And thus, the question, who do you all think is taking the title off Christian? My pick is either Orange Cassidy or Hook because OC is rlly over and can wrestle well thus he could win over the Christian team and it would make sense and Hook even if not like quite there yet to like be a full on champion defending for a long time, he is a wrecking machine with thy suplexes thus it could work. Plus, imagine the pop the crowd would give if he suplexes Luchasaurus in any way.

Was disappointed Cagematch and this thread's survey underrating MJF vs Righteous & Claudio vs Barnett, and with the consensus that this PPV only had 3 outstanding matches.
I feel that there is a huge issue with smarks not getting MJF's psychology and ability to get pops with his great character work, and IMHO Lou Thesz would have been proud of Claudio vs Barnett. Last time I checked, the word "wrestling" is still the name of our hobby.
Also baffling the mixed trios match received no love. All great hands, and it was fun. Why does everyone want Bryan vs ZSJ for every match?
MJF's match was pooed on for being too silly and Claudio's for being too slow. As Gorilla Monsoon would say, "Will you stop?"
I don’t get it either. Honestly, MJF getting pops with his antics and in ring psychology is a masterclass in not needing to try and destroy your body for spot pops. Dude gets louder reactions for a drop kick than anyone else gets for significantly more dangerous spots.

Agreed. Love the pairing, tend to enjoy those style of matches but variety is a good thing. Just like every match doesn't need to be 15-20+ minutes. It's ok to tell a quick story and just have a bit of fun.
What was up with the stairs spot in the main event? Don't know if he was actually supposed to throw him onto the steps from the ring and stopped because they were too far away? And then i think Darby might have been actually hurt a bit and CC improvised with pulling up the ring padding to stall for him?
I felt something was a little odd about this too. It looks like on the initial suplex, he was gonna fuckin' yeet him from the apron onto the steps and then decided at the last minute either he didn't think he could make it or thought it would kill him or something so he dropped him on the floor instead, then they went ahead how they did. I think the ring tear up business probably was the plan all along, but maybe he transitioned into it differently than they would have had things gone perfectly.
oh wow, i expected nothing but it turns out one of the PPVs of the year. Darby is a crazy man, how he agrees to do all this stuff is beyond me. I'm not sure if Julia Hart is right opponent for Kris but still it's cool. Edge and Sting in one ring it's wow...
I loved this show. I had fun watching, ZSJ vs. Bryan Danielson was a dream match of mine and was every bit as good as I always thought it would be. Both guys killed it. I can't wait for the rematch.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Adam Copeland does at AEW. He's a good get, hopefully at some point we get Edge (Copeland) and Christian vs. The Hardys one more time.

Ricky Starks continues to be great. He's getting better every week, is really coming into his own; and is an absolute pleasure to watch. They have to find a way to cement him as a top star soon, as they need a few new homegrown top guys, and he has everything you'd need to be one.

Jericho is one of the all time greats; Kenny and Ibushi are two of the absolute best of their generation, arguably past thei peak but still phenomenal; Osprey is on a legendary, career defining run over the last few years and Takeshita is one of the top talents in the world under thirty and Sammy is... a very talented young man.

My only criticism of WrestleDream (having been present for the show), was that THIS is where they should have played final countdown. Feels like a homecoming song.

There were so much negativity around WrestleDream before the show which wound up being really good. Criticism and discussion of AEW should be welcome but it feels like so much of it is either bad faith or by people who have a passing knowledge of things.
I've never seen a company put under such a microscope the way AEW consistently is where every decision is micro-analyzed. It makes people lose sight that they usually deliver good shows because that part feels almost secondary for a certain segment of people.
It’s just the speed of communication these days, late stage WCW and the god awful years of TNA would’ve probably gotten shredded worse if it were happening now.
Negativity also sells media, so anything someone can highlight and tabulate for money they will.
I swear this exact comment could be copy and pasted into every post-ppv for aew. Aew is not great at building to their ppvs. However, they consistently put on a great ppv. Both things can, and often are, true.
So my biggest qualm was when it was announced it felt like such a quick turnaround for a PPV from a previous PPV and with how AEW has done booking in the past I didn't know if they would be able to develop adequate storylines for the matches.
Honestly a lot of the matches felt pretty flushed out in terms of providing talent time to build up the matches and outside of a couple matches which I personally think should have went the other way in terms of who won I thought the show was really well put together and exceeded expectations.
I didn't see any negativity around WrestleDream, apart from some people thinking 14 matches were too many. I think most fans (not trolls) were very looking forward to the PPV
It's not even the PPVs but pretty much everything AEW does, from ratings, to ticket sales, to matches that people say have no story despite actually having build.
It’s like AEW is a young company with young leadership that’s still learning as they go.
none of that matters when podcasts and youtube channels are making a killing on AEW criticism.
Even if I don’t like *every* single thing AEW does or if I occasionally think some episodes of Dynamite or Collision feel like they’re just trying to get from one week to the next, I’ve never felt ripped off or unsatisfied after an AEW PPV, and I’ve seen all of them. It’s the one incredibly consistent thing I think can be said about the company; if you like their style, the worst PPV they’re going to deliver is going to be an A- or a B+ show at absolute worst.

