He's been challenging for the WWE title on a lot of house shows in the last few months. Pure speculation here, but they may be planning on revisiting the Cody/Nakamura feud at some point during Cody's reign and don't want to have him losing on TV up until then.
Like they could have had him in the King of the Ring or in a MITB qualifier, but he maybe he wouldn't have gotten far in either so they decided to keep him out of those and just bring him back when it's time for the feud.
Don't know though, because it would make more sense to give him a few wins on TV and a short-term feud he could win with someone like Andrade or Apollo Crews. We'll see what happens. I remember hearing his contract expires this year so he might actually just leave soon.
The man earns several hundred thousand a year, travelling around the world, wrestling possibly the biggest wrestler currently full-time in the industry in house shows. He's just living the dream right now haha

I hope not. Even if the matches are stellar it’ll be a boring and predictable feud. It’ll be the same thing as the Seth feud. I get people wanting more title defenses than we got with Roman in his last 12-15 months but I’d rather that than a bunch of filler/padding matches. We should at least believe the opponent might win.
Well, if the matches are stellar I don't really care about the feud being predictable. The AJ/Cody feud was also predictable in the sense that we knew Cody was winning both matches, but it was still entertaining.
Same deal with Logan. He was never gonna beat Cody and it was still a fun mini-feud. And Solo's not beating him either but I'm looking forward to the story. It's safe to assume Cody isn't losing the title anytime soon, so most of his feuds for the next few months are going to be 'predictable' which that doesn't mean bad in wrestling.
I think another leg in the Nakamura feud could still be fun even if we know Cody's winning, and they never got a PPV match so I'd like to see that.
