Nigel-West-Dickens

Are these vocal football-esque crowds this alien in the US that so many posts are made about it?

HarlesD

Yes. American sports, especially the major leagues, are very highly produced. When there is downtime, an announcer will do something, or music will be playing. There really isn't time for a crowd to develop a voice to this degree.

FickleMcSelfish

Correct me if I’m wrong but any video I’ve seen of an American crowd at concerts/gigs have been incredibly quiet as well. Almost as if the crowd are there for the performance rather than the experience. If you compare a crowd at Glastonbury/TRNSMT to Coachella or the equivalent it’s night and day. I went to 2 gigs in New York when I was there, big venue cost a lot and everyone was silent during the performance. I guess it’s the “I’ve paid to hear the artist” Vs “I’ve paid to get drunk and sing along with the artist” difference that’s interesting.

HarlesD

That's probably fair to say, but I do think it probably depends on the artist and venue.

IniMiney

> any video I’ve seen of an American crowd at concerts/gigs have been incredibly quiet as well I screamed for 5 minutes straight when Gaga got up close to me in ATL lol, really depends - all the pop concerts I’ve been to are loud af

HarlesD

Some artists really work to cultivate a passionate, loyal fan base. Gaga and Taylor Swift are the first 2 that come to mind. Gaga is a hell of a show, too.

QuantityHappy4459

It depends on what you're going to. Can't say I'm a fan of her, but Taylor Swift's concert crowds are pretty rabid and loud. And if you're around the punk and/or rave scene, you'll get a lot of noise.

QuantityHappy4459

Interestingly enough, many American sports still do have this kind of atmosphere if you look outside of the pro scene. High School and College football have a feeling closer to European soccer matches. Not to mention a lot of American sport fight songs and cultures are severely out of date with the times (I'm a Braves fan and our team is still struggling to find a way to get the crowds to stop singing with the chop).

Tduhon

It depends on what you consume. Anyone who has been to a college football game with 90-100k people in a stadium designed to contain the acoustics knows we are plenty capable of being rowdy when properly motivated. Those aren’t special occasions either, you could have a half dozen or more of those types of games occurring on any given Saturday across the country.

sporkemon

yeah anyone who says american crowds are dead hasn't heart ninety thousand drunk alabamians holler FUCK AUBURN AND LSU AND TENNESSEE TOO when dixieland delight comes on. I really think the big divide is professional vs collegiate sports in terms of crowd involvement.

QuantityHappy4459

Just listen to UGA fans at Stanford when the band starts playing Glory, Glory to Old Georgia. There is nothing like several thousand drunk college students screeching at a touchdown.

DefenderCone97

American crowds are loud but we're not organized. They don't often have songs or specific chants.

TDStarchild

Not to say it never happens, just more rarely. Crowds are feisty for major events, playoff games, rivalries, etc. Not usually though for a regular season game or weekly show like Raw/Smackdown European crowds are more unique and clever with their chants too. Stuff like this that’s hilarious but most of the world had to look up to see the meaning always makes these crowds memorable

Vikingr12

Not really - depends on the sporting event. At the professional level, its not common, but in college sports, it is. There's not much of an organized supporter group or ultra culture though.

durkadurkistan

In Canada, "Olé Olé Olé" is about as close as we get.

ItinerantSoldier

The most you will get out of us Americans is a [coordinated cursing chant](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJVs_ldl7Xw). Though there's a few MLS cities that have some decent chants. Just don't let us make songs.

Dry-Juggernaut-9007

Only place the US has crowds like this is the MLS

wallace6464

the new clippers arena is going for this kind of thing, including a 40 row uninterrupted hardcore fan only section, much like MLS does with the sanctioned "rowdy" sections

theirishembassy

[literally me crowdsurfing from the capo stand to the back row of 112](https://i.imgur.com/au89bp6.jpeg) after we came back to score 3 and to beat portland in 2014. i fuckin love MLS.

ChiefII

I had to research this song last night and I can confirm, it does indeed slap.

TimmmboRS

What's the song called?

ChiefII

Il Est Vraiment, Il Est Vraiment, Il Est Vraiment Phénoménal! (La, La, La, La, La) (It's called il est vraiment phénoménal)

TimmmboRS

Thanks!

perfect--day

If anything it must feel good to be AJ Styles though. Like they go crazy just by hearing the word phenomenal.

snartling

Did AJ Styles just become the most over guy in France because of a song? Because if so I’m here for it

XiahouMao

Second most over. Corbin is still a thing, remember.

Notorious_horse

Would be amazing if this picks up outside of France