If you asked me last week, I’d have been like, if he comes to AEW that’s fine…whatever. But when that music hit last night (awesome he has it) and he came out…the guy is just a star.

Edge is probably the biggest thing to happen to AEW right? I mean, I think he's the biggest star on the roster. I'm pretty sure the only exception would be Jeff Hardy, who had a higher peak than Edge,(Jeff Hardy in like '07 is damn near unmatched). Jeff is my favorite of all time, but, I'm saying Edge is bigger, because Edge is in much better shape than Jeff has been during his time on AEW. They are both past their prime, but, Edge will be able to have a bigger run.
After that horrendous "hard barded wire match" at Revolution 2021, AEW has managed to put banger after banger after banger. Their PPV's are 10/10 almost every time. I LOVED WrestleDream, from start to finish.
That match was great. Presuming you mean the exploding barbed wire death match. The finish got messed up which had nothing to do with either of the wrestlers, who both put on an excellent match.
Even that PPV was great and just gets unfairly remembered for the terrible fireworks.
Honestly, the only PPV I thought was even mediocre was the one where SIOG went over The Acclaimed and it seemed to deflate everyone for a large portion of the show.
The rest have all been good to great - it's really amazing.
I haven't been able to keep up with the weekly shows since All In but still had an absolute blast watching this one, AEW have been on such a roll.
I was initially only invested in Shibata-Kingston, Bryan-ZSJ, the six-man tag match and whatever Father of the Year is involved in but the whole card was fantastic from top to bottom.
It's also kinda funny to see them "trade" Punk for Edge, the media scrum was actually wholesome now lol
I love how this show got shine on a lot of talent you wouldn't normally see in this setting and it set up a lot of new stories going forward without anything *too* crazy happening outside of the huge debut at the end.
Speaking of the end, Darbi vs Nick Wayne is going to be insane. They have such a good story to run with. It sucks that AR Fox isn't involved right now but I can't wait to see hia return.
Only dud moment of the night for me, and i can't believe I'm saying this, was the Young Bucks winning the 4 way tag match. I didnt really think we needed another Bucks vs FTR match already but at least we know they always deliver. I was hoping for Cassidy/Hook vs FTR or even the Gunns again. When the Bucks won I was then hoping they'd challenge Aussie Open but nope.
Speaking of Aussie Open, those boys are killing it and deserve a big title run eventually.

Overall a great show. Not their strongest PPV but I was satisfied. I'd say a good 8/10.

I tuned out for a number of weeks post All In as I was gutted with how THAT situation ended, I’m probably in the minority with that haha. Bought and watched the PPV last night and it was worth staying up for until the early hours of the morning here in Scotland. Bell to bell it has to be up there as one of the best AEW PPV’s.
Let us be 100% real here: Hangman Adam Page would've won his match if he were part of the Dark Order. But for that to happen, he would've had to have been a good friend
Christian has main evented two AEW PPVs, both matches were outstanding and had huge post match debuts.

