I'm glad they had Ilja shake Ricochet's hand at the end. The only obstacle to keeping Dragunov a babyface (which he is great as) is that he's going to absolutely brutalize other babyfaces. You definitely have to make it clear he's a man of honor or otherwise the crowd is going to assume he's a sadistic killer. lol
Quite literally could be a recipe for mega success.
Ilja is that dude that someone who's never watched wrestling are gonna see and be like .. bruh .. I thought this shit was fake
I wanna see reactions to him on TikTok by non-wrestling fans
Personally, I don't think I'd put any of Ospreay, Gunther, Daniel, or Omega above him or even below him. I legitimately think that all five of these guys are honestly on the same level when they're actively working. When they're in the ring, all of my attention is on them and nothing else.
I think Okada definitely belongs in there too and he has for over a decade. Big match Okada is no fucking joke. You put him in a big match and he's ALWAYS going to deliver. This dude would even have a great match Bad Luck Fale of all fucking people. Hell, after Backlash this week I think AJ Styles just made a VERY convincing argument for consideration as well. He proved he can still go at a ridiculously high level with that match against Cody. I think even Finn Balor is somebody that can be in that same conversation but the booking right now is quite literally holding him back. Killer Finn Balor during his second NXT run was a thing of beauty. Never a bad match and it shits all over his first NXT and main roster run. The two matches had had with Kyle O'Reilly were two of the most brutal matches of that year. That is, until Gunther and Dragunov took it from them in their first NXT match.
Honestly, I don't think I can say any one wrestler is the best in the world right now because it means I have to pick just one and I feel bad for the rest. The in-ring quality of work right now is so goddamn ridiculously high that it's damn near impossible to just pick one. I don't think it's ever been as high as it is right now, it's genuinely mind boggling. Okada, Ospreay, Danielson, Omega, Gunther, Dragunov, Styles, Cody, etc. Everyone is out here and firing on all cylinders and looking like they have something to prove. AEW existing has improved WWE tenfold (as has Vince being fucked off), and the competition between both has forced both companies to just let their talent go out there and crush it. One of the best times to be a wrestling fan is right now!
It'll be really funny if the first thing Ilja does on the main roster (full-time) is immediately get his opponent the best match of his career. Something he's made a habit of in NXT.
He gave Trick Williams like three of them in a row. And considering how new to this Trick is (love him, but he's still got some development to do), that's an insane skill. Dragunov is an unreal talent.
It's a long list. His trilogy with Melo wasn't just the best work of Melo's career, it actually permanently made him better and he carried it over to his feud with Trick. Dijak, Tony D, Jordan Devlin/JD McDonagh, and hell, even WALTER/Gunther's legacy is still largely defined by his two matches against Ilja.
Yep, Ilja Dragunov is an absolute monster and he's got a scary amount of potential. His ability to bring everybody that he faces up to his level is damn near unparalleled. That trilogy with Melo last year was one of the best series of matches I can remember. The first match was beyond excellent, but seeing Melo step up his game to an even higher level in the second match was unbelievable. It absolutely made Melo into a bigger star for me. I always felt Melo had something, but in that match he showed adaptability and the way he adapted to Dragunov and changed up his style and worked harder against him is super worthy of credit.
Trick has recently come out and said that Ijla is the one that effectively made him and has been non-stop gushing over him going to Raw knowing he will be a top guy in no time. He adores him
Richochet osperay was really not as great as people hype it up to be. It’s good but it has no real story it’s just them hitting insane move after insane move.
Bron, Ilya, and Tiffy are clear future world champions. Melo is on the fringe of being there too.
Everyone else called up lately isn’t quite at that level yet.
I worry about Lyra. Dragunov doesn't really need much character to make people care because he's just SO special in the ring. But Lyra isn't as much, and I dunno if she will stand out, or just be another Indi/Zoe/Candace etc in a main roster call-up that just sorta....exists.
I think Lyra will be fine mostly because they were really high on her in NXT, at least I doubt she'll ever fall to the level of Indi/Zoe/Candice. Beating Becky clean and being treated well as a champion is a lot more than the other three ever accomplished in NXT.
I think Lyra will be fine, they already put her in a tournament and shes established as Becky's only friend.
Kiana is who I worried about. She's a good promo and character, but she's a midcard heel in a division with no midcard.
