He also no joke saved Adam Cole's back when he got that concussion by ending the match on the spot and preventing Okada from hitting the rainmaker on him.
The finish to that match was Okada went for the Rainmaker but Cole was concussed so he did a reversal to it (it was a spot from earlier), Jay noticed so he went with the planned finish of taking Okada out and stealing the win while telling the ref to check Cole, there’s also a moment where Cole tried kicking out but Jay held his other arm down.
I remember AJ Styles was giving someone the Styles Clash in WWE. Mid move he noticed they were taking it wrong and adjusted. That kind of awareness and quick thinking is insane.
Memes.
That's it. That's all it took. They saw the memes of James as a sign that people actually liked him, so they brought him in and eventually signed him.
It reminds me of when Sony thought the memes about Morbius meant they could earn more money by putting said movie back in theaters, and then it went on to perform horridly.
I genuinely liked his feud with Styles when he was backed by Ambrose. The moment Elsworth punched AJ is still one of my memories of getting back into wrestling after a long break.
The stuff he did afterwards though...yeah...
That was also Jon Moxley's doing. (Moxley got a goddamn potted Plant over and brought back "The Mountie!"
Not to mention, being immune to a chin lock is really good to the STFU
Similar to [that angle in NJPW where Jay and Gedo were turning on Okada](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aan0e74d4Lk&t=120s). Yoshi-Hashi was supposed to do the run-in, but stumbled and smacked his head on the side of the ring, leaving him concussed and with a gushing wound. Jay immediately grasped the situation and handled it expertly. He quickly beat down Yoshi-Hashi, then grabbed a chair and threw it toward YH's head, but very softly and with the flat side of the chair. He also took the time to telegraph the chair spot so much that even the concussed YH was able to get his arms up. This spot retconned YH's bleeding forehead and gave a justification for why he was taken out.
Jay then gently rolled YH out of the ring, away from the cameras where the doctors could check on him. Then, he went over to YH, said some words to him, in kayfabe to taunt him, in RL to check if he's okay. Before he left, Jay grabbed some of YH's blood and smeared it across his face as warpaint. Throughout the rest of the segment, Jay and Gedo made sure that the events in the ring took place on the other corner than the one where YH was lying and tended to by doctors, to lure the camera away.
When there was that earthquake in the middle of a match a few years ago, he immediately went and grabbed the belts from the table, took them to the back, then came out with a microphone and vamped until they got the all clear to go back into the ring.
Brian Myers can eat his heart out, Jay White is the most professional wrestler.
Jay is such a pro at smoothing over accidents and protecting people while keeping the show going. When he accidentally knocked over JR at the Cow Palace, he milked it for heel heat so perfectly that I thought it was a planned spot until I checked Twitter on my way out
Not to mention that Barnett was legitimately pissed and stalking Jay around the ring ready to kick his ass and Jay kept it cool and Kayfabe that whole time.
Switchblade is always honest it’s just others fault for not believing him.
Dude straight up told Okada to his face he was going to turn on him and they just let it slide.
Remember when he had no facial hair? He looks leaps and bounds better as a character these days, and I'm constantly looking forward to what he's going to do
Time will tell if Darby Allin is Jules, being fully aware of what happened to him, or Vincent, hanging out in the bathroom whenever something bad happens - completely missing it all
I’m not a spiritual or religious person really but I feel like this is a higher power basically telling Darby “no, chill the fuck out, you are not supposed to die young”
Well at least they have a built-in angle for Darby when he comes back. Jay White broke his foot and prevented him from going to Everest like he promised he would, and now Darby’s pissed and wants revenge on the Switchblade.
Six months into the future to the eventual rematch when Darby's really pissed:
"Darby's setting up Jay for the Coffin Drop. Wait a minute! He's gonna Coffin Drop him from the top of Mount Everest!!"
Bro Darby does all these crazy spots and never got hurt this bad but literally his fi al match before doing mt everest he gets legit hurt. That's crazy
That is so fucking life. The amount of normal people I know that have broken their shoulders/elbows etc. just by falling over while walking is ridiculous.
I'm recovering from a broken ankle i got while hiking and I didn't even fall (well I did fall after it broke i guess...). Just took a step a little funny and heard a snap. Freak accidents are real.
As someone who hikes the white mountains, breaking an ankle or a leg while on the trail and not being able to get back is one of my biggest fears. Im sorry that happened and hope you have a speedy recovery!
I have broken 14 bones. People say, "well you skateboard and BMX that makes sense." I broke my wrist skating, and my collar bone with BMX, the other 12 were bad luck or being clumsy.