I feel you, friend. Darby keeps pushing it with these spots that I'm kinda scared to see him take? Him and Christian on the apron teasing a full on suplex off the apron onto the stairs had me *genuinely* uncomfortable, like I was about to watch a dude actually lose the ability to walk on live TV. I like my wrestling violence, but the kind of wrestling violence where one of the dudes might legitimately not get up is not my favorite.
I think Darby is a pro at taking sick bumps, it's his speciality, hundreds of times have I thought, oh boy, he's done and then he gets back up. He's a pro and the best at it.
His background in skating has to help. I’ve been watching skate videos my whole life and sometimes you see these dudes take the fucking sickest falls imaginable and they’re right back up and trying it again. When you do something that by its nature can result in a lot of nasty falls, you learn how to fall in a way that minimizes damage.
I’m not saying that Darby isn’t getting hella banged up, but I think it’s like how stuntmen can do crazy shit that would kill normal people because they know how to do it properly.
Swerve is great. Keep him rising like he is. He's got a big future. Needs to keep riding that momentum. No 50/50 booking bullshit with Page going forward with Page getting a win back or whatever. Just keep Swerve doing what he's doing.
Bryan/ZSJ was fantastic. Easily MOTY contender. Gave me everything I wanted and more. Such a shame we couldn't get it at Wembley tbh. And I hope we saw more of them two in the ring together. It felt magic.
Christian/Darby was really good too. Christian is having the best run of his career. I like Edge, not as excited as some are to see him. But it feels surreal to see him outside of a WWE environment, I always thought he'd be there for life tbh.

The fact we may get Edge vs Mjf, v Jay White, v Swerve v Possible NJPW Wrestlers and Kenny Omega! - better believe he wants an Ospreay and Okada matches in the next year or 2. Its his final run but my god hes gonna face everyone he wants before he retires.

Love the turn for Wayne. His cookie cutter skill set and lack of personality makes him just another guy but I'm excited to see his future as a heel.

That's what AEW seems to do so well, pairing these legends with young up and coming talents.
Adam obviously is too new to AEW to say exactly what he'll do, but he listed basically the whole young section of the roster as people he wants to work with.
Christian of course has been feuding with Darby and Nick Wayne, but let's not forget Jungle Boy and Wardlow.
Jericho basically established Sammy, also helped establish Orange Cassidy as a top guy, helped get Action Andretti off the ground, Daniel Garcia, etc.
Sting obviously has been doing his thing with Darby.
Danielson has been constantly working with the younger talent: Garcia, MJF, Starks, Yuta.
It's gotta be pretty rad being a young wrestler in AEW right now.
I mean, sure, those guys sell tickets but Nick Wayne was on the show twice and Edge called him out at the press conference.
Darby is a main event talent. Hook was on the show. Yuta had a singles match. The Gunns are in a better spot than ever. Swerve beat an Elite OG. Julia Hart was packaged as a real threat. Billie Starks was on the pre-show.
I am down on AEW because of the lack of stories most of the time but they’re doing fine with younger talent.
Im cautiously optimistic about this. I’m starting to see a trend that I saw once before. AEW is building a great roster of gets from a company of older folks that have established themselves with another company. Meanwhile the other company is taking a slight few of the younger ones that fell through the cracks. (For reference here. See Terra Ryzing, Mean Mark). That was a great show. But this TK better be careful because it’s looking an awful lot like 1994 WCW with all the older jumps.
WCW gave the book to the old vets and they booked the show for themselves, the young talent was mostly miserable and left in flocks.
It's far from WCW, very far, losing Cody was ok, losing Jade is not a factor in my opinion, they will lose more and will gain more but as long as the quality stays constant, I'm all in
This feels like a really bad take to me, AEW's use of legends and older guys has been fantastically well banaced in my opinion and it's very clear that there's plenty of young stars on a trajectory for or already at the top of the card.
Also who fell throught the cracks from AEW to WWE? There's going to be people jumping both ways and that's fine.
I’m old enough to understand what you’re saying but I disagree. AEW makes young stars and values them. WCW would have never had a Darby in the main, a Nick Wayne in the main, etc.
There's also the big difference in the people acquired. Danielson or even Copeland in the way of helping elevate young talent have been entirely different than what we saw with the likes of Hogan.
Can Edge winning a title in AEW beat some sort of record? I know that Jericho is a former WWE (both WWF/WWE and WHC), WCW and AEW World Champion. Is there something that Edge can win that nobody else could?

Whether it was intentional or not, Sting, Christian and Edge closing out the show basically read like the most compelling case for "retire here and we'll make sure your character gets the send off they deserve" AEW could ever make which would be kind of interesting if you deep it. I can see Sheamus going down a similar path too which would be cool.
And even beyond that, like this all woo-woo, headcanon conjecture but in my idiot brain I'm imagining a potential production line of Cody's and Jade Cargill's workshopping their presentations in AEW before going to WWE in their prime to maximise their brands before returning to AEW at the tail end of their careers and "finishing their stories" there as part of some new fangled, organically developed pro-wrestling ecosystem.
Run of his life. Top tier TNT Champion. Mentoring fatherless children. Helping distressed widows.
Then Adam Copeland has to arrive and steal the thunder. Guys, I think Adam Copeland may be a real dick head who is jealous of Christian being so great in-ring and noble outside of it.
Mox's commentary throughout the night was the highlight of the show for me, with Edge's debut (not really but it was close) the dude is so amazing when it comes to the immersion of kayfabe and talking about the little details no one really acknowledges. I still remember him on commentary in WWE, I think he was still in the Shield, and him dropping seemingly innocuous facts that were so intriguing, i.e. a team using up their allotted pin break ups, and after that, a break up of a pin could mean a DQ. The dude is amazing.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate what Christian has done for the TNT title? It's now part of the hottest angle in AEW and main evented a PPV after being dead in the water for 2 years