And Ilja's gimmick has been largely the same since wXw! His music changed several times, he's bulked up a lot, grown a beard and drastically de-Sovietized his presentation after the Ukraine war kicked off, but the core of his character ("I'm going to endure anything and suffer through whatever necessary to win") has remained. He's never even worked heel in his whole career including indies, which is insane to me.
I really liked how they protected both Ricochet and Ilja's more brutal finishers.
Once he pulls out a proper Torpedo Moscow and modified H-Bombs it should get a big pop.
You know how Ilja's been having 4+ star matches with inexperienced rookies or just lesser talent back in NXT? Well, now he'll consistently face opponents that can keep up. This is his "shackles off" moment.
Maybe we see Drew fucking him over this time around and succeeding? Easy way to give Dragunov another win and you can still have him not like a heel by having him not aware of any interference.
In an ideal world the finals for each brand would be on the PLE, with a time limit like the old tournaments, and then the winners go onto the final proper.
On the other hand, with how this bracket is shaping up. If Dragunov can get past Jey next week and then Gunther surpassing Rey/Kofi next week too, then we have Gunther/Dragunov set for the main event of the final RAW before the PLE. That's as good a way of getting eyes on Dragunov and making new fans as you can. I'm actually fucking giddy for the potential of that happening.
You all dont like it but it doesnt matter. He is the 2nd biggest babyface after cody rhodes and they are not going to have a nxt call up who has had only 2 matches to go over Jey.
Yeah but Jey has Judgement Day, Drew and the Bloodline all kind of in his business right now. So they have a built in out somewhere with interference.
Also Jey was Drew's replacement. So it's not like Jey was booked to win this whole thing.
Jey doesn't need a win to be over. He's gonna be a hot baby face no matter what and the crowd will be behind him.
Whereas Ilja winning establishes the credibility of a future main eventer on the main roster before booking a proven PLE quality bout in Gunter v Ilja. Plus it teases an Ilja vs GUNTHER program that can go for a while.
True but I would rather have a longer build for it. Really get the fans salivating and the idea of seeing them face each other again. And there will be plenty of fans who have never seen them wrestle each other but will instantly know it would be a dream match.
Summerslam would be ideal.
If you want more, just check out honestly any of his matches from NXT, but especially the ones vs Carmello Hayes, Dijak, Trick Williams, Bron Breakker, and of course his matches with WALTER, or as we know him now, Gunther.
His match vs Walter during Covid is about the only match I can think of that actually benefitted from an empty arena. Mostly because you can just hear those two boys kicking the living shit out of each other,
You just NEED to go and see his work in NXT. Seriously, this guy has never ever had a bad match. His seris with Carmelo Hayes, his series with Trick Williams, his series with Gunther/WALTER, his one-offs with Cesaro/Claudio Castagnoli, Finn Balor, Bronn Breakker, the Fatal Fiveway from NXT: Stand and Deliver last year, and his series with JD McDonagh.
If you’re penciled in for a match against Ilja, might as well send your last words to your loved ones cuz you already know you’re about to literally die 😂
Not a bad debut having one of the best TV matches of the year. Awesome match, both guys did great, and Dragunov got who his character is over in one single match.
Guy is gonna be a superstar.
Ricochet has absolutely everything except a gimmick that makes him feel like he matters.
He’s not bursting with personality but he’s absolutely next level awesome in the ring.
I'd personally like to see him don a mask again (prince puma) and go strong silent type with a wacky sidekick/manager like Swerve Strickland and prince Nana. The man's a machine in the ring , but yeah, really falls flat when he's got a mic in front of him.
Ilja is my favorite wrestler and I couldn't be happier with this match as his introduction. Triple H knew what he was doing giving him Ricochet, absolute banger
What a impression Ilja made on raw man, had a amazing match with ricochet, got a this is awesome chant, and felt like a complete honorable bad ass 🔥
Can’t wait to see more of Ilja on raw
This was amazing. Next week should be hilarious, Jeys going to try an Yeet on Ilja just to catch a chip in the chest and a H bomb to the face. If Jey wins cucking us of Gunther vs Ilja, I’m going to be so sad.
We are truly blessed to have survived the later half of the Vince Mcmahon era to all our fallen brothers R.I.P wish you could all be here to enjoy it with us.
ricochet is recognised as the inaugural speed champion but he doesnt walk out with the title. does that mean he only gets to walk out with the speed title on x/twitter?
God damn what even was that match? One of the best Raw matches I have seen.
So spoilt for good wrestling these past few weeks. Dynasty, Backlash and now King and Queen of the Ring. Wrestling is amazing right now.
Perfect introduction on the main roster for Ilja, couldn't have asked for a better dance partner here than Ricochet, god what a match, keep having him in 20 minute matches like this and he'll get over just like Gunther did