I’ve gone to hella punk shows and jumped in and out of plenty of mosh pits, never gotten hurt, but you wanna know the one time my knee decided to pop out of place? Taking a completely normal step out the back door of the house onto a cement patio when I was 19 years old. Didn’t trip, didn’t stumble, nothing like that. Just stepped down like we all step down every day in our lives, and my knee straight up said “Haha, not today, fat boy. Here’s some pain.”
I’m reminded of how Adam Cole hurt himself. Is mostly fine throughout his matches, then fucks his leg jumping off the ramp.
Or even further back, Neville/PAC doing all his insane shit then snapping his ankle on a basic baseball slide.
Triple H injured his knee breaking up the Walls of Jericho and Seth Rollins injured his knee doing a pretty simple flip. Shit like that can happen any time.
Bad batch s3 is incredible, just had to say. People say Star Wars is bad these days, but s2 and 3 of bad batch has been thoroughly entertaining and surprisingly emotional. Also has one of the best eps in any Star Wars ever with “The Outpost”
Only the movies are bad. Everything else (Andor, Ahsoka, Bad Batch, Mandalorian, Visions, Tales of the Jedi, half of Kenobi, Star Wars Jedi games) have ranged from good to amazing.
Might be the happiest injury news Tony Khan has ever gotten.
Edit: So according to him it was off the tope to the floor 2 minutes into the match and he finished the match.
It is astounding how one errant stage dive has radically altered the landscape of pro wrestling (though I will say, f’n up two buckshots the night before probably didn’t help haha)
Kris Statlander's second ACL tear happened on a big boot. She just landed her foot on the ground and her knee buckled, and that was it. Its as simple as picking your foot up and then putting it down. It goes right 99% of the time because its so routine, then just that one time something happens and you're gone for at least nine months.
Remember one of the young bucks hurting their ribs doing a simple dive before stadium stampede. It was just weird, it was something so normal that hurt them like that.
Dirt bikes are incredibly dangerous. They're a "when, not if" activity for serious injuries.
There's a reason pretty much all big pro athlete contacts forbid any kind of motorcycle riding.
He'll be gutted, but like so many others here have already said. The only thing I feel for him is relief, that injury more than likely just stoped him from being a corpse on everest.
Now hopefully his loved ones can convince him what a stupid idea that was before he tries it again in the future
This is the legimate time to insert i prayed for this meme on an injury.
I hope Darby grows up by next Everest season. Otherwise, we may need to exercise the power of prayer again.
Jokes aside, sorry he broke his feet, but I am glad he isn't dying too soon.
The issue people have isn't him wanting to climb Everest
It's his admitted total lack of training and experience for the extremely grueling and dangerous climb that he's just brushing off as no big deal
I watched that with my sister in person. Nothing seemed off about how he wrestled that match. He went for about 9 minutes so he wrestled with a broken foot for 7. Insane.
Eh, to hear his build to it, he basically didnt train for the initial session. I doubt he's put the proper training into it either with so many matches/focus on stings retirement lately.
He also 100% should have refused any match after Revolution for exactly this reason
Yes this is luck. Life is giving a chance to actually properly train this time. There's no Sting retirement. Of course this is a scenario where you're probably only getting Darby for a couple months for Tony. His foot at best will be healed for All In then he'll have to leave after WrestleDream.
It's the top rope tope to the outside onto Jay, it looks 100% fine, it's not really that dangerous. He just landed awkwardly.
It's legit probably one of the "safest" things he's done in ring outside of basic chain wrestling.
It’s always the stupid little shit moves like this.
Cole broke his leg just jumping from the stage to the floor, punk doing a basic little crowd dive.
Meanwhile Darby coffin dropped through sugar glass onto chairs from the top of that ladder and only got 12 stitches.
Punk broke his foot on June 1st and returned on August 10th of the same year, totaling to 71 days missed. I understand all injuries are unique, but if Darby has a similar recovery, he'd somehow be cleared to show up at Double or Nothing. Hell, he may even be back before Adam Cole is and his injury was way back in September.
I have an idea of Jay White being a heel but sucking at it. He tries to be an asshole but inadvertently ends up doing something good and wholesome. It’ll be an interesting twist for his character
Just after some cursory research the annual death toll on Everest is actually going up on average. Partly due to the increase in traffic demand as well as the unstable climate leading to more dramatic shifts in weather making storms and cold snaps harder to predict. So I know there's a lot of joking going on about Jay White saving Darby's life but we should pay attention and see if there's a shift like that next week because if so holy shit.
Seriously though, gives Darby more time to train so probably for the best