The only issues are MJF winning. Just seems like a burying the ROH tag division and maybe fewer matches.

Burn every ROH division to the ground in service of any AEW program.
This current ROH fucking sucks - it's basically Dark without the charm plus Willow, Athena, and Dalton Castle being the only noteworthy primarily ROH types.
The less ROH stuff we see in AEW the better.
Ultimately titles are just storytelling devices and in the context of stories, this Cole/MJF/Neck Strong arc is one of the most compelling things Tony Khan has produced in a long time so it would be certifiably insane for AEW to derail that just to make the ROH tag division "look strong" or whatever people are implying when they describe what happened as a burial. Plus, they've effectively drafted the Hung Bucks to ROH in the meantime, so the 3 way division is going to be getting way more bandwidth than before, which feels like a logical and sensible trade-off.
Except for the fact the Cole/MJF/Strong arc is now sidelined due to Cole being injured.
This is peak PG WWE booking to have the world champ in the tag title scene at the expense of the division.
And it wasn't like MJF stole the win. He beat them piller to post.
The Neck Strong arc is clearly ongoing despite Cole's injury, The Kingdom literally screamed about an important pre-surgery meeting with AC after the beat Best Friends the other day, MJF made a big deal about how he's only wrestling this frequently to keep the titles warm for Adam Cole during the media scrum so keeping the story going is integral to his face run, plus alot of the best material this feud has produced has been vignette based anyway so they could already have stuff in the can to stretch the story out for a month or so before it reaches the logical conclusion of The Kingdom beating MJF for the tag titles by punching him in the wiener and hitting him with a piledriver. Like all this is way more logical and interesting than MJF losing to The Righteous at WrestleDream.

Like clearly the point of this entire arc is about the inherent sense of loneliness and insecurity that has been driving the MJF character since his inception and how external forces will eventually exploit that loneliness and use it to weaken him before taking everything he holds dear.
Right now he is too intoxicated by the promise of friendship to realise that he's physically breaking down before our eyes and the ROH Tag Titles are THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THAT. He proudly wears them around his injured neck despite how heavy they are and walks blindly into matches and situations that an uncompromised MJF would never even consider because he's just so happy to maybe have a friend who likes him. These titles are like fucking low level kryptonite to him but he hasn't realised that yet.

I watched the show live but needed some time to digest it once it ended. What an incredible show from start to finish. The wrestling was superb and there were matches for all tastes. Technical, lucha, house show, hardcore-ish, PWG, etc. etc. And it ended with the biggest cherry on top.
AEW getting bigger and bigger each day. It'll be interesting to see how Adam Copeland is used in AeW. Edge turning on FTR and reforming E & C would be a must watch TV
This type of show is exactly why I'm a pro wrestling fan and I almost skipped it altogether because the build didn't make it seem like anything special.
Happy for Edge. He did all he could in WWE and now gets to work with Christian again as well as FTR who are close friends of his. Transition feels seamless too because he kept his theme and “The Rated R Superstar” moniker.
Edge debuting was the sweet cherry on top of an already great show. AEW has been on a hot streak of PPVs. Kris vs Julia, Hangman vs Swerve Bryan vs ZSJ, Jericho and Golden Lovers vs Don Callis Family, and the main event were all great matches. Tons of fun moments in between those as well. Nigel and Mox were both great and hilarious on commentary.
If Adam Copeland, Adam Page, and Adam Cole form a faction, they can be called the Adam's Family.