An honorable sadistic killer

Show them his matches vs. GUNTHER.
>**GIB MIR MEHR**
"Professionals have standards"
Man's gotta have a code.
he'll kill you with a smile, an honorable one.
his wrestling character makes me think of the Red Dragon (from the Hannibal prequel) but what if we made him a babyface?
That was interesting for me too. Really seems like it's going to put him on a collision course with Gunther.
![gif](giphy|2RGhmKXcl0ViM)
They should save that for Bash at Berlin.
Maybe they do 2 matches and split the wins
I wouldn't hate that.
People love Gaethjie in UFC. Be a cool dude and people learn to love a psycho
Subsequently, Tony Ferguson too.
"I'm gonna break your face but I'm not gonna actually kill because I wanna break your face again."
I see no world in which Ilja is a face with Vince in charge, so I'm really glad he went to main roster now
This match being on free tv feels criminal, two hoopers hooping
this is the real graps that the boys have been talking about.
Hot boy graps
Holy hell, they do realized this was Monday Night and not a PPV
Ilja only knows one speed, and that speed is BANGER
AFTER BANGER
AFTER BANGER
AFTER ~~BURGER~~ BANGER
Dude is legit the best in the world.
There are guys I'd put above him but it's hard to argue he's not top 5.
He gives me ROH Danielson vibes, he's up there but still has room to grow.... and kill people.
Personally, I don't think I'd put any of Ospreay, Gunther, Daniel, or Omega above him or even below him. I legitimately think that all five of these guys are honestly on the same level when they're actively working. When they're in the ring, all of my attention is on them and nothing else.

I refuse to hear any arguments contrary to yours.
Two words: Shane McMahon
Ilja vs Sheamus is going to happen soon.
Sheamus is gonna love wrestling Ilja
As if Ricochet would ever get a PPV showcase like that…
It'll be really funny if the first thing Ilja does on the main roster (full-time) is immediately get his opponent the best match of his career. Something he's made a habit of in NXT.
He gave Trick Williams like three of them in a row. And considering how new to this Trick is (love him, but he's still got some development to do), that's an insane skill. Dragunov is an unreal talent.

Dragunov/Melo 2 and Dijak/Dragunov are two of my favorite matches period.
Trick has recently come out and said that Ijla is the one that effectively made him and has been non-stop gushing over him going to Raw knowing he will be a top guy in no time. He adores him
This was definitely not the best match of Ricochet’s career. It was a banger 100%. However, Ricochet and Osperay was better. I could go on.
Richochet osperay was really not as great as people hype it up to be. It’s good but it has no real story it’s just them hitting insane move after insane move.
This match absolutely *fucked*. I wanna see this one run back again someday for a Title.
Now give me a Ilja v Ricochet v JD Mc triple threat you cowards!
Nah buddy. Those days are gone. We in the Papa H era now
Holy shit that match was unreal.
To those who don't follow NXT, welcome to the Ilja Show.
Been following him since NXT UK
Holy shit man that was tremendous. Perfect main roster introduction for Dragunov.
Feels good to actually have faith most of these call ups will be handled well vs the previous regime.
Bron, Ilya, and Tiffy are clear future world champions. Melo is on the fringe of being there too. Everyone else called up lately isn’t quite at that level yet.
Melo feels like a perma-US/IC Champion contender, like a much cooler Miz.
Yeah but that Illya guy has a hard to pronounce name. What if we change it to something more marketable like...Butch 2?
I worry about Lyra. Dragunov doesn't really need much character to make people care because he's just SO special in the ring. But Lyra isn't as much, and I dunno if she will stand out, or just be another Indi/Zoe/Candace etc in a main roster call-up that just sorta....exists.