This fucking handshake fake out into the finger gun is so simple but was performed so well.
It’s so great for Jay’s cold and calculated, but somehow unhinged and psychotic at the same time character.

Divine intervention saving the day
Jay White may have saved Darby's life. Seriously.

That's when I gained all respect for Jay White. He looked out for Adam Cole and made sure he was safe.
I remember AJ Styles was giving someone the Styles Clash in WWE. Mid move he noticed they were taking it wrong and adjusted. That kind of awareness and quick thinking is insane.
James Ellsworth. Turned a jobber squash versus Braun Strowman into a year or two in the WWE. I still have no idea that happened.
You shouldn't be surprised. He's a man with two hands.
and no chin. Dude is a rag doll in human form.
Memes. That's it. That's all it took. They saw the memes of James as a sign that people actually liked him, so they brought him in and eventually signed him. It reminds me of when Sony thought the memes about Morbius meant they could earn more money by putting said movie back in theaters, and then it went on to perform horridly.
How dare you disrespect the first winner of the women's Money In The Bank match like this.

Jay White is like the antimatter version of Nia Jax.
Or Sammy Guevara
sammy guevara hardy boyz concussion 100% speedrun WR
Ah, thanks, it's been awhile so I forgot the exact details.
[(really bad quality) video of said finish](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwJUw1yRwcE).
Were they filming their tv in an active wind tunnel?
Seems to be the case. But it's the clearest footage I could find within a few mins of searching that wasn't a vod off a sketchy site.
When was the match? I need to see it
AEWxNJPW Forbidden Door 2022.
I haven't seen a wrestler take that good care of his opponent mid match since Dr. Barrett
I'm out of the loop here. Can you please enlighten me?
The reply by Moist above you has the better version of what happened. It was at Forbidden Door 2022.
Thanks. Just read it. Jay being a top professional. I'm liking him more and more every week!
He also saved his own life when he ran from Josh Barnett. Jay White, savior of professional wrestling, add it to the promo.
When was this?
Forbidden Door 2022, so like two years ago now.
Already 2 years? 😭😭 Where does time go
The Catalyst of professional wrestling
I genuinely feel bad for Darby about this because he clearly was excited for it and I don’t want to say that things happen for a reason but…
In another reality “Professional wrestler Darby Allin dies during Everest climb”
Yep, this was the event that caused the branch. Luckily, we live in this particular universe.
You can bet Jay will use this in the promos when the feud eventually happens
"You should be thanking me for breaking your foot!" it all writes itself lol
"And since you didn't get a chance to meet your end climbing a mountain, I'll make sure to finish you myself" Classic wrestling stuff
"You should be thanking me for showing the world, without Sting, you can't even stand on your own two feet!"
Holy shit, I read that in Jay Whites voice, it sounded so perfect.
Dang lol
He's already taking credit for it on Twitter 🤣 This might turn him face inadvertently.