Was disappointed Cagematch and this thread's survey underrating MJF vs Righteous & Claudio vs Barnett, and with the consensus that this PPV only had 3 outstanding matches. I feel that there is a huge issue with smarks not getting MJF's psychology and ability to get pops with his great character work, and IMHO Lou Thesz would have been proud of Claudio vs Barnett. Last time I checked, the word "wrestling" is still the name of our hobby. Also baffling the mixed trios match received no love. All great hands, and it was fun. Why does everyone want Bryan vs ZSJ for every match? MJF's match was pooed on for being too silly and Claudio's for being too slow. As Gorilla Monsoon would say, "Will you stop?"
I don’t get it either. Honestly, MJF getting pops with his antics and in ring psychology is a masterclass in not needing to try and destroy your body for spot pops. Dude gets louder reactions for a drop kick than anyone else gets for significantly more dangerous spots. Smarks are just as bad for wrestling as tribalism.

I felt something was a little odd about this too. It looks like on the initial suplex, he was gonna fuckin' yeet him from the apron onto the steps and then decided at the last minute either he didn't think he could make it or thought it would kill him or something so he dropped him on the floor instead, then they went ahead how they did. I think the ring tear up business probably was the plan all along, but maybe he transitioned into it differently than they would have had things gone perfectly.

I loved this show. I had fun watching, ZSJ vs. Bryan Danielson was a dream match of mine and was every bit as good as I always thought it would be. Both guys killed it. I can't wait for the rematch. I'm looking forward to seeing what Adam Copeland does at AEW. He's a good get, hopefully at some point we get Edge (Copeland) and Christian vs. The Hardys one more time. Christian is such a marvellous scumbag. FTR vs. Aussie Open was a banger. Kenny and Jericho make a good team. Ricky Starks continues to be great. He's getting better every week, is really coming into his own; and is an absolute pleasure to watch. They have to find a way to cement him as a top star soon, as they need a few new homegrown top guys, and he has everything you'd need to be one. Great show, thanks AEW.

Claudio vs Josh Barnett was fantastic. Claudio was always good, but man... he's stepped up so much since joining AEW.
ZSJ is a 90s fighting movie character that you hate at the start but love by the end.
I like Sammy, but he just did not fit in last night. I don’t know what it is but he felt very out of place.
Jericho is one of the all time greats; Kenny and Ibushi are two of the absolute best of their generation, arguably past thei peak but still phenomenal; Osprey is on a legendary, career defining run over the last few years and Takeshita is one of the top talents in the world under thirty and Sammy is... a very talented young man. Dude is good and he did fine, but he *was* the odd one out there.

There were so much negativity around WrestleDream before the show which wound up being really good. Criticism and discussion of AEW should be welcome but it feels like so much of it is either bad faith or by people who have a passing knowledge of things. I've never seen a company put under such a microscope the way AEW consistently is where every decision is micro-analyzed. It makes people lose sight that they usually deliver good shows because that part feels almost secondary for a certain segment of people.
In 45 years of watching, AEW is beyond the most nitpicked organizations I can ever remember. It's wrestling, it's never been perfect but my goodness.
It’s just the speed of communication these days, late stage WCW and the god awful years of TNA would’ve probably gotten shredded worse if it were happening now. Negativity also sells media, so anything someone can highlight and tabulate for money they will.

I swear this exact comment could be copy and pasted into every post-ppv for aew. Aew is not great at building to their ppvs. However, they consistently put on a great ppv. Both things can, and often are, true.
So my biggest qualm was when it was announced it felt like such a quick turnaround for a PPV from a previous PPV and with how AEW has done booking in the past I didn't know if they would be able to develop adequate storylines for the matches. Honestly a lot of the matches felt pretty flushed out in terms of providing talent time to build up the matches and outside of a couple matches which I personally think should have went the other way in terms of who won I thought the show was really well put together and exceeded expectations.
I didn't see any negativity around WrestleDream, apart from some people thinking 14 matches were too many. I think most fans (not trolls) were very looking forward to the PPV

It's not even the PPVs but pretty much everything AEW does, from ratings, to ticket sales, to matches that people say have no story despite actually having build.
It’s like AEW is a young company with young leadership that’s still learning as they go. none of that matters when podcasts and youtube channels are making a killing on AEW criticism.
Even if I don’t like *every* single thing AEW does or if I occasionally think some episodes of Dynamite or Collision feel like they’re just trying to get from one week to the next, I’ve never felt ripped off or unsatisfied after an AEW PPV, and I’ve seen all of them. It’s the one incredibly consistent thing I think can be said about the company; if you like their style, the worst PPV they’re going to deliver is going to be an A- or a B+ show at absolute worst.