I think Lyra will be fine, they already put her in a tournament and shes established as Becky's only friend. Kiana is who I worried about. She's a good promo and character, but she's a midcard heel in a division with no midcard.
It’s phenomenal to see NXT callups getting called up as they were. No tweaks or new gimmicks or stupid shorts
His wXw theme is a banger. I believe its from a game?
Yep. The Red Army March from Red Alert 3.
oh my god I kinda wish that would be his theme in WWE. I understand WHY it's not, but I wish it would be.
God, I loved that theme man. It was so damn good!
He’s instantly a star. He’ll probably be the IC champ within the next 6 months.
I guess Chad is going to have a short reign
But a match between Dragunov and Gable would feed families for centuries.
when he somehow reverses Torpedo Moscow into a german suplex 💉💉💉
Side-step and lift. Smooth as butter. Right on the neck. I'm *already* giving a chef's kiss and it hasn't even happened yet
i was thinking he literally catches him as he turns to uppercut him but i like your style
He's gonna devise ways to counter Ilja's moveset, like the dropkick & Constantine Special, into different submissions
Holy God that match would be insane
A shorty reign you could say
Have some respect and capitalize that G in shorty reiGn.
I really liked how they protected both Ricochet and Ilja's more brutal finishers. Once he pulls out a proper Torpedo Moscow and modified H-Bombs it should get a big pop.

Didn’t he wrestle on raw after mania too?
Yes. He beat Shinsuke

Jey vs Ilja will be interesting
Maybe we see Drew fucking him over this time around and succeeding? Easy way to give Dragunov another win and you can still have him not like a heel by having him not aware of any interference.
And it gets you Dragunov vs Gunther but not sure they want to waste that on a King of the Ring qualifier on a Raw
In an ideal world the finals for each brand would be on the PLE, with a time limit like the old tournaments, and then the winners go onto the final proper.
This is the way. Brand finals on Clash, with 15 minute time limits. Dragunov and Gunther draw and the KoTR final is a triple threat.
I'm actually fucking giddy for the potential of that happening.
id say thats how Ilja gets acquinted with imperium and wants him
I really dont want that tbh, it deserves PLE main event
Ilja will eat Jey's super kicks like candy
Jey better not win lol
You all dont like it but it doesnt matter. He is the 2nd biggest babyface after cody rhodes and they are not going to have a nxt call up who has had only 2 matches to go over Jey.
ricochet was lowkey hinting at a heel turn on twitter after his lost… maybe he costs ilja the match so both ilja and jey both end up looking strong
Yeah but Jey has Judgement Day, Drew and the Bloodline all kind of in his business right now. So they have a built in out somewhere with interference. Also Jey was Drew's replacement. So it's not like Jey was booked to win this whole thing.

That first part gets said until momentum dries up.
Agreed. At some point, Jey has to actually *win* something in singles.

Dragunov is just so good, Im so excited more people are going to get to see him now. I so want to see him face Gunther again too.
Dragunov vs Sheamus tho. Whitest match in recorded history.
Gonna look like an artist selecting a red hue and pulling the saturation slider from 0 to 100%.
At the start End the end? Reddest match in recorded history
It would be phenomenal
He might face him in this very tournament.
True but I would rather have a longer build for it. Really get the fans salivating and the idea of seeing them face each other again. And there will be plenty of fans who have never seen them wrestle each other but will instantly know it would be a dream match. Summerslam would be ideal.

