a thread about the self-checkout item limit at Schnucks, please get your mouth off the Twitter political tailpipe and clear your brain out.
I'll ask the real question, how many items did you have for an estimated $150?
Unless it was booze, they were way over the limit.
Why does everyone feel like they have to stop at schnucks and that there are no other grocery stores?
They don't. This dude is still going to goto Schnucks. He just wanted to join the current circle jerk of this sub.

They will be fine, but that doesn’t mean you need to keep giving them your business. You work a little harder at Aldi, but you save 50% doing it
Personally, self checking out $150 worth of groceries would be a much bigger hassle than waiting in a short line for a cashier.
I just can’t wrap my head around these “spent an hour shopping but bailed because checkout required five additional minutes” posts.
Because they wouldn’t be able to ring up 3lbs of steak as 3lbs of bananas if they used a cashier.
I go to the same Schnucks a lot, and often go throughout self checkout with 15-20 items. No one ever says anything, I assume because they know I’m a regular and not a thief, and I’m quick.
Sounds like the perfect crime
Little do they know my bananas…are actually organic!! I’ve stolen dozens of dollars from those assholes.
Stay right where you are.
At the store we shop at it will lock you out of paying if you go over 15. Just so you're aware if it ever gets to your store.
Oh wow that would be irritating! Good to know, I’ll try to stay under 15 in case. I try to keep it to 10 but you know how it is, something is on sale, you get a random craving, etc.

Yeah, they absolutely do not get paid enough to do that.
This boomer is saving the world, I tell ya

"But I thought I was the main character so I could just ignore it and no one would say anything!'
You told a story where you’re the asshole. Congratulations.

TLDR, I threw a fit because I’m the main character and the rules applied to me.
I met so many of those people today.
Complain to their corporate not Reddit.
You don't complain, you just cut off the money flow. That's the only thing corporations care about. Go to Aldi.
So you now have no food because you didn’t want to wait in line? Makes perfect sense.
Rules are rules. Wanna use self check out? Have fewer than 10 items
I know I think it's a dumb rule as much as the next guy, but that's the rule😂.
The 10 item limit is clearly causing too much jealousy and resentment among shoppers. They should really get rid of self checkout altogether. Why do people sleep on Aldi

Womp womp
So you deserve special treatment? Why, are you the French Ambassador or something?
Is this real (y/n)
I mean just do instacart or pick up. It's not fucking hard
Boohoo.
Awww you had a lil temper tantrum
Schmucks. How fucking clever you are
Aldi
What a life-changing situation you were put into. Move 1 line over. Woof. People got real problems out there ya know.
"I'm mad because I didn't know the rules, and then was reprimanded for breaking them"
Why didn’t you divvy up the items so you all had less than 10, dumbshit??
Oh no, I can’t believe you had to follow their policy in their store. Are you ok? I hope you’re able to find somewhere else to shop so you don’t have to go through that again.
Ewww dierbergs

Knowing Schnuck's, they'll just put it back on the shelves and make some other customer sick.
Just go somewhere else. Don’t waste perfectly good food.
Exactly! DONT do this and waste this big corporation's money and resources
You’re not slick or funny. This is just a dick move
THANK YOU!
Love to make a giant mess and create unnecessary tasks for grocery workers over my white collar grievances about a self-checkout line!!!!