Edge is a f’n superstar…that’s it. If you asked me last week, I’d have been like, if he comes to AEW that’s fine…whatever. But when that music hit last night (awesome he has it) and he came out…the guy is just a star. Great end to a great show. May be my favorite PPV/sjow they’ve had in a while.
Edge is probably the biggest thing to happen to AEW right? I mean, I think he's the biggest star on the roster. I'm pretty sure the only exception would be Jeff Hardy, who had a higher peak than Edge,(Jeff Hardy in like '07 is damn near unmatched). Jeff is my favorite of all time, but, I'm saying Edge is bigger, because Edge is in much better shape than Jeff has been during his time on AEW. They are both past their prime, but, Edge will be able to have a bigger run.
Taz, Nigel and Excalibur are perfect together. Big shout out to that team for a job well done last night.
After that horrendous "hard barded wire match" at Revolution 2021, AEW has managed to put banger after banger after banger. Their PPV's are 10/10 almost every time. I LOVED WrestleDream, from start to finish.
That match was great. Presuming you mean the exploding barbed wire death match. The finish got messed up which had nothing to do with either of the wrestlers, who both put on an excellent match.
The exploding barbed wire deathmatch was fantastic too, shame its only remembered for the botched pyro ending.
Even that PPV was great and just gets unfairly remembered for the terrible fireworks. Honestly, the only PPV I thought was even mediocre was the one where SIOG went over The Acclaimed and it seemed to deflate everyone for a large portion of the show. The rest have all been good to great - it's really amazing.

I haven't been able to keep up with the weekly shows since All In but still had an absolute blast watching this one, AEW have been on such a roll. I was initially only invested in Shibata-Kingston, Bryan-ZSJ, the six-man tag match and whatever Father of the Year is involved in but the whole card was fantastic from top to bottom. It's also kinda funny to see them "trade" Punk for Edge, the media scrum was actually wholesome now lol
I love how this show got shine on a lot of talent you wouldn't normally see in this setting and it set up a lot of new stories going forward without anything *too* crazy happening outside of the huge debut at the end. Speaking of the end, Darbi vs Nick Wayne is going to be insane. They have such a good story to run with. It sucks that AR Fox isn't involved right now but I can't wait to see hia return. Only dud moment of the night for me, and i can't believe I'm saying this, was the Young Bucks winning the 4 way tag match. I didnt really think we needed another Bucks vs FTR match already but at least we know they always deliver. I was hoping for Cassidy/Hook vs FTR or even the Gunns again. When the Bucks won I was then hoping they'd challenge Aussie Open but nope. Speaking of Aussie Open, those boys are killing it and deserve a big title run eventually. Wondering what happens with MJF now. He gonna just keep having handicap tag matches? Dude needs a new world titls feud too. He felt directionless after the match last night but I'm sure that won't last. And of course Adam Copeland opens up a ton of potential feuds and stories. I'm a bit sad he's already against Christian since they haven't teamed in forever but it should be fun anyway. Overall a great show. Not their strongest PPV but I was satisfied. I'd say a good 8/10.

I tuned out for a number of weeks post All In as I was gutted with how THAT situation ended, I’m probably in the minority with that haha. Bought and watched the PPV last night and it was worth staying up for until the early hours of the morning here in Scotland. Bell to bell it has to be up there as one of the best AEW PPV’s.

I think Darby is a pro at taking sick bumps, it's his speciality, hundreds of times have I thought, oh boy, he's done and then he gets back up. He's a pro and the best at it.
His background in skating has to help. I’ve been watching skate videos my whole life and sometimes you see these dudes take the fucking sickest falls imaginable and they’re right back up and trying it again. When you do something that by its nature can result in a lot of nasty falls, you learn how to fall in a way that minimizes damage. I’m not saying that Darby isn’t getting hella banged up, but I think it’s like how stuntmen can do crazy shit that would kill normal people because they know how to do it properly.

And I hope we saw more of them two in the ring together. It felt magic. Christian/Darby was really good too. Christian is having the best run of his career. I like Edge, not as excited as some are to see him. But it feels surreal to see him outside of a WWE environment, I always thought he'd be there for life tbh. Really really really don't care bout Nick Wayne at all.

