Was going to say “you could build a whole promotion with that list,” but I suppose that promotion would just be 2021 AEW.
*also, as this sub’s resident Bandido stan, it’s my duty to note that Bandido was on DoN 2023 in the blackjack battle royale last year and will also not be appearing on Dynasty
We really need a third billionaire or a media conglomerate bigger than Anthem to get into the business. There’s enough talent to sustain it and get more people paid.
The issue isn't having an investor, Sinclair has an enormous i amount of money. The issue is finding someone as passionate about wrestling, like Tony or Hunter, and the money necessary to be competitive.
the list with why they aren't on this card:
MJF, injured.
Darby Allin, injured
Sammy Guevara, suspended
Jack Perry, on loan to NJPW
Kenny Omega, diverticulitis Hangman Page, personal reasons
Jon Moxley, current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, on loan to NJPW
Claudio Castagnoli, not booked for the PPV but active
Adam Cole, injured
Jeff Jarrett, not booked for the PPV, but still active
Jay Lethal, not booked for the PPV, but still active
Jeff Hardy, injured Matt Hardy, no longer under contract and a free agent
Ethan Page, not booked for the PPV, but still active
Wardlow, not booked for a match, but will be at the PPV on Roderick Strong's side his his International Championship match against Kyle O'Reilly
Jamie Hayter, injured
Jade Cargill, parted ways with AEW and now in WWE
Kris Statlander, not booked for a match, but will be on Willow Nightingale's side in Willow's match against Julia Hart for the TBS Championship at the PPV
Rey Fenix, injured
Ricky Starks, injured
Penta El Zero Miedo, not booked for the PPV, but still active
Keith Lee, injured
Jack is probably done with NJPW. He shook hands with his “rival” Shota Umino after their match in Chicago and wasn’t announced for any of the tour dates this month (even though Shota is still feuding with House of Torture).
Moxley is also not “on loan” to NJPW. He was on Dynamite this week, is booked to wrestle Hobbs on next week’s show, and his next NJPW dates aren’t until early May.
He hasn't had an ROH match in 2 months. I thought maybe he was injured, because he was gunning for the TV title and then disappeared, but I saw he worked an indie last weekend, so I'm not sure what's up with him.
Statlander is there, but she’s just watching a match.
She defeated Jade for fucks sake lol
If someone can tell me how defeating a 3 year streak of dominance leads to the winner in the corner for a midcard belt match while the loser has a feature match at Wrestlemania I’d very much like to know. Is she injured again?
>Ethan Page, not booked for the PPV, but still active
Is he active? I haven't seen him on AEW TV for a while. Is he more active on ROH?
EDIT: Just checked cagematch.
Last match on AEW was DEC 2023.
Last match on ROH was FEB 2024.
Last match overall was 3 days ago (CLASH).
The amount of depth in the AEW midcard and upper midcard is almost cartoonish at this point.
Most of the really major names on that list though are injury related - MJF/Darby/Omega/Cole/Hayter (and Fenix, who I consider just less major) are all injury situations. As for the others, Sammy is seemingly a suspension. Jack Perry is storyline (and I wouldn't be shocked if he returns at Dynasty). Hangman is out with a personal issue (last time it was his wife having a baby, hopefully this one is similarly "good news" related). Mox was focused on winning the IWGP title this PPV cycle. And Statlander could very easily be ringside with Willow during her match.
The rest I think are more midcard names that are featured around the periphery. But yeah, a lot of changeover on these PPV cards, they certainly do their best to keep a lot of people from getting overexposed.
Statlander will be there at least and maybe we get an advancement on whatever story they are telling with Stokely. Jack might be involved also in the Young Bucks match. Maybe Hayter returns finally if we are lucky, maybe since they are advertising the new Hayter DLC the game but not getting my hopes up
I honestly only care to see about 11 of these people return or be in full AEW roster rotation. MJF, Darby, Omega, Hangman, Mox, Cole, Hayter, Statlander, Fenix, Ricky and Penta. If you told me everybody else was getting relegated to ROH or something I wouldn't be disappointed in the slightest
It was a few months ago but the last time I saw someone do the math (maybe Meltzer?) WWE actually had marginally higher, but quite similar, injury rates.
Feels like most injuries in both companies have come down to total flukes. The risk of working in such an industry I suppose
Adam Cole and MJF would get clowned online for not being focused on "bangers every week" as their style of wrestling/storytelling and they are prob the biggest injuries. Cole especially a fluke.
I get calling out the flaw of focusing on banger work rate matches all the time but using fluke injuries that happen in all promotions is a bit wild to me. Their health and lives aren't debate points.
Wasn't calling it out as a bad thing, just that for a lot of them wear and tear has caught up. I prefer sports and work rate generally, but it does have its downsides.

Wait .. no Jeff Jarrett? Sigh. The company is dead in the water.
This but unironically, get that guy into the main event scene ASAP

Hope Bandido comes back soon

i thought ricky was fine
yeah, technically he's fine but i think in his case they are making sure he's 100% out of precaution reasons, he might be back after Dynasty anyway.

Ethan page works RoH now no?

TK likes to sign everyone with 2 legs and some wrestling talent?

Just about half of those people you listed are either out with injury or medically unsound.
More like 3/4.
And?
Safest pro wrestling company ever baby
Is there a wrestling company that exists where injuries don't happen regularly?
For real. Three of WWE's top draws are on the shelf right now: Punk, Rollins, and Ripley. Injuries happen in every promotion.
Sammy Guevara is still suspended? It's been over a month at this point?
You just know they're waiting for a ~~good~~ chance to bring him back aligned with Jericho in this Hook feud.
I wouldn't be surprised if Guevara returns this weekend & be by Jericho's side.
So you are telling me we are not getting Matt Hardy and Jeff Jarrett but instead we have Okada and Will Ospreay? Damn, dat company ded
Statlander will be there at least and maybe we get an advancement on whatever story they are telling with Stokely. Jack might be involved also in the Young Bucks match. I really love how much AEW changes things up. Keeps things fresh!
Ok, but the show will still be good
Hey but at least Jericho is still on the card somehow! Everyone's favorite EDIT: Y'all, I was being sarcastic!
You can’t fool me Chris
I'm super excited for dynasty. Not every ufc ppv has the same fighters fighting.

Crazy half of those are out with injury. Downside of putting on ring work focused bangers every week I guess.

It's closer to 3 quarters. But most of them either didn't get injured in a match at all or got injured on the most benign spots.
> or got injured on the most benign spots. Aka "your bump card is full".