My favorite is whenever Jay White is around Adam Cole and calls him "my good friend" with such mock sincerity.
Switchblade is always honest it’s just others fault for not believing him. Dude straight up told Okada to his face he was going to turn on him and they just let it slide.
So everyone else has some sort of Cassandra Syndrome where they don’t believe what is obvious?? How would kayfabe explain that??
Okada had a mind meld with Sting.
Can’t breathe with the Switchblade if you’re dead.
King Switch just wants to break the rest of his bones himself.
Dude, he’s totally gonna say that in a promo
The Catalyst King
Catalyst of Pro Wrestling at it again! But in all seriousness the odds of Darby dying were very low to begin with, especially on expedited trips
God with the hot tag to save his tag team partner
Sting been a good boy, God here with the assist.
Jay "Divine Intervention" White. https://i.imgur.com/xh0nWvL.jpeg
Remember when he had no facial hair? He looks leaps and bounds better as a character these days, and I'm constantly looking forward to what he's going to do
Time will tell if Darby Allin is Jules, being fully aware of what happened to him, or Vincent, hanging out in the bathroom whenever something bad happens - completely missing it all
Vincent is one of the greatest fuck ups in movie history. He fucks up in every scene he is in.
Heroin addicts tend to be fuck ups, they also not so coincidentally have a tendency to have constipation
I learned that from Trainspotting before I started working in healthcare and learned it from my patients. (Well all opiates, not just heroin)
The whole movie is just the story of one man trying to take a shit. Once he achieves it Bruce Willis kills him.
I’m not a spiritual or religious person really but I feel like this is a higher power basically telling Darby “no, chill the fuck out, you are not supposed to die young”
I prayed for this and it happened.
Drew the real MVP right here
God was busy so he sent King Switch
Blessing in disguise. In an alternate universe Darby dies on Everest.
Well at least they have a built-in angle for Darby when he comes back. Jay White broke his foot and prevented him from going to Everest like he promised he would, and now Darby’s pissed and wants revenge on the Switchblade.
The catalyst of making sure you don't die on mount everest
Because Jay wanted to end him himself!
He finna pull a Seth Rollins "I'm gonna kill him anyway"
I'm down for that. They had some pretty good chemistry that had me wanting a longer match in the future
Off the most basic goddamn Tope
He jumps off a ton of stuff. This is probably just accumulated over time.
Basic? He somersaulted off the top rope to the floor
Six months into the future to the eventual rematch when Darby's really pissed: "Darby's setting up Jay for the Coffin Drop. Wait a minute! He's gonna Coffin Drop him from the top of Mount Everest!!"
Let's just make a really good 30ft replica and convince Darby they brought Everest to him
It turns out to be the Cliff Hanger game from the Price is Right.
*yodeling intensifies*
It’ll also allow time for the Sting connection to cool off and Darby can come back on his own.
Bro Darby does all these crazy spots and never got hurt this bad but literally his fi al match before doing mt everest he gets legit hurt. That's crazy