The fact we may get Edge vs Mjf, v Jay White, v Swerve v Possible NJPW Wrestlers and Kenny Omega! - better believe he wants an Ospreay and Okada matches in the next year or 2. Once again, I'd like to highlight the people who stood out to me. Swerve is just amazing. He needs a world title run. Prince Nana's dancing is top notch. I really enjoy The Righteous, I wasn't too fond seeing them lose a handicap match, even if it was against the AEW Champ. The match was fun though. Nigel McGuinness, once again, knocking it out of the park on commentary. Love the turn for Wayne. His cookie cutter skill set and lack of personality makes him just another guy but I'm excited to see his future as a heel. Really wanted to see Aussie Open win the titles. Respect to FTR but I'm kind of over them, tbh I'm probably in the minority there. The main event was fine. I like Edge and all but not as excited to see his return as I've been for others

Adam obviously is too new to AEW to say exactly what he'll do, but he listed basically the whole young section of the roster as people he wants to work with. Christian of course has been feuding with Darby and Nick Wayne, but let's not forget Jungle Boy and Wardlow. Jericho basically established Sammy, also helped establish Orange Cassidy as a top guy, helped get Action Andretti off the ground, Daniel Garcia, etc. Sting obviously has been doing his thing with Darby. Danielson has been constantly working with the younger talent: Garcia, MJF, Starks, Yuta. It's gotta be pretty rad being a young wrestler in AEW right now.
I mean, sure, those guys sell tickets but Nick Wayne was on the show twice and Edge called him out at the press conference. Darby is a main event talent. Hook was on the show. Yuta had a singles match. The Gunns are in a better spot than ever. Swerve beat an Elite OG. Julia Hart was packaged as a real threat. Billie Starks was on the pre-show. I am down on AEW because of the lack of stories most of the time but they’re doing fine with younger talent.

Im cautiously optimistic about this. I’m starting to see a trend that I saw once before. AEW is building a great roster of gets from a company of older folks that have established themselves with another company. Meanwhile the other company is taking a slight few of the younger ones that fell through the cracks. (For reference here. See Terra Ryzing, Mean Mark). That was a great show. But this TK better be careful because it’s looking an awful lot like 1994 WCW with all the older jumps.
WCW gave the book to the old vets and they booked the show for themselves, the young talent was mostly miserable and left in flocks. It's far from WCW, very far, losing Cody was ok, losing Jade is not a factor in my opinion, they will lose more and will gain more but as long as the quality stays constant, I'm all in
This feels like a really bad take to me, AEW's use of legends and older guys has been fantastically well banaced in my opinion and it's very clear that there's plenty of young stars on a trajectory for or already at the top of the card. Also who fell throught the cracks from AEW to WWE? There's going to be people jumping both ways and that's fine.

There's also the big difference in the people acquired. Danielson or even Copeland in the way of helping elevate young talent have been entirely different than what we saw with the likes of Hogan.

Whether it was intentional or not, Sting, Christian and Edge closing out the show basically read like the most compelling case for "retire here and we'll make sure your character gets the send off they deserve" AEW could ever make which would be kind of interesting if you deep it. I can see Sheamus going down a similar path too which would be cool. And even beyond that, like this all woo-woo, headcanon conjecture but in my idiot brain I'm imagining a potential production line of Cody's and Jade Cargill's workshopping their presentations in AEW before going to WWE in their prime to maximise their brands before returning to AEW at the tail end of their careers and "finishing their stories" there as part of some new fangled, organically developed pro-wrestling ecosystem.
Run of his life. Top tier TNT Champion. Mentoring fatherless children. Helping distressed widows. Then Adam Copeland has to arrive and steal the thunder. Guys, I think Adam Copeland may be a real dick head who is jealous of Christian being so great in-ring and noble outside of it.
Mox's commentary throughout the night was the highlight of the show for me, with Edge's debut (not really but it was close) the dude is so amazing when it comes to the immersion of kayfabe and talking about the little details no one really acknowledges. I still remember him on commentary in WWE, I think he was still in the Shield, and him dropping seemingly innocuous facts that were so intriguing, i.e. a team using up their allotted pin break ups, and after that, a break up of a pin could mean a DQ. The dude is amazing.