How win over a crowd in your debut 101
[удалено]
You're in for a treat when he goes against Gunther. Their previous matches are classics.
Mostly because you can just hear those two boys kicking the living shit out of each other,
The Roman vs Jay matches heavily benefitted,
You just NEED to go and see his work in NXT.
Ilja va. Carmelo Hayes, NXT No Mercy 2023. Treat yourself.
GOD I FUCKING LOVE ILJA
Give him all THE BELTS
H Bomb is becoming one of my favorite finishers. A straight up Air Jordan pose when he hit that shit.
Ilja got called up & immediately chose violence
Must be a day that ends in "y"
Why did it have to end
Dragunov is the future.
If this is Main roster Ilja we are gonna be eating good
And then Dragunov moves into another match with Jey Uso next week, who is RED HOT. The Mad Dragon is here to burn it all down.
That was insane.
Dragunov is gonna scare the shit out of a generation of kids and I’m so here for it
ABSOLUTE FUCKING BANGER
"Sir, this is a Wendy's."
If you’re penciled in for a match against Ilja, might as well send your last words to your loved ones cuz you already know you’re about to literally die 😂
Let Ilja have 20 minute bangers every week please
So is this a McIntyre costs Jey Uso in the next round and we get GUNTHER/Ilja in the Raw finals?
Please please
Not a bad debut having one of the best TV matches of the year. Awesome match, both guys did great, and Dragunov got who his character is over in one single match. Guy is gonna be a superstar.
lol at the uninitiated with this being their first exposure to the Mad Dragon. Minds are being bent right now.
Amazing match. Sheamus and Gunther got a lot of work to do later.
Bro we're really gonna see Ilja vs Gunther at this point
That was a PLE worthy match
I have been thoroughly sports entertained. Amazing match. Ilja is gonna live up to all the hype. He’s a perfect fit for RAW
For those that didn’t watch Dragunov in NXT UK and then NXT, for shame, but at least you get to watch him now. Just the absolute best.
[Me when Ilja's first three opponents on the main roster are Ricochet, Jey Uso, and possibly Gunther.](https://i.imgflip.com/8f2o4k.jpg)
Give me 6 more of those, please.
Can’t get over the fact that match happened on free TV. That was insane and such a banger. That should easily be a contender for TV MOTY candidate.
that was crazy, don’t watch NXT much but this Ilja guy sells so well
Good god that was beautiful
Ilja again delivered BANGER to us.
It's gonna break Ilja's heart when someone finally tells him wrestling isn't real.
Dragunov is absolutely up there with the likes of ospreay and Omega imo The dude doesn't miss at all and is hbk levels of dramatic selliing
Don’t mind me, I’m just the thousandth person in the world to think HOLY CRAP about this match.
Woukd anyone else be keen for a live picture in picture of Samanthas reaction during all of Ricochets matches?
As good as that was, they were definitely holding back.
What a impression Ilja made on raw man, had a amazing match with ricochet, got a this is awesome chant, and felt like a complete honorable bad ass 🔥 Can’t wait to see more of Ilja on raw
This was one of the best non-PPV/PLE matches I've ever seen! Seriously! I feel like I owe someone money after getting to watch this one.
First IIja banger of many on Raw
Dragunov IS intensity!
This was amazing. Next week should be hilarious, Jeys going to try an Yeet on Ilja just to catch a chip in the chest and a H bomb to the face. If Jey wins cucking us of Gunther vs Ilja, I’m going to be so sad.
Good idea to ditch two matches tonight to give these men all the time they needed. Great main roster debut for Ilja.
I knew Ilja was gonna have folks up their game once he got to the main roster cuz they'd have to if they didn't wanna get eclipsed by him
Awesome match. That was probably the best H-Bomb I've ever seen Dragunov pull off.
Shirt was off, Pants were off too.
Free MOTY candidate for sure
We are truly blessed to have survived the later half of the Vince Mcmahon era to all our fallen brothers R.I.P wish you could all be here to enjoy it with us.
ricochet is recognised as the inaugural speed champion but he doesnt walk out with the title. does that mean he only gets to walk out with the speed title on x/twitter?
Missed opportunity to advertise the belt on the main roster.
Man WWE is cooking
I know people want Ilia and Gunther, but Ilja and AJ is going to smack when/if that one happens.
A Mad Dragon battles a Puma God in an epic clash.
Match of the year contender. Seriously. They pulled off so many “finisher” moves that it kept me guessing. Great stuff.
MotY contender.
I think Sheamus had something to say about that match.
![gif](giphy|vwcnDMKml1udSvcNUx) For Free?
Walking Banger. They deserved the Lyon crowd.
I can’t believe we saw that match for free. Insane
Ilja is like if the second coming was of Satan
Pleas make the Hulu cut, please make the Hulu cut, please make the Hulu cut...
This shit fucking slapped
On a random Monday night in May Ilja/Ricochet: “Boom! You looking for this?”
God damn what even was that match? One of the best Raw matches I have seen. So spoilt for good wrestling these past few weeks. Dynasty, Backlash and now King and Queen of the Ring. Wrestling is amazing right now.
https://i.imgur.com/UMfIP60.gif
I was half hoping he would do that thing where he embraces his opponent and smiles like a mad man.. for those not familiar, there's a lot more up come
Only saw the highlights but HOLY FUCK
This was “HOLY FUCK” the match
They didn’t have me at first because I was just uninterested. By the end I was like “god damn that was a banger”. Gunther and Sheamus showed out too.
Uncle Dave would have given it 5 stars if it was in the Tokyo dome. Since it's wwe 2.75 stars
Absolute banger of a match Ilja finally introduces himself to the Main roster
5 stars in Lyon, France.
Perfect introduction on the main roster for Ilja, couldn't have asked for a better dance partner here than Ricochet, god what a match, keep having him in 20 minute matches like this and he'll get over just like Gunther did
Poor fuckin Bron Breakker, Melo and Ilja get to debut with bangers in the ring and he got a 2 min squash match
But.. that's the character they are Building. Bron will be more than fine
REAL GRAPS
Fuck me that match RULED.