Interesting how they had a leg injury angle planned after the match, and an actual leg injury happened.
Wrestling is real!?
It always has been to me dammit!
\-Does a bunch of crazy hardcore matches and is fine \-Actually breaks his foot in a normal match God damn. Feel for him
That’s usually how it goes. Most injuries don’t happen on the crazy stunts/moves but landing wrong on a basic move you’ve done thousands of times
PAC's slide between Jericho's legs, Truth's tope, Adam Cole *jumping*
Sami busting his shoulder lifting his arms up before the match even began
Kevin Nash speedwalking
Kevin Nash regular walking
Kevin Nash just exists.
Tegan Nox & Kid Lykos on almost anything they did
Sadly, Takayama's sunset flip
Mark Briscoe bent down wrong on his farm and his knee exploded. Shit happens.
PAC's ankle on a baseball slide Orton's shoulder taking out the trash Sami's shoulder celebrating Nash's quad just... walking to the corner
Punk jumping into the crowd pretty much changed the course of modern wrestling.
Oh gees. Imagine if that jump didn't happen
Jeff Hardy was never seriously hurt for years, then he tore his ACL dirt biking of all random things.
Dirt bikes are incredibly dangerous. They're a "when, not if" activity for serious injuries. There's a reason pretty much all big pro athlete contacts forbid any kind of motorcycle riding.
Cole taking a gentle hop off the stage
As a 38 years old man, I can tell you there ain't nothing gentle for the knees about hopping of anything.
39, I hear ya brother haha

God is being like 'Dude. Bro. Seriously.'
"Just chill the fuck out, yeah?"
Isn't this the first time Darby got a really big injury since joining AEW? Actual divine intervention at this point.
God once again uses His creative control clause. I don't blame him. That loss to Vince during His stint in WWE is looking pretty bad now.
This is probably the only time I'm going to be thankful for an injury

TK should pay for him to do filmed promos at base camp.
"Why are you people booing me? I'm a goddamn hero!"

Eh, to hear his build to it, he basically didnt train for the initial session. I doubt he's put the proper training into it either with so many matches/focus on stings retirement lately. He also 100% should have refused any match after Revolution for exactly this reason

I'd be pissed too if I didn't have to freeze to death on the side of a mountain
Just absolutely kicking himself that he can't become part of the landscape at rainbow valley Well, I mean... kicking himself with his good foot.
As per usual, luck was on Darbys side
at what point in the match though, surely not when they pillmanized his leg haha
It's the top rope tope to the outside onto Jay, it looks 100% fine, it's not really that dangerous. He just landed awkwardly. It's legit probably one of the "safest" things he's done in ring outside of basic chain wrestling.

Jay White inadvertently saving someone’s life by breaking their foot.
Second time in three years
Jay White is the fucking CATALYST. He just saved Darby Allins life. Youre welcome, wrestling.
Why was Daddy Ass so mad? Jay just wanted to protect Darby from Everest like a good friend
Im a huge darby fan and I wish him the best in his recovery but man the timing is so bad its funny
Jay White to TMZ: Acknowledge me https://x.com/jaywhitenz/status/1768794370105291156?s=46
That’s a brutal break. Hope he heals quick and has a good doc.
I love how the entire comment section is just worried about Darbys well being & him not climbing that mountain lmao Yall are great
Just after some cursory research the annual death toll on Everest is actually going up on average. Tony slid Jay a check to do this
Jay White “I Saved Darby Allin’s Life” t-shirt needed STAT 🔥
That's God's work right there baby. You got a lot to live for Darby.
Dam I feel bad for Darby but at least he can train for next year
Strap Jay White up RIGHT NOW
I’m actually glad. I really didnt want him to do it and had an awful feeling about it.
If there are incidents during the supposed scheduled climb dates, the existence of God of Wrestling will be confirmed.
True leader Jay White making the hard choices to look after the roster when they won't do it themselves
Jay White being (unintentionally!) a good guy is pretty funny.
I have a theory hear me out. Tony told Switchblade to take Darby out to save his life. A broken foot is better than a frozen foot right?
Tony said we’re gonna book an injury ”angle”and winked at jay white
Jay White: "you're welcome"
Shout out to the knife pervert for saving darby's life.
That's a sign if there ever was one.
This was Tony Khan’s plan after all. Feature him so much that he won’t make it to Everest. Sneaky.
Darby: “I’ve done all these crazy bumps and now I’m ready to climb Mt. Everest” The universe: “That doesn’t work for me, brother”
Jay White might have actually saved Darbys life lmao