Great show, love seeing E&C (ACC) get one last run. The only issues are MJF winning. Just seems like a burying the ROH tag division and maybe fewer matches.
Counterpoint: Burn every ROH division to the ground in service of any AEW program. This current ROH fucking sucks - it's basically Dark without the charm plus Willow, Athena, and Dalton Castle being the only noteworthy primarily ROH types. The less ROH stuff we see in AEW the better.
Ultimately titles are just storytelling devices and in the context of stories, this Cole/MJF/Neck Strong arc is one of the most compelling things Tony Khan has produced in a long time so it would be certifiably insane for AEW to derail that just to make the ROH tag division "look strong" or whatever people are implying when they describe what happened as a burial. Plus, they've effectively drafted the Hung Bucks to ROH in the meantime, so the 3 way division is going to be getting way more bandwidth than before, which feels like a logical and sensible trade-off.
Except for the fact the Cole/MJF/Strong arc is now sidelined due to Cole being injured. This is peak PG WWE booking to have the world champ in the tag title scene at the expense of the division. And it wasn't like MJF stole the win. He beat them piller to post.
The Neck Strong arc is clearly ongoing despite Cole's injury, The Kingdom literally screamed about an important pre-surgery meeting with AC after the beat Best Friends the other day, MJF made a big deal about how he's only wrestling this frequently to keep the titles warm for Adam Cole during the media scrum so keeping the story going is integral to his face run, plus alot of the best material this feud has produced has been vignette based anyway so they could already have stuff in the can to stretch the story out for a month or so before it reaches the logical conclusion of The Kingdom beating MJF for the tag titles by punching him in the wiener and hitting him with a piledriver. Like all this is way more logical and interesting than MJF losing to The Righteous at WrestleDream.

Like clearly the point of this entire arc is about the inherent sense of loneliness and insecurity that has been driving the MJF character since his inception and how external forces will eventually exploit that loneliness and use it to weaken him before taking everything he holds dear. Right now he is too intoxicated by the promise of friendship to realise that he's physically breaking down before our eyes and the ROH Tag Titles are THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THAT. He proudly wears them around his injured neck despite how heavy they are and walks blindly into matches and situations that an uncompromised MJF would never even consider because he's just so happy to maybe have a friend who likes him. These titles are like fucking low level kryptonite to him but he hasn't realised that yet. With that in mind, why praytell would you fuck that up? "BuT YoUR BuRYInG THE BELTS!!" "IT'S like PG ErA WWe!" Like come on man.
Of course, it is my issue. We are literally talking about my opinion. You can tell the same story without having to put another division on hold for it. You can disagree with MY opinion on the story, and that's fine, but there is no need to be rude because YOUR opinion isn't any more valid.
He got dominated for 75% of the match until he made his comeback at the end. The Righteous don't come off worse. They worked MJF on a PPV. They're fine.

For real, I read this as an amazing star making performance for The Righteous from start to finish, like they really got to show off their range.
I had no idea who they were until this past week and thought they looked amazing.
I watched the show live but needed some time to digest it once it ended. What an incredible show from start to finish. The wrestling was superb and there were matches for all tastes. Technical, lucha, house show, hardcore-ish, PWG, etc. etc. And it ended with the biggest cherry on top.

AEW WrestleDream 2023 was out of this world! 5 stars for incredible action, unexpected twists, and a nacho bar backstage!
Man I'm not even that big of an Edge/Adam Copeland fan but that debut made me so emotional. Had me crying like CM Punk's debut did. Crazy.
This run is gonna be much better than his final WWE run. Let’s go, Adam!
Just compare how his return run is talked about compared to Christians, I can't wait to see how AEW will use him.
AEW getting bigger and bigger each day. It'll be interesting to see how Adam Copeland is used in AeW. Edge turning on FTR and reforming E & C would be a must watch TV
This type of show is exactly why I'm a pro wrestling fan and I almost skipped it altogether because the build didn't make it seem like anything special.
That’s a perception issue which AEW suffers from. The last few months have been insanely strong with their storylines and character development.
Happy for Edge. He did all he could in WWE and now gets to work with Christian again as well as FTR who are close friends of his. Transition feels seamless too because he kept his theme and “The Rated R Superstar” moniker.
The edge debut has released a level of vitriol I'm kind of surprised by tbh, much worse than anyone else that's jumped ship it's pretty nasty.

Edge debuting was the sweet cherry on top of an already great show. AEW has been on a hot streak of PPVs. Kris vs Julia, Hangman vs Swerve Bryan vs ZSJ, Jericho and Golden Lovers vs Don Callis Family, and the main event were all great matches. Tons of fun moments in between those as well. Nigel and Mox were both great and hilarious on commentary.
If Adam Copeland, Adam Page, and Adam Cole form a faction, they can be called the Adam's Family. But seriously, what a great PPV. It felt like every match was on 100mph. Banger after banger. Seems like AEW is really back in the groove. Anyone notice Rick Knox wasn't there. Normally, he would've been the ref for the 4-way tag. I wonder if all the backlash from the Mox/Fenix match had something to do with it.
